Details surrounding the crash are scarce, so all we have right now is one lone report from a friend on the ground saying that the #5 Ford Fiesta crashed during a practice session yesterday, and that Andrea Ericksson was unharmed in the incident. We're working to secure some photos of the crash, so stay tuned as the story develops.

UPDATE: Apparently a misfire on the #5 Fiesta caused Ericksson to lose it into a corner and he wound up on his side. The vehicle is being worked on now and it appears it didn't suffer any serious structural damage. Excerpts from Ford's release with an interview with Ericksson are posted below the fold.
Continue reading BREAKING: #5 Ford Racing Fiesta rolls at Pikes Peak

BREAKING: #5 Ford Racing Fiesta rolls at Pikes Peak originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 17 Jul 2009 17:26:00 EST. For the sellers of this distressed 1999 Acura Integra, however, it's a defining characteristic. The high points (now low, due to the vehicle's inverted status) are that the parts should be in fine shape on this 60,000 mile example. If you needed an engine, trans or interior from a low mileage donor, this might be your car. We do hope that it didn't stay upside down for long, though, for the engine's sake. If not, all the oil that's likely filled up the cylinders will make starting a challenge.

[Source: Dave's Daily]

Used Integra, CHEAP! originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Mar 2008 07:30:00 EST. Then you see the shot of the back. Significant restyling has taken place on this particular brandy-new STI, and we're not talking about the new duds Fuji whipped up. At least now we know what the primo donor cars will look like at the pick-a-part. While it's an upsetting thing for us internet pikers to gaze upon, we can only imagine the owner's anguish. That said, since most of the damage is in the rear, we're guessing that someone else is at fault for the total loss of this Subie. So, while this particular STI is likely headed for a dismemberment, the owner is likely tooling around in a replacement. So, what do you think the combined cost of this lovely hunk of low-miles (282km) scrap plus a shipping container would be?

Thanks for the tip, Marc!

[Source: caradvice.com.au]

First Subaru Impreza STI crash happens in Japan originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 18 Dec 2007 09:26:00 EST. As the purchase of exotics has increased, the number of customers cracking up their hyper-expensive rides has risen accordingly, and the Wall Street Journal decided to take a look into the facts, the figures and the conjecture surrounding the issue.

The article, accompanied by a two-and-a-half minute video segment, explores some of the more publicized cases of the past several years, along with interviews with some players in the automotive industry and the press.

One of the stats that caused us to re-read an entire paragraph came courtesy of the California Highway Patrol. "... The total number of accidents involving Aston Martins, Bentleys, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Lotuses and Maseratis rose to 141 last year, an 81% increase from 2002, while overall crashes declined statewide during that period."

That stat pretty much sums up the state of affairs, but the whole article is certainly worth a few minutes of your Saturday. Whether or not this recent phenomenon is worthy of some of the government's or automaker's time is another issue entirely.

[Source: Wall Street Journal]
WSJ examines why supercars are dropping like flies on public roads originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 16 Jun 2007 08:34:00 EST. Corvetteforum.com member Mr. Williams, owner of the 'Vette crashed by a dealership employee, and Greg James of San Rafael Chevrolet have come to terms, with the dealership promising to find a comparable replacement car. We're glad that things worked out, Corvettes are not your average car, and owners feel a very special bond with their rides. It will take a little while for the replacement car to arrive, but it sounds like a stand-up move by the dealership. They're going to take a financial hit, but we're betting that Mr. Williams will tell the story as a satisfied customer if all goes well. We do wonder what happened to the knucklehead who decided it'd be fun to try hairy maneuvers in someone else's car.

[Source: Corvetteforums.com]
Oh Happy Day: Dealer decides to replaced wrecked Vette originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 29 Dec 2006 12:25:00 EST. Word has just surfaced that yet another Ferrari Enzo has been trashed after a crash in Abu Dabia left it far from pristine. We have no details yet on what happened, who was driving or even who owns the car, but the yellow Enzo definitely came in direct contact with the stubby trunk of a palm tree-like plant. That's normally something you want to avoid while driving an Enzo. From the pictures that are viewable by clicking the Read link, it doesn't appear the Enzo was damaged too badly, so perhaps it's salvageable.

[Source: Tovx.com]
Another crashed Enzo... this time a yellow one! originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 21 Dec 2006 20:04:00 EST.
