It's been more than a year since we first saw the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show, but it looks like the compact diesel crossover is finally starting to roll into dealerships. Those wanting to buy a diesel GLK will only have to pony up an extra $1,500 over a base, gas-powered GLK350, as the GLK250's starting price is listed at $38,590 (*not including $905 destination charge).

The turbocharged 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel produces 200 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and Mercedes-Benz has also provided some fuel economy numbers for this model, with claimed EPA estimates of 24 miles per gallon city and 33 mpg highway. There is no listing for the GLK250 on the EPA's website yet, but the figures represent significant increase over the GLK350's lackluster 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway figures, which are for the rear-wheel drive model. The GLK250 comes standard with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system - a $2,000 option on GLK350 - meaning that if you want an all-wheel-drive version of the 2013 GLK, it's actually cheaper to opt for the diesel model. Head over to the Mercedes-Benz site for the full 2013 GLK-Class configurator.
2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec gets 33 mpg, priced from $38,950* originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 30 Apr 2013 17:30:00 EST.
The G37-replacing 2014 Infiniti Q50 sport sedan launches in the not-too-distant future, and for those curious about how pricing and packages will shake out, the car's official online configurator has been launched. Here, you can build the Q50 or Q50 Hybrid of your dreams, with the cost of entry starting at $36,450 (plus $905 for destination).

Selecting the hybrid model adds $7,250 to that bottom line - mostly because the gasoline-electric version is only available in the Premium trim and higher, while the gas-only Q50 comes in a base guise. Adding all-wheel drive, which Infiniti has made available with either engine and on all trims, will set you back $1,800.

There are a number of packages available across the trims, including a $1,400 navigation pack that includes a spare tire kit, a deluxe touring pack that costs $4,700 (and includes the navigation goodies), and the upper-crust $7,900 technology package which gets you, well, everything. Put that all together on a Venetian Ruby Q50 RWD Sport like we did, and you're looking at $51,755 when destination has been added.

To recap, the Q50 is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V6 that produces 328 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The Q50 Hybrid uses a smaller 3.5-liter V6 coupled to a 50-kilowatt electric motor. In the hybrid, the gas engine produces 296 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, and the total output with the hybrid motor brings that first number up to 354.

Head over to Infiniti's build-your-own site to see all of the color and package combinations for the Q50, and scroll through our gallery below to see many more shots of the car live from its Detroit Auto Show debut.
2014 Infiniti Q50 configurator comes alive originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 02 Apr 2013 10:15:00 EST.
If you're still smarting from the shock of the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, we have good news for you. BMW has just fired up the configurator for the 2014 3 Series wagon. Prices start at $41,450, excluding an $895 destination and handling fee. The price tag will buy you a 328i xDrive Sports Wagon with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine boasting 241 horsepower paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. The automaker's xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive is also standard, as is a fuel-saving auto start/stop function and 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-season run flat rubber.

Buyers can step up to Sport Line trim for $2,600, and doing so graces the 3 Wagon with 18-inch wheels, high-gloss black accents outdoors as well as a sport leather steering wheel, high-gloss or aluminum interior trim and a black signature key fob. Luxury Line trim will set you back $2,300 abd features chrome trim accents outdoors and wood trim inside along with other goodies. Buyers can also opt for Modern Line trim at $2,300, complete with a turbine-design 18-inch alloy wheel, matte chrome trim bits outdoors and a range of interior trim options.

Our favorite of the bunch? That would be M Sport trim. While the tweaks are largely aesthetic, we dig the notion of 8-way power adjustable sport seats indoors and exclusive M Estoril Blue paint outside. Expect to pay $3,950 for the pleasure. Head over to the BMW site to build your own.
BMW 3 Series wagon configurator up, priced from $41,450 originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 25 Mar 2013 18:58:00 EST.
Judging by your continued enthusiastic response to configurator notices, dear reader, you enjoy speccing out new cars as much as we do. Better still, there tends to be even more ways to personalize, configure and bloat theoretical MSRPs on full-size trucks as there are with more ordinary passenger cars. In addition to trim level, engine and transmission choices, truck buyers usually have to specify items like cab configuration, bed length, number of driven axles, tow packages, gear ratios and all sorts of bits and bobs.

That's why we're pleased to see the DIY specification utility for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado come alive so soon after this week's Detroit Auto Show debut. While the configurator lacks pricing (General Motors hasn't announced numbers yet) and full options, you can still spec out your half-ton rig, and even print it out or email it to your friends. Beyond the configurator, the new model-specific site is pretty cool, too, with various videos and closer looks at the truck's new features.

The new Chevrolet pickup range won't be on dealer lots until sometime this summer, so whether you're a building contractor, an avid sportsman or just a guy or gal that loves full-size trucks, you might want to check out the link below to keep your appetite whetted. If you're more of a Sierra fan, well, it looks like you're going to have to wait a while - GMC hasn't updated its site yet.
2014 Chevrolet Silverado tows in new configurator, microsite originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 21 Jan 2013 16:05:00 EST.
With its configurator gone live, you can spend some time getting closer to the 2014 Porsche Cayman just unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show. There are no prices attached to any of the selections yet, but you'll be starting with either the $52,600 coupe with the 275-horsepower, 2.7-liter flat-six or the $63,800 Cayman S with the 325-hp, 3.4-liter flat-six. Both those prices are before the $950 for destination and handling, mind you.

After that it's a matter of either/or, each page - Drive, Chassis and Lights, Interior and Exterior - allowing you to choose one of two options. For Chassis and Lights, for instance, you can either have the Porsche Active Suspension Management and bi-xenon headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System, or the ceramic composite brakes, torque vectoring and the Sport Chrono package with dynamic transmission mounts. Being so far in advance of the on-sale date, the configurator appears to be a way for Porsche to get a feel for which packages are in the most demand.

Four months after Ford put its 2013 Fusion configurator online with "survey" prices, the final amounts have been announced: $21,700 for the base Fusion S with its 2.5-liter four-cylinder, plus $795 in destination fees makes for a $22,495* starting price. That's the same price as four months ago, and the same price as the outgoing Fusion. Including destination, the SE adds niceties like a keyless entry pad, power driver's seat and SiriusXM, andwill set you back $24,495 - five bucks more than the survey price. Essentially every other trim holds steady: the SE with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost is $25,290 in either manual or auto, the 2.0-liter EcoBoosted SE is $26,745, the SE Hybrid is $27,995 and the Titanium (which adds keyless/pushbutton start, Sony HD audio, dual exhaust, etc.) is $30,995. A further $2,000 is needed to claim all-wheel drive.

The Luxury Package price has gone way up, though. On the survey site, the package topped out out $2,000 on the SE Hybrid, and cost $1,505 to add to the 1.6-liter EcoBoost or $1,050 to add to the 2.0-liter EcoBoost. It still costs the same $2,000 to include on the hybrid, but now you'll need $2,300 to inject either 1.6-liter EcoBoost Fusion with more plush, and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost automatically includes the Luxury Package and adds $1,455 to the price. All of the permutations and combinations await your clicks at the Fusion configurator.
Ford locks in 2013 Fusion pricing from *$22,495, configurator now online originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 20 Sep 2012 18:30:00 EST.
Honda has pulled the curtain back on its fully featured 2013 Accord configurator, and let us tell you, this large grouping of zeros and ones is positively sprinkled with wonderfulness. (That may be overselling it a bit - there are a lot of options though.)

The bread-and-butter sedan offers up no fewer than eight trim levels for the 2013 model year, with the most basic LX starting off the range at a reasonable $22,470 (once the $790 destination charge has been tacked on) and the Touring at the top of the charts with a $34,220 MSRP (with destination).

The LX up through the middle-tier EX-L are only available with Honda's 2.4-liter, 185-horsepower four-cylinder, while the top three trim levels are fitted with a 280-hp, 3.5-liter V6 engine.

If you want Honda's very good six-speed manual with which to modulate your powertrain, you'll have to select from one of the three lower trims (LX, Sport and EX), and their attendant four-cylinder engines. The four-bangers can also be had with a CVT. All of the V6 cars are only available with a six-speed automatic trans.

Hey, speaking of transmissions, did you know that most Honda buyers who opt for 6MTs are colorblind? Actually, we're guessing at that last part, based on the fact that the manual-trans cars are available in far fewer shades of paint than their auto and CVT brethren. That's right, while your Accord Sport CVT can be had in eight rich shades of blue, red, and grayish-silverish tones, your buddy's Accord Sport 6MT can only be ordered in gray and black. Take that, enthusiast drivers!

There are, of course, any number of exterior and interior accessories that can be added by your smiling Honda dealer, too. We won't run through the full list, but we will say that the remote engine start system, with special key fob, seems like the best deal of the bunch at $400 before installation.

Just for fun, we've added a whole slew of 2013 Accord videos from the box-fresh advertising campaign below. Kick back and watch the car on the move, and then head over to the Honda site and build your dream Accord. It's a great day for midsized sedan geeks.
Continue reading Honda kicks off new Accord sales with configurator, new ad campaign [w/videos]

Honda kicks off new Accord sales with configurator, new ad campaign [w/videos] originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 19 Sep 2012 17:00:00 EST.
Lincoln has officially fired up the configurator for the 2013 MKZ, keeping the option sheet fairly simple with a total of five trim packages. The party gets started with Premiere trim, which includes SYNC with MyLincoln Touch, a huge 10.1-inch LCD information screen and leather seating. Stepping up to Select trim will throw in a rear-view camera, wood steering wheel and new LED accent lighting outside for an additional $1,100. Throw an extra $2,050 at the MKZ and you'll be rewarded with Reserve trim. At $39,450 including destination, the third-most expensive option package includes navigation with voice recognition, a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic awareness and cooled front seats.

Interestingly enough, the MKZ is available with two sunroof options. At $43,330, Preferred trim includes a single-panel sunroof alongside niceties like 19-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel and a THX stereo system with 14 speakers. If you want that fancy retractable panoramic roof we saw when the sedan debuted, you'll have to plunk down an extra $1,795 for the pleasure.

The MKZ offers buyers a total of five drivetrain options, from a 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder or a 3.7-liter V6 in either front- or all-wheel drive configuration to a 2.0-liter hybrid. Interestingly enough, choosing the gas-electric powertrain doesn't add anything to the price, as it's the exact same price as the base engine, the 2.0-liter EcoBoost, for all trim levels. Head over to the configurator to have a look for yourself.

UPDATE: Lincoln has made MKZ pricing official with a starting price of $35,925, excluding $875 for delivery charges.
Continue reading 2013 Lincoln MKZ configurator comes alive

2013 Lincoln MKZ configurator comes alive originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 23 Jul 2012 10:16:00 EST.
Kia is shortly expected to launch a new rear-wheel drive flagship sedan, but for now, the model seen here is the Korean automaker's new range topper. First introduced at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show in February, Kia has just announced that its 2013 Optima SX Limited will wear a $35,275 MSRP (*including delivery) price tag.

Carspotters will note the SX Limited's more aggressive front and rear bumper treatments (shared with the SX), as well as a chrome-highlighted decklid spoiler and 18-inch chrome alloys shrouding red-painted brake calipers. Power folding side mirrors mittened in chrome (not shown above) will also add to the brightwork count.

Performance-wise, there's little to differentiate this top-shelf Optima from lesser turbocharged models (the SXL is powered exclusively by Kia's 2.0-liter turbo four giving 274 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque).

Inside, the daddy of all Optimas is loaded to its unique black tricot headliner with equipment, packing everything from heated front and rear Nappa leather seats (the fronts are cooled as well) to wood trim. Navigation, a backup camera and an Infinity audio system with Sirius are also standard fit. Oddly, the SXL is the only 2013 Optima to get an electronic parking brake.

The new model should be hitting showroom floors as you read this, and Kia has already fired up its configurator, too.
The cupboard of virtual options has opened itself yet again with the appearance of the 2013 BMW X1 configurator. There are three choices of X1 to choose from, the sDrive28i, xDrive28i and xDrive35i, and then three trim levels beyond that: X Line, Sport Line and M Sport Line.

It takes $30,650 in Internet money, plus $895 for destination, to open a configurator account with the sDrive28i. It might appear that the starting price is $31,545 then, but strangely, you must order one of the trim lines and that adds another $1,900 for the X and Sport Lines, or $2,500 for the M Sport Line on the sDrive28i and xDrive28i, and $3,000 on the xDrive35i. We don't know why BMW didn't factor the two lower trim prices into the base price and only charge for the M Sport Line. Regardless, the result is a listed base price of $32,350 for the xDrive28i that's an effective price of $35,145, and a listed base price of $38,450 for the xDrive35i that effectively comes to $41,845 before any options are selected.
Continue reading 2013 BMW X1 configurator is maddeningly complex

2013 BMW X1 configurator is maddeningly complex originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 25 Jun 2012 11:31:00 EST.
If you've got a few seconds to spare, we suggest heading toward the Aston Martin website for a little virtual window shopping. The supercar manufacturer has officially rolled out the configurator for the new Vanquish, and while the options are limited to a gaggle of colors, a few wheel choices and some carbon fiber trim, it's still fun to figure out just how annoying we can make the new ultra luxury machine. Sadly, the company doesn't offer a paisley vinyl wrap to match our smoking jackets.

The online tool doesn't allow you to play with the interior options either, but the site does give visitors a good idea of what to expect from the cabin. Quilted leather seats in hues from tame to obscene and plenty of fine details are par for the course. Buyers can look forward to 556 horsepower from a 6.0-liter V12 as well as a chassis that's a full 25-percent stiffer than anything else on the VH platform. How much will it cost? Who knows, but it will hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds on its way to a top speed of 183 mph. We guess we'd take one without the paisley wrap.
Aston Martin Vanquish configurator now online originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 21 Jun 2012 18:29:00 EST.
If you're just dying to know whether you can order your 2013 Cadillac ATS with, say, the 3.6-liter V6 and a manual transmission, you're in luck. Cadillac has launched its ATS configurator - sans prices - so go ahead and get officially disappointed, as that manual gearbox is only available with the 2.0-liter turbo, and only in rear-drive.

Cadillac shows 10 exterior colors available on the ATS, with four shades of leather and two leatherette trims. We're partial to Opulent Blue Metallic paint and Morello Red leather, though admittedly the two don't really match, which is why Cadillac doesn't allow you to order them together.

Now that we've betrayed the fact that we've already wasted far too much time playing with a configurator that doesn't contain any pricing information whatsoever, we'll suggest you just go mess with it on your own.

We'll circle back once the Caddy team shows us the money.
2013 Cadillac ATS configurator powers up, pricing still TBD originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 17 Jun 2012 14:03:00 EST.
We've heard a former car dealer friend of ours describe selling unloved vehicles like the Dodge Caliber as "a thankless task," but apparently she wasn't altogether correct. Chrysler has begun taking dealer orders for its much-anticipated 2013 Dart, and allocations of the sedan will depend in part on how many units of the hapless Caliber the franchise managed to shift before the model was axed. That's according to dealer sources, Automobile News reports - Chrysler officials won't let on how they decide to disburse the Dart to Dodge dealers.

Automotive News also says that while Chrysler previously said the first Dart models will be in showrooms by the end of this month, it turns out those will just be dealer demo models (though those units can be sold). Non-demo cars aren't expected to show up until the end of July or early August. If you've been waiting on taking delivery of a new Dart of your very own, you probably have a bit longer to wait, so you might as well head over to Dodge's website to check out the Dart configurator, which now has final pricing.
Dodge dealers' Dart allocations depend on how many Caliber models they sold originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 12 Jun 2012 14:15:00 EST.
With at least 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport is no ho-hum grocery getter. Now that we know how much the most powerful Explorer costs, we may have to start cutting coupons. Ford has priced the new Explorer Sport at $40,720 plus another $825 for destination charges. That price tag comes in at nearly $1,000 more than the similarly equipped Explorer Limited with all-wheel drive, yet it adds the EcoBoost V6 and sport-tuned suspension.

The standard Explorer Sport comes nicely equipped, but far from loaded. The Blue Oval offers a 402A package with voice-activated navigation and Travel Link, pushbutton start and remote start for $4,130. Add adaptive cruise control ($1,150), dual-panel moonroof ($1,595) and dual-DVD for the second row and you're looking at $50,415.

That's a good bit of coin for a crossover with a Ford badge, but if you've always dreamed of an Explorer with a boosted sledgehammer of a powertrain, this Sport may be your best bet.
Ford configurator prices new 2013 Explorer Sport from $40,720* originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 08 Jun 2012 11:30:00 EST.
You can now attack the 2013 Cadillac XTS configurator with tame abandon. Why tame? Because there are hardly any options; understandable for a temporary flagship - just about everything is standard or included in a trim package.

The proceedings begin at $44,995 (plus $920 for destination) for the front-wheel drive XTS Standard, rising in increments of about $5,000 through three additional trims: Luxury, which adds ornamentation like dual stainless exhaust tips, LED spotlights and light pipes, and more seat functions; Premium, which upgrades the CUE system to a 14-speaker Bose system and adds the 12.3-inch reconfigurable dash cluster, plus tri-zone climate control; and Platinum, which swaps for 20-inch wheels and installs power and manual rear shades. Step over to the all-wheel drive XTS and the bar moves up to $51,835 and begins at Luxury, moving through Premium to top out at $61,305 for the AWD Platinum.

There are five colors from which to choose, and on all but a few models there are just two cost options that aren't already checked: the $75 engine block heater and the $350 compact spare tire. On the Luxury trim you can add the $1,450 UltraView power sunroof and $795 upgraded CUE system, on the Premium you can add the $250 power rear sunshade. There is nothing else for your fancy to do.

The only shocker we found were interior options: the trims below Platinum get four color options, including a couple of contrasting two-tones like the beautiful caramel and jet black (inset). The Platinum trim only gets two interior color choices, caramel not one of them. Checking all two boxes on the Platinum leaves you with a heady $62,725 for the lot. We'd advise you not to take our word for it, though, and get over to the configurator and start virtually outfitting one for yourself.
Cadillac XTS configurator ready for your own personal livery originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 25 May 2012 11:30:00 EST.
Get ready. The hype machine is revving up for the 2013 Ford Fusion. And it's not going to slow down in the coming months, as Ford prepares to launch it's most important midsize entry in 30 years.

Even with no pricing available, Ford has launched its Build Your Own Fusion website. The configurator will walk a curious customer through all of the variations of the new Fusion from a base S model to the fully loaded Titanium to the gas-electric Hybrid. (The only model missing is the plug-in hybrid Fusion Energi.)

The configurator, which Ford says on the website is for "survey purposes only," will allow you to see the Fusion S in eight different colors (the Titanium model comes in nine - click through our attached gallery to see them all), list out each model's engine choices, features and options, as well continue the buzz the Fusion created at the Detroit Auto Show.

After building the Fusion of your dreams, you can also sign up for email updates, which, over the summer, will be many.

You can now build and price a little Toyota Prius C of your own, all of which can be done in a configurator that appears to have been designed by Max Headroom and Pixar. The latest and littlest memeber of the Prius family comes in four stock grades, conveniently numbered One, Two, Three and Four. To get the game started you'll need $19,710 in configurator money for the Prius C One - that's an $18,950 base price and $760 for destination charges.

Even the least of the four comes with options like Bluetooth and remote keyless entry, the only conspicuous base-model giveaway being the 15-inch steel wheels. Head for the Prius C Four, as we did, and you'll start at $23,990 and get all the trimmings. The single most substantive option at this height is a $1,150 set of premium, bladed alloy wheels to replace the standard alloys. They aren't even an option on the One. The other exterior and interior options are mainly cosmetic, like protective film and side moldings, or convenience, like an ashtray cup and a cargo tray. Checking every box will set you back $26,287.

It's pretty straightforward - for instance, there are nine exterior colors, one is black, then there are two variations on white, red and blue. But head on over to Toyota's site and see what you can make because after all, you can never run out of configurator money.
2012 Toyota Prius C configurator revs up originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 12 Mar 2012 08:28:00 EST.
Members of the Dodge Dart Lovers Club unite: Dodge needs your help pinning down the price and model matrix for the Dodge Dart. As Ford recently did with the 2013 Escape, Dodge has set up a configurator with tentative pricing and options for five trims of the small sedan. According to the automaker, the point is to "provide us with information on how you want to see the all-new Dart," but it's a survey more than a true builder, so "Please note the packaging and pricing information on this site is for survey purposes only."

As of now, the not-finalized price of entry is $17,200 for a Dart SE with the 2.0-liter Tigershark powerplant with 160 horsepower. The standard engine remains the same but the options swell on the next three models: the $19,00 SXT adds things like bigger wheels and keyless entry; the $20,500 Rallye gets a new front fascia and a leather-wrapped steering wheel; the $21,500 Limited installs the 8.4-inch infotainment center and seven-inch reconfigurable dash cluster; and with the top-of-the-mountain, manual transmission, $24,000 R/T you upgrade to the 2.4-liter, 184-horsepower Tigershark engine, bigger wheels and dual exhaust.

The options are plentiful - all trims are offered in manual and automatic, and the 1.4-liter turbo is an engine option on the SXT, Rallye and Limited. Remember, though, some options wouldn't exactly make sense if this were a finalized model. The $19,400 SXT comes with Keyless Entry, but on the $24,000 R/T you have to purchase the $1,400 Technology Group that includes Keyless Entry. Our highly scientific test involved checking every option on an automatic R/T. The result: a $31,050 Dodge Dart.

That's why, as the site says, "The features and prices for the final 2013 Dodge Dart will become available when the vehicle goes on sale in Q2 of 2012. The information on this site may change frequently, so don't be surprised if things look different next time you visit." Head over to the configurator and get cracking, and see all 12 available colors in our gallery below.
2013 Dodge Dart sample configurator goes live, prices not finalized originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 23 Feb 2012 19:27:00 EST.
Chevrolet's fire-breathing, Nürburgring-shredding Camaro ZL1 can now be custom configured for your very own garage - at least your virtual one.

The 580-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8-powered Chevrolet won't come cheaply, starting at $54,995, and choices are limited. Major options include paint (we're kind of fond of the $325 Rally Yellow scheme shown above, though perhaps it's a little too Transformersque), transmission choice (six-speed manual or automatic), wheel finish, sunroof and faux suede interior bits. Given that this is a small-volume model with serious performance intentions, we're not bothered by the limited decision tree offered by the configurator, and it helps tamp the bottom line down.

The configurator for the 2013 Ford Escape is live - or rather, a survey masquerading as a configurator. On the introductory page of small print, there are three crucial bits Ford wants you to know: that "the information on this site is for survey purposes only," that "features and prices for the final 2013 Ford Escape will only become available when the vehicle goes on sale in 2012 and are subject to change," and that "information on this site may change frequently, so don't be surprised if things look different next time you visit."

Once you get past all that you can do a little bit of configurating, from the $22,470* base Escape to the $32,120* Titanium Escape with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost and all-wheel drive. Checking all five options boxes, the biggest price tag we could come up with was $36,595*, which got us treats like a full-leather interior, navigation and Class II trailer tow. Many have made comments on the styling of the new Escape, but we won't be surprised if we see quite a few of these on the road.
