As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.

Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 21 Feb 2013 13:59:00 EST.
The original Dodge Charger Daytona was a bullet-nosed, winged menace on racetracks and is an amazingly collectible classic car today, and Dodge is hoping to bring back some of that nostalgia with the 2013 Dodge Charger Daytona. Limited to just 2,500 units, this new Daytona adds a little more styling and exclusivity than the similarly named package brought to the sedan from the 2006 through 2009 model years. We saw our first glimpse of this new package earlier in the week, but now we get to see the car in all of its blue glory at the LA Auto Show.

Starting at $32,990 for the Charger R/T and $36,495 for the R/T Road & Track (yes, that name is more than a little redundant) models, the 2013 Charger Daytona will be instantly recognizable with its exclusive 20-inch wheels, black hood and roof graphics, a satin black grille and decklid spoiler. The Daytona will only be offered in four colors - Daytona Blue, Bright White, Billet Silver and Pitch Black - but all will get a Daytona Blue engine cover.

Inside, the Daytona gets unique embroidering, stitching and piping with the cabin wrapped in Nappa leather on the R/T Road & Track and cloth on the R/T. Dark brushed aluminum trim, bright Mopar pedals, a 552-watt Beats Audio System and an individually numbered dash plaque finishes off the interior. On the performance front, the car adds a high-speed engine controller, 3.06 rear axle ratio, paddle shifters and performance steering and suspension setups.

A Daytona package hasn't been available for the Dodge Charger since 2009, but for 2013, its coming back. For an extra $2,995 on top of the price of a 2013 Charger R/T or another $2,500 added to the price of a 2013 Charger R/T Road & Track, customers will get a limited-edition trim level set off with Satin Black hood stripes, black roof wrap and an R/T spoiler all riding atop 20-inch polished aluminum wheels.

There will only be 2,500 Daytona packages on offer, all naturally featuring Chrysler's Hemi V8 with 370-horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque under a Daytona Blue engine cover. Only four exterior colors will be offered - Daytona Blue, Bright White, Billet Silver and Pitch Black - additional exterior notes being the Satin Black crosshair grille with vintage-look R/T badging, and the name "Daytona" applied to the rear quarter panels.

The cabin gets Daytona tweaks like Daytona Blue embroidery, stitching and piping on the seats, dark brushed aluminum trim, a Mopar bright pedal kit and a 552-watt, 10-speaker Beats Audio System. A dashboard plaque will let everyone know where you fell in the special line.

Prices work out to $32,990 for the R/T and $36,495 for the R/T Road & Track Daytona models. You can find out more in the press release below, and get a glimpse of your blue heaven in the high-res gallery above. We'll have pics of the real thing from the floor of the LA Auto Show shortly.
Continue reading 2013 Dodge Charger Daytona marks the return of the blue-blood

2013 Dodge Charger Daytona marks the return of the blue-blood originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 26 Nov 2012 00:01:00 EST. A team of thieves in Shippensburg, PA, however, has clearly outgrown that JV stuff and moved up to the Varsity level by applying the tried-and-true smash-and-grab techniques to Naugle Motors, a local Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealer.

That's where they apparently broke into an '08 Jeep Patriot, got it started, and then drove it through the showroom door to get what they really wanted: the Sublime Green Charger Daytona sitting on the floor. (They couldn't have smashed a Compass instead? What gives?) Once in the Dodge, the perpetrators got the hell outta Dodge, so to speak. (BaDumBum -Ed.) Authorities have not recovered the car, but if it isn't in pieces or on some container ship headed overseas, we have a hunch that it'll get found.

After all, a Daytona with the Sublime finish is basically visible from outer space. If it's local, someone's gonna see it.

[Source: The Sentinel]
Sublime Smash 'n Grab originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 24 May 2007 09:54:00 EST. In the late sixties Chrysler decided to follow the rules that limited body modifications and created a pair of machines that would get an unfair advantage on the high banks. Thus the Plymouth Superbird and Dodge Daytona Charger were born. The cars came from the factory with a long pointed nose and high mounted rear wing, so that they could run with the same configuration in NASCAR.

The aerodynamic modifications combined with the classic Chrysler Hemi made them almost unbeatable on the track. One example of each of these ultra-rare cars were paired up and offered at this year's Barrett-Jackson auction. The bronze colored 1969 Charger, is one of 22 built and the blue 1970 Superbird is one of 58. Both cars are equipped with 426 cu.in. Hemi V-8s and 4 speed gearboxes. The Dodge is recently restored and the Plymouth is still original. And as a sidenote, only 4 original Superbirds remain. Click the links to read the full history of each of these amazing cars. The pair sold for $750,000.

[Source: Frank Filipponio]

Gallery: 2007 Barrett-Jackson, Scottsdale: Hemi Superbird and Daytona

2007 Barrett-Jackson, Scottsdale: Hemi Superbird and Daytona Sold at $750,000 originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 22 Jan 2007 20:32:00 EST. Why not send your kid and 10 of his friends to the blowout party of the year in a 30-foot long, Banana Yellow Dodge Charger R/T Daytona limo. As luck would have it, one is up for sale on eBay right now, and would you believe there's no takers at the Buy It Now price of $59,900? The Charger's 5.7L HEMI V8 is likely a little strained under the extra weight, but we're sure this stretch can still get up and go when asked. It will seat 11 people, and those being chauffeured are treated to the standard limo accouterments of a wet bar, multiple TVs, and an interior lighting system that uses fiber optics, lasers and a strobe light (what, no smoke machine?). If you're interested in violating all socially acceptable defenitions of good taste, check out eBay item #290061207893 before December 18th when the auction ends.

Follow the jump for more pictures inside and out of the Dodge Charger R/T Daytona limo.

[Source: eBay via Carscoop via Motorpasion]
Continue reading eBay Find of the Day: 30-ft long Dodge Charger R/T Daytona Limo

eBay Find of the Day: 30-ft long Dodge Charger R/T Daytona Limo originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 14 Dec 2006 16:02:00 EST.
