Assuming a hybrid were to pass the inspection, it is then covered under a warranty that includes seven-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain coverage. Batteries are included, in this case under a pre-existing eight-year/100,000-mile factory hybrid battery warranty. If you should happen to break down, each certified Toyota comes with free roadside assistance for seven years. With over a million hybrids sold to date, Toyota has been seeing more and more come in as trade-ins, so it's only natural that the automaker would introduce a program to resell them and boost profit margins. GM realizes this and has responded by <strike>ambushing customers</strike> increasing the warranty coverage on the CPO models for all of its brands, minus Cadillac which has its own program. The new warranty stands at 12-months or 12,000 miles and begins when the CPO purchase is made -- an increase of up to nine-months over the previous guarantee. Being a "bumper-to-bumper" warranty, everything excluding wear items like tires and brakes are covered for manufacturing defects. The powertrain warranty remains: five years or 100,000 miles from when it was sold as new.

GM hopes that this increased coverage has a corresponding effect on its CPO sales. What's more, the automaker also believes that this action will have a desirable effect on its vehicle's residual values.

[Source: Automotive News - sub. req'd]
Continue reading GM adds 12-month/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty on certified used vehicles

GM adds 12-month/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty on certified used vehicles originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 19:31:00 EST. GM doesn't say exactly how many vehicles it will add to eBay Motors' listings, but there are currently over 3,900 dealerships selling certified used vehicles for the General. For its part, eBay Motors will be charging GM dealers zilch to list their certified used vehicles for sale on its site, which is a much better deal than you get when trying to unload that '99 Malibu.

[Source: GM, Photo by Rick Gershon/Getty ]
Continue reading GM to list all certified used vehicles on eBay Motors

GM to list all certified used vehicles on eBay Motors originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 08 Feb 2008 12:03:00 EST. Today the General announced that each of those vehicles will now be sold with the same 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty that's included with the purchase of a brand new 2007 model. The warranty for these vehicles that range in model year from 2002 to 2006 begins with their original in-service date and is fully transferable, as well. Just like the powertrain warranty on the new models, this one covers components in the engine, transmission, transfer case where applicable and the final drive assemblies. Today's announcement only covers vehicles from Buick, Chevy, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac, however. The rest of GM's brands have their own certified used vehicle programs, though Saturn is expected to announce the same warranty for its used vehicles later this year. Cadillac, Saab and HUMMER certified used vehicles are already offered with a 6-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty.

[Source: GM]
Continue reading GM Certified Used Vehicles get same powertrain warranty as new models

GM Certified Used Vehicles get same powertrain warranty as new models originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 16:38:00 EST. In all, there's about 60,000 GM certified used vehicles in the U.S. To be one, a GM vehicle has to be 6 model years old or newer, have less than 60,000 miles and go through a reconditioning process. Cadillac, HUMMER and Saab have their own programs for certified used vehicles, so this will only affect Chevy, Buick, Oldsmobile, GMC and Pontiacs.

Cars.com hosts about 2 million vehicles for sale at any one time from both private parties and dealers, so the site will be making separate pages for dealers who subscribe to Cars.com that set their inventory apart from the crowd, while those dealers that don't subscribe to the site will still get a GM Certified Logo on their listings. This isn't the first time Cars.com has buddied up with an OEM to sell certified vehicles, as it has similar partnerships with Toyota, Honda and Chrysler, among others.

[Source: Automotive News]
GM's entire certified used vehicle inventory to be sold on Cars.com originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 31 Jan 2007 18:02:00 EST.
