The Shell V-Power Ultimate Enthusiast Contest is looking for "the most die-hard automotive enthusiast" in the land. The most important part first, being what you can win should you enter: the top three finalists will be flown to Scottsdale, Arizona as guests of Shell for a three-day VIP experience of next month's Barrett-Jackson auctions that will begin with attending the opening night gala.

At that gala, the grand prize winner will be announced, and that grand poobah enthusiast gets to spend a week in Italy checking out "the country's historic sites and rich automotive history." Since that sounds like it could mean being hauled from one museum and car yard to another, let us remind you that Shell sponsors the Ferrari Formula One team. That means your Ultimate Enthusiast Week in the country shaped like a boot will mean getting a chance to use yours, driving a new Ferrari around the company's private test track, and every finalist gets a year's worth of Shell V-Power gas.

The particulars: you'll need to answer six questions and submit a photo illustrating why you're the Ultimate Enthusiast. Entries will be judged by Roger Penske, Barrett-Jackson impresario Craig Jackson, Car and Driver's Eddie Alterman; Road & Track's Larry Webster; Motor Trend Radio host Alan Taylor and Hot August Nights director Tony Marini.

Domino's wants you to design the ultimate pizza delivery vehicle [w/video]

When you want the crowd to help you design something automotive related, Local Motors seems to have become the go-to. The Phoenix-based company that birthed the Rally Fighter has since collaborated with DARPA, Edison2 and Peterbilt among others, and now it can add Domino's Pizza to the list.

The pizza pie maker wants to create, with your input, the Ultimate Delivery Vehicle that will ease the 10 million miles per week its drivers do. A five-part design competition will begin today and end on February 19, 2013, with each phase covering a different aspect of the vehicle: design, packaging, interior, surfacing and rendering. After that will come the prototype... and eventually, better pizza. Or a better pizza experience, at least.

For insight into the needs of a pizza deliverer, the contest will be joined by a national television campaign featuring the Domino's CEO doing ride-alongs with "delivery experts" and soliciting feedback. Lexus' annual Golden Opportunity Sales Event is in effect, and an additional bit of golden yellow to go along with it this year is the Unleash the LFA sweepstakes. The deal is simple: you log onto your Facebook page, check out the Lexus Facebook page, submit your personal details to enter the contest and then spread the link to your Facebook friends.

Having done that, you'll be entered for the chance to unleash the LFA yourself. If you win, you'll be flown to the Skip Barber Racing School in Salinas, California for some personal training from ex IndyCar and NASCAR driver and reigning Grand-Am champion Scott Pruett, behind the wheel of an LFA. The contest ends August 21, and of course the odds are long, but since you'll be on Facebook anyway... and, come on, have you heard the LFA? Stillen wants you to design its FR-S body kit

There is little doubt that the darling of this year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas will be the Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S twins. Stillen is one of many aftermarket tuners hoping to capitalize on the popularity of these two cars, and, in addition to developing performance parts like a cold-air intake, cat-back exhaust, big brake kit and sway bars, will reveal its first body kit for the FR-S in November at the big show in Vegas. The thing is, while Stillen is working on the performance parts, it wants you to design the body kit.

Stillen is now accepting submissions for a contest to design its new FR-S body kit, and what we like in particular about this competition is that you don't have to be a professional designer to win. Stillen is providing the templates to work with, so all you have to do is draw or render what you think the kit should look like from various angles. The contest rules say not to worry if you don't render 3-D objects for a living; judging will be done on shape and design rather than how well you can arrange 1s and 0s.

Submissions will be accepted until August 14th, after which Stillen will choose the top five entries and let the winner be decided by popular vote on Facebook. That person will get a two-night trip to Vegas to attend the SEMA Show in person where his/her design will be unveiled before it goes on sale to the public.

Subaru Canada commissions brand-inspired artwork for contest

Subaru Canada ran a contest with the artist web site deviantART to see how wild imaginations would treat the theme of Driving Confidence. For three weeks, creators in any medium were asked to upload "original creations that celebrate the bold design, superior handling, and meticulous engineering that Subaru vehicles are renowned for."

The contest specifically instructed artists to "push your creativity to the limit," which is why there are plenty of images out of our species and galaxy. The first place winner (pictured) won $2,500 for "Born to Rally in the Snow," the second place getter got $1,000 for "Unleash the Beast," third place took $500 for "Subaru Slot Car Set," and the runner-up was "Subaru Impreza WRC Rally 'The Pass 2'."

All of the entries are on display now in a "space-defying gallery" in Subaru's booth at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toroto, and in our gallery of high-res images.

Chevy launches app to give away tons of stuff during Super Bowl

Because the Super Bowl isn't enough of a spectacle already, there will be 20 Chevrolet vehicles and a heap of other prizes up for grabs during the big game. General Motors has revealed the Chevy Game Time app, which, once downloaded, presents trivia questions and polls about what's happening during the broadcast. Get the right answer or the most common answer, and you're put in a drawing for one of those numerous gifts.

There are also instant-win opportunities so you don't have to wait until next month to be a winner. As to those 20 cars, each user that downloads the app gets a unique "license plate" and if your plate matches a plate on one of the Chevys shown during the game, you'll win a car.

How to be one of the first 86 owners of the Scion FR-S

Along with introducing its 600-horsepower Scion FR-S drift car in partnership with GReddy, Scion has also let all the felines loose from the bag called "First 86." The program makes it possible for a lucky 86 FR-S cravers to be the first to own the rather excellent sports car before it goes on sale to the public.

The process is rather simple, if a little hazy at the moment. On January 12 at 12 p.m. EST, a purchase-request page will go live at www.ScionFirst86.com, and anyone wanting an FR-S will have eight hours and six minutes to submit a request detailing their desired color and transmission. Within 24 hours the chosen 86 will be notified, and they'll have 96 hours to take their confirmation number and $500 to a dealer to officially reserve their coupe.

There isn't much more info to be had at the moment, but that should be enough to get you going until the gun goes off Thursday, January 12. Follow the link to scour the site for more clues, and to everyone who's going to get in the game, good luck.

Chevrolet is running deeper and deeper into social media, its latest reach-out to frienders and lurkers being a video contest called Chevrolet Route 66. More than 190 films from filmmakers in 32 countries have been submitted for the chance to have their effort aired during the 2012 Super Bowl.

On top of that, Chevrolet has partnered with Mofilm to let you - that's right, you - help decide which clip will reach the end zone. But wait, there's more: by voting and scribbling an answer to the question, "If you could drive to any destination in your home country, where would you go?", you'll get the chance to win up to $10,000.

The contest is open to "eligible fans" from Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Mexico, the UK and U.S. So head on over to the link to get watching and ranking, and remembering which hidden locale in your homeland most calls to you.

Bears blanking Packers could win you free car

The emphasis, in this case, rests heavily on the word "could." The mere question of a bet between two folks at Sawicki Motors in Rochelle, Illinois ultimately resulted in the dealership's general manager, Ron Matula, offering anyone a free car if the Chicago Bears can shut out the Green Bay Packers on Christmas Day.

The tiny little hook: you've got to buy your Chevrolet, Cadillac or Buick before the game, and if Chicago manages to make such magic you will receive a full refund. But that's nothing compared to the large hooks: da Bears are 13-point underdogs; they'll be starting their third string quarterback, Josh McCown, who in nine years has been on seven NFL teams and one CFL team, with the stats to make it clear why; da Bears will be without playmakers Matt Forte, Marion Barber, Johnny Knox and probably Devin Hester; and that depleted lineup is playing the 14-1 Green Bay Packers.

History might be on the side of the Bears and Sawicki customers, though: according to ESPN Chicago, "The Packers are one of five teams in NFL history to open a season 13-0 and then lose in their 14th game. All four of the other teams lost their 15th game, too." That's still a long way from holding Green Bay scoreless, but in the words of Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber, we're saying there's a chance.

So if you've been in the market for a model that Sawicki sells, no matter what happens with the Bears at least you can't lose - as long as you buy today.

Ferrari crowns winners in World Design Contest

The models have been made. The designs have been scrutinized. The talents have been exhibited, the ballots have been cast, and the prizes have been awarded for the 2011 Ferrari World Design Contest.

The competition attracted entries from 50 design schools and universities around the world, all vying for the eye of decision makers from both Ferrari and Pininfarina. In the end, the top prize went to a team from Korea for their innovative Eternità concept, pictured in the foreground above.

Second prize went to Samir Sadikhov from the Turin campus of the IED for his Xezri, and third place to the team from London's Royal College of Arts for the Cavallo Bianco.

Additional prizes were awarded based on proficiency with Autodesk design software (also taken by the winning Korean team from Hongik) and for the Most Unexpected Technological Solution (won by Jiangnan University). These prizes were awarded by Autodesk VP Brenda Discher and Ferrari CO Amedeo Felisa, while the top three were decorated by Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, chief designer Flavio Manzoni and Paulo Pininfarina.

Ferrari brings budding designers together for international contest

While F1 teams begin recruiting younger and younger drivers to their development programs, Ferrari is one of the few that brings young talent into other aspects of its operation, as well. The Italian marque has launched numerous initiatives with educational institutions, and has now targeted aspiring automotive designers with an international competition.

The contest brings design students from around the world together to compete for a chance to intern at Maranello, along with cash prizes. Some 50 different design schools entered the competition, of which seven have been selected as finalists: Detroit's College for Creative Studies, Turin's IED and IAAD, Barcelona's European Design Institute, London's Royal College of Arts, India's DSK Supinfocom and Seoul's Hog-ik College. Only six were originally to be picked, but the jury opted to include one more.

The teams are now moving into the second phase, creating models of their designs for a future Ferrari supercar. The results, judged by a panel of jurists headed by Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, will be announced in July. Follow the jump for the full press release.

Help Popular Mechanics find the worst road in America

Popular Mechanics is searching for America's worst roads, and it needs your help. Readers from all over the U.S. are encouraged to submit photos showing just how bad their local thoroughfares are. Once the submissions have been evaluated, PM will choose its top five.

The "winning" roads will get a visit from the Popular Mechanics crew, who will analyze just how screwed-up it is with a custom data-logging device. Strapped onto a car, the analytical tool's multi-axis accelerometer will provide information to the researchers and help them determine which road is the worst of the bunch.

A few ground rules are in place, however, because certain roads have to be excluded from testing. The magazine isn't interested in private roads, or "streets" that lack paving. Editors are looking for standard roads that, over time, have gone from smooth to suspension-busting. Head over to Popular Mechanics for information on sending in your local road for consideration, if you feel it makes the cut.

Ford plans to rename the Performance Package for the Mustang V6, and it's giving Facebook fans and LA Auto Show visitors the chance to decide what moniker it will carry. On the Contest page of the Ford Mustang's Facebook profile, you can submit your choice of moniker for the package that adds go-fast items like a 3.31 rear axle, Shelby GT500 rear lower control arm and Pirelli tires to 305-horsepower coupe.

You can also stop by the Ford booth at the LA Auto Show and submit your clever-yet-corporate nomenclature. The contest is on now and runs until the middle of December. Make the jump for all the details.

Raffle ticket regret at QuakeCon 2010 - Click above to watch video after the jump

QuakeCon is an annual pilgrimage for gamers held near Dallas, Texas. Dubbed the Woodstock of gaming, QuakeCon's motto is "4 Days of Peace, Love and Rockets." At least one of this year's attendees won't be feeling so peaceful, though. QuakeCon sponsor Ventrilo held a raffle for the chance to win a 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 (two were up for grabs at the con). 100 tickets were awarded to attendees who won various tournaments and contests during the four-day fest.

One of said ticket holders was approached by another attendee a few minutes before the car drawing. For $200, he handed over his raffle ticket. It probably seemed like a great deal at the time. After all, it's easy money, and it's not as if he stood a chance of actually winning, right? Minutes later, the seller watched as the ticket he pawned off turned into a brand new Shelby GT500. But hey, at least he got a couple hundred bucks out of the deal - along with a story to tell and a heap of regrets. Bonus: everything is on video, including the fateful transaction. Mid-engined Corvette development confirmed... by Saab engineers?!

1990 General Motors CERV III concept

Before things went all tipsy in the auto market, the engineers at General Motors were apparently hard at work on some pretty interesting projects. How interesting? How about an actual mid-engine Corvette? Autocar says that an unnamed Saab engineer confirmed that the Swedish automaker had actually been charged with developing a transmission for such a beast when the company was still under The General's wing. Evidently, the cog box used a wet clutch setup and was built to handle up to 590 lb-ft of torque. If you're keeping score at home, you'll likely note that those twist figures are just south of what the ZR1 puts to the pavement right now.

How about them apples.

As Autocar points out, that project was canned when credit went tighter than a fat man's socks, but there may be a ray of light in this whole tale. The UK publication claims that GM has fired up the burners under the C7 project one more time, and that a mid-engine chassis will indeed be part of the recipe. If you're buying what Autocar is selling - and we're not necessarily in that group - a turbo V6 will supply the car's grunt, too.

Social networkers are winning all kinds of rides. Ford's might give away an Explorer on Facebook and Citroën UK just launched a game called DS3 StreetSeekers that will be gift three of its new superminis. During each five-day round of the treasure hunt, go to the marque's fan page and a little bit of snooping around the Google Street View map will yield a piece of a DS3. Track that one down, and you could win it.

Chevrolet Europe has posted a call for commercial ideas at Idea Bounty. You, in the role of Creative Agency, are tasked with composing a brief for the Bowtie brand's next spot that will "communicate that Chevrolet is both passionate and practical." If your idea is chosen, Chevrolet has enlisted the services of MoFilm.com and producer John Landau to turn that idea "into a consumer facing TV ad."

There's quite a bit of background for you to get through first, making sure that you know Chevrolet "cars inspire passion in our customers lives everyday" and that the company believes people "buy our cars because they want a trusted partner to stand behind them, doing the everyday things with a little more flair and enjoyment." Once you get that locked in, your job is to write a 30- to 60-second script that shows "that the Chevrolet brand and it's vehicles are both passionate and practical."

You need to register at Idea Bounty for the complete specs, but you'll find samples of the kind of creativity Chevrolet wants after the jump. You have until August 9 to prove you're one of the best Mad Men out there. Thanks for the tip, Stacey!

Pennzoil has launched a new line of products, and they want you to be as happy about it as they are. To assist in that cause, the company has partnered with the RCR Street Performance Group, a newly formed offshoot of Richard Childress Racing, on a special edition 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS that you can win in the "Get Your Key to Clean" promotion.

The Camaro has been kitted and fitted with a Magnussen supercharger, custom headers, Wilwood six-piston big brake kit, carbon fiber aero bits, 22-inch wheels, a reupholstered interior trimmed in Pennzoil colors and a whole lot more. Did we mention the 'old school' grille? You can go to Pennzoil's site to register, but before you do that you'll want to read the press release after the jump for all the details.
