We've seen some amusing videos over the years here at Autoblog, many of which have taken the form of clever advertisements. This latest one comes from French automaker Citroën, and as far as humorous ads go, this is quickly becoming one of our favorites.

In the video after the jump, Citroën humorously imagines what it must be like for someone driving a bare-bones car while wishing he was driving something newer with all the bells and whistles. You know, stuff like power windows, sat-nav, a stereo, keyless entry... all the things we'd take for granted on a new car. Click past the jump to watch, and trust us, it'll put a smile on your face.

While it may seem like every magazine worth its bar-code is clamoring to select its own Car of the Year, over in Europe things are a bit more civilized. Seven publications from seven different countries get together each year to nominate their collective Car of the Year, speaking in one united voice.

The process takes place over the course of months. First comes the nominees, then the finalists and ultimately the solitary winner. The super best-friends have just arrived at that middle step, announcing the finalists for 2011, and as in years past, it's heavily loaded with European vehicles, but the list is not without its novelty.

The finalists came down to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Citroën C3/DS3, Renault/Dacia Duster, Ford C-Max/Grand C-Max, Nissan Leaf, Opel/Vauxhall Meriva and Volvo S60/V60. The Alfa's nomination comes exactly a decade after its predecessor, the 147, took the award upon its launch. The Leaf represents the first time an electric vehicle has made it this far in the selection process. And the budget Dacia's selection is of course highly symbolic of the economic climate from which most of the world is only beginning to recuperate. The winner will be announced on November 29, so stay tuned.

Citroën has announced a spate of updates to its compact C3 Picasso mini-minivan, as well as a new special edition to highlight the changes.

Across the range, the C3 Picasso's engines have been upgraded for increased fuel efficiency and compliance with the latest Euro 5 regulations. A new 110-horsepower 1.6-liter turbo-diesel has also been introduced, while low rolling resistance Michelin Energy Saver tires are fitted as standard equipment across the entire lineup.

Representing the updated Picasso is the new Blackcherry edition, based on the VTR+ model and packing the aforementioned HDi diesel engine. The special edition is distinguished by its black paint scheme with red accents, color-keyed roof rails and 17-inch alloys. Normally optional extras like air conditioning, cruise control and USB/Bluetooth connectivity are featured as standard equipment on the Blackcherry, as well. Full details are available in the press release after the jump.

It's really a shame we can't buy Citroens in America anymore. Main reason is the awesome C6. Second reason is that all the small Citroens we poked our heads into at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show had sticks. By comparison, more than half the VWs were slushers. Moving on - check out this cute little guy! It's the new C3, complete with its "Zenith Windshield." As you may have noticed, the front piece of glass goes all the way to eleven. We like this, because as time moves on, safety concerns and styling trends are forcing more and more glass out of the cabin. It's getting so bad that you can't hardly see out of the new Chevy Camaro. Not so in this here Citroen C3. Forward visibility for the win. And the view from outside the car ain't so bad either. High style, low price - what's not to like? Full press release after the jump.

2010 Citroen C3 - Click above for high-res image gallery

The Citroen C3 is old enough in car years that it's getting a re-do before it undergoes a mid-life crisis. The new version is certainly a more mature design, receding hairline and all. Citroen has come up with its own euphemism for it, coining the phrase "Zenith Windscreen" to describe a large windshield that extends further up into the roof than normal to create a panoramic feel to the interior.

The new C3 is a smoother looking supermini than before, with slicker styling keeping it modern and slipping through the air with a Cd of .30. Inside the redone sheetmetal, the interior gets classed up and quieted down. Most notably, there's an integrated air freshener, presumably useful when you're using all 10.5 cubic feet of boot space to haul big dogs or foie gras party platters.

An HDi (Citroenese for "diesel") engine keeps CO2 emissions low, and new powerplants are in the pipeline for 2011. The new engines will use stop/start, the diesel versions of which will drop carbon dioxide emissions further, while gasoline-fueled C3s will also dip below the 100g/km of CO2 emissions level with a new three-cylinder engine. The C3's new duds don't come with the typical generational increase in weight, and the Chevron-emblazoned C-class car will motor onto the small car battlefield ready to earn more accolades with its latest generation. Follow the jump for Citroen's official press releas,e or browse over the C3's new design in the high-res gallery below.

Gallery: 2010 Citroen C3

[Source: Citroen]
Continue reading Officially Official: 2010 Citroen C3 is here

Officially Official: 2010 Citroen C3 is here originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 14:00:00 EST.
Last month we noted that Citroen was gearing up to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its most iconic model, the 2CV. For those not familiar with the 2CV, it is to France what the Beetle was to Germany or the Cinquecento was to Italy. Although some suggested that Citroen could be preparing to resurrect the model with a retro throwback of its own, it now appears the French automaker has had its hands full preparing the Hypnos concept, the C6 Office and the new C3 Picasso. So to mark the 2CV's birthday, Citroen is launching a special edition of its quirky little convertible called the C3 Pluriel Charleston.

The special edition takes the same name and paint scheme as the original 2CV 6 Charleston, but that only begs the question as to why a French automaker has named a French car for the French market after a city in South Carolina that the French can't even pronounce. The Pluriel, now on the market since 2003, features an awkward multi-function roof that can be deployed in different configurations... a setup we hope Fiat manages to improve on with the upcoming 500 Cabrio Coach. The Charleston edition, meanwhile, upgrades with a leather interior, chrome trim, 15-inch alloys (don't get too excited now) and a special interior.

There are many European cars we wish we could get in the United States. We'll let the French keep this one.

click above for more hi-res shots of Citroën's new C3 Picasso

It sounds as if Citroën sees it's new C3 Picasso as a rolling contradiction in terms. According to the automaker, it is compact and spacious and blends strength and comfort; quality and affordability; performance and economy; contemporary and retro design; square shapes and flowing curves and style and practicality. All right, we can give them style and practicality, which the peculiar C3 seems to offer in spades -- though the French people mover is stylish in the same way it's namesake's paintings are a beautiful, if not an acquired taste. After reading through Citroën's press release, pasted after the break, it sounds as if there are plenty of innovative storage options as well. We do like how the automaker revels in its own quirkiness and was able to make the cockpit seem so bright and airy with all that glass. Four engines will be offered, two gas and two diesel. I'm talking about the new Citroën C3 Pluriel Latte, a special edition of the company's droptop minicar.

It's differentiated from other Pluriels by its creamy Ivory paint color and dark grey and cream-colored two-tone leather interior. The rub strips and roof arches are finished in an aliminum look instead of the standard black.

Like all C3 Pluriels, the Latte's power sliding soft top adds a great deal of versatility. When fully closed, the car is a hatchback. It can also be opened three-quarters of the way to make a panoramic roof or rolled back completely to create a full open-top experience. Removing the side rails turns it into a traditional-looking convertible, as seen above. The C3 minisite has nice flash demos of the roof mechanism in action. In addition to all the regular standard equipment, the Pluriel Latte also gets A/C and electric folding mirrors as part of its special edition trim package.

The Latte is powered by a gasoline-sipping 1.4L four-cylinder that generates 75 horsepower and gets 41.5 miles per gallon in combined usage. You can read up on the rest of the car's tech specs at the Citroën UK site.

With its rich color combination, the Latte makes a nice addition to the C3 Pluriel lineup. Above above all else, it's a neat little car. Pricing is set at £12,745.

(Additional info after the jump)

[Source: Citroën]
Continue reading Citroën starts selling Lattes

Citroën starts selling Lattes originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 24 Jul 2006 14:03:00 EST.
