With its new "Your Turn" global ad campaign, Jaguar has introduced its 2014 F-Type to the world of broadcast media. The effort takes aim at the monied 25-54 demographic, which makes sense of Jaguar recently shacking up with the 2013 Playboy Playmate of the Year Raquel Pomplun and San Francisco NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. You'll also be seeing the new roadster on ESPN's SportsCenter, late night ABC talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, the USA Network show Covert Affairs, the Sundance Channel and theaters, magazines and everywhere digital. On top of all that, a social media campaign includes a contest called #MyTurnToJag that will reward four winners with a custom drive in the new convertible.

You'll find the first two spots below, along with a press release on the roaring red marketing onslaught headed your way.
Continue reading Jaguar F-Type meets America in first TV spots

Jaguar F-Type meets America in first TV spots originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 15 May 2013 16:31:00 EST.
Babies and cars go together like screaming blobs of insomnia and sleep machines. New parents quickly find that nothing soothes an irritable newborn quite like a quick drive around the block, and Volkswagen employed that truth in the company's newest ad for its stop/start technology. The spot follows one new dad as he tries to lull his child to sleep with the burble and purr of his Tiguan TDI. Unfortunately, his efforts are thwarted by the machine's start/stop system at each stop light.

While the clip does a great job of explaining how the start/stop system works and what it does for the buyer, Volkswagen took a bit of a gamble by having the system wake a sleeping babe. Automakers spend plenty of time trying to convince the world that their stop/start gear is as smooth as possible, and while this wee Volkswagen enthusiast falls asleep the moment the diesel engine wakes up, the implication is that the system isn't exactly imperceptible. Check out the
for yourself.
Continue reading Baby not keen on VW's stop/start tech

Baby not keen on VW's stop/start tech originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 10 May 2013 12:44:00 EST.
The last time we wrote about the Fiat USA commercial Immigrants, it was to question whether the ad provided our first glimpse of the 500T. That was a year ago, but Fiat isn't finished utilizing that commercial theme. The song in the one-minute commercial was Sexy People (All Around the World) by Italian songstress Arianna, and the Immigrant commercial has been lengthened and turned into a music video for the song as Arianna prepares that track and more for her first studio album.

The tune features Pit Bull and the clip is like a hip-hop video meets The Little Mermaid. Well, until Charlie Sheen shows up. That's when it starts Winning, and you can enjoy it all in the video below, along with the original ad from Fiat.
Continue reading Fiat 500 commercial expanded into 'Sexy People' music video

Fiat 500 commercial expanded into 'Sexy People' music video originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 07 May 2013 17:00:00 EST.
This commercial starts off quietly enough, with some potential customers arriving at a Renault dealership in England for a test drive of the new Clio compact with a salesman. The drive route takes them to a nondescript intersection where the customer is told to try out the "Va Va Voom" button, and that's where the Frenchy action begins when a pop-up theatrical production materializes around the car, with everything from baguette-selling cart pushers to young lovers in the crosswalk to burlesque dancers putting on a show.

And in case beautiful women strutting around in lingerie isn't really your thing, there's a more dude-centric version below, too. You can check them both out by scrolling below, but be aware, the vids might be Not Safe For Work.
Continue reading Renault sells French sex appeal with stripped-down dancers, 'va va voom' button

Renault sells French sex appeal with stripped-down dancers, 'va va voom' button originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 29 Mar 2013 14:58:00 EST.
Despite the fact that the 2013 Chevy Sonic is a fun, plucky little thing - especially in ever-so-slightly hotter RS guise - it is not, in fact, a skateboard. But don't tell that to rapper Theophilus London.

In General Motors' latest spot for the Chevrolet compact, London needs to make a quick run to the store for some milk. And even though, once again, the Sonic is not a skateboard, it ollies, pops and gets air because, you know, it's just so much fun to throw around.

If this video looks familiar to you, it's because this is the full ad that we first got a preview of in Chevy's longer, full-line spot, where the brand's "Find New Roads" tagline was introduced. Scroll down to see this dedicated Sonic spot, along with the older ad, and remember, the Sonic is still - still - not a skateboard.
Continue reading Chevy Sonic shreds like a skateboard

Chevy Sonic shreds like a skateboard originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 19 Mar 2013 19:14:00 EST.
The Poncho is dead. Long live the Poncho. Like certain other reoccurring personal maladies, the aftermarket community simply can't let the Trans Am go without another flare up. The guys at Trans Am Depot have worked up a quick commercial for their newest creation: The 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition, and it watches pretty much like you'd expect it to. The footage is comprised of just about every TA male fantasy you can conceive of, from Daisy Dukes and white tank tops to tramp stamps, bikinis and ice cream cones. There simply aren't words for what you'll see below.

Of course, we like our T-Tops as much as the next guy. If you like what you see in the videos, you can pick up your very own TA by heading over to the Trans Am Depot site. The guys even have Chevrolet Camaro-based versions of the Pontiac GTO if the '77 TA treatment is too much for your tastes. Enjoy, but don't say we didn't warn you.

Continue reading Check out the official 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition commercial

Check out the official 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition commercial originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 16 Mar 2013 19:01:00 EST.
Citroën took advantage of this week's election of a new Pope to promote its clean diesel initiatives. The advertisement in the video below shows one determined Citroën engineer as he climbs atop the Vatican to take care of a pesky black smoke problem. After he works his magic, the famous chimney starts puffing out white smoke instead. We would think a clean diesel would yield no smoke at all, but hey, that's just us. We will say the opportunistic commercial is at least good for a chuckle. You can check it out in the ad below.

The French automaker unveiled a number of vehicles at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, including the updated 2013 C3 shown below. The five door can be had with a spate of engine options, including at least four clean diesel options with power ranging from 70 to 115 ponies.
Continue reading Citroën helped speed up the Pope selection process a bit

Citroën helped speed up the Pope selection process a bit originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 14 Mar 2013 11:01:00 EST.
Full Disclosure: in my younger days, I loved nothing more than tormenting passengers with my behind-the-wheel hijinks. Once, after a particularly artful handbrake turn on a two-lane at around 50 miles per hour, I left one backseat occupant crying in their own lap. This isn't necessarily something to be proud of, but it gives you a glimpse into why it is that I find this ad from Pepsi so damn disappointing. The premise is beautiful. Take NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon, give him a disguise and set him loose upon some unsuspecting used car dealer. Hilarity ensues.

Except that this Pepsi Max commercial is so obviously staged, it can't help but feel like some ham-fisted marketing fail. From the strategically placed aftermarket cupholder mounted mid-dash for the hidden camera to the fact that the supposed dealer Camaro is displayed as a 2009 model (Hint: Chevrolet didn't make any), this clip is about as organic as a Twinkie. Still, we would never turn down a chance to watch Gordon thrash on a rental-spec coupe - only problem is, he probably didn't even do the driving himself.
The last time the group One Million Moms got upset about a commercial promoting bestiality was seven months ago. The offensive ad that time was a Skittles commercial that began and ended with a girl making out with a CGI walrus. Just in case you didn't get that, a real live human girl was making out with a real live computer-generated walrus, and One Million Moms (an organization which is, by their own admission, only thousands of moms) publicly wailed and gnashed their teeth over the promotion of bestiality.

Now new charges of unsavory love of animals have been leveled at a Geico commercial featuring repeat character Maxwell the Pig. Maxwell's a CGI swine who's been placed in various situations for more than a year, promoting car insurance giant Geico and its app that allows Maxwell to get speedy service 24 hours a day. In the latest spot, he's on a date and when his car breaks down in a secluded area, and his date isn't in such a hurry for the tow truck to arrive. From where we sit, the way it plays out, though, is totally harmless; most kids wouldn't even get the suggestion, and any kid ought to know that girls just don't get down like that with digital pigs.

One Million Moms has its eye on Geico, though, saying, "A bridesmaid was flirting with the gecko in a different commercial, so this is just becoming a norm for GEICO it seems." If you think you can stand the filth, the commercial at issue is below.
Continue reading One Million Moms says Geico car insurance ad promotes bestiality [w/video]

One Million Moms says Geico car insurance ad promotes bestiality [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 26 Feb 2013 12:45:00 EST.
Those of you that took our tip and tuned in for last night's Academy Awards may have caught the latest iteration of the famous Grey Poupon commercials, featuring a pair of Rolls-Royce sedans and their condiment-loving stewards. The update to the 1981 commercial was only shown in part on television, however, as the mustard company directed viewers to its website to see the entirety of the Lost Footage spot. Of course if you didn't bother then, you can just scroll down to see the full-length two-minute commercial here.

As you're viewing, note that the Grey Poupon marketers did not, it would appear, get official sanction from Rolls-Royce this time around. While the Rollers in the commercial have all sorts of James Bond-like accouterments, they don't appear to have the official Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornaments, for example, and they have restyled lights and grilles. Check out the new spot below, and see if it stacks up to the iconic Pardon Me original.
Continue reading Grey Poupon's Pardon Me Lost Footage ad airs during Oscars

Grey Poupon's Pardon Me Lost Footage ad airs during Oscars originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 25 Feb 2013 19:58:00 EST.
When we asked you to tell us which of this year's 16 car-themed Super Bowl commercials you liked best, you chose the Farmer commercial from Chrysler Group, advertising the Ram trucks, over Audi's Prom commercial in second place. Turns out the voters in YouTube's Ad Blitz poll agreed, voting the same commercial to the number one spot from among the field commercials in every category.

From there, however, they went in a totally different direction. Budweiser's The Clydesdales spot came second, Samsung's The Next Big Thing took third. The Jeep Whole Again ad scored fourth in the YouTube poll, fifth in our poll of auto commercials, and the Hyundai Team spot got fifth from the YouTubers, but ninth in our poll.

The voting results don't match up with the viewing numbers, though - while Farmer has more than 13 million views, The Next Big Thing is well beyond 21 million. You can read the press release below and see all five spots, lined up for you, one more time.
Continue reading YouTube tallies votes for this year's top five Super Bowl spots [w/video]

YouTube tallies votes for this year's top five Super Bowl spots [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 12:30:00 EST.
Convertibles make you do funny things. Ask someone if they'd drive a hardtop in near freezing temperatures with all the windows down and they might not even answer, thinking the question so ridiculous. Give that same person a convertible they love and you might just have to ask them to please put the top up even when snow is on the ground.

That guy has to take precautions to enjoy his proclivities, and as this new ad for the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible shows, not everyone understands. Have a watch below, and note that there's just one woman in the minute-long spot, and she's nowhere near the car. Seriously, why didn't VW run this commercial during the Super Bowl?
Continue reading New VW Beetle Convertible ad needs no disguise

New VW Beetle Convertible ad needs no disguise originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 18 Feb 2013 13:01:00 EST.
For its second Super Bowl commercial, Lincoln Motor Company has stepped away from the Max Ernst-ian surrealism of the "Steer the Script" spot. No Germans, no turtles, no aliens nor alpacas this time, just a 30-second run through the ways in which Lincoln sees the 2013 MKZ as a rebirth of the brand and everything a luxury consumer would want.

The kind of traditional spot that could run any time of year, the only question we had after watching it was: "Wait - was that... Abraham Lincoln?" Along with the press release from Lincoln, you can view the spot below.

If you want a deeper look and criticism into Lincoln's "Steer The Script," ad, have a read of AOL Autos' column: Lincoln's Super Bowl Ad is a Flop, written by Pete Bigelow.
Continue reading Lincoln's second, more traditional, Super Bowl commercial

Lincoln's second, more traditional, Super Bowl commercial originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 02 Feb 2013 19:03:00 EST.
Another day, another Super Bowl ad from Hyundai. The automaker is planning to show off five spots during the big game, and seems hell-bent on trotting each one out ahead of time to garner the most amount of attention possible. We've already seen three of the ads, and the latest follows one young boy as he amasses a football team to take on a bully. His selections range from a set of body-building twins to a bear wrestler and a freakishly strong good Samaritan. The spot is intended to show off exactly what sort of uses you could come up with for the seven-passenger Santa Fe.

We understand Hyundai's push to roll out its ads ahead of time. Estimations from previous years indicate previewing Super Bowl ads can increase viewership by as much as 700 percent, but there's little call for this slow walk out. The company still has one more spot to show off, and we won't exactly be holding our breath. You can check out the latest ad below as well as the most recent press release.
Continue reading Hyundai lets loose another Super Bowl ad

Hyundai lets loose another Super Bowl ad originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 31 Jan 2013 12:45:00 EST.
And not just any Devil, either. The Dark Lord as portrayed by none other than Willem Dafoe has an offer of wealth, fame and fancy dance moves for the hero of the newest Mercedes-Benz Super Bowl Commercial. The spot follows one guy as he fathoms the full width and breadth of the devil's influence, from rubbing shoulders with Kate Upton to challenging Usher to a dance-off and everything in between. The whole scenario hinges on piloting a new CLA around town. So, does our man succumb to temptation or does he hold out against the forces of evil? You'll have to watch the video below to find out.

This isn't the first time Kate Upton has showed up in a Mercedes-Benz commercial. The last time we saw the swimsuit model on our screens, she was tormenting a team of guys as they slaved to wash her CLA.
We've had some pets with some pretty strange proclivities. There was the long-haired dachshund that preferred climbing trees and riding skateboards to chasing cars, the doberman with a penchant for Krystal hamburgers and the border collie that loved herding cats more than chasing them, but we've never seen anything quite like the pup in the video below. The latest ad for the new Volkswagen Golf in the Netherlands features a one very confused little dog as it harries its owner over the course of a normal day.

From strange behaviors to an unusual series of barks, it would seem this particular dog was raised in the garage. You can take a closer look at the video below to see just what we mean. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have to go train our cats for a new range of tricks.
Continue reading Watch this doggone hilarious VW Golf ad

Watch this doggone hilarious VW Golf ad originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 25 Jan 2013 19:58:00 EST.
Audi has a 60-second spot planned for this year's Super Bowl to promote its S6 sedan, but exactly which spot will air is being put in the hands of Internet users. The ad follows a high schooler as he "embarks on one of the most pivotal moments of his adolescence: prom night." The spot is fixed up to the pivotal moment when he steals a kiss from the prom queen. From that moment, there are three possible endings.

Today, up until 11:59 pm, Audi is running three different versions on its YouTube channel and you can vote on which ending you'd like to see during The Big Game. The winning spot will run on YouTube before the game and then run in the first ad break after kickoff during the Super Bowl. Coca-Cola is running a similar interactive campaign, although its potential endings will involve cowboys, showgirls and a post-Apocalyptic badass, none of which we expect to make it into Audi's prom night spot. Scroll below to view all three alternate ending videos and cast your vote.
Continue reading Choose your own adventure in Audi's next Super Bowl commercial

Choose your own adventure in Audi's next Super Bowl commercial originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 25 Jan 2013 15:00:00 EST.
Reggae super-duper-star and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jimmy Cliff has been using music to send positive vibes out into the universe for decades now, so its no surprise that his message on behalf of Volkswagen is one of redemption.

Dubbed Sunny Side, this web-spot is VW's warmup of sorts for what promises to be another blockbuster year in the world of Super Bowl commercials. Without giving away the game, the euphonious commercial sees Cliff opening his arms and his heart to some YouTube 'celebrities' that might see courser treatment from the likes of Tosh.0, for instance. We can't help but be reminded of Coca-Cola's legendary 1971 Hilltop spot with the "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" lyric, too.

Enjoy the pre-Super Bowl VW spot below, and don't forget to pay it forward... your karma will thank you. For those of you that just can't get enough of commercial-making magic, we've included a "making-of" video, as well.
Continue reading VW Super Bowl teaser with Jimmy Cliff is like a less-mean Tosh.0 Web Redemption

VW Super Bowl teaser with Jimmy Cliff is like a less-mean Tosh.0 Web Redemption originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 24 Jan 2013 16:31:00 EST.
It used to be that a wild car dealership commercial meant a screaming frontman in a hideous suit making terrible puns and begging for you to help him out of some terrible predicament having to do with surplus inventory. No more - as production values have increased so has the number of commercials to so unusual that you spend the first few seconds trying to believe what you're seeing.

Parkway Motors and Parkway Hyundai of Valencia, California have added to the pile of commercials that make us say, "Hey, now that's interesting...." The Parkway Motors video joins a genre that blew up with the Swagger Wagon ad for the Toyota Sienna from almost three years ago, the recent Fiat 500L ad "The Motherhood" also part of the same club. The second, for Hyundai, "borrows" from Psy's "Gangnam Style" to move the kind of metal for "when you want to look cool, cruising in style."

You can check them both out below.
Continue reading Gangnam Style and Swagger Wagon influence makes it to local Hyundai dealer ads

Gangnam Style and Swagger Wagon influence makes it to local Hyundai dealer ads originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 07 Jan 2013 12:45:00 EST.
There are plenty of fans of Tupac Shakur who would have no idea that the rapper who sang "How Do You Want It" and "Str8 Ballin'" could also do a pretty good Langston Hughes with poems like "The Rose that Grew from Concrete." Someone at Ford did, though, and has used the poem from the late West Coast wordsmith to pitch the 2013 Fusion to wider audiences.

Ford not only calls the one-minute spot a "riveting message to the African American community," but says the poem is the "perfect description for the way the new Fusion's design came to be."
