Remember Connect by Hertz? Well, it's gone and it is being replaced by Hertz on Demand. And no, it's not just a name change.

Here in the U.S., Hertz, will rent the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Tesla Roadster, Smart ED and Coda Sedan to members for a by-the-hour fee through its Connect by Hertz plug-in car rental program. In fact, Hertz already rented out its first electrified Smart Fortwo last December and followed that up by handing the keys over to a Volt this past January.
Following the lead of ZipCar, Hertz is launching its own car sharing service under the "Connect by Hertz" brand. Hertz is starting with a slow roll out in New York City, Park Ridge, NJ, London and Paris. The initial fleet of 35 cars in New York includes MINIs, Camrys and Priuses. All of the Connect by Hertz cars are equipped with GPS systems, bluetooth and EZ-Pass for getting through toll booths.
