If the show won't come to France, then France will go to the show. So while it may be Frankfurt's turn to host the alternating European car show this year while Paris sits this one out, that doesn't mean that French automakers haven't got a few tricks up their sleeves. Although we're still waiting to see what Bugatti has got in store for the Frankfurt show, Renault is coming with three new electric vehicles, Peugeot's using the venue to unveil the new 3008 HYBrid, 5008 and 308 RCZ, and Citroën has got the new C3 and its premium counterpart DS3 to show off. But the chevron-emblazoned PSA auto division has just released a teaser shot of yet another vehicle on the docket for unveiling in Frankfurt, and it could be the most interesting of them all.

Not much in the way of information accompanies the teaser you see above, but reports suggest this could be a new C1 or C2 hatchback. Bearing ties to the original, iconic 2CV that put Citroën on the map, the new show car isn't expected to form part of any other Citroen project currently under way, so we'll have to wait until the show to find out more. Check out a higher-res version of the image above by clicking on it, as well as the super short press statement available after the jump.

[Source: Citroën]
Continue reading Citroën teases a modern 2CV ahead of Frankfurt debut

Citroën teases a modern 2CV ahead of Frankfurt debut originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 08 Sep 2009 08:26:00 EST. From what we can gather, a trio of Dongfeng Citroën C2s will be on hand, one in the red-and-white motif you see above, and two more sporting the automotive equivalents of the official Team Italia uniform. If the sketches are any indication, the cars will be given a dressed-up, rally-car look as well, with updated fascias, wheels, and the like. Whether a Citroën/Kappa trim package model is in the works for China is not clear, but at the very least, these show cars ought to be interesting to see when they're unveiled.

Gallery: Dongfeng Citroen C2 Kappa Editions

[Sources: Autoblog Chinese, FoMoCo News]
Beijing '08 Preview: Dongfeng Citroen C2 to wear Kappa threads originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 29 Mar 2008 15:33:00 EST.

Proof that the Transformers franchise speaks to everyone wherever they live is this: a group of Chinese -- craftsmen? -- made a 1:1 scale transformer from a Citroen C2. The unnamed Autobot (at least, we couldn't read its name in Chinese) stands nearly 14-feet tall, weighs 1,320 pounds, and supposedly cost $8,000 to build. Talk about your Monster Garage... Follow the jump to watch the video, which based on the screen capture above looks like actual grainy footage of an Autobot on your local evening news.

Thanks for the tip, Gabriel!

The Chinese Citroën C2, you see, is is built on the Peugeot 206 platform. The 206 bloodlines show: notice that the C2 China's hood is vented in the exact same spots as the 206. While it's badged a C2, it has nothing in common with the European-market car whose name it shares.

Despite its ties to the older Peugeot, this C2 is still a stylish automobile. A five-door hatchback, it wears a slightly upturned variation of the C4-C5-C6 grille, with its open "wings" angling up into the headlamps. That, combined with the larger opening below the bumper, gives the face a meaner, more purposeful look than its Euro cousins. Two gasoline engines will be offered -- the 1.4i (75hp) and the 1.6i 16V (106 hp). The 1.4i will be available only with a 5-speed manual, while buyers of the 1.6i can opt for a 4-speed automatic.

The base SX trim offers a good level of standard equipment, with the EX adding goodies like leather and an optional power sunroof. Oddly, the SX trim only features power windows up front. backseaters must make do with cranks. Customers who want to have power windows all around must select the better-optioned EX. How weird is that?

This C2 joins an eclectic lineup of Citroëns in China, ranging from the unbelievably dated and excellently-named Fukang to the modern C-Triomphe. It'll be in dealerships at the end of 2006, and Citroën hopes the car will leave them at a brisk pace -- the plan is to locally build as many as 40,000 of them a year once they hit the market.

Related Posts:
