Detailing was once the last thing we had any interest in doing, and if such a thing were possible we had even less interest in watching someone else detail some other car. We don't feel that way anymore, fascinated by the minutiae uncovered in while watching Todd Cooperider and Polished Bliss detail some examples of Prancing Horses.

Next up on the detailing honor roll is Larry Kosilla of Ammo NYC. Company founder Kosilla said he has wanted to be the best detailer on Earth ever since he was a kid, and his company makes products to serve detailers with that kind of passion. Now, we can watch him put his knowledge and elbow grease to work on a Ferrari 288 GTO.

The biggest issue with the eighties wondercoupe is that it is made of three different materials, each of which will cause the same coat of paint to react differently to the same products according to Kosilla. There's also the fact that he's working in what appears to be a rather poorly lit garage, but by the time he gets to the end of the two-day job it's clear he knows exactly what he's doing. Detailing school begins in the video just below.
Continue reading Watch this Ferrari 288 GTO get a top-flight detailing job

Watch this Ferrari 288 GTO get a top-flight detailing job originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 02 Jan 2013 12:45:00 EST.
We have a thing for high-end detailing jobs. We're not talking about what the guy at your local drive-through car wash does for an extra $10. We're talking about the kind of detailing done by highly trained professionals that costs thousands of dollars and could take hundreds of hours to complete.

We normally get our fix of before-and-after photos from friend-of-the-site Todd Cooperider, whose work we've featured on Autoblog before. This time, however, we bring you some work done on a well worn Ferrari Enzo by a company in the UK called Polished Bliss.

Instead of before-and-after images, Polished Bliss produced an excellent six-minute video with production quality that matches the 144-hour(!) detailing job it chronicles. If you've ever wanted to watch these masters practice their craft, then scroll down to start the show.
Continue reading High-end video of high-end detail job on high-end Ferrari

High-end video of high-end detail job on high-end Ferrari originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 23 Apr 2012 19:29:00 EST.
There are some incredibly gifted people out there who obsess over automotive detailing. No paint swirl is too small and no interior crevice is too tight for this dedicated set. Others, however, call themselves detailers, but deliver sub-standard work when compared with the real pros. The staff at North West Auto Salon came across a particularly egregious example of shoddy detailing when a new customer pulled into their cleaning booth.

Choosing a cheaper competitor first, the customer sought to have a large coffee stain removed from his car's floor. Some quality cleaning products, detailing knowledge and elbow grease should be in order, right? Not so for this "lucky" customer. It seems a can of spray paint was the preferred cleaning tool here. We'll assume that the resulting overspray and still-visible coffee stain won't result in a good review on the detailer's Yelp page.

Head over to North West Auto Salon's website to see a few more images of this not-so-detailed detail work.
For the first month, you wash the car every other day to show off its hot body. A couple months go by and you're still washing it every weekend. After six months, you find the time for a wipe down once a month. After a year, though, you're happy when it rains and washes the salt off.

For this English gentleman and his new Vauxhall Astra VXR, however, the honeymoon will likely last longer than most. We have never seen a new car owner go to such incredible lengths to make sure his new ride is showing its best side. To say that he "detailed" the car would be a gross understatement. Most detail jobs don't involve washing the car with 100 litres of zero ppm RO water, inspecting the finish with a blue light gun for blemishes and applying a $7,118 wax job. We have to say though, after reading his thorough play-by-play of the process and viewing the before and after pics, it made a bigger difference to the car's appearance than we expected.

[Source: Corsasport.co.uk via GM Inside News]
New owner welcomes Vauxhall VXR Astra with most comprehensive car wash ever originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 23 Mar 2007 18:04:00 EST.
