Back in February, Mini invited me to come try out its brand-new Paceman coupe-crossover-hatchback thing in Puerto Rico, and not long after, I spit out a Quick Spin detailing my impressions of the little-big two-door. But here's what I didn't tell you: Mini also let me loose on those fine, curvaceous, tropical roads in its hottest hatch, the John Cooper Works GP. And while that behind-the-wheel gigglefest would have no doubt made for a story laden with positive notes and warm regards, the truth is, I only drove it for 15 minutes, so I couldn't in good conscience offer much of a story to you. (European Editor Matt Davis also got a short stint behind the wheel of the GP late last year.)

So for the sake of due diligence, I buckled down and spent a full eight days with the JCW GP back home in Detroit, just as springtime was starting to stick here in southeast Michigan. But after my time with the Mini, I was wishing that I could have just been left with my GP memories from Puerto Rico, where I was pushing the little hotbox hard around smooth corners and flexing every one of its muscles to eke out the full JCW GP experience in only a short timeframe.

This was indeed a bittersweet homecoming.
Continue reading 2013 Mini John Cooper Works GP

2013 Mini John Cooper Works GP originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 30 Apr 2013 11:57:00 EST.
A Reddit user has posted images of the 2015 F56 Mini Cooper, one each of the exterior and interior. As has been the case since the launch of the new Mini in 2001, the overall exterior shape underneath camouflage screams Mini, but insiders are still calling the coming F56 model "the most aggressively different new Mini yet." Inside, though, the two-door that defined premium hatchbacks has, according to its most devoted buyers, gone mainstream.

The giant ring atop the center console is there, but there's no longer a speedometer inside of it. Instead, in an integration that brings to mind words like "shoehorned," Mini designers have placed radio and telephone controls inside the bezel. According to the Mini experts at MotoringFile, the picture above is the base trim and one of four possible treatments - in the upper trims a larger screen for navigation takes up most of the space. The bezel itself is marked with mood lighting that supposedly "swirls around" when you start the car with the red toggle switch.

The speedo rests atop the steering column with a tachometer placed to its left. The BMW wheel pictured is just for the prototype - you can expect a familiar three-spoke Mini wheel when the car is revealed, and latest rumor is that the event will take place at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show.
Next-gen Mini interior ditching familiar center speedo originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 29 Mar 2013 18:28:00 EST.
During an event in Ponce, Puerto Rico last week where Mini introduced members of the media to the 2013 Paceman and John Cooper Works GP, product planners discussed that the brand's lineup could expand to eventually include up to 10 bodystyles. Currently, the Mini range consists of seven models: the Hardtop, Clubman, Convertible, Countryman, Coupe, Roadster and Paceman.

Speaking to members of the media, David Duncan, Mini USA sales manager, said that these new models could fall into a range of niches - "any segment that makes sense for a small car." No specific vehicle classes were discussed, but Duncan stated that the possibilities are endless, "as long as we're the smallest player in any segment."

Well, nearly endless. We've been hoping that Mini would re-think its decision to nix plans to create a vehicle smaller than the Hardtop - a notion previewed by the excellent Rocketman concept (shown above) from the 2011 Geneva Motor Show - but the automaker once again stated that this is absolutely off the table. In order to create a vehicle of the Rocketman's size, a completely new platform would have to be engineered (that's expensive), and while Mini has looked into acquiring existing architecture from another brand, parent company BMW has reportedly put the kibosh on such an act. If a Rocketman is ever to be born, BMW/Mini will do it on its own, and right now, that simply isn't in the cards.

Patrick McKenna, head of Mini USA's product strategy, also told us that while he's "not going to confirm it," diesel power is indeed being investigated for use in the next-generation Mini range in the States. Yes, we've heard this before, but every time it's said, it sounds more sincere.

So, where does Mini go from here? Your guess is as good as ours. The product team tells Autoblog that one of the main reasons for people to turn away from the range-topping Countryman is that it's too small, so you could realistically argue for a larger version of this vehicle, despite the fact that we've been told before that the Countryman would be the largest Mini is willing to go. You could certainly make the argument for something relatively low-cost like a convertible version of the Paceman, or even a clever little pickup based on the all-wheel-drive Countryman platform. Give us your best ideas, in Comments.
Mini lineup could expand to include up to 10 models, still no hope for Rocketman originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 12 Feb 2013 13:31:00 EST.
The Mini Cooper is now confirmed as a great car with which to pick up chicks-up to 28 of them at a time, to be specific. That's the number of limber ladies you can fit in a Mini, as proven earlier this week in London.

The flexible females used every available space in the car, including the footwells and dashboard, to set the Guinness World Record for the most people inside a 2012 Mini. They beat their own previous record of 27, set last year.

Organizer Dani Maynard said before the attempt that the girls had undergone extra training and stretching since last year's record-breaking stunt. "While we have not quite been able to fit any of the girls into the Mini's glove box, there is a surprising amount of space to utilise," she told UK news site Metro.

After successfully extricating themselves from the new Mini, the team sprinted over to a TV studio where 23 of them managed to squeeze into an original, much smaller classic Mini. That was enough to break the previous record of 21. You can watch a video of the event and read the official press release below.
Continue reading 28 "flexible ladies" cram into a Mini Cooper [w/video]

28 "flexible ladies" cram into a Mini Cooper [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 17 Nov 2012 20:01:00 EST.
About three weeks prior to this brief yet balls-to-the-wall drive on the Spanish island of Mallorca, I saw that Mini USA announced pricing for the keenly anticipated Mini John Copper Works GP. And that number would be - *a-hem* - $39,950 for starters.

I am always intent upon finding the pinnacle of what a certain car promises me, and almost at any cost. Almost. When I think "steaming hatchback," I think of something exactly like this Mini GP, and the steep price doesn't squelch my pleasure. They're only building 2,000 of them anyway, and the units coming to the US will start arriving in owners' hands on March 16 of next year. These buyers will be extremely happy and remorse-free.

Five scorched laps at the very Mini-perfect Circuito Mallorca RennArena showed me all.

Driving Notes

To me, the previous Mini JCW GP edition (the one I'm driving here is referred to by the development team as the "Mk II") came off as one of those well-meant but less-than-satisfying brand exercises - too soft and not separated enough from the stock JCW hatch.

The 211 horsepower from the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder are just three horses better than the $30,800 standard Mini John Cooper Works, and the 207 pound-feet of overboost torque between 2,000 and 5,100 rpm remains the same.

The claimed 165 pounds shaved off, adjustable coil-over competition-grade dampers, 17-inch high performance (and not run-flat) Kumho Ecsta tires on lighter dedicated alloys, sturdy cross-brace where the rear seats used to be, sport brake system and GP aero pieces all have their desired effect on the hottest Mini two-door.

Acceleration is now estimated at 6.3 seconds to 62 mph (i.e. 100 kmh) and top speed is let out to 150 mph.

I talked in the pit area prior to my laps with Mini GP head of development Jörg Weidinger and asked him point blank if this GP was a soft porker like the first one. He assured me that, no, this one was the real deal. He says the adjustable suspension is extraordinary on this edition and both wheel camber and toe-in front and rear have been radically adjusted to improve turn-in response and straight-line thrust.

Latched in to the GP's cabin, I felt right at home and eagerly awaited my laps. Mini chose to have the laps policed by one of their champion Mini Challenge drivers from Germany in his own Challenge car, and it was just me and Racer Boy out there.

I obediently performed Lap One at about eight-tenths and did the responsible display to one and all that safety comes first and I was not out there to race. I was already reminded again why I love this six-speed Getrag manual shifter so damned much.

Laps Two through Four turned into a downright Mini Challenge race weekend. The boy in front of me was good and I was sure he wasn't giving it his absolute all, but we were certifiably rocketing along. In some ways, I can see that dynamically the GP street car is better than even the Challenge car. This setup is killer.

Each time we passed the main straight and headed into two speed-shaving hairpins that fed us into a fantastic long and drawn-out descending right-hander at full throttle, nothing I felt made me think Mini could have done better than this.

All of the chassis notes engineer Weidinger shared with me in the pits came true under pressure: There is a near total lack of understeer, and the hook-up and Velcro-like adherence of the Kumho tires is incredibly liberating. Losing the run-flats makes a huge difference.

Heel-and-toeing is the order of the day and Mini knows about pedal placement. The coil-overs, too, are remarkable. I was cutting apexes immediately and with greater gusto on each successive lap. Coming down off the apex and back onto tarmac caused no jitter, no slide, and I didn't need to let up at all.

The braking sections was where I got severe sphincter-pucker behind my German pal in the Challenge car, but the damned things kept on successfully reeling in all my straight-line enthusiasm.

It's always difficult for me to tell whether or not all the aero dolling-up is actually helping me with downforce into curves or with neutral resistance on the straights. Some of the treatment seems a bit cosmetic.

My conclusion after this brief spin? We finally have a proper Mini GP car, kids. All of the tweaks do a soon-to-be-famous Mini make. It's no longer just a mild brand exercise.
2014 Mini John Cooper Works GP originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 16 Nov 2012 12:01:00 EST.
The two-door Mini Cooper is getting two additional portals in its next generation. A coming five-door Cooper S with central exhaust has been spotted out testing, the idea presumably being that it will pose a better challenge to other small, premium hatches in the segment like the A1 Sportback from Audi. Based on the same UKL platform that will support the production version of the BMW Concept Active Tourer, the wheelbase has been lengthened to make more room for rear passengers.

It should be revealed on the auto show circuit at some point next year, getting buyers ready for its production in 2014. We'll find out then if it gets a special name and how it fits in with - or perhaps replaces - the Clubman.
Mini Cooper five-door exists and has been spotted originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 09 Nov 2012 16:29:00 EST.
This is Cooper. Cooper has awesome parents. Cooper's parents made his stroller/push-car into the time-traveling DeLorean from Back to the Future. Yes, we are very jealous of this tot.

According to his mother Cory, who published pics of her son's awesome costume and matching car on Flickr, the inspiration was from a vest. From the gallery's description: "It all started with a red puffy vest Cooper already had and a side comment from my husband about Marty McFly in late September. I've always loved Back to the Future, and love cars since I was little and grew up going to car shows with my Dad"

The process started with a $25 Step2 push car. From there, Cory spent several weekends and weeknights throughout October creating a DeLorean out of cardboard, tape and paint. The final step was the application of electroluminescent wiring by Cory's husband, Jeremy, to create the DeLorean from Back to the Future: Part II (note the hover wheels and "Mr. Fusion").

He may be too young now to fully appreciate the unrivaled incredibleness of this Halloween costume, but hopefully Cooper will look back with fondness one day on the effort taken by his parents to build this terrific tribute to BTTF.
Parents create cardboard DeLorean for son's amazing Back to the Future Halloween costume originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 19:15:00 EST.
Get your wallets ready, folks. The 2013 Mini John Cooper Works GP arrives this fall, and we've now learned that the cost of entry for the potent little hatchback is $39,950, (*) including $700 for destination.

Aside from an adorably tough appearance, that just-under-$40,000 price tag gets you a whole host of performance goodies, including a turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for 218 horsepower and as much as 207 pound-feet of torque. No, that isn't any more oomph than what you get in the standard JCW Hardtop, but there's a whole lot more to the GP kit. For starters, there's a fully adjustable coilover suspension, not to mention a reduction in overall weight - at 2,558 pounds, the GP is 121 pounds lighter than a normal John Cooper Works Hardtop.

A Mini spokesperson confirmed to Autoblog that the JCW GP can only be purchased one way, and will be offered as an option package on the standard John Cooper Works Hardtop. Its starting price represents a $5,150 increase over a standard JCW model, and is the most expensive model in the Mini range (the next being the $35,550 John Cooper Works Countryman).

With 11 variants available, it's easy to think Mini has already covered almost every possible automotive segment it could. Almost. There's still no Mini pickup truck, no Mini cement mixer, no Mini minivan. And, until now, no seafaring Mini.

But hold off on those Mini-themed life jackets, Admiral. This is one Cooper you probably won't see cruising around your local marina. The Mini Convertible boat is a one-off promotional vehicle commissioned by the Mini USA Eastern Region dealer network for their "Motor-Tober Not Normal Sales Event."

"We challenged our regional staff and the dealers in their respective areas to identify 'Not Normal' ways to celebrate this Motor-Tober by engaging the Mini community and demonstrate why it's an exciting brand family to be part of," said Tom Salkowsky, Marketing Manager for Mini USA.

The craft will have its official launch this weekend at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Fred Schoch, executive director of the race, says the Mini boat will be the first car allowed to float during the race. The craft will be piloted by a member of the regatta's River Control Committee to monitor rowers' safety. Which, we suppose, also makes the Mini boat the regatta's first pace car.

If you're surprised that the Mini boat didn't arrive with a more clever name, just remember: Yachtsman's already taken.
Mini Netherlands wanted to give its countrymen a good reason to test drive its cars, so it threw in a free cup of coffee with the spin - but not just any old cuppa joe. Cars were fitted with a sensor that analyzed the driver's style. The chip was then placed in a special coffeemaker that produced a blend to match the driving; middle-of-the-road test pilots would get a lungo (long) coffee, test-the-rollcage types were given a ristretto (short, and stronger).
The knock on the head for U.S. drivers? Milquetoast test drivers were given an Americano - a watered-down espresso.
For the past six years, members of the Autoblog team have been dreaming of a return of the Mini John Cooper Works GP kit. We fell head-over-heels in love with the two-seat hot hatch when it launched in limited production in 2006, and we're happy to say that our little baby is back. Feast your eyes on the 2013 Mini JCW GP, which makes its first public debut here at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

And what's not to love? Under the hood there's a 218-horsepower version of Mini's 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder, also cranking out a healthy 192 pound-feet of torque (or 207 lb-ft during brief moments of overboost). Hitting 62 miles per hour will take just 6.3 seconds, and hardcore drivers will enjoy the fact that Mini has employed a fully adjustable coilover suspension that allows the car to sit 20 millimeters closer to the ground. Even with the performance additions, the JCW GP weighs in at 2,558 pounds - just over 20 pounds heavier than a base Cooper hardtop with the naturally aspirated engine.

Our favorite part about the new Mini GP formula is how much of its styling is reminiscent of the original GP, right down to the unique 17-inch four-spoke wheels, gray-and-red color scheme (with truly adorable red mirrors), and big ol' spoiler at the rear. We can't wait to drive it.

No more cleverly arranged leaks, this is the real thing: official info on the Mini Paceman and enough photos to choke Getty Images. More than merely a Countryman sans two doors, the Paceman is restylized with a sloping roof, horizontal taillights, it sits lower and gets sleek rear glass over pronounced haunches to play up its much sportier intentions. Anyone who wants a high-riding Paceman, however, can opt for the standard ride-height at no cost.

The inside's been fiddled with as well, the Paceman being the first Mini to have power window buttons on the doors instead of the toggles on the central console. There are two back seats, not a bench, with integrated armrests and Mini's Center Rail system for holding things. The seats can be folded down to triple the available load space.

Four versions are on the way when it goes on sale in the UK in March, 2013, each with its own engine: the 122-horsepower Paceman with a 1.6-liter gas engine, the 112-hp D Paceman and 143-hp SD Paceman with 1.6-liter diesels, and the S Paceman that uses the gas 1.6-liter but gets 184-hp. The S model will dash from naught to 62 mph in 7.5 seconds, three seconds faster than the standard Paceman for a penalty of less than one imperial mile per gallon. The John Cooper Works version in development should do even better, at least as far as speed is concerned. Gear changes will be via the six-speed manual as standard fitment, or a six-speed automatic if so desired. The ALL4 system is available on all models save the base car.

Just six months away from hitting showroom floors in the UK, the Paceman will run £18,970 ($30,727 U.S.) on the road. There's a press release below and that colossal image gallery above.
Continue reading Mini Paceman debuts online, this time for real

Mini Paceman debuts online, this time for real originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 14 Sep 2012 09:29:00 EST.
Our hot hatch dreams have come true. Mini will officially unveil the 2013 John Cooper Works GP hardtop at the 2012 Paris Motor Show later this month, and the automaker has released the official specs - as well as a brace of new images - revealing that earlier speculation was indeed fact.

So, let's get to the good stuff. Engine: turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four with 218 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque, as well as an overboost function that's able to churn out 207 lb-ft of twist for brief moments. Suspension: fully adjustable coilover setup that allows the car to be lowered up to 20 millimeters and features increased front camber to better keep the high-performance sport tires stuck the ground. Weight: 2,558 pounds. 0-62 miles per hour: 6.3 seconds.

Other enhancements for the JCW GP include upgraded brakes, unique 17-inch lightweight alloy wheels and a beefy exterior aero kit that's reminiscent of the JCW GP from 2006. Inside, the rear seats have been removed, Recaro chairs have been fitted for the driver and passenger, and sporty elements like red accents and alcantara trim are now found throughout the cabin.

We. Are. Ready.

Scroll down for the official details in Mini's press blast and stay tuned for the live unveiling in Paris later this month. Only 2,000 of these little darlings will be built, and remember, the line forms to the right.
Continue reading Mini releases official John Cooper Works GP details

Mini releases official John Cooper Works GP details originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 13:28:00 EST.
Mini officially unveiled the John Cooper Works GP back in May, but it has yet to release any official specs or details about its limited-production hot hatch. Fortunately, the folks over at MotoringFile.com have apparently stumbled upon some leaked spec sheets for the European version of the car. (Official U.S. specs and features are reportedly set to be released later this month).

We already knew the John Cooper Works GP is going to be 19 seconds faster around the Nürburgring than the 2006 Mini GP, but what we didn't know is how exactly Mini shaved that much time from the car. According to the article, the new Mini GP will produce 218 horsepower and up to 206 pound-feet of torque (using the overboost feature). Weighing about 100 pounds less than a 2012 Mini Cooper JCW, the new Mini GP can run to 60 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds with a top speed 150 mph.

As we all know, getting 'round the 'Ring takes more than just speed, and the Mini GP has been upgraded with a better suspension and brake system. It is reported this car will get a set of fully adjustable coilovers with an aggressive negative-camber front and rear setup to go with specially designed Kumho sport tires. For improved braking, the Mini GP upgrades to six-piston front calipers. Even the aerodynamics of the Mini GP have been optimized including a shield beneath the engine, a rear diffuser and a rear spoiler.

The new JCW GP will be limited to just 2,000 units total, it isn't clear how many will be earmarked for U.S. buyers. All of the new Mini John Cooper Works GP cars will be two-seaters, painted in Thunder Grey Metallic and equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Leaked Mini Cooper JCW GP specs suggest 218 HP, fully adjustable suspension originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 05 Sep 2012 10:51:00 EST. There were requests from all around to see video of the electric "Mini MINI" radio-controlled cars that are being used to retrieve javelins, hammers, shots and discus' (disci?) at the London Olympics, and here it is.

The Olympic-liveried electric Cooper hatchbacks in roughly 1/4-scale ply the infield grass. The couriers are loaded up by judges in the field, who slot the particular sporting implements into holders built into the roofs, then the cars are driven back to the judges near the throwing area for retrieval.

Based on how many comments on the Mini R/C cars we've seen that are some variation of "Do want," we wouldn't be surprised to see these again somewhere else. You can watch them work in the videos below.
Continue reading Here's Mini's R/C Cooper in action at the Olympics

Here's Mini's R/C Cooper in action at the Olympics originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 07 Aug 2012 14:58:00 EST.
We can't help but cringe at the notion of 'product integration' efforts most of the time, particularly when it comes to movies and sports. That's because as often as not, the placement efforts seem contrived. And while the notion of using a Mini Cooper to retrieve thrown javelins, hammers, shot and discuses at the London Olympics might not seem like the world's most natural pairing, we can't ignore the inherent cheek and charm in using radio-controlled cars for an otherwise unremarkable chore.

Dubbed "Mini MINI," these three electric R/C Cooper hatchbacks are rendered in about 1/4-scale - necessary to ensure adequate payload capacity for up to eight kilos (nearly 18 pounds). That's enough carrying capacity to lug around a hammer, a discus, a shot or a pair of javelins. The cars' large scale also helps them pack the larger battery arrays that Mini says are necessary to run them for 35 minutes (before being down for 80 minutes of charge time). The models are painted blue with orange Olympic livery and white roofs, and they even have working headlights.

The Mini MINI R/C cars will be used at both the Olympic and Paralympic games, and they join a fleet of 160 full-size BMW 1 Series Active E models and 40 Mini E hatchbacks as part of BMW's own all-electric Olympic team. While we're a little surprised Mini didn't choose to go with a Clubman or the load-lugging Countryman like we did in our recent giveaway, we think the marketing stunt fits in well with the brand's fun and funky spirit, and we're hoping that Mini publishes some video footage of their little helpers in action soon.
Olympics to use Mini Cooper R/C cars for javelin, discus retrieval originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 02 Aug 2012 14:16:00 EST.
A group of Florida plaintiffs have come together to file a class action lawsuit against Mini. Their issue is with the reliability of the Continuously Variable Transmissions in first-generation Cooper hatchbacks from 2002-2006 and in Cooper Convertible models from 2006-2008. A cursory web search on the matter returns plenty of results from Mini owners complaining of the same issue, sudden failure of the CVT, and having mixed fortunes at Mini dealers when trying to get the situation resolved.

The Florida suit comes a year after a class action suit was filed against Mini in California for the same reason. As with the Florida case, the California legal action Brad Aarons v. BMW of North America, LLC sees "restitution, damages and other relief" for plaintiffs who were "required to spend approximately $6,000 to $9,000 (one-third to one-half of the original purchase price) to repair or replace their CVTs, or sell their vehicle without repair for a substantial loss...." Parent company BMW has not yet commented on the matter.
Mini sued over CVT failures.

Patrick McKenna, head of Mini's U.S. product strategy, said Thursday during the automaker's Mini Takes The States road rally that the brand is still considering building a diesel model for U.S. customers, but that it has not reached a final decision.

The problem for Mini is apparently deciding if a diesel version will simply divert customers who would have otherwise bought a gas version of the compact car rather than attract new green customers who want to have performance and high fuel economy numbers.

Meanwhile, Mini continues to develop its new gas engines for the next generation models, which McKenna said has produced good results. He declined to give specifics on the engines, only saying that some engines have shown more power than current engines with better fuel economy numbers.

"We have seen such great results with our new three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines, it's difficult to decide if we need to have a diesel engine here," McKenna told Autoblog. "It's a great problem to have."

Diesel owners would likely fit right in with some of the brand's more enthusiastic regular customers. With their devotion to all things Mini, these folks have proven themselves zealous owners during our time on the first two days of the 11-day Mini Takes The States rally. But Mini remains unsure if bringing diesel to the U.S. would be the best use of its limited resources. If they do push forward with an oil burning offering, we suspect it would be on one of its larger, pricier models like the Countryman crossover, which has a higher MSRP that would likely do the best job of absorbing diesel's extra cost while returning the most meaningful mileage improvements.

Mini still mulling diesel model for U.S. originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 06 Jul 2012 17:46:00 EST.
Minis just make people smile.

More than 300 Mini models of all shapes, sizes and years began the first leg of the 11-day Mini Takes the States 2012 campaign on America's birthday, stopping in Philadelphia and then going on to take in the fireworks in the nation's capital.

This is the fourth run of the cross-country trek of Minis, this time celebrating Mini's 10th anniversary since returning to America. (Note: 2012 is also the 200th anniversary of the original British Invasion in which the King's troops burned much of Washington D.C., including setting the James Madison-occupied White House ablaze, before being repelled in the War of 1812.)
Continue reading Mini Takes The States: Brits re-invade Washington on 200th anniversary of War of 1812

Mini Takes The States: Brits re-invade Washington on 200th anniversary of War of 1812 originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 05 Jul 2012 16:30:00 EST. Mini is gearing up for the Olympics in a big way. The company has released a short film featuring a gaggle of former gold medalists, including Daley Thompson, James Cracknell, Jonathan Edwards and Matthew Pinsent. Thompson plays the ringleader of an elite driving squad sent to retrieve a set of gold medals pilfered by none other than supermodel Jodie Kidd. In the film, Kidd sets to tearing through London on a supermoto, pursued by three London 2012 Edition Mini Cooper models. The scenes feature some iconic shots lifted from the classic 1969 film The Italian Job.

Directed by Top Gear lead director Phil Churchward, the clip boasts some impressive stunt driving. There's even a close-formation jump that includes all three Mini models as they sail through the air.
