<br />
If you're nostalgic, the first car that may come to mind when you think about a droptop Cadillac is the old tail-finned Fifties Eldorado. A pink one especially. But since then, the American luxury marque hasn't had a whole lot of convertibles. There was the Pininfarina-styled Allante and the recently discontinued XLR, both roadsters, but if you think the General's luxury division is eager to get back into the open-air business, think again, as new reports indicate that there are no such plans on the horizon.<br />
<br />
At least not based on the CTS, anyway. The series has spawned a sedan - including the all-conquering <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v-supercar-performance-everyday-driv/">CTS-V</a> - a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/03/review-2010-cadillac-cts-sportwagon-eats-up-cargo-the-open-roa/">wagon</a> and even a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/01/la-2009-cadillac-cts-coupe-vogues-dazzles/">coupe</a>, but the guys over at Inside Line say they've got the inside line that no convertible version of one of Cadillac's most prolific models is in the works. Which is a bit of a shame, when you think about it. But you never know what's coming around the corner...<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/cadillac/">Cadillac</a> invited us down to a dance hall south of downtown Los Angeles and the convention center for a little lunch and a lot of talk concerning their new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/cts+coupe">CTS Coupe</a>. In fact, they brought a CTS Coupe along with 'em. A <em>production</em> CTS Coupe we should point out. The exact same car you'll be able to purchase from Cadillac in just a few short months (most likely May 2010 as a 2011 model). <br />
<br />
First thing is first and <em>WOW</em> - what a fabulously stunning automobile. Those of you in the LA area owe it to yourself to schlep down to the Staples Center just to see this here Caddy Coupe live in the flesh. Yes, it is another in a long lined-trend of modern vehicle that looks ten times better in person than in photos. For reals, this Caddy Coupe is a knockout. <br />
The pieces are now in place for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/19/cadillac-cts-v-challenge-nets-120-applicants-heinricy-to-stand">V-Series Challenge</a> set to take place at the <a href="http://www.monticellomotorclub.com/">Monticello Motor Club</a> on October 29. Behind the wheel of a Cadillac CTS-V, Bob Lutz will take on the competition in a run-what-you-brung type shoot out against players chosen by GM from the automotive media and general population. The video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/23/video-bob-lutz-prepares-for-v-series-challenge-at-monticello/#continued">after the jump</a> shows Lutz already on site practicing his lines on Monticello's 22-turn track (we're not sure yet what track configuration will be used). Maximum Bob will clearly have an advantage in terms of knowing the track, though General Motors is also bringing along ace pilot and former GMer John Heinricy in case the competition comes with some pro-am or above drivers.<br />
<br />
Sounds like a good time, though we've heard through the grapevine that despite receiving around 120 applicants, the five vehicles chosen by GM to take on the CTS-V don't stand much of a chance. One we do know that will be present is a Jaguar XFR piloted by Wes Siler from <em>Jalopnik</em>. <br />
<br />
We also asked Porsche about this whole business, since it would seem that the Panamera Turbo has one of the best shots at beating a CTS-V. Unless an actual owner was chosen by GM to be a challenger, however, there won't be a Panamera Turbo present. Porsche told us that they weren't approving any loans of the Panamera Turbo to the media for this event, and we've heard rumblings of the same sort from Mercedes-Benz concerning its AMG-fortified hardware. <br />
<br />
We can't blame them. This is a GM event and the deck is stacked in their favor. Letting an auto journalist represent your brand in this super sedan pissing contest seems like a lose-lose proposition for any automaker in its right mind. Jaguar apparently disagrees, but we'll see what happens come October 29.<br />
<br />
UPDATE: GM got in touch with us to clarify that the video footage was shot at the company's Milford Proving Grounds, and that Lutz has never raced at Monticello before.<br />

<br /> May the best car win. <a href="http://cadillac.gmblogs.com/2009/10/13/may-the-best-car-win-in-action/">So says General Motors' Bob Lutz</a>, and he's willing to put his Pilotis where his mouth is... so to speak. On a conference call last month, Maximum Bob challenged any journalist to a duel with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v-supercar-performance-everyday-driv/">Cadillac CTS-V</a>, and, not surprisingly, the mantle was picked up right quick by the boys at Jalopnik.<br /> <br /> Rules? Sorta. Any stock production four-door sedan is reportedly eligible to go up against the Big V, and the drivers will be lining up against the clock on October 29 at the Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, N.Y. While Jalop's Wes Siler was originally slated to go up against Lutz in a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, that car has since been switched out in favor of the Jaguar XFR (earning <a href="http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/ttacs-jack-baruth-to-take-on-gms-bob-lutz-in-luxury-sedan-shootout/">the ire of TTAC</a> in the process).<br /> <br /> Here's the best part: Anyone who happens to own a new comparable sport sedan, such as a BMW M3 or M5, perhaps a Mercedes-Benz AMG sedan or the Audi S4 (not to mention the Mitsubishi Evolution), is welcome to submit themselves for consideration to take part in the festivities in New York. We're not sure how the participants will be selected or exactly what the racing will entail, but if you're interested in throwing your hat into the ring, <a href="http://www.ctsvchallenge.com/">click here</a>. For what it's worth, we've driven the CTS-V around Monticello, and we figure the smart money is on the Daddy Caddy.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/">Review: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review008_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.ctsvchallenge.com/">CTS-V Challenge</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/14/cts-v-challenge-opened-up-to-any-would-be-caddy-killers/">CTS-V Challenge opened up to any would-be Caddy killers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 14 Oct 2009 08:57:00 EST. <br /> In Europe, the humble station wagon holds a big-time slice of the family driver demographic, partly because ridiculous petrol prices make big SUVs and crossovers far too uneconomical. Americans, on the other hand, have a fundamental problem with the station wagon. We're not sure if the wagon is uncool because it was our parents' preferred family vehicle or if the aesthetics of it are just too boxy for our fashion forward culture. The only subset of the American public who has consistently called for more wagons are automotive enthusiasts, though even we seldom seem to vote for the Griswald Family Truckster with our pocketbooks.<br /> <br /> Cadillac is all too aware of America's disdain for the wagon, as evidenced by the fact that General Motors' luxury brand has never built a squat two box for the U.S. market. That changes for 2010 as the Wreath and Crest begins production of its 2010 Cadillac CTS Sportwagon. This Caddy begins life with hot-to-trot sheetmetal and the underpinnings of the excellent CTS sedan, but does it have the chutzpah to change our less than flattering opinions about the station wagon? We gave the CTS Sportwagon some time in the Autoblog Garage to see if the first-ever U.S.-market Caddy wagon has the goods to make Americans stop their loathing and get to loading. <br />Despite recent products to the contrary, when much of America thinks "Cadillac," a lot of people still recall the land yachts of the '70s and '80s. Hoods and decks marginally shorter than your average aircraft carrier, and Sedan de Villes and Fleetwoods serving as hearses or transportation for those awaiting a ride in one. But something happened to Cadillac a few years back. After several failed attempts to compete with the Germans (Seville STS, Allante and Catera), General Motors began crafting a strategy to take on the luxury marques abroad. At the forefront of that movement is the Cadillac CTS and the pinnacle of their efforts is this, the CTS-V. To paraphrase and co-opt the grizzled Oldsmobile tag-line: "The 2009 CTS-V is not your grandfather's Cadillac." Not by a long shot.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/">Review: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review008_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ctsv-review003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Sam Abuelsamid / Max Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v-supercar-performance-everyday-driv/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Review: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V offers supercar performance, everyday drivability</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v-supercar-performance-everyday-driv/">Review: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V offers supercar performance, everyday drivability</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 03 Jun 2009 11:57:00 EST. <br />Although things are understandably more than bit somber in General Motors' U.S. operations as of late, over in China, the mood is a bit more upbeat. The evidence? Check out this CTS stunt-driving exhibition held last weekend on Shanghai's Formula One circuit.<br /><br />According to GM's Cadillac Notes blog, some 19,000 fans gathered to watch the show and celebrate the arrival of the CTS-V in China last weekend - this, despite the heat (with temperatures at around 86&deg;, it was reportedly the hottest May 9 in over a century).<br /><br />In any case, the professional Hollywood stunt team delighted the masses, as did GM test engineer supremo John Heinricy, who (aside from apparently <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/05/gm-performance-guru-john-heinricy-retires/">not being all-the-way retired)</a>, marked the occasion by setting a record in the CTS-V for the quickest-ever lap (2:32.80) of the course in a production sedan. Heck, even Spider-Man showed up! Check out the high-res hijinks in our below. <em>Thanks for the tip, Scot!</em><br /><br style="font-style: italic;" /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">UPDATE:</span><span style="font-style: italic;"> YouTube video of V-Day added<a height="344" width="425" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/W-_sQPPqwO0&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/W-_sQPPqwO0&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" name="movie" href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/15/shanghai-surprise-cadillac-cts-stunt-team-dazzles-in-china-hei/"> after the jump</a>.</span><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-v-day-in-shanghai/low/">Cadillac V-Day in Shanghai</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-v-day-in-shanghai/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/3529019258_1c9f5d3e1b_b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-v-day-in-shanghai/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/3529019594_1480d56d0f_b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-v-day-in-shanghai/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/3529019136_d0e430d76a_b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-v-day-in-shanghai/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/3528208187_c999e3e51d_b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-v-day-in-shanghai/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/3529019212_bbcc759384_o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Sources: <a href="http://cadillac.gmblogs.com/2009/05/13/shanghais-v-day-%E2%80%94-wow/">Cadillac Notes</a>; <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-_sQPPqwO0">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/15/shanghai-surprise-cadillac-cts-stunt-team-dazzles-in-china-hei/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shanghai Surprise: Cadillac CTS stunt team dazzles in China, Heinricy sets F1 track record [*UPDATED w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/15/shanghai-surprise-cadillac-cts-stunt-team-dazzles-in-china-hei/">Shanghai Surprise: Cadillac CTS stunt team dazzles in China, Heinricy sets F1 track record [*UPDATED w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 15 May 2009 12:28:00 EST. <br />Cadillac has a legitimate contender on its hands with the CTS. The luxury sedan is selling pretty well considering the down market, and it will soon be joined by wagon and coupe variants in the not too distant future. Beyond the CTS, though, Cadillac's car offerings have been less successful.<br /><br />According to The Detroit Bureau, Cadillac is hoping to improve its standing by bookending the CTS with a smaller BMW 3-Series fighter and an all-new flagship.<em> </em>The website quotes Cadillac Marketing Chief Steve Shannon as saying that a sub-CTS is 24-30 months away. Cadillac designers are evidently working on sedan, hatchback, wagon, and convertible variants, although it is unclear what markets would receive what variants. Shannon believes the small Caddy could be the global sales leader for Cadillac, and diesel powerplants may be available at home and abroad. The question remains whether the sub-CTS would come in the form of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/01/alpha-rwd-platform-set-to-invade-gm-lineup/">RWD Alpha</a> platform GM is rumored to be working on, or a FWD platform in the mold of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/11/detroit-2009-cadillac-converj-with-video/">Converj concept</a> from the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.<br /><br />For a while now, rumors have swirled that Cadillac would fold its slow-selling STS and long-serving DTS models into one new successor. The top-line Cadillac has always been too close in size to the CTS (which is itself larger than most of its cross-shops), and sales never really took off for either - at least outside of the livery market. GM is reportedly looking to change that with a new model that will better differentiate itself from the CTS in terms of size, price, amenities, and style. We've been hearing about a new replacement for some time, with most talk surrounding whether or not the project is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/12/report-cadillac-places-dts-sts-replacement-on-hold/">on hold</a>. Though the replacement sedan would be larger than the STS, Shannon insists that fuel economy would be a top priority considering the ever-tightening standards worldwide.<br /><br />The real question for Cadillac is whether or not GM will be able to afford the new models. If the General goes into bankruptcy, nobody really knows what stands to get cut. Shannon optimistically says that GM's brand bloodletting could work in Cadillac's favor, though. With fewer brands to feed, GM's luxury division could finally get the attention it so richly deserves.<br /><br />[Source:<a href="http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2009/04/caddy-betting-big-on-planned-%E2%80%9Csub-cts%E2%80%9D/"> The Detroit Bureau</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/10/report-cadillac-pinning-its-hopes-on-sub-cts-model-and-new-fl/">REPORT: Cadillac pinning its hopes on 'sub-CTS' model and new flagship sedan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 10 Apr 2009 10:27:00 EST. While this version in white is said to be a vanilla V6 sample, the CTS Coupe should be hot enough to effectively <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/gm-executes-cadillac-xlr/">replace the outgoing XLR</a> as the Caddy with the mostest when it's given some wheels large enough to match the body's presence. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Monterey debut - Click above for a high-res gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />After speaking this morning with Cadillac's product communications manager, David Caldwell, we've fleshed out some near-term product plans for General Motors' luxury brand - in particular the timetable for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/15/embargo-8-15-pebble-beach-2008-cadillac-unveils-2010-cts-v-spo/">2010 CTS Sport Wagon</a>. The automaker's Lansing Grand River plant is scheduled to begin building the stylish rear-drive load lugger in early May, and the first examples should be at dealerships around Memorial Day (May 25), or perhaps early June.<br /><br />Cadillac's first-ever U.S-market station wagon (no, the SRX crossover doesn't count) is expected to offer a reasonable 25 cubic feet of space beneath its rakish rear glass, and while it rides on the same 113.4-inch wheelbase as its sedan counterpart, the wagon will actually be .3-inches shorter. The model looks to be particularly important for GM's fortunes in Europe, where the luxury division is still struggling to gain traction against the entrenched domestics. While being something of a fringe interest in the U.S., sport wagons do solid business in Europe, and the overseas-only <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/12/frankfurt-2007-cadillac-bls-wagon-has-got-back/">BLS Wagon</a> has played largely to lukewarm reviews. Back home in the States, Cadillac expects just 20 percent of CTS customers to opt for the estate version, while the European model mix is slated to be more along the lines of a 60 percent/40 percent split in favor of the wagon.<br /><br />So... what about the CTS Coupe? As we <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/gm-postpones-cadillac-cts-coupe-until-summer-2010/">reported in January</a>, the stylish two-door's production plans remain firm for next year, despite company-wide cutbacks and rumors to the contrary. While that's still later than Cadillac had originally hoped, officials say the delay will give them the opportunity to focus on launching the Sport Wagon as well as the 2010 SRX replacement. No official word on the likelihood of a CTS-V Coupe or Sport Wagon, but <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/27/spy-shots-cadillac-cts-v-coupe-spotted-testing/">mules of the former have already been spotted</a>, so perhaps we'll get lucky.<br /><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/">2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x10ca_ct012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x10ca_ct013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x10ca_ct014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/x10ca_ct001-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/x10ca_ct002-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/20/cadillac-cts-sport-wagon-production-to-begin-early-may-cts-coup/">Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon production to begin early May, CTS Coupe still on track</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 19:30:00 EST. Naturally, there's a monthly charge associated with the service, but $29 a month for a stylish, leather-lined mobile command center doesn't strike us as too bad of a deal, especially when the WiFi is capable of handling multiple devices simultaneously. No word yet on whether existing CTS owners can retrofit their cars, but considering this is a dealer-installed add-on, we imagine it's possible. If not, there's always the aftermarket.<br /><br />Now, if we could only get Cadillac to consider fitting a Nespresso machine, we'd have all the tools of the trade!<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/19/fast-connection-cadillac-adds-wifi-to-cts-options-list/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fast Connection: Cadillac adds WiFi to CTS options list</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/19/fast-connection-cadillac-adds-wifi-to-cts-options-list/">Fast Connection: Cadillac adds WiFi to CTS options list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 19 Mar 2009 10:27:00 EST. <br />The launch of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/CadillacCTSCoupe/">Cadillac CTS Coupe</a>, which was supposed to be shown at last year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/la+2008/">LA Auto Show</a>, has been pushed back to the summer of 2010. Cadillac's director of communications cited "changes to the overall portfolio" as the reason, which is understandable, but doesn't make us any less happy about having to wait. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/CTSWagon/">CTS Wagon</a> is still on schedule for this spring, as is the SRX for this summer. When the CTS Coupe does arrive, it could either be a 2010 or 2011 model.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/">Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/x08cc_ca061_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/x08cc_ca058_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/x08cc_ca059_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/x08cc_ca060_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0000ctscoupe_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/">Detroit 2008: Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept - Live Reveal</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cts-coupe-concept-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cts-coupe-concept-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cts-coupe-concept-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cts-coupe-concept-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cts-coupe-concept-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090126/ANA03/901260344/-1">Automotive News</a> - Sub. The dual-overhead cam, four-valve diesel V8 puts out 310 hp and a tire decimating 520 lb.-ft. of torque and GM already has a transmission that can handle the grunt. The oilburner currently meets the tougher 2010 emissions standards which would allow it to be sold in all 50 states, and with a reported 20-25% increased fuel economy over the V8 model, the diesel CTS could provide some competition to similar offerings from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. According to <em>MT</em>, the amount of modifications would be minimal and the addition of the CTS diesel would help to boost GM's CAFE certification to meet the stricter 35 mpg requirements in 2020.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_news/2008/112_0810_duramax__v8_cadillac_cts/index.html">MotorTrend</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/15/cadillac-mulling-v8-diesel-for-cts/">Cadillac mulling V8 diesel for CTS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 08:02:00 EST. <p>Few icons are as synonymous with the American automobile as Cadillac and the station wagon, so it may come as a surprise that Cadillac has never officially offered a station wagon to American customers in its 106-year long history. Sure, there was the SRX crossover that came rather close, and the enormous Escalade SUV, as well. Cadillac even offers the BLS as a wagon, but that's only for overseas customers. Depending on which way you look at it, the new Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon may not be it either. Even with its edgy styling, the extended-roof CTS blurs the line between wagon and hatchback.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/15/embargo-8-15-pebble-beach-2008-cadillac-unveils-2010-cts-v-spo/">initial trio of CTS Sport Wagon shots</a> released last month may not have shown the new Caddy's best side, but Cadillac has now put out a whole slew of new images which, in our opinion at least, better portray the sharp lines we took in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/15/monterey-2008-2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon-revealed/">at Pebble Beach</a> and are sure to catch people's attention in mall parking lots and soccer fields of America after it goes on sale here next spring. Check out the new images in the gallery below, and our live shots from Monterey in the gallery below that to see for yourself.</p>

<p>It's been over 60 years since the Americans have so thoroughly trounced the Germans, but <em>Inside Line</em> has the numbers to prove it. The Edmunds news service had a chance to take the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/11/autoblog-exclusive-burning-rubber-in-the-2009-cadillac-cts-v-w/">Cadillac CTS-V</a> (which we're driving in upstart New York as we speak) and its supercharged V8 for a spin around GM's Milford proving grounds and brought along its testing gear. The resulting bombardment ought to have the Germans thoroughly embarrassed and rebuilding for decades to come.</p>
<p>The CTS-V ran the quarter-mile in a scant 12.5 seconds, besting the 12.7 it takes for either the BMW M5 or the Mercedes E63 AMG. Getting back to a standstill was another hit to the Bimmer and the Benz, with the Caddy stopping from 60-0 mph in 109 feet - five feet less than it takes the M5 and six shorter than the AMG. And if you're thinking that brakes and power are easy to upgrade and that the Cadillac couldn't possibly best the Germans on the handling course, think again: the CTS-V ran the slalom at 71.1 mph, while the M5 and E63 ran it in 68.5 and 65 mph respectively. <em>Deutschland &uuml;ber alles</em> indeed.</p>

Naturally, cameras weren't allowed inside the Caddy tent to keep images leaking out ahead of the coupe's official unveiling this November at the Los Angeles Auto Show.<br /><br />However, a lack of pictures hasn't stopped InsideLine from going into detail about what the CTS coupe will look like when it rolls onto the stand in LA. According to the report, the coupe is virtually unchanged from its conceptual predecessor, with everything ahead of the A-pillars pulled directly from its sedan counterpart. The massive C-pillars have remained, along with the vertical taillights and steeply raked rear window. Thankfully, Cadillac saw fit to include a back-up camera to make up for the lack of rearward visibility.<br /><br />Production will begin next summer at GM's Lansing Grand River plant, and while GM execs remain mum on engine choices, expect the same duo of V6s available on the sedan and sport wagon to carry over to the coupe, along with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/08/detroit-2008-2009-cadillac-cts-v-revealed-with-550-hp/">CTS-V's 550 hp, supercharged 6.2-liter V8</a> later down the line.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-spy-shots-ii/low/">Cadillac CTS Coupe - spy shots II</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-spy-shots-ii/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/ctscoupe.ch01.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-spy-shots-ii/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/ctscoupe.ch02.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-spy-shots-ii/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/ctscoupe.ch03.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-spy-shots-ii/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/ctscoupe.ch04.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-spy-shots-ii/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/ctscoupe.ch05.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/">Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/x08cc_ca061_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/x08cc_ca058_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/x08cc_ca059_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/x08cc_ca060_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-coupe-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0000ctscoupe_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=130886">InsideLine</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/18/2010-cadillac-cts-coupe-coming-to-la-auto-show/">2010 Cadillac CTS coupe coming to LA Auto Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 18 Aug 2008 14:28:00 EST. When (customers) want it (the option of smaller engines) - we'll do it." That's a (somewhat mangled) quote from Thomas G. Stephens, GM's executive veep for global powertrain and quality, speaking at the inauguration of the General's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/28/general-motors-dedicates-new-powertrain-engineering-center/">Powertrain Engineering Development Center</a> last Friday. What Stephens is referring to is the possibility of equipping Cadillacs with smaller, turbocharged engines - specifically fitting the 260-hp (or more) 2.0-liter, turbocharged four in the CTS sedan.<br /><br />Sounds like a Hell of an idea, but how - exactly - is GM going to determine when consumers are ready for it? How about now?<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoobserver.com/2008/07/gm-ready-for-smaller-engines-when-customers-are.html"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/gm-ecotec-turbo-engine-2377_250op.jpg" alt="" /></a>Prices at the pump may have peaked (for now), but consumers are still craving fuel-efficient rides that don't skimp on power and poise. GM is already making V8 levels of output with its direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 (see: Camaro) and that, coupled with Stephens' quote, means that GM isn't totally oblivious to the idea of offering smaller engines that balance fuel economy and thrust in packages that might benefit from them. But again, how will the market tell GM when it's open to the idea of fewer cylinders making just as much power? Ford is already ramping up to release its line of direct injected, turbocharged EcoBoost engines, BMW has proven that turbocharged sixes are the bee's knees and practically every other automaker is looking into forced induction as a means to a lighter, more powerful, more fuel efficient end. So why is GM stalling? If the General has the capabilities, it needs to step up and let the market embrace it. It will. If GM doesn't, it risks its own extinction.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoobserver.com/2008/07/gm-ready-for-smaller-engines-when-customers-are.html">AutoObserver</a>, Image (C)2008 John Neff]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/30/gm-turbocharged-four-for-the-cts-only-if-customers-want-it/">GM: Turbocharged four for the CTS? Cadillac contacted us with some corrections and clarifications, which we now deliver to you. First, the CTS-V is going to Europe. That fantasy matchup in the likes of <em>Auto Motor und Sport</em> that pits it against the likes of the M5, RS6 and the AMG E-Class is bound to happen after all. <em>Top Gear's</em> complaint centered around the UK-market's particular situation. You see, the CTS-V is not going to Blighty <em>in right-hand-drive</em> form. The V-Series car is only being produced with the steering wheel on the left side of the IP, though the company STILL can (and intends to) offer a limited number of CTS-V sedans in the UK in LHD configuration, according to Caddy spokesman David Caldwell. This could be duplicated in other RHD markets as well, save for Australia, where apparently, the regulations are such that left-hand-drive vehicles are simply not an option. We won't shed a tear for Australia, though. They have plenty of cool stuff that we won't see either. <br /><br />So, to sum up: the CTS-V will be exported. Europe will see it, and so might the UK, but with the steering wheel on the "wrong" side (as far as they're concerned). <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-preview-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/">First Ride: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-preview-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/cts-v-preview-1280-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-preview-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/cts-v-preview-1280-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-preview-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/cts-v-preview-1280-29_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-preview-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/cts-v-preview-1280-30_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-preview-2009-cadillac-cts-v/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/cts-v-preview-1280-31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Cadillac]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/14/lock-and-load-cts-v-to-go-hunting-in-europe-after-all/">Lock &amp; Load: CTS-V to go hunting in Europe after all</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 14 Jul 2008 14:04:00 EST. Power will be provided by a V6 and Cadillac's general manager, Jim Taylor, expects annual sales to land somewhere between 60,000 and 70,000 units.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-brx-spy-shots/low/">Cadillac BRX - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-brx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cad.brx.fc.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-brx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cad.brx.fc2.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-brx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cad.brx.p1.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-brx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cad.brx.p2.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-brx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cad.brx.rc.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-wagon-spy-shots/low/">Cadillac CTS Wagon - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-wagon-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/cd_ctswagon_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-wagon-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/cd_ctswagon_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-cts-wagon-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/cd_ctswagon_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20080623/ANA03/806230364/1197">Automotive News</a> - Sub.
