<br /> Sorry <em>Transformers</em> fans, but your precious <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Bumblebee/">Bumblebee</a> just got his butt whooped. Color us not surprised. Because for anyone that's ever driven the Detroit Three's <em>nouveau </em>muscle cars (and seriously evaluated them), the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010MustangGT/">2010 Mustang GT</a> is clearly Best of Show material. It's just too refined, too capable and let's be honest, too good. Especially when compared to the cetacean Dodge Challenger R/T. How obvious? Even <em>Consumer Reports</em> says so. <br /> <br /> True, it used to be getting your sports car endorsed by <em>Consumer Reports</em> was kinda like Tipper Gore and Joe Lieberman banging their heads and flashing approving devil signs at your band. But somewhere about ten years back, the ad-free, subscriber-funded mag began testing cars that enthusiasts might actually want to buy. And then they began factoring in metrics like acceleration, handling and braking, while still lowering eyelids with stats on mileage and reliability (we kid, we kid).<br /> <br /> So yeah - straight up, the 315 horsepower Ford Mustang GT got a rating of "Very Good" and 78 points, whereas the 426 hp Chevrolet Camaro SS got "Very Good" but only 71 points, whereas the 370 hp Challenger R/T received a rating of merely "Good" and just 53 points. <br /><br />But wait, there's more! <em>CR</em> also tested the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8, Subaru WRX and Nissan 370Z. How did the evolved-but-not-revolved 'Stang stack up? Funny you should ask.<em> Consumer Reports</em>' press release doesn't say. Specifically, it doesn't give numeric scores for the sporty Asian cars. However, all three non-domestics got the (apparently) coveted "Very Good" rating, meaning they all finished ahead of the Challenger. And yes, the big Dodge had the six-speed manual. Part of the Challenger's problem is no doubt this sentence: "Braking is mediocre and it has a big car feel rather than a sports car." But the real question is, which car won the competition outright? All we know is that the new issue comes out today. PR posted after the jump.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-ford-mustang-gt/low/">Review: 2010 Ford Mustang GT</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-ford-mustang-gt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010mustanggtabg_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-ford-mustang-gt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010mustanggtabg_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-ford-mustang-gt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010mustanggtabg_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-ford-mustang-gt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010mustanggtabg_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-ford-mustang-gt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010mustanggtabg_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/index.htm">Consumer Reports</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/01/chevy-camaro-and-dodge-challenger-better-than-fords-mustang-i/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger better than Ford's Mustang? <i> Consumer Reports</i> says 'neigh'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/01/chevy-camaro-and-dodge-challenger-better-than-fords-mustang-i/">Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger better than Ford's Mustang? <i> Consumer Reports</i> says 'neigh'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 12:57:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery of the Dodge Challenger R/T Classic</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />For the most part, the lineup at the Chrysler stand here in Detroit is like an advertisement for Zoloft. There <em>are</em> a few exceptions, however. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/13/detroit-2009-dodge-ram-r-t-accessorized/">blue Ram R/T</a> is one, and here's another: the Dodge Challenger R/T Classic. As appearance packages go, this one's a winner. 20-inch Torq-Thrust replicas fill the wheel wells, old-school R/T stripes run down the flanks, and best of all, the classic script Challenger badge adorns each fender. Hey Chrysler -- they should <em>all </em>get this treatment. As you can see, the one parked on the Detroit floor is painted HEMI Orange. We'd order the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-brochure/890671/">B5 Blue</a>. Ultimately, it's cool either way. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-classic/low/">Detroit 2009: Dodge Challenger R/T Classic</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-classic/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/chal_classic_det1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-classic/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/chal_classic_det3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-classic/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/chal_classic_det4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-classic/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/chal_classic_det8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-classic/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/chal_classic_det5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Alex N&uacute;&ntilde;ez / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/13/detroit-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-classic/">Detroit 2009: Dodge Challenger R/T Classic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 17:01:00 EST. <br />For all the problems it faces, Chrysler has to be happy with this: the Dodge Challenger rollout has gone about as well as anyone could have hoped. Everyone wanted this car to happen from the moment it <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/01/08/detroit-auto-show-dodge-challenger-concept-debut/">appeared as a concept</a> back in 2006. Back then, the S197 Mustang was still new and demonstrating that retro done right can be a very good thing. Flash forward to today and following a brief, SRT8-only 2008 model year run, the Dodge Challenger is now available in three distinct trim levels. We've already reviewed the stylish and value-priced, six-cylinder <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/12/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-se/">SE model</a>, and we'll soon give you our take on the top-tier knuckle-dragger, the SRT8. That leaves the mainstream muscle - the R/T. We recently welcomed a silver example equipped with the hotly-anticipated six-speed manual gearbox into the Autoblog Garage. But is it something you'll want to welcome into <em>your</em> garage?<strong><br /><br /><br /></strong><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/low/">Review: 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/18_09challengerrt_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/19_09challengerrt_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/00_09challengerrt_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/01_09challengerrt_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/02_09challengerrt_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><strong><br /><em><small>Photos Copyright (C)2008 Alex N&uacute;&ntilde;ez / Weblogs, Inc.</small></em> </strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/02/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Review: 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/02/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/">Review: 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 02 Dec 2008 11:58:00 EST. Apparently this executive is not very much in the loop, as Dodge officially announced today that the base model Challenger SE would start at just $21,995, which includes $675 for destination charges. Just to refresh your noodle, the Challenger SE is the base model and comes with a 3.5L V6 producing 250 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. And for comparison's sake, a 2008 Ford Mustang V6 starts at $19,650, though that's excluding destination charges. The next best Challenger is the R/T model, which Dodge says can be had with a 370-hp 5.7L HEMI V8 starting at $29,995. Finally, the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 that's already been on sale for a year will get a hefty $2,000 bump in its starting price from $37,995 to $39,995. The only new items on the SRT8 for 2009 are a standard limited-slip differential, High Performance Red and B5 Blue paint colors with black hood stripes, and a "pistol-grip" shifter with the Track Pak. Otherwise, the 425-hp muscle car remains largely the same. Does the $2,000 jump in price matter much, though, if you'll never be able to buy the car without a big dealer markup? Regardless, all three models will be available this fall and dealers are already taking orders. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-and-se/low/">2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and SE</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-and-se/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/00_challengerrt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-and-se/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01_challengerrt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-and-se/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/02_challengerrt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-and-se/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/03_challengerrt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-and-se/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/04_challengerrt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Chrysler]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/09/2009-dodge-challenger-will-start-at-21-995/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2009 Dodge Challenger will start at $21,995</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/09/2009-dodge-challenger-will-start-at-21-995/">2009 Dodge Challenger will start at $21,995</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 09 Jun 2008 10:31:00 EST.
