<br />
How'd you like to go see Metallica at this summer's Orion music fest? Sounds good to us, but this makes it even better; the cost: Free.<br />
<br />
Yes, that's right, if you're into the hot rod and custom scene and you want to display your car or bike there, the band will comp you two passes to the weekend's festivities. It turns out that besides being the lead singer of Metallica, James Hetfield (that's him in the picture above) is a big car guy. One who wants to share his automotive passion with his legions of fans, hence the Custom Car and Motorcycle Show planned as part of the two-day Orion festival, scheduled for June 23-24 in Atlantic City, NJ.<br />
<br />
To stock the 300-plus field of cars and bikes Metallica has planned, they're looking for entries and dangling the aforementioned free tickets as bait. Entry is restricted to 1972 and earlier American models and the deadline is May 15. (Full details are available at the Orion <a href="http://www.orionmusicandmore.com/carshow/">website</a>.) It won't be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/pebble+beach/">Pebble Beach</a>, but hey, we're pretty sure there's more fun to be had headbanging to "Metallica" (a.k.a. The Black Album) and "Ride The Lightning," which the band will be performing in their entirety on consecutive nights, than standing around on a golf course in a blue blazer anyway. If Metallica isn't your bag, the Orion festival will also feature performances from acts like the Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, Modest Mouse and comedian Jim Breuer.<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2011 Ford Fiesta by Ford Custom Accessories - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
While introducing the folks at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a> to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/02/2011-ford-fiesta-at-2009-la-auto-show/">American-market 2011 Ford Fiesta</a>, Ford decided to go a step further. They didn't just show the production sedan and hatchback, they also showed off the possibilities the platform presents as well. They had four customized Fiestas on display, done up by companies like H&amp;R, 3dCarbon, FSWerks, and Steeda, as well as Ford's in-house Racing and Custom Accessories team. And just for good measure, they also brought along that wicked Kenny Brack X-Games Rally Fiesta as well.<br />
<br />
There's a full press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/02/la-2009-ford-shows-off-some-fiesta-possibilities/">after the jump</a>, but here is a brief summary of the four featured vehicles:<br />
<br />
<strong>Black Fiesta:</strong><br />
<br />
This car was put together by Ford Racing and Steeda Autosports. It features Steeda's cold air intake, a Borla/Ford Racing Performance cat-back exhaust system, Steeda/Ford Racing suspension upgrades, Ford Racing multi-spoke Euro wheels and Brembo anchors.<br />
<br />
<strong>Blue Fiesta:</strong><br />
<br />
The blue car was built by H&amp;R Special Springs. Naturally, it received some suspension tuning with an H&amp;R Street Performance monotube coil-over kit and a set of spiffy 18-inch OZ SuperTurismo GT wheels. It's also the beneficiary of some Euro reverse-engineering via "Sticky Jewell custom graphics, custom Euro hood vents, stealthy blacked-out headlamps and a Ford Custom Accessories upper rear hatch spoiler."<br />
<br />
<strong>White Fiesta:</strong><br />
<br />
<strong> </strong>The white Fiesta (above) features Ford Custom Accessories, so it ought to be the easiest model the Average Joe to copy. Nearly every styling element can be purchased from the Ford Custom Accessories, Ford Licensed Accessories or Ford Racing Performance Parts catalogs. And get used to those graphics, because Ford has taken this opportunity to add a whole new line of them for the Fiesta. You can see the whole collection at <a href="http://www.fordfiestagraphics.com/">fordfiestagraphics.com</a>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Red Fiesta:</strong><br />
<br />
Last, but certainly not least, is the red Fiesta by 3dCarbon and FSWerks. It's the only one of the four that has some serious rejiggering underhood. It features an FSWerks Stage 2 intercooled turbo kit and 2.25-inch exhaust system. It also sports a 3dCarbon body kit with an "aggressive front air dam, aerodynamic side skirts and rear lower accent trim."<br />
<br />
We'd probably mix and match among these mods, perhaps the H&amp;R suspension, the Brembos from the Steeda car, the OZ wheels and that FSWerks turbo setup. Or maybe we'd just take Brack's car. Check out the gallery by clicking below and more details in the press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/02/la-2009-ford-shows-off-some-fiesta-possibilities/">after the jump</a>.<br />

<br /> Every year at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/sema/">SEMA</a>, we fill the week with posts featuring special vehicles and products that we felt were important enough to share. Generally, they are the most newsworthy projects and new model introductions, but sometimes they are just things that caught our eye. When all is said and done, we think we've given all of you a good taste of what's on offer here in the desert.<br /> <br /> Of course, there are always things we see and shoot that don't make it into the regular posts from the days we are here. We end up with a few hundred photos of random weirdness and cool stuff that just didn't make it into a dedicated post. That's what this post is for. It's basically a chance to dump some of that random wackiness and wonder that is SEMA into one big bowl and invite you all to take a sip. Click on the gallery below and you'll see race cars, hot rods, muscle cars, motorcycles, wheels and more. None are labeled, but all should provide a unique look at what we saw at SEMA 2009.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-random-sightings">SEMA 2009: Random sightings</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-random-sightings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/09randomsema---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-random-sightings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/09randomsema---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-random-sightings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/09randomsema---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-random-sightings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/09randomsema---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-random-sightings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/09randomsema---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 <a href="http://about.frank4cars.fotki.com/">Frank Filipponio</a>/Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/06/sema-2009-what-we-didnt-get-to-cover/">SEMA 2009: What we didn't get to cover</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 06 Nov 2009 19:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>1967 Voxmobile by George Barris - Click above for image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
<img hspace="4" vspace="4" align="right" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/voxmobile---06_opt.jpg" class="right border" alt="" />Feelin' Groovy? Do you like guitars, speed and attention? If so, check out eBay Motors item number 260492703795. It's the one-and-only George Barris-created <a href="http://www.barris.com/gallery_cars/Novelty_ProductCars/gallery_voxmobile.html">Voxmobile</a>! Powered by a Cobra 289, it's said to be the fastest promotional vehicle ever created with an estimated top speed of 175 mph. Not that we'd recommend it. Molded from wood, plastic, steel and fiberglass, the fully-functional, guitar-sided Voxmobile was designed for publicity and incorporated a bunch of Vox musical components.<br />
<br />
Think of it as a super-quick parade float, or better yet, a '60s calliope, with 32 guitar inputs, a Vox Super Continental organ, three Vox Beatle amplifiers, and a dozen or so additional speakers. Most of it still works, but the seller says this original, unrestored, 40-year-old custom vehicle needs a bit of work to make it all hum.<br />
<br />
The Voxmobile was once owned by the world's fastest guitarist, Jimmy Bryant, and was almost a Hollywood star, dropped from the final cut of the Jack Nicholsen flick, <em>Psych-Out</em>. It still made the promotional lobby cards though. And it can be yours for the low-low price of just $175,000. The seller will even help you source a correct bass and head unit to complete the package. This thing is a hoot, but the promotional video for it is stellar. You won't believe the level of talent that came out to reminisce about this Barris creation. Check out the groovy YouTube video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/20/ebay-find-of-the-day-george-barris-rockin-289-cobra-powered-1/#continued">after the jump</a> and the full gallery of pics by clicking below.<br />

<div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a gallery of the Marquis DeSoto</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />It is neither a Mercury Grand Marquis nor a DeSoto, but perhaps it could be considered a kind of royalty. Furniture maker Steve Heller wanted to build a car of his own design, and possessed of a love of Fifties car details, he swiped the things he liked and built what he calls the "Marquis de Soto." It can also be called the <em>New York Times </em>Collectible Car of the Year.<br /><br />The Marquis is based on a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. The Marquis' wings have been poached from the rear of a 1957 DeSoto, along with 1959 Cadillac taillights, the front fenders and lights from a 1958 Lincoln, 1955 Cadillac bumpers, a 1965 Buick Skylark hood, chrome from a 1957 Buick, and a grille glommed built from two 1957 Corvette pieces.<br /><br />Heller spent 20 years collecting all the parts - he <a href="http://www.fabulousfurnitureon28.com/index.html">makes furniture</a> using vintage car doodads - and spent four months building the car in back of his furniture shop. We dig it... but we dig it even more when it was just wearing primer. It has The Riddler written all over it. For more on the Marquis DeSoto, you can <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/02/22/automobiles/collectibles/20090222-desoto/index.html">watch a great Heller-narrated slideshow</a> or check out the gallery of photos below. <em>Hat tip to Avinash</em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marquis-desoto">Marquis deSoto</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marquis-desoto/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/01_marquis_desoto_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marquis-desoto/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/02_marquis_desoto_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marquis-desoto/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/03_marquis_desoto_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marquis-desoto/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/04_marquis_desoto_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marquis-desoto/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/05_marquis_desoto_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/22/automobiles/collectibles/22MARQUIS.html?scp=1&amp;sq=marquis%20desoto&amp;st=cse">New York Times</a>]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/24/marquis-desoto-wins-ny-times-collectible-car-of-the-year-awar/">"Marquis DeSoto" wins NY Times' Collectible Car of the Year award</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 24 Feb 2009 08:58:00 EST. We know some amateur bands that have amps that sound much worse than the car's speakers. Then again, it could be their guitar-playing abilities. We can't wait until someone puts together a concert with about 20 Beetles on stage as amplifiers. Could you bill it as The Beetles United?<br /><br />Enjoy all 22 high-res 1280x photos in our <a href="http://http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iv-1/">gallery</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iv-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0551_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iv-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0533_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iv-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0543_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iv-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0532_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iv-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0466_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/12/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iv/">CES 2007: The Cars of CES Part IV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 12 Jan 2007 11:09:00 EST. Oh and a few pics of West Coast Customs' primer black two-door CLS. Sweet. The highlight, however, has got to be the convertible version of Jeff Gordon's NASCAR ride. <a href="http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_France">Bill France</a>, if you're reading this, we really want to see these things on the track. Either in its own class or right there alongside the coupe versions. Just imagine the excitement (not to mention dealer sales) these cars could bring to the NASCAR brand. Get back to us, we've got some ideas about helmet-optional motorcycle racing too.<br /><br />Enjoy this <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iii-1/">gallery</a> of 30 high-res 1280x photos from CES.<br /><br />Btw, we do apologize for the lack of full-on shots from CES. The place is so crowded, it's very difficult to get decent shots without someone walking into the frame. We tried mace, a large stick, even some guy named Guido we found on the Strip to try to keep people out of our shots, but, as you might imagine, CES officials were unhappy. Next year, we're thinking positive reinforcement. Maybe distract the crowds with cookies. Or swag bags full of USB drives.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iii-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0680_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iii-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0688_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iii-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0678_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iii-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0669_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iii-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/img_0661_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/11/ces-2007-the-cars-of-ces-part-iii/">CES 2007: The Cars of CES Part III</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 11 Jan 2007 11:32:00 EST.
