Unfortunately, we were not allowed take any photos or video at the event, although General Motors officials did say we could write about anything that was discussed. <br />
<br />
The presentation kicked off with an introduction to new Chevrolet general manager Jim Campbell who just assumed his role a week ago. Campbell and Mike Simcoe, director of exterior design, then spent the next half-hour showing off the same batch of new Chevrolets that we were shown in the GM design dome last August. All of these cars including the forthcoming Orlando MPV, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/cruze">Cruze</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/camaro">Camaro convertible</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/volt">Volt</a> and the all-new 2012 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/malibu">Malibu</a> are promised to be in U.S. Chevrolet showrooms within the next 24 months. The Orlando remains pretty true to the 2008 concept, with the only real changes being to the details of the light clusters - just don't look for it at the Detroit show. <br />
<br />
Anchoring the entr- level end of the Bowtie's lineup will be the Spark and Aveo. Campbell reaffirmed that the Spark will be coming to the U.S. in 2011, putting to rest - at least for the moment - rumors that the program had been canceled. The bigger news is the next <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/22/spy-shots-first-look-at-the-2011-chevy-aveo/ ">Aveo</a> which will get its first public viewing at next month's show. Read on after the jump for more details and observations.<br />

<br />
Still <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/07/booo-gm-also-canceling-cobalt-ss-sedan-for-2010/">mourning the death</a> of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/chevrolet/">Chevrolet</a>'s pint-sized pocket rocket, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/cobalt">Cobalt SS</a>? According to a report from <em>Motor Authority</em>, you're not alone, and a number of those fellow fans come from right inside Chevrolet's own hallways. This begs the question: With the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/cruze">Cruze</a> set to replace the aging Cobalt for the 2011 model year, is there any chance that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/">General Motors</a> will revive the SS nomenclature for a high performance version? Could be, though we're certainly not holding our breathe.<br />
<br />
The powerplant for the supposed Cruze SS is ripe for the picking in the form of the excellent 260-horsepower turbocharged and direct injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder called Ecotec and six-speed manual gearbox as seen in the defunct Cobalt SS and still-available <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/hhr">HHR SS</a>, including the very cool Launch Control and No-Lift Shift technology. Of course, the Cruze's rear torsion bar suspenders may limit the car's handling prowess a bit, but a wholesale redesign would cost way too much for a low-volume SS model.<br />
<br />
In any case, if the car ever does come to market - and, like we said, we're not holding our breathe - it won't appear right away, perhaps instead for the car's planned mid-cycle refresh in 2014.<br />

With the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a> near at hand, Chris, Dan, and Editor Extraordinaire Paukert sat down and talked over some of the latest for Episode #155 of the Autoblog Podcast. First up is the surprisingly thorough <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/30/2011-ford-mustang-v6-la-2009-preview/">re-rework of the Mustang</a>, before we move on to talk about the early release of U.S.-spec <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/30/2011-ford-fiesta-gets-another-early-reveal/">Ford Fiesta pictures</a>. Gazing at photos brings us to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/29/la-preview-2011-chevy-cruze-finally-unveiled-in-u-s-market-tri/ ">Chevrolet Cruze</a>, which has also been lensed in North American garb. The Chinese-market <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/30/new-buick-excelle-debuts-in-china-sedan-coming-to-america-soon/">Buick Excelle</a> is rumored as a possibility for our market, and we scratch our heads about that for a while. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/30/report-toyota-dealers-caught-out-by-pedal-entrapment-recall/">Toyota's handling of its gas pedal recall</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/30/nissan-to-offer-low-price-nav-system-for-high-volume-products/">Nissan's low-priced and well-integrated navigation unit</a> wraps it up before we move on to some of your questions. Right before signing off, we jump back to talk briefly about the newly unveiled Audi A8 and Saab's sad fortunes. At one hour, 50 minutes, it's an epic. We blame Paukert. <br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2011 Chevrolet Cruze - click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
More than a year after first showing us a styling buck and nearly as long since launching it overseas, General Motors is finally showing off the production Chevy Cruze for North America. Set to be shown publicly this week at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a>, the Cruze is still a good eight or nine months away from arriving in U.S. showrooms. <br />
<br />
When it does finally arrive, the Cruze should be a huge step forward from the Chevy Cobalt, and GM hopes it will be an able competitor to the next-generation Honda Civic and Ford Focus, which are slated to arrive not long afterward. The Cruze is slightly larger than the Cobalt, but will be powered by downsized engines, including a new 1.4-liter turbocharged four cylinder with 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, as well as a 1.8-liter normally-aspirated unit with similar power but less torque. All Cruze models will get six-speed gearboxes - either manual or automatic. The turbo Cruze is expected to score an impressive 40 mpg EPA highway rating. <br />
<br />
Based on our <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/28/first-drive-chevrolet-volt-powertrain-mule/">brief experience driving a Chevy Volt powertrain mule</a> (Cruze and Volt share common DNA), the Chevrolet Cruze should be more refined than the outgoing Cobalt by an order of magnitude, with a roomier interior and much better-executed passenger cabin. We'll see it in person later this week in L.A., and in the meantime, you can check out the first official images from GM in the gallery below. The official press release follows after the jump.<br />

<br />
Like other automakers, General Motors would prefer to avoid the recall stigma that plagued first-year examples of rival Ford's Focus a decade ago. North American versions of that car were recalled five times in the first year to fix early production glitches. The new Chevrolet Cruze had been scheduled to launch production at the company's Lordstown, Ohio factory in April of next year, but according to<em> The Detroit News</em>, that timeline has now been pushed back to July. <br />
<br />
Although earlier launches of the Cruze in China and Europe have not endured any serious problems, this is the company's first major new product since it was re-born out of bankruptcy this summer, and GM wants to avoid anything going wrong in the U.S. as well. <br />
<br />
The Cruze is expected to hit 40 mpg in highway driving with its new 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. According to the DetNews, the delay will also give GM time to have every variant of Cruze ready for customers on day one. Often, production launches are staggered with some trim levels and build combinations held back at first. This frequently causes problems for an automaker if they don't build enough examples of the models people actually want to buy. <br />

<br />
General Motors announced today that it will spend $230 million on four facilities in the Flint, Michigan area that will support the production of the new Chevy Cruze compact and the Volt extended-range EV. The biggest chunk of the money ($202 million) is being spent on the Flint South Engine plant. The line that currently builds the inline five- and six-cylinder engines used in the Chevrolet Colorado and Hummer H3 is being revamped. That line will now build the 1.4-liter Family 0 engines that will be used in the Cruze and Volt. Originally, GM had planned to construct a new factory adjacent to Flint South, but that plan was canceled last fall as the financial crisis hit the already embattled automaker. <br />
<br />
The Flint Metal Center a few miles away is getting updates that will allow it to stamp the sheet steel body panels for the Volt. The other two facilities are designing and building the stamping dies and welding robots that will be used to produce the panels and put them together at the Detroit-Hamtramck (Volt) and Lordstown,Ohio (Cruze) factories. GM's official press release is after the jump.<br />

<br />The idea behind building a stunning performance car like the new Chevy Camaro is as much about selling the car itself as it is about casting a bright light on the rest of the automaker's range. The muscle car in the window may bring you into the dealership, but you're more likely to walk out with something more practical. Say, a Cruze, for example.<br /><br />That's what happened with one customer in China, where the price of an imported Camaro is, according to one report at least, the equivalent of a whopping $200,000. Having apparently geeked out like the rest of us at Michael Bay's blockbuster hit <em>Transformers</em>, the customer looks to have fallen in love with Bumblebee like that little punk Shia LeBeouf with Megan Fox (who really should be with a certain blogger whose name starts with an "N" and ends with an "oah"), but...where were we? Oh yeah, the Chinese fan gave his Chevy Cruze the full Bumblebee treatment, which looks to have involved a bit more than just plastering on some racing stripes. Check it out in the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-with-bumblebee-treatment/low/">Chevrolet Cruze with Bumblebee treatment</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-with-bumblebee-treatment/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/cruzetocamero13-frontpage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-with-bumblebee-treatment/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/cruzetocamero16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-with-bumblebee-treatment/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/cruzetocamero_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-with-bumblebee-treatment/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/cruzetocamero15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-with-bumblebee-treatment/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/cruzetocamero1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.chinacartimes.com/2009/06/04/want-a-camaro-cant-afford-one-convert-your-cruze/">China Car Times</a> I Images: <a href="http://club.sohu.com/">Club.Sohu.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/04/chinese-market-chevrolet-cruze-transformed-into-camaro-aping-bab/">Chinese-market Chevrolet Cruze transformed into Camaro-aping baby Bumblebee</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 04 Jun 2009 11:29:00 EST. <br />While a set of races in the World Touring Car Championship might not ordinarily be something we'd cover here at Autoblog - we doubt you'll mind the spoiler - this weekend's rounds in Marrakech, Morocco, held a series of firsts for the international racing series. Not only was this the first time the championship headed into Africa, but the new Chevy Cruze scored its first pole position and followed up by taking first place in both races, with Nicola Larini taking his first race victory in the series.<br /><br />The former grand prix driver raced for Ligier-Ford, Modena-Lamborghini and Scuderia Ferrari, scoring a career-best second-place finish with the latter at San Marino in 1994 after taking the DTM title in Germany the year before. The veteran Italian racer has been with the Chevy team in the WTCC since 2005, and scored his first race victory in the series in <a href="http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75042">the second round</a> of the double-header in Marrakech after his team-mate Rob Huff turned the first pole position for the new Chevrolet Cruze racer into the car's maiden victory in <a href="http:// http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75038">the first race</a>. Huff's domination from start to finish was only compounded by the fastest laps that the Cruze claimed en route to the checkered flag in both races. The duo faced tough opposition from a field composed primarily of Seat Leon TSFI and BMW 320si touring cars, but the new Chevy, which was <a href="http:// http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/13/gm-unveils-chevrolet-cruze-wtcc-racer/">unveiled last October</a> before receiving its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/05/chevy-cruze-wtcc-livery-gets-official-italian-reveal/">official livery in December</a>, ultimately prevailed at the new North African track. <span style="font-style: italic;">Details in the press release after the jump, high-res photos in the gallery below.</span><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-at-marrakech-wtcc/low/">Chevrolet Cruze at Marrakech WTCC</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-at-marrakech-wtcc/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/cruze-wtcc-marrakech_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-at-marrakech-wtcc/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/cruze-wtcc-marrakech_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-at-marrakech-wtcc/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/cruze-wtcc-marrakech_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-at-marrakech-wtcc/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/cruze-wtcc-marrakech_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-cruze-at-marrakech-wtcc/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/cruze-wtcc-marrakech_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Chevrolet and Autosport]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/04/cruze-contol-new-chevy-wtcc-car-takes-first-pole-double-victor/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cruze Contol: New Chevy WTCC car takes first pole, double victories in Morocco</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/04/cruze-contol-new-chevy-wtcc-car-takes-first-pole-double-victor/">Cruze Contol: New Chevy WTCC car takes first pole, double victories in Morocco</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 04 May 2009 10:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><strong><em><small>2011 Chevy Cruze (U.S. model) - Click above for high-res gallery</small></em></strong><br /></div>
<br />While the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/21/gm-releases-official-pics-of-2011-chevy-cruze/">Chevy Cruze</a> isn't coming to the U.S. until 2010, the attractively styled compact is set to go on sale in Europe this July. General Motors released pricing for the Cruze in advance of its Euro launch, and the Bow Tie brand is going right after the bottom line of the Ford Focus. The Cruze starts at &pound;11,545 ($15,883 in U.S. dollars) with a 1.6-liter, 111-hp petrol engine. That's about &pound;1,800 cheaper than the Focus, giving the fuel efficient Cruze the price edge in a down automotive market. Opt for the 1.6-liter petrol LS model and expect to part with &pound;12,595 ($17,335). The top of the line LT model comes equipped with a 1.8-liter gas engine or 2.0-liter diesel and starts at &pound;13,595 ($18,712). <br /><br />While prices in the UK typically don't translate well to U.S. dollars, $15,883 for the base Cruze would put it in the same price class as the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. We should, however, receive a discount for having to wait a year longer than the Europeans. <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/">2010 Chevy Cruze - live shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-24_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.channel4.com/4car/news/news-story.jsp?news_id=18921">Channel 4</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/11/chevrolet-releases-cruze-pricing-for-u-k/">Chevrolet releases Cruze pricing - for U.K.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 08:57:00 EST. According to Bob Lutz, test mules of the extended-range electric vehicle are now being built atop the soon-to-be-released Chevy Cruze. This is a logical progression since the production Volt will share its Delta underpinnings with the new compact from General Motors when it finally goes on sale in 2010. Prior to these latest mules, the test cars used last-gen Malibu shells that Lutz and the team affectionately referred to as "MaliVolts." Predictably, Mr. Lutz praises the new Delta platform, and we have every reason to believe that it will be leaps and bounds better than its Cobalt forebear, just as that model is light-years ahead of the Cavalier it replaced. Lutz goes on to say that the battery pack, motor and internal combustion engine are all working very well together, even in the freezing cold temperatures around Detroit these days. It all sounds rather promising, though it'd be even better if that first paragraph on the <a href="http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/archives/2008/11/volt_the_next_phase.html">FastLane Blog</a> weren't necessary, right?<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/archives/2008/11/volt_the_next_phase.html">GM FastLane</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/lutz-update-volt-moves-from-malibu-to-cruze-mules/">Lutz Update: Volt moves from Malibu to Cruze mules</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 17:58:00 EST. General Motors partner Daewoo is producing the fuel efficient sedan for Korea, the first market to get one of GM's most important future vehicles. The Cruze is the first truly global vehicle that the General will produce, with a keen eye on fuel economy and scalability. The Lacetti Premiere will come equipped with the same 1.6L powerplant with 140 hp as the rest of the world, meaning fuel economy is reported to approach 40 mpg on the highway. Europe won't receive the Cruze until early 2009, with the U.S. getting the Bow Tie-branded sedan in 2010... <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/27/gm-may-delay-cruze-and-malibu/">at the earliest</a>. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/">2011 Chevy Cruze</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/002_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://%20http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/1981408/">Trading Markets</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/30/gm-launches-cruze-in-south-korea-as-lacetti-premiere/">GM launches Cruze in South Korea as Lacetti Premiere</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 30 Oct 2008 15:01:00 EST. <br />As General Motors burns through $1 billion in cash each month, the automaker's belt-tightening continues unabated, spanning the spectrum from lay-offs to shutting down the escalators at the RenCen. Naturally, its products aren't immune from the cash-strapped hatchet.<br /><br />First came word that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/24/gm-cutting-costs-by-delaying-debut-of-lacrosse-and-cts-coupe/">CTS Coupe and Buick Lacrosse debuts have been delayed</a>, and now <em>BusinessWeek</em> reports that the Cruze's launch has been put off by a year, now set to hit dealers in 2011. Additionally, the next generation Malibu won't be out until 2013 - six months after it was due to arrive.<br /><br />GM spokesperson Dee Allen wouldn't get into specifics, only saying that new-car programs "are going to shift around a bit."<br /><br />The General's decision to put off development of certain projects isn't surprising considering the automaker's current predicaments (that's putting it lightly), and it's more a move to limit costs as 2008 draws to a close, saving money for 2009, what will surely be GM's make-or-break year.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/">2011 Chevy Cruze</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/002_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/">2010 Chevy Cruze - live shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-24_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/oct2008/bw20081023_883385.htm">BusinessWeek</a> via <a href="http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/10/25/chevrolet-cruze-delayed-until-2011-malibu-until-2013/">eGMCarTech</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/27/gm-may-delay-cruze-and-malibu/">GM may delay Cruze and Malibu</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 27 Oct 2008 07:28:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><small>Click above for high-res gallery of the Chevy Cruze LT</small></em></strong><br /></div>
<br />The Chevrolet Cruze is three kinds of car: small, American and important. And with the state of General Motors, it isn't even the individual words that mean the most: it's whether The General can combine them into a reliable, fuel efficient and cost effective package. True, we don't get to drive these things while they're parked under the lights, but to have a seat in the Cruze is to imagine a GM that begs the question, "Where was all this before the meltdown?" The studio imagery we've seen so far translates nicely into real life, and the center console looks and feels substantial - in fact, it looks like it could be <em>foreign</em> - even if the silver mesh treatment in the show car was a bit much. The car has a compact yet full-bodied stance, and will probably look even better on the road in a color other than scarlet, and not under klieg lights. Spring of '09 will welcome this first Cruze variant to Europe, after which other regions will get it, as well as a probable hatchback and wagon. It will be powered by a 1.4-liter turbo four-cylinder that charts up to 140 hp and is said to return 40 mpg. Have a look at the high-res gallery of live shots below to get a better idea of what to expect when the Cruze goes on sale here in a couple years.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-chevy-cruze-lt-live/low/">Paris 2008: Chevy Cruze LT LIVE</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-chevy-cruze-lt-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/00_cruzeparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-chevy-cruze-lt-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/01_cruzeparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-chevy-cruze-lt-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/02_cruzeparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-chevy-cruze-lt-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/03_cruzeparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-chevy-cruze-lt-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/04_cruzeparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/">2011 Chevy Cruze</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/002_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/03/paris-2008-chevrolet-cruze-meets-an-eager-europe/">Paris 2008: Chevrolet Cruze meets an eager Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 03 Oct 2008 16:56:00 EST. <br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/1067717/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz005_opt.jpg" alt="" /></a>We've gotten a pretty good look at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/15/paris-preview-2010-chevrolet-cruze/">2010 Chevy Cruze</a> already, but the model that had been making rounds in the U.S. was nothing more than a styling buck with no guts inside. Today, just a few hours ahead of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/paris-motor-show/">Paris Motor Show</a>, General Motors has revealed the rest of the Cruze, including its interior, and we like what we see. The exterior looks crisp and shows off Chevy's latest design language, especially with the Malibu-esque face and sharp headlights. Everyone agrees that it's a step-up styling-wise from its Cobalt forebear. It's the interior that really shines, though. What appears to be a tweed-like fabric covers sweeping colored panels from the dash to the doors. Two large gauges, two smaller ones and a digital readout places the most important information front-and-center while a cluster of buttons sits just below a centrally-located LCD screen. Meanwhile, the center stack appears to be a fresh design, though any judgment on its ergonomics will have to wait.<br /><br />We won't be getting the Cruze in the States until April 2010 as a 2011 model. When that finally happens, the Cruze will be powered by a 140-horsepower 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which will somehow manage to achieve above 40 mpg on the highway. If you want it now, perhaps you should stop <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/16/gm-ramps-up-cobalt-production-to-meet-demand/">buying so many Cobalts</a>. In Europe, sales will begin in March of 2009 with a range of gas and diesel powerplants.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/">2011 Chevy Cruze</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/002_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: GM]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/01/paris-2008-chevy-cruze-unveiled-on-eve-of-show-interior-reveal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Paris 2008: Chevy Cruze unveiled on eve of show, interior revealed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/01/paris-2008-chevy-cruze-unveiled-on-eve-of-show-interior-reveal/">Paris 2008: Chevy Cruze unveiled on eve of show, interior revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Oct 2008 14:33:00 EST. <br />General Motors cites the success of the current Chevy Cobalt as the reason for delaying the launch of the Cobalt's replacement, the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/15/paris-preview-2010-chevrolet-cruze/">Cruze</a>, in the States. In order to meet the market's soaring demand for small cars in general, and the Cobalt in particular, earlier this year GM added a third shift to the Lordstown Plant where the Cobalt is built. For '09, the General plans to build an extra 70,000 Cobalts, expecting fuel prices to remain high and demand for its compact sedan and coupe to follow suit. Unfortunately for the struggling automaker, those extra cars may not necessarily add up to extra profits, with the Cobalt priced below its main competitors from Japan. For this reason, GM will be adding a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/16/chevy-cruze-could-be-priced-higher-than-rivals/">few bucks to the bottom line of the Cruze</a>, in a pricing move similar to the recently released Malibu. Hopefully, the same tactic GM employed with its mid-sizer will translate to the Cruze and that extra cash will result in a better car than its predecessor.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/djf500/200809151723DOWJONESDJONLINE000749_FORTUNE5.htm">CNN</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/16/gm-ramps-up-cobalt-production-to-meet-demand/">GM ramps up Cobalt production to meet demand</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 16 Sep 2008 19:33:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery of the Chevy Cruze</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Remember when we told you that GM plans to make more money off of its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/21/gms-plan-small-cars-making-a-big-profit/">small cars</a> by upping its prices? Well, as far as the Cruze is concerned, not only do they plan to charging substantially more than the outgoing Cobalt, they might demand more cash than a comparably equipped Corolla, Civic, or Focus. According to GM, that's because it needs to make more per car than Honda or Toyota.<br /><br />With the average Civic rolling away for $19,184, GM doesn't have a lot of room to play before hitting the $20,000 ceiling. And if GM was to get an average price of $19,500 for the Cruze, that would be a $3,000 premium over the current (average) price for the Cobalt. That still gives no indication of how much money GM would actually be making on the car, though.<br /><br />Design honcho Ed Welburn feels the car's styling and interior will justify the extra dosh, and said he believes "we have some very unique content and materials that are in the vehicle." Conviction is a good start, and if they can back it up the verdict might go their way. For that, we have to wait for the jury of consumers to decide.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/">2010 Chevy Cruze - live shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-24_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/">2011 Chevy Cruze</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/002_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/09/15/business/NA-US-GM-New-Models.php">IHT</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/16/chevy-cruze-could-be-priced-higher-than-rivals/">Chevy Cruze could be priced higher than rivals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 16 Sep 2008 17:59:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for new high-res live shots of the 2010 Chevy Cruze</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />This afternoon GM design VP Ed Welburn and Chevy general manager Ed Peper gave us a preview of the new 2010 Chevy Cruze compact sedan. As is all too often the case with cool new small cars, the U.S. market is last in line as the Cruze will be going on sale in Europe next March as a 2010 model with a choice of 1.6L and 1.8L gas engines or a new 2.0L diesel that puts out 150 hp. As many have surmised from previous images of the Cruze, it is actually a bit bigger than the current Cobalt it will eventually replace. According to Peper, it actually slots in between the Cobalt and the Malibu, although it will get better fuel economy than both. <br /><br />GM chose to debut the Cruze in Europe because it's the brands fastest growing market with a 23-percent growth in sales through the first half of 2008. Asked why the U.S. isn't getting it sooner, Peper blamed the current sales success of the Cobalt and other upcoming launches such as the Camaro. Peper also indicated that the Cruze will get an impressive 40 mpg on the highway at launch. When the Cruze goes into production <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/21/gm-announces-350-million-for-lordstown-plant-to-bulid-chevy-cru/">at GM's Lordstown, OH plant</a> in April 2010 as a 2011 model, it will be powered by the new 1.4L direct-injected turbocharged four-cylinder that has been announced previously. We don't have any pics of the interior yet because the car on display here is just the same styling buck with no guts that appeared in Lordstown a couple of weeks ago. We'll be sure to get those interior shots and more when the car makes it official world debut at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Paris-Motor-Show/">Paris Motor Show</a> next month.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/">2010 Chevy Cruze - live shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-24_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-cruze-live-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/cruze-reveal-1280-17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/">2011 Chevy Cruze</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/002_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: General Motors]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/15/paris-preview-2010-chevrolet-cruze/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Paris Preview: 2010 Chevy Cruze in person</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/15/paris-preview-2010-chevrolet-cruze/">Paris Preview: 2010 Chevy Cruze in person</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 15 Sep 2008 15:52:00 EST. That plant is getting a $350 million shot in the arm to gear up for the Cruze, which appeared on stage with Wagoner for the announcement. The car on hand was only a foam model, but it looks ready to drive away in (just don't lean on the doors), and these new images give us a few more views of the Cruze not afforded by the official images of a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/21/gm-releases-official-pics-of-2011-chevy-cruze/">red car</a> released by GM yesterday. Cruze news will probably be hard to come by until October when the car makes its official world debut at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Paris-Motor-Show/">Paris Motor Show</a>, so until then we're left wondering how well it will match up against the likes of the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, next-gen Focus and the rest of the compact sedan segment.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/">2011 Chevy Cruze</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/002_11chevycruze_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-cruze/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/x11ch_cz005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: GM, Photos by Bill Pugliano/Getty and David A.
