Toby Dammit, a character in the Fellini film Histoires Extraordinaires, roared about Rome in a gold Ferrari back in 1968. Marketed in the United States under the name 'Spirits of the Dead,' one of the most memorable things about the movie was that gilded Ferrari. While vintage horror films are pure camp now, classic Ferraris tend to age far more gracefully.

Taking a cue from avowed Ferrari fan James Glickenhaus, it's rumored that Wal-Mart's CEO Rob Walton has commissioned his own bespoke-bodied Ferrari. Aping the classic shape of the 330 LMB that participated in gruesome filmic follies, the old-school-styled Ferrari is reportedly based on a 599 and styled by Pininfarina. It isn't clear if the images above are of a styling mockup or the final vehicle (those headlamps don't exactly look functional and we can't see the interior - let alone the mechanicals), but in any case, one can't help but wonder if Walton secured the same type of price concessions for the coachbuilt automobile as the retailer is known for beating its suppliers up for.

Gallery: Golden Ferrari

[Source: Autoblog.nl (via WorldCarFans)]

Pininfarina 'Golden Ferrari' one-off revealed? originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 27 May 2009 15:29:00 EST.
While America's top tuners make the scene in Las Vegas for this year's SEMA show, aftermarket firms across the pond are still moving ahead at full steam. Case in point, Novitec Rosso's latest take on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. The V12 supercar is already one of the fastest and most capable on the market, but the Dutch tuning wizards at Novitec saw fit to strap on a supercharger. Or two. The result? An astonishing 808 horsepower and a stated 823 Nm of torque (equivalent to 607 lb-ft by American standards).

For that much power, Novitec is quoting a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) run of 3.5 seconds with a top speed in excess of 340 km/h (211 mph). But if you're wondering why an extra 188 horsepower has had such a marginal effect on the "stock" Fiorano's acceleration, consider that Ferrari spent a lot of time perfecting the existing car's performance with the considerable output it already has. But if raw power and top end are what you seek, Novitec's engine enhancements will run you nearly 47,000 euros.

Of course, Novitec is also offering a brake upgrade kit to keep the added power in check, along with three-piece 21-inch rims and an optimized aero kit along with various interior trim options. For the full skinny, consult the press release after the jump, and check out the images in the gallery below.

Trouble is, not everyone has a shelf full of sketchbooks with multitudinous supercar designs lying in wait. Even if you do, they're probably not very good. Mastering foreshortening and perspective is not a weekend project, and designing a body that's actually capable of production is also not something the common man, even the uncommonly rich common man, is familiar with. Yanko Design has done some of the heavy lifting for those talentless hacks wanting to join the Jim Glickenhaus society. The Glick went to Pininfarina, but Yanko's collected some former Ferrari design competition candidates to remind us of what could be. The designs are from students, and Yanko's showing some of the ones that didn't make the cut. If these are what students can do, just think of what experienced hands could come up with. Some actually look good, though others would be better off as Hot Wheels cars. Wouldn't it just be cheaper to get one of those Fiero bodykits and put the leftover millions into retirement accounts?

Gallery: Yanko Design Ferrari concepts

[Source: Autofiends]

Yanko Designs renders one-off Ferraris originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 13 Jul 2008 12:02:00 EST.
Hard as it may be to believe, the existing stock of Ferrari road cars just isn't enough for some. For those discerning (and exceedingly wealthy) customers, a unique Prancing Horse of their own is the only thing that will satisfy their need for automotive individuality. Far be it for us to complain, because their investment leads to eye candy, like Jim Glickenhaus' Enzo-based P4/5. Until now, such customers have had to turn to custom coachbuilders like Pininfarina and Carrozzeria Touring for such exclusivity, but reports now suggest that Ferrari will offer such extensive customization directly from the factory.

Show up at Maranello with 2 million euros in hand and an idea in mind, and Ferrari will cook you up your very own sportscar based on one of its existing chassis and powertrains. The only limit which Ferrari will reportedly impose is no SUVs, sedans or wagons (unless your first name is Sultan, of course), but we have a feeling they won't just slap their vaunted Prancing Horse emblem on any tail-finned, taupe-colored abomination you can cook up. We are, however, looking forward to finding out.

Say what you will about Edo and the things it does to supercars, but you've got to hand it to them: it takes a lot of nether-regional fortitude to try and improve on the most finely honed and intricately developed performance machines. The latest results of Edo's endeavors is the 630 Scuderia.

Although you wouldn't recognize it from the name, the 630 Scuderia is based on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. Using Edo's existing 630 GTB - whose engine more closely resembles the high-strung unit from the FXX than the "stock" 599's Enzo-derived powerplant - and upgrades it with a new aerodynamic kit designed to optimize the cooling and airflow around the vehicle. There's a sharply-styled front end with bigger vents that help cool the brakes, with an integrated lip spoiler increasing downforce. Underneath and around back, a new aerodynamic undertray and widened six-blade diffuser help optimize stability, aided by the new side skirts. All the components are made from carbon fiber, cutting curb weight down by 110 lbs.

Check out the images in the gallery below - and the press release after the jump - to make up your own mind: stylish and functional enhancement or sacrilegious defilement?
