According to <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/porsche">Porsche</a> enthusiast site <a href="http://www.planet-9.com/news-items/47086-cayman-club-sport-gets-green-light.html">Planet-9.com</a>, a hardcore version of the <a href="http://autoblog.com/porsche/cayman">Cayman</a>, dubbed CS or Clubsport, will be shown at this year's <a href="http://autoblog.com/category/la+auto+show">Los Angeles Auto Show</a> in December. This isn't the first time we've heard rumblings of a lighter, more powerful Cayman, but now that Porsche has successfully launched the <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/boxster+spyder">Boxster Spyder</a>, it's only fitting that the same sort of package be offered on its harder-core hardtop sister.<br />
<br />
Expect the Clubsport to produce around 333 horsepower from its 3.4-liter flat-six, an increase of 13 hp over the Cayman S. From there, lightweight 19-inch wheels will be standard, as will fabric door pulls, aluminum body components and a slightly revised front fascia that we've seen on the Boxster Spyder. Obviously, the real goal with a Clubsport model is lightness, and Planet-9 reports that the CS should be about 162 to 184 pounds lighter than the stock Cayman S.<br />
<br />
If the LA Auto Show reveal stands true, the Cayman CS should be hitting the road sometime in 2011 as a 2012 model, priced from around $66,300. Fingers crossed, everyone.<br />

<br />Brit buff mag Autocar says that Porsche is readying a lightweight version of the new Cayman, with plans to create  a single-make racing series for it as it already does with the 911. The Porsche Cayman Clubsport, as it'll reportedly be called, will weigh 220 pounds (100 kg) less than the standard-issue car. The weight savings will come via a stripped interior, lighter bodywork and wheels, and a "simplified" lighting system. Engine/transmission changes aren't expected to be part of the go-fast recipe, but the 314-horsepower six that's fitted to new Cayman S ought to deliver more than ample punch in the lighter Clubsport. Autocar says that a price premium of &pound;4K is expected over the regular Cayman S, and that the car should arrive in the UK market in October. Porsche finally gives the Cayman S an engine that makes it a legit alternative consideration to the 911, and now it seems ready to turn up the heat even further with a lightweight version. <p>Even as the industry swirls in turmoil, Porsche continues to offer hope to enthusiasts as they relentlessly increase performance without sacrificing efficiency. For 2009, Porsche has given the Boxster and Cayman a mild facelift, along with updating the interior and accessories. More importantly, and following in the footsteps of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/20/first-drive-2009-porsche-911-carrera-s-with-pdk/">911 Carrera PDK</a>, all 2009 Cayman and Boxster models are also offered with the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe transmission (aka PDK). Mated to the new transmission are two significantly reworked engines featuring direct injection. The result is more power, and improved fuel economy (we shouldn't fail to mention that the PDK accelerates faster than the six-speed manual). Porsche is offering two engines in 2009. The standard engine is a 2.9-liter flat-six rated at 255 hp. The "S" models are fitted with a more powerful 3.4-liter sending 310 hp to the gearbox. Like the Carrera, go-fast options on the sporty mid-engine two-seaters include active suspension (PASM) and ceramic brakes (PCCB). Look for both to arrive in showrooms in early 2009.</p>

As you can see in the galleries below, their noses and tails have been redone with a touch of Carrera GT, but each car now has a unique look. More importantly, the engines and transmissions have been updated as well, with the 2.9L and 3.4L powerplants getting Porsche's direct fuel injection for a 10-25 hp bump depending on the model. Along with the extra oomph, owners will get better mileage with fuel economy rising 11-16 percent. Part of that boosted mileage comes from the direct-injected engines, but the newly available Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, or PDK, double-clutch gearbox also deserves praise.<br /><br />The base Boxster and Cayman will now have 255 hp and 265 hp respectively, and the S versions will be rated at 310 for the Boxster S and 320 for the Cayman S. A Cayman S with PDK and Launch Control will also get to to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds. At the other end of the lineup, the Boxster with a six-speed manual will do it in 5.9 seconds. Gas mileage should run 25.5-26.4 mpg. The new models will hit the market in February 2009, with European prices ranging from Euro 38,600 for a base Boxster to 61,493 for a Cayman S. <p>To many, the Porsche Cayman is just a look-alike twin to the drop-top Porsche Boxster. While it shares a platform, underpinnings, and even engine choices with its two-seat sibling, the Cayman performs a decidedly different role and delivers even more gratifying performance. Porsche dropped off a top-of-the-line Cayman S in the Autoblog Garage. It offers a more powerful engine and larger brakes over the standard Cayman model. Porsche Design, as you know, is perhaps best known for its consumer products and their simple, upscale design aesthetic. With this 777-car limited edition, Porsche has worked to incorporate the Porsche Design look into a Cayman S. The gauge cluster takes on the appearance of a Porsche Design chrono, and the entire car is finished in black inside and out. The body is lowered 10mm and the exterior is further set off by the 19" 911 Turbo wheels and matte black accent striping on the doors, hood, roof, and rear deck. Black Alcantara and a special plaque on the instrument panel help trim out the passenger cabin. Each car also comes with a briefcase packed with Porsche Design goods including a chronograph, pen, sunglasses, knife, and keyring. Like the car, these personal items are finished in all black. Porsche Design Edition 1 sales kick off in Germany this November, with US sales following in January of 2008. The price? &euro;58,600 in Germany (&euro;69,942 with the 19% VAT factored in). The new wind-tunnel-tested set of upgrades reduces lift at speed thanks to the installation of new lip spoilers and a fixed rear wing. The changes up front are fine and all, but we think the rear wing takes away from the clean look the standard Cayman sports in back. Form follows function, however, and you can't order the pieces individually. A check for &euro;3,500 written to Porsche Exclusive in Germany will score you a set of the components pre-painted in factory colors to match your ride. The Boxster line, which now includes the fixed-roof <a href="http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/cayman/">Cayman</a> variant, is in the midst of its tenth year on the road. Production of the Boxster and Cayman exceeded 27,000 cars for FY 05/06, reflecting the model's growth since its introduction. At that time, Porsche expected 15,000 cars to be produced annually.<br /><br />Car number 200,000 was a Boxster S born at Valmet Automotive in Finland and destined for a US customer -- no surprise, as the North American continent accounts for 40% of global Boxster sales. With styling clearly inspired by the Spyders of yore, the Boxster has evolved from <a href="http://www.theautobahn.com/forum/showcar.php?do=overview&amp;car_model_id=65">concept car</a> to a brand name as recognizable and important as Porsche's other star, the 911. And like its big brother, it serves an aspirational vehicle to many. Over the last ten years, the phrase "first Porsche" and "Boxster" became synonymous for an undetermined number of enthusiasts. Porsche tuners appear to be having their fair share of fun with the Boxster-based coupe, and here, Strosek Design is no exception. <br /><br />There are varying degrees of tune, of course. The "lighter" tuning packages bumps the car's factory output of 295 horsepower up to a more robust 320. There is another option, however -- a 3.8L engine upgrade that gives the Cayman 380 horses and shaves .7 seconds off its 0-100km/h (62 mph) time, which becomes 4.7 sec. It also elevates its top speed from 171 to 179 mph.<br /><br />Bodywork changes are fairly abundant, yet are more subtle than what you see from some other tuners. Of, course, there are the basics: a new front spoiler, rocker panels, and a larger carbon fiber replacement for the Cayman's stock motorized rear spoiler. In addition to those, Strosek also fits a roof spoiler, rear diffuser, and new rearview mirrors. Finally, the factory openings ahead of the rear wheels are enclosed in new ram air boxes. <br /><br />Changes to the car's dynamics range from new springs to a full sport suspension dialed in on the N&uuml;rburgring <font size="-1">Nordschleife. The <span style="font-style: italic;">de rigeur</span> wheel and tire upgrades are available in 19" and 20" sizes, and the interior can be dressed up in almost any number of ways. </font><br /><br />The changes are both effective and generally tasteful, though we'd happily ditch the extra decals seen in a couple of the accompanying photos. Bored out to 99mm, it receives larger pistons, a new crankshaft, sports camshafts, and modified intake and exhaust systems. Accordingly, the engine management electronics are reprogrammed to handle all the changes. The net result: displacement grows to 3.8 liters, producing a healthy 385 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.<br /><br />Cars equipped with Porsche's PASM get TechArt's VarioPlus coil-over suspension, which allows ride-height lowering of up to 25mm and lets the driver select between Sport and Normal suspension modes via a cockpit-mounted control. Regardless of which one is selected, the dampers firm up automatically in sport driving conditions. Stylish five-spoke TechArt Formula lightweight wheels fitted with low-profile Continental ContiSportContact tires fill the wells nicely -- 19" in front and 20" in back.<br /><br />Everything gets wrapped up in a spectacular body kit. The new front assembly incorporates a deep apron featuring large intakes and integrated driving lights. A 911 GT3-style vent resides ahead of the trunklid. Sculpted side skirts carry the aggressive look to the rear, where you're immediately drawn to a new bumper with integrated carbon-fiber diffuser and a large carbon-fiber wing featuring an extendable gurney flap. <br /><br />TechArt will customize the interior according to the buyer's specifications. Pricing for the GTsport begins at &euro;100,000. <p>AutoCar has driven the new Audi TT, and proclaimed it to be a genuine Porsche Cayman S rival.</p>
<p>With a combination of sharpened responses, reduced weight, improved power and the availability of the improved S-Tronic dual-clutch gearbox, the magazine indicates that the four-ringed fashion statement has come good with enthusiasts.</p>
<p>Their conclusion?</p>
<p><em>There's no question about it: the new TT has taken a huge leap forward in the way it drives. Like the latest RS4, it proves that Ingolstadt's attitude to dynamics has changed out of all recognition compared with the uninspiring Audis of the past decade or more.</em> </p>
<p>We can't wait to get our mitts on one and see for ourselves.</p>
