Lotus, the automaker that defines what it means to "add lightness," has created an even more stripped-out version of its already flyweight Elise. Called the Club Racer, this lighter two-seater will make its debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show next month.

The Elise Club Racer is a full 52 pounds lighter than the standard car, and Lotus achieved this by removing the noise insulation and using a motorsport-derived lightweight battery. This might not seem like an enormous weight savings, but when you consider that the base Elise already weighs in under the 2,000-pound mark, even a small weight reduction is noticeable.

To make the Club Racer even more special, Lotus has fitted a sport setting for the car's Dymanic Performance Management (DPM) system. This advanced driving aid allows less-experienced drivers to feel at the top of their game, and can be completely shut off for the more experienced enthusiasts.

Look for the Elise Club Racer to go on sale in the near future, priced from £27,500 ($44,590 based on current exchange rates). Currently, it's unclear whether or not the Club Racer will be available in the United States, but we should have more details after the car's official debut in Geneva in just a few weeks. For now, follow the jump to read the official press release.
In the case of the Lotus Exige S Club Racer, it boils down to an exclusive paint scheme and some added interior bits.

The sky blue and "Phantom Black" exterior ties in nicely with the sports pack black wheels, and harkens back to the heyday of Mr. Chapman's racing endeavors in the '60s. Inside, the Club Racer gets a combination of black leather and carbon fiber "effect" coverings, along with an overhead shot of the Hethel circuit embroidered into the headrests.

Only 25 limited editor "Racers" will be sold, with no word on how many will make it Stateside. With a price of £39,950 for what's essentially a Sport, Touring and Super Touring package equipped Exige S with a Sports Exhaust and air-con, we could think of better ways of building up our own dream Exige.

Lotus' press release in full is posted after the jump.

Gallery: Lotus Exige S "Club Racer"

Continue reading Lotus Exige S Club Racer: New color, same shtick

Lotus Exige S Club Racer: New color, same shtick originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 22 Sep 2007 14:01:00 EST. Referred to as "aggressively-tuned", the CR-spec S2000 will be an available trim level on the S2000 beginning this fall. This all begs the question, how long is the S2000 for this corporeal world? Rumors still abound a replacement is being readied by Honda that may deviate sharply from the S2000's steadfast formula of being a high-strung, two-seat sports convertible. Unfortunately Honda didn't release an image, teaser pic or even rendering of the S2000 CR-spec, so just imagine this garden variety 2007 model as "aggressively-tuned".

[Source: Honda]
Continue reading New York Preview: Honda debuting S2000 Club Racer prototype

New York Preview: Honda debuting S2000 Club Racer prototype originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 13 Mar 2007 18:24:00 EST.
