Captain Slow on Top Gear, has a BBC show called James May's Toy Stories. After building an award-winning Plasticine garden and the world's largest model airplane, the next thing on May's list is a house built of Legos. A two-storey house. And he intends to live in it for a weekend.

The house will be built in Dorking, England and everything that can be made out of Legos will be made out of Lego. Said May, "I've got a man working on a flushing Lego lavatory. We think it's possible." Seeing that Legoland doesn't even have a house made of Lego - and certainly not Lego toilets - this should indeed be a "pioneering Lego cause." So far, three million Lego bricks have been contributed to the build, but May is looking for more in case you have any lying around.

[Source: BBC]
REPORT: James May to build life-sized Lego house. So, like any web entrepreneur the Logansport, Indiana native created a site to serve that outpouring.

At Ultimate MJ Tribute, fans of the King of Pop can remember him by having their names written on a Smart Fortwo. They will also get their names on the website itself, and supposedly get a personalized flower delivered to Jackson's memorial - in that very same Smart - every year. And all for the low, low price of $10.

Of course, there are a lot of details left out: there is no information on the site about how this is all supposed to work, and site only has two real links on it, one of them to Paypal, one of them to a contact form. The other links are for Digg, Tweet, and sharing. It isn't even clear if Mr. Callisto owns or has a Smart. And based on the worldwide reaction to MJ's death, to pick one of the smallest cars in the world as a billboard tribute strikes us as a bit odd. But after all, an idea might be priceless, but a domain name is only a few dollars...

[Source: Ultimate MJ Tribute via Inside Line]
Smart, or Stupid?
Michael Jackson's memorial service is being held today in Los Angeles (apparently sponsored by local Land Rover dealers). For a reminder of who the man was pre-Thriller and where all of this got started, few things could be better than some Suzuki Love scooter commercials that MJ did in way back in 1982.

In trademark Japanese commercial fashion, the spots don't all make linear sense, but they are fun to watch and there's even a making-of film. Better yet, the advertisements end with a line Jackson would still approve of: "Love is my message." Follow the jump to watch the videos.

[Sources: Japanese Nostalgic Car; TMZ]
Continue reading VIDEO: Obligatory Michael Jackson Post - Rare Suzuki Love commercials

VIDEO: Obligatory Michael Jackson Post - Rare Suzuki Love commercials originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 15:00:00 EST. You might wonder, however, why three different factions are working on another movie about John Z. DeLorean. Brett Ratner is collaborating with producer Robert Evans on one pic, and Face/Off producer David Permut has another version in the works. Now Time, Inc Studios becomes the third horse in the race, working from material published in Time and Fortune magazines and an unpublished memoir penned by DeLorean himself.

While Ratner's project has name recognition associated with it, Time appears to have the in-house material and the blessing of John's son Zachary, who is executor to the estate. Still, with three studios on the case, the DeLorean film's production isn't assured, even though one producer said, "It's almost like an updated Citizen Kane story of the great American entrepreneurial hero, and how it all went wrong." If the DeLorean biopic ever does get made, it'll probably be like Tucker, but with more women, more cocaine, and more stainless steel. Which isn't a bad thing. Thanks for the tip, Neil!

[Source: The Independent]
Studios fighting for DeLorean biopic originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 12:16:00 EST.
Malcolm Bricklin's 1970 Meyers Manx SR - Click above for high-res gallery

The Meyers Manx SR (for "Street Roadster") was the roadgoing version of Meyers' seminal, frog-eyed dune buggy. There were ten built at Meyers' factory in Fountain Valley, and the 1970-vintage example you see above was built for that other kit car icon, Malcolm Bricklin.

For sale right now on eBay, the Manx SR was described in an issue of Car & Driver :

No Practical man would have built such a device here in the cool, smooth seventies; no practical man would want to drive one everyday. But the fun-lovers, the zestful types with a touch of tiger-hunter in their souls, guys who might play the guitar and drink skull-popper and give more than passing attention to the wahine, no they're going to take it to their rascally hearts.

That is among the best descriptions for a car, for the entire decade -- and that decade's porn stars -- all at once. The 1.6-liter four-speeder is said to run perfectly, and bidding is up to $10,000 at the time of writing. We aren't sure, though, if the final price includes the Steppenwolf 8-track. Check it all out in the gallery of high-res photos below.

Gallery: Malcolm Bricklin's Meyers Manx SR

[Source: eBay]
eBay Find of the Day: Malcolm Bricklin's very own 1970 Meyers Manx SR originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 18:59:00 EST.
The Volo Classic Car Museum in Illinois has this pink treat from the movie Uncle Buck for sale. The Funny Bunny is a Volkswagen Bug that was turned into a mouse that, according to the Volo, has been turned into a bunny. Even though it's got a mouse nose, mouse whiskers, mouse eyes, and mouse ears, it has "a buck tooth bumper" and a white, poofy bunny tail -- but it still comes with the pink mouse tail in case you're really set on a rodent.

The car has been restored and is in great running condition, so sayeth the museum's eBay listing. And you don't have to worry about spending money on it, because "people will pay you to attend their events." If you're looking for attention or an "in" for your local Easter parade, look no further.

Gallery: Bunnymobile

[Source: eBay]
eBay Find of the Day is just in time for Easter originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 27 Mar 2009 14:59:00 EST. Your English-manor-garden variety Aston Martin DBS has 510 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The 6.0-liter V12 that powers it will pull the coupe to 60 in 4.3 seconds. It costs $305,000, and it is a special car. But we drove one that was even more special. We drove one of the Aston Martins that was in Quantum of Solace, driven by the man who plays The Man. We didn't even have to break into some supermax-like vault-within-a-vault to get to it. Aston Martin delivered it to us for a day of spy play, yet that didn't make the experience any less thrilling. Follow the jump for the story.
According to the financial realities of a disintegrating global economy.

If reports are correct, Clarkson stands to lose up to £500,000 (about $720,000 USD) because of cost cutting by the BBC. While The Beeb is honoring all current contracts, the UK's public broadcaster - and the world's largest - is looking to save £20 million ($29M) by putting salaries on a diet. Anyone making more than £100,000 per year ($144k) will get a 25% pay cut when their contract is renewed. Bobby McMullin, the ringleader, allegedly had an unflattering video of Unser that he promised to release to the public if Little Al didn't pay him. The racer signed a letter agreeing to pay an unspecified amount for the tape, and indeed some payments were made, but authorities don't know how much money changed hands.

Authorities also don't know - or haven't said - what is on the tape. The former racer said he made the payments because of a "morals clause" in one of his endorsement contracts that could have been at odds with whatever was allegedly on the tape. The attempted extortion happened during the 2004 season while he was with Patrick Racing, his last season behind the wheel.

Although it's unclear why Unser is connected with the defendant, Abuquerque prosecutor Mark Drebing has gone on record that it appears Little Al hasn't done anything wrong, and that Unser is listed as a victim in the indictment.

[Source: Indianapolis Star]
Al Unser Jr., extortion victim? originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 26 Dec 2008 11:27:00 EST. Catch a Eurosport in your peripheral vision quickly, and it'd be easy to mistake it for a Volvo 7-series, or even an Audi 5000 (G). What we have here is a time capsule in two ways. First, the Celebrity was GM's redemption from the X-Body's failure to deliver on its potential. The Celebrity is the vehicle where the General got its act together, fully years before the Taurus, too. Secondly, this particular Celebrity was swept up in the Pro Street craze that customizers glommed on to in the days when a guy could pull off a hot pink tank top. It's a period piece, built when the Simpsons were still on Tracey Ullman.

The excesses of the 1980s are perfectly embodied in the decadent Pro Street movement; the same ethos drove the popularity of hair metal. There was an edge to it, an underlying basis in the blues. Pro Street's blues were the grit and rocket fuel fumes of serious drag racing. Many cars we'd kill for today (unrusted late '60s MoPars, anyone?) suffered the fate of being cut up and tubbed, then fitted with teeny tiny front tires on horridly ubiquitous Centerline phone-dial rims. The end result is a car that handles as well as a T. Rex does preacher curls with its wimpy little arms. Handling's not the point, insane craftsmanship and over the top everything are. This car, definitely has that with its pro build worthy of magazine coverage, triple-blown big block, tube frame, massive Mickey Thompsons, and the requesite drag chute and smart aleck license plate. Rather than cry over another increasingly rare car being hacked up by a cokehead fabricator, nobody will care that a Celebrity went under the knife. In fact, they'll stop dead in their tracks and say "cool." Get your bids in now, or just end everyone's suspense and fork over the 50G's for the thing. You'll be a hit at the local choke and puke cruise night. Thanks for the tip, SleighBoy!

Gallery: Pro Street Chevy Celebrity

[Source: eBay]

eBay Find of the Day: 1983 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport Dragster originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 05 Jun 2008 13:27:00 EST. Sometimes, though, they play out over years and years, as is the case with Mike Tyson -- whose fall from grace probably finished a few years ago, but the garage sales continue. Up next: his Bentley Continental SC, or Sedanca Coupe.

Just one of 73 examples of the SC, this 1999 model is being sold in the UK but comes in left-hand-drive. As one would expect of a Bad Boy Bentley, the 3-ton car gets to sixty in six, and the removable glass roof will let the wind in your hair tell the story. When it was brand new the car was worth $500,000, which it took Tyson in his prime all of about five seconds in the ring to earn. So the car isn't worth exactly what it would be when Tyson was in his prime, but he's still Tyson, and it's still a Bentley, and they can both be yours for the low low price of 135,000 pounds.

[Source: Auto Trader via Luxist]

Ear-chewing boxer's Bentley for sale in Britain originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 13 Mar 2008 07:56:00 EST.
NOTE: DO NOT SENT REQUESTS TO GET ON OVERHAULIN' TO AUTOBLOG! We don't have anything to do with the show, so while we'd like to help you get your cars fixed up, we can't...
Overhaulin', the car customization show that's less pimp and more ride, is looking for new cars to overhaul. If you know someone with a good clunker and a great story, you can help them get to the bright lights in the big smoke. This year, the show will accept applications from folks outside of Southern California, which means that a GTO rusting in a Michigan shed even has a chance at glory. The catch: you can't nominate yourself. Time to start calling in favors, eh?

Having won the Indy 500 twice, what other challenge was left? He'll be paired with Julianne Hough, the professional dancer who won the last season with Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno.

Castroneves' competition will include "Scary Spice" Mel B., Dallas Maverick's owner Mark Cuban, "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather, Marie Osmond, Wayne Newton, and, um, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Jane Seymour.

This vehicle represents two pieces of history: it's an Escort Cosworth, which might as well have come out of a Harry Potter novel it was so wild; and this particular Cossie was owned by none other than Jeremy Clarkson. Yes, that Jeremy Clarkson. It was, in fact, one of his favorite cars. That's quite a complement coming from a man as difficult to please as Jezza. It isn't clear how long ago he owned it -- the article simply says "once owned by" -- but it is clear that he named it "Gary."

Besides the name, the only other aspect of the car that gives us pause is the color: Mallard metallic green. Only the British could come up with that. The verde monster has a 2.0-liter engine which someone, perhaps Clarkson, upgraded with a larger turbo, uprated fuel pump and modified head gasket. It should get more than the standard 227 bhp and get to sixty even faster than the "hair-raising 5.7 seconds." All this, and that can't-be-missed two story tail can be yours for just £16,989, and a huge insurance bill.

Forget about brokers -- when celebs need to unload cars, they head straight for My eBay. This particular Red Sox Red SL65 happens to be the property of Mr. Walk-Off Home Run David Ortiz, alias Big Papi, from the Boston Red Sox. He bought it for himself when the BoSox won the 2004 World Series (after an 86-year drought, in case you forgot), then dropped another thirty-five large making it custom. There are black D's in the 20" Lorinser center caps. There are two subs behind the front seats, and between the speakers is a baseball diamond with D.O.'s initials in relief. There's a bodykit that we'll let you comment on in private. And the interior is, of course, red and black.

Visit here for more.

Yes, a Chevy Celebrity is today's eBay Find of the Day. You have to admit, though -- this is pretty cool. While it's listed as an '88 Eurosport VR sedan, it's technically an '87 clone. The seller owned a rare but (completely) worn-out 1987 VR, which he decided to bring back to life. Enter a low-mileage '88 Celebrity Eurosport, which then became the recipient of every single usable VR part from the '87 donor car. The conversion is remarkable, with nary a stone left unturned. The rebuild story is completely documented in words and photos at CarDomain, and you can't help but come away impressed after seeing the work that went into this particular labor of love. The rebuilt car is probably put together better than these things were when new.

And now, in its gleaming black like-new condition, the car is up for sale on eBay. According to the owner, everything is in excellent working condition, and it averaged 34mpg on a recent vacation trip that put 500 miles on the odo. It looks great, has a readily-available history, and comes from a loving home. Add in the fact that the VRs are a true rarity, and you've got something legitimately interesting. The current bid's at $1,025 and the reserve hasn't been met. Assuming it isn't too high, someone's probably going to get a good deal on what might be the nicest Celebrity available anywhere at this moment. You can read more about the Eurosport VR model in general at EurosportVR.com, where this car is also featured (with plenty of photos) in the "JEFFS VR" section. If you want it, you can bid here.

[Source: eBay]

Gallery: 1988 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport VR ('87 Clone)

eBay Find of the Day: 1988 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport VR originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 20 Jun 2007 16:07:00 EST. Some young thrill-seekers managed to pump petrol through the powertrain half of an old Chevy Celebrity (at least we think it's a Celebrity), and even the dog was having fun. This video would make a great "Like A Rock" commercial.

There's more half-car fun where this one came from, too. Our friends over at Gadling found a bunch of videos, including one showing the procedure potential hoons have to endure to cut a vehicle in two. If you want to see the perfect mixture of funny and stupid, this video is for you. Take the jump to see this half-car doing figure-eights in a junkyard.

[Source; Gadling.com]
Continue reading VIDEO: Having fun with halved cars

VIDEO: Having fun with halved cars originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 22 May 2007 18:31:00 EST.
