Mercedes-Benz released the initial photos and information on the 2011 CL-Class earlier today, showing off its updated luxury coupe. We were at the unveiling at the Mercedes-Benz World across from the historic Brooklands racetrack, and now have some live photos to bring you.

The big news for the 2011 CL is the updated engine offerings, which include the new twin-turbo 4.6-liter V8 producing 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet torque in the CL550 model that also offers improved fuel efficiency. The 0-60 mph time has also been cut by half a second. The CL600 (pictured) is also still available, powered by a 510 horsepower, 612 lb-ft torque twin-turbo V12.

Additional upgrades to the CL include new safety technologies including Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Adaptive High Beam Assist, Night View Assist and more. The Mercedes-Benz COMAND system comes standard, featuring USB and SD card interfaces mated to a 7.2 GB hard drive.

Meet the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class. The Silver Arrow has been kind enough to dish the goods on next year's version of the company's flagship coupe and even threw in a passel of photos to boot. So what's new? For starters, the CL550 4MATIC now packs an all-new twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 engine with around 429 horsepower and a beefy 516 lb-ft of torque. The keen-eyed among you will notice that the eight-pot is down in displacement by almost a full liter, but still manages to crank out 47 more horsepower and a massive 125 lb-ft of torque compared to last year's powerplant. Isn't progress great?

All of that extra grunt means the CL550 4MATIC can scoot to 60 mph in a scant 4.9 seconds, but that's nothing compared to the big-boy CL600. The range-topping coupe can click off the dash to 60 mph in a mere 4.5-seconds - that's within spitting distance of a base Chevrolet Corvette. If you're trying to wrap your brain around how a 4,900-pound two-door can manage to bend the laws of nature, look no further than the 510 horsepower, 612 lb-ft of torque 5.5-liter V12 lurking beneath the sheetmetal. Yeah, that'll do. Hit the jump for the full press release, and sit tight for live photos from the car's debut at this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Click the image above for a high-res gallery of the Kicherer CL60

If Drake, the ur-vampire from Blade Trinity, were a car, this is the car he would be. Starting with a CL600, tuning firm Kicherer didn't waste time throwing pieces at the car's already aggressive styling. Instead, Kicherer attacked the CL's jugular: sloppy performance due to the car's portliness.

The biturbo V12 gets 53 extra horses to corral 570 in total, torque gets smacked up to 664 lb-ft., the engine gets a new transmission control module to better deal with the extra juice, and out back, the rear axle gets a locking rear differential. The car is lowered an inch, and firmer springs help keep things settled when it's go time. Will all this turn the car into a cheetah? Probably not, but with the carbon goodies added throughout and the 20-inch Kircherer RS-1 wheels, it will look mighty good doing whatever it does. You can see for yourself in the gallery below.

Gallery: Kicherer CL60

[Source: Inside Line]

M-B CL600 + Kicherer = Monumentally Badass CL60 originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 12 Oct 2008 16:08:00 EST.
While Eric was milling around at the Mercedes press conference, he overheard a guy with a thick French accent proclaim, "As the Americans are fond of saying - there is no replacement for cubic inches." While he may have lost something in translation, the meaning sticks, and then some -- the vehicle hosts an AMG-developed 525 hp 6.3L V8 capable of hitting 60 mph from a standstill in 4.6 seconds. As is the case with most Mercedes vehicles, the speed is governed to 155 mph.

Like most vehicles tuned by Mercedes AMG unit, the changes to the body of the vehicle are as much for performance as they are for style. The wheels are light aluminum alloy, the front and rear fascia aid in aerodynamics, and the air dams suck more air into the engine compartment. Active body control sport suspension aids in the vehicle's improved handling over the automaker's lesser coupe models.

Although Mercedes gave the press the skinny on the car well before its Paris show debut, it's still a sight to behold. Check out more information from Mercedes and pics by Eric after the jump.

Based on the already formidable Mercedes CL 600 with its bi-turbo V12, Carlsson works some of their magic and raises horsepower from 517 to an eponymous 600 and torque goes up to a staggering 740 ft lbs. Even in such a large coupe, this is enough to snap off 4.4 second 0-60 times all day long. Because of tire restrictions, top end is governed at 320 km/h or 199 mph.

And to make the journey towards the double-century mark more enjoyable, the exhaust note has been retuned through the use of new center and rear elements as well as new quad exhaust tips. The interior has been fitted with a combination of Alcantara and leather with rhombus quilting ,plus a Carlsson sports steering trimmed with either leather and Alcantara or leather and wood.

Outside, you'll notice Carlsson's 3/11 Ultra Light three-piece, 11-spoke forged wheels wrapped in 21-inch Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires. And this being Carlsson you'll see unique aerodynamic components, such as front spoiler and rear skirt lips in the typical Carlsson diffuser look, as well as the striking rear spoiler and stainless steel grille insert. The CK60 also utilizes Carlsson's C-Tronic(R) electronic lowering kit that drops the CL 30 mm.

[Source: Carlsson via World Car Fans]
Continue reading Carlsson CK60: More goodness for the new CL

Carlsson CK60: More goodness for the new CL originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 27 Sep 2006 17:21:00 EST. The arrival of the new Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is now supplemented by Brabus' announcement of a tuning program for the car.

The details are familiar by now, but that doesn't make them any less impressive. For the CL 500, Brabus offers a tuning kit that boosts output to 419 horses, and for the more adventurous, a 6.1L engine upgrade that brings 462 ponies to the party. This is all well and good, but the big fun is reserved for the CL 600, which receives the Brabus 6.3L SV12 S Biturbo replacement engine. Its 730 horsepower is enough to make even the forthcoming CL 63 AMG weep. Tires will be happy to know that torque is electronically limited to just 738 lb-ft. That should enable them to last hours instead of mere minutes. A high-performance brake system is available to bring it all to a rest.

As is the case with every Brabus automobile, a full, tasteful aero kit is offered, complete with detail touches like integrated entrance/approach lights that make loading up and getting into the car at night a bit more pleasant. A lowered sport suspension, new wheels and tires, and a new exhaust system round out the technical improvements. In terms of creature comforts, Brabus will customize the interior to the buyer's taste (good or bad).

The cost isn't given, but expect it to be in the realm of "a lot." For those who can foot the bill, a new rocketship awaits.

(Pics, press release after the jump)

[Source: BRABUS]
Continue reading BRABUS rocks the new Mercedes CL coupes

BRABUS rocks the new Mercedes CL coupes originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 25 Sep 2006 12:23:00 EST. Only 20 Signature Editions CL600s will be produced and offered in the catalog that goes out to Saks customers in mid-October.

The CL600 Signature Edition features the marque's twin-turbo 12-cylinder powerplant that produces 510 horsepower and 612 ft-lbs. of torque. The only real change to the coupe is the addition of an exclusive color palette designed to compliment the holiday season. The exterior is Mystic White, while the interior is swathed in Porcelain Nappa leather and Piano Lacquer Black wood-trim. Pricing for the CL600 Signature Edition has not been announced, but last year's offering, 20 specially-equipped S600 sedans, were priced at $145,775 and sold out in just seven minutes.

(Interior shot after the jump)

[Source: Mercedes-Benz]
Continue reading Saks Fifth Avenue to sell Mercedes-Benz CL600 Signature Edition in holiday catalog

Saks Fifth Avenue to sell Mercedes-Benz CL600 Signature Edition in holiday catalog originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 02 Aug 2006 15:32:00 EST. Well, it's too late now for MB to change the CL's appearance, so perhaps an AMG-tuned version will help keep your mind off what more than a few have referred to as uninspired styling. The Straighline Blog reports that while this mule caught testing at the Nurburgring in Germany is easily identifiable as an AMG product thanks to the wide wheels, meaty tires and quad exhaust, no one is quite sure which engine is laboring under the hood. Most new AMG models are coming equipped with the division's outstanding 6.3L V8, except for the 2007 S65 AMG that uses the older twin-turbo V12. Seeing as the CL coupe's a range-topper, MB may go with the TT V12 for the overkill effect, but we doubt many would be complaining if the 6.3L V8 were used, either.

[Source: Straightline Blog]
Spy Photos: Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 29 Jun 2006 08:06:00 EST. Leaked photos of the car have been circulating the web since last week.

Stylish inside and out, the new CL reflects the design language introduced on the current S-Class, but pulls it off better. Where the S-Class seems bulkier (around the trunk area, for example), the CL smooths things out. It looks sporty despite its large size (it's bigger than its predecessor in every dimension).

The muscular fender bulges of the S-Class find their way to the CL, where they look even better and hint at the car's performance. Up front, the familiar Mercedes grille is flanked by one-piece headlamps whose shape is unique to the CL. Foglights are in the opening of the lower fascia.

A character line that gently slopes upward as it makes its way from the front communicates an aggressive stance when the car is viewed in profile. In back, the trunk bustle of the S-Class is eliminated. The trunklid is, thankfully, flush with the tops of the rear quarter panels. The rear end design is refreshingly simple -- no big-butt syndrome here!

The interior, as you'd expect, is absurdly luxurious, with leather and wood aplenty. The CL600 even adds quilted alacantra to the mix, which sees duty as the headliner. Convenience and safety features are simply too numerous to list here (see the press release for more detail), but suffice to say that if a Mercedes engineer has figured out a way to automate something, then it's either standard equipment or part of the small list of available options. The only thing not included is a butler to ride shotgun and push buttons or utter voice commands for you.

The CL500 is powered by a 32-valve 388-horsepower V8 mated to MB's 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic tranny. The CL600 gets a reworked version of the previous car's V12 which is good for 517 ponies and a staggering 612 lb-ft of torque (which is available at 1900 rpm, no less). Unfortunately, the V12 is only available with the older-generation 5-speed auto. I guess you can't have everything.

(Press release, photos after the jump)

[Source: DaimlerChrysler]
Continue reading Mercedes-Benz premieres the new CL-Class

Mercedes-Benz premieres the new CL-Class originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 26 Jun 2006 14:03:00 EST.
