We remember when Zap revived the name Detroit Electric, a classic, last year but the details haven't been coming very fast and furious since then. Zap announced late last week that the U.S.-Chinese partnership (with China Youngman Automobile Group) is now headed over the Atlantic to find both money and tech help. In a statement, Detroit Electric CEO Albert Lam said that partners in Europe (unnamed) would help with the electric drive system, capital financing and vehicle distribution. More detail
ZAP has proven to be an excellent company when it comes to issuing press releases. They have also offered some nice products in the past, like the Zappy line of scooters. For some, the Xebra (see gallery below) fits their needs quite nicely, and for those people, ZAP is a fine company. For the rest of us, the chances that the ZAP X SUV, ZAP Alias or Detroit Electric brand ever get off the ground seems awfully slim.
