The totally redesigned 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas (formerly known as the Civic GX), America's only natural gas-burning passenger vehicle, will hit Honda dealerships nationwide on October 18 with a starting MSRP $26,155, (*excluding a $750 destination fee). Add in navigation, and the Civic Natural Gas tops out at $27,655 plus $750 for delivery.

A modified version of the 1.8-liter four-cylinder found in the gas-fueled 2012 Civic Sedan and Coupe powers the Civic Natural Gas; a five-speed automatic transmission is standard. The Civic Natural Gas is EPA-rated at 27 city/38 highway/31 combined miles per gasoline-gallon equivalent. Compared against the 2011 Civic GX, the 2012 Natural Gas delivers a 12.5-percent improvement in city fuel efficiency and a 5.5-percent bump on the highway.

But here's the crucial question: How does the Civic Natural Gas stack up against its green sibling, the Civic Hybrid? Well, the Civic Hybrid starts at $24,800, so it's cheaper than the Natural Gas Civic and, at an EPA-estimated 44 mpg in all driving conditions, the gas-electric version is more fuel efficient. But for residents of California, where unlimited access to HOV lanes adds thousands of dollars to a car's value, the Honda Civic Natural Gas Civic might still be the logical choice. Hit the jump for the official press blast.
Continue reading 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas priced from $26,155*

2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas priced from $26,155* originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 01 Oct 2011 17:04:00 EST.
Honda brought the whole family of 2012 Civics to the party at this year's New York Auto Show. We've gotten to feast our eyes on the coupe, sedan, Si, hybrid and natural gas-drinking GX. That's a lot of new sheetmetal to look at, so we decided to pack them all in one post to make it easy on you.

The 2012 Civic coupe, sedan and GX are all powered by a 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 140 horsepower. In uber-efficient HF guise, the same engines is capable of returning 41 miles per gallon fuel economy on the highway. The standard coupe and sedan are nearly as frugal at 39 mpg on the highway. We'll have a separate report on the new Civic Hybrid soon, but in the meantime know that it will be rated at 44 mpg combined, an improvement of 4 mpg over last year's model.

Were it our money on the line, however, we'd trade a few miles per gallon for a bit more driving excitement. The 2012 Honda Civic Si would be our choice, with its new 200-horsepower/170 pound-feet of torque 2.4-liter four-cylinder. Still, this is a compact Honda and, when paired with the six-speed manual gearbox, the Civic Si achieves 31 miles per gallon on the highway.

You can check out all of the new Civics in the galleries below. After that, take a dive into Honda's official press release after the jump.

There are quite a few reasons the Civic doesn't sell in high volume, including a hefty $25,000 price tag and the $4,600 required to install a home refueling station. But according to our comrades over at Translogic, that won't stop the Japanese automaker from offering up a new GX for the 2012 model year.

The new GX will still likely cost quite a bit more than the standard Civic and it will still need a pricey home charging unit, but improvements will also be made. For example, Honda spokesperson Jessica Fini tells Translogic that consumer feedback complaining about the levels of available equipment on the last GX prompted the automaker to offer more "desirable options like a navigation system and upgraded stereo."

We're happy to hear that the GX will live on in 2012 and beyond. After all, it's tough not to love an environmentally friendly Civic that can deliver about 30 miles per gallon at fuel prices that can be one third the price of regular gasoline. We'll be looking out for details on the 2012 GX, along with the entire Civic lineup in the months ahead.
With the CNG-powered ride available at five <strike>Long</strike> Strong Island dealerships and fourteen more scattered about the state, green-conscious New Yorkers become the first people outside of Cali able to put a GX in the driveway. Incentives abound for the $24,590 car, with the Feds ponying up a hefty $4,000 tax credit on the car, plus another grand in credits when purchasers install Phill, the home refueling station that's fed by your home's existing gas lines. Or, as I like to call it, The Most Convenient Thing Ever.

Plenty more in the press release after the jump.

[Source: Honda]
Continue reading Phill 'er up! American Honda Motor announced Wednesday that the redesigned 2006 Civic GX will sticker at $24,440. Although the price isn't particularly low, the federal government sweetens the pot with an alternative fuel tax credit of $4,000, and an additional $1,000 for "Phill," Honda's natural gas home refueling station.

The CNG-fuelled GX boasts an EPA city/highway fuel economy rating of 28/39 miles per gasoline-gallon equivalent, but Honda estimates that if buyers refuel their GX from a home natural gas line using "Phill," the car's fuel will be a whopping 65 percent cheaper than gasoline.

On the green side of the ledger, the Civic GX has been proclaimed the "cleanest internal combustion engine on earth" by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

While performance isn't really the objective, the 2006 GX's 113 hp (a 10 percent increase over its predecessor) should get owners around town without difficulty.

[Source: American Honda]

Honda announces pricing for natural gas-powered Civic originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 18 May 2006 08:03:00 EST.
