The Bollore Bluecar has a deep connection to Pininfarina. The Italian design house and coachbuilder helped Bollore create the B0 (the concept that led to the Bluecar) and has built all of the Bluecars to date. Starting in the second half of 2015, though, Renault is going to take over production of the carsharing electric vehicle at its plant in Dieppe in Normandy, France.
We've heard that the next big paradigm shift in electric vehicle acceptance will come with more 150- or 200-mile EVs. But a new study called Optimizing and Diversifying Electric Vehicle Driving Range for US Drivers says that cars that can go that far really won't make sense for anyone to buy until the battery cost can be dropped to $100 per kilowatt hour. Automakers today are incredibly secretive about how much each kWh in a pack costs, but it's safe to say we're nowhere near that goal just yet.
They say that in China, if you're one in a million, there are still a thousand people just like you. The point being, there are a lot of people in China – 22 million vehicles were sold there in 2013 – so that can help us put today's announcement of 25,000 orders for Zap Jonway's new electric vehicles, the Urbee and Sparkee (above), into perspective.
