Jerry Seinfeld may be planning to stage a return to television. The comic and car fanatic has been dropping hints about a new project tentatively called "Comics and Cars." Details are iffy at the moment, though the premise seems to circle around Seinfeld and his wealthy friends hanging out and talking about various vehicles.

Names like Alec Baldwin, Ricky Gervais and Larry David have all surfaced as potential candidates, though it's unclear if Seinfeld will rely on a regular panel of hosts or a slurry of rotating guests. Seinfeld has tried his hand at reality television in the past, though without much success.

The comic's last project, The Marriage Ref, bumbled along for two seasons on NBC before being canceled. There's no doubt that Seinfeld is both funny and a genuine car guy, but if shows like Top Gear USA and The Car Show have proven anything, it's that it takes more than those two elements to succeed.
Jerry Seinfeld returning to TV with Comics and Cars originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 11 May 2012 11:00:00 EST.
When a group of Salt Lake City auto enthusiasts decided they wanted to celebrate their love of European automobiles, Josh Clason brought along his Depth of Speed cameras to find out what it's like starting up a new car show from scratch. The resulting footage combines Clason's sharp visual style, great accompanying music, and good looking machines.

A Car Show Born tells the story of Jordan Melville and his friends bringing their car-show vision to life. We only wish we could have been there to dissuade them from calling it the Euro SL,UT Fest. A nice cross-section of Euro metal showed up to be captured by Clason's cameras, so click past the jump to watch the video.
Continue reading Depth of Speed shows us how a first-year car show comes together

Depth of Speed shows us how a first-year car show comes together originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 06 Aug 2011 14:03:00 EST.
By and large, automotive enthusiasts have successfully established their hobby as a wholesome, legitimate and family-oriented activity with few exceptions. Take the La Raza Lowrider Show in Kent, Washington where a fight between unnamed individuals degraded into a shooting that saw 10 people wounded in the incident.

Victims at the lowrider gathering were taken to several different hospitals for treatment, with some individuals managing to drive themselves to the emergency room. The police say that multiple suspects are currently being investigated, and that the violence is likely gang-related, with the shootings possibly stemming from an argument over a car's paint job.

According to news reports, there were between 200 and 300 people in attendance and over 50 cars on display at the event when the shooting took place. Over the course of its one-hour run time, Adam Carolla intends to talk about anything and everything automotive. He, along with Dan Neil, John Salley and Matt Farah, should give the U.S. Top Gear trio a run for their money.

SPEED has a few more shows up its sleeves as well. In August, two new shows are set to premiere; Dumbest Stuff on Wheels and My Ride Rules. The former sounds like an automotive-themed version of The Soup, while the latter pits four folks against each other to see who has the best ride. Contestants will actually get to hop in each other's car to see exactly what every person's vehicle is like.

This summer marks an aggressive expansion in programming for SPEED, and The Car Show might just be one of the driving forces in a bid for increased ratings.

SPEED is betting big on its newest TV series, called The Car Show. You're most likely already aware that the program will be hosted by Adam Carolla, Dan Neil, Matt Farah and John Salley. Now, SPEED has announced that some well-known auto scribes are joining the team to pitch in on writing duty.

Aaron Robinson and Ezra Dyer have become a part of The Car Show family. Robinson is the Technical Editor at Car and Driver, while Dyer has written for a handful of publications and has a running column at Automobile. The two will add their automotive knowledge and insight to a team that already knows a good deal about cars. Well, we're sure of everyone except Salley. The Spider owns four NBA championship rings, was a member of the Chicago Bulls record-breaking 72-win season, and wasn't terrible in the film Eddie. None of that translates to cars, but we're hoping the writers stay away from attempting to squeeze his six-foot, 11-inch frame into a Mazda Miata.

We've been hearing about Adam Carolla's The Car Show for months, and we can now confirm that the show has been picked up by SPEED Channel. The folks at SPEED dropped us a line to let us know that the show has been picked up for 13 episodes, with an option for 13 more. The hour-long show, which is scheduled for a July premiere, will be hosted by Adam Carolla, super auto journalist Dan Neil, former NBA player John Salley and Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire. SPEED hasn't even released a press release yet, but we'll get something official once the show's July production schedule is fleshed out.

We told you back in December that Carolla's show will feature news and car conversations plus the typical pre-recorded features. And don't get too attached to The Car Show as the show's name, as SPEED tells us that there is a good chance it will change. The show will be produced by Mandt Bros. Productions.

We're not sure how this show will turn out, but you can bet that we'll be watching when it hits the airwaves in July.

We can officially add the Salon Privé to the gearhead bucket list. The fifth annual automotive exhibit at London's tony Hurlingham Club has established itself as a mecca of high-end metal, old and new, and while this year's event lacks the major unveils and sneak peeks of 2009, it's still packing more luxury and performance metal per square acre than just about any other show on the planet. For 2010, manufacturers from around the globe have rolled out their best and brightest, both from their past and present portfolios. Highlights of this June 21-23 gathering and concours include the always wicked-looking Veritas III, as well as the Lexus LFA, Lotus Evora and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

The new tin is cool and all, but we're more interested in the smattering of old-school supercars in attendance. Want to get within sniffing distance of a McLaren F1? No problem. How about a Bugatti EB110 or a Ferrari F50? The Salon Privé will be happy to oblige. Check out our massive high-res gallery for a cross-section of the awesome in attendance.

Jay Leno visits Supercar Sunday at the Village Coffee Roaster

"Supercar Sunday is back and is here to stay!" That's the first sentence of a long-awaited announcement from Dustin Troyan, one of Southern California's most passionate, selfless and determined car guys. Dusty started the Supercar Sunday show in front of the Village Coffee Roaster coffee shop he managed in Woodland Hills several years ago. The idea was to invite car people out to the empty lot on Sunday mornings to meet up and hopefully buy some java.

The show was a smashing success, as hundreds of car guys and gals from all over the Southland gathered once a week to share their love of classic and exotic automobiles. The last Sunday of the month was the big show, attracting thousands of folks, including a few local celebrities. Businesses often brought in several extra staffers on Sundays to handle all of the extra customers.

As good as that sounds for gearheads and the businesses in that strip mall, the show got too big for the lot. Under intense pressure and threatened legal action from the landlord, the show was shut down late last year. With the huge car community in the Los Angeles area we knew it couldn't be the end of the road for the weekly Sunday meet, but all was a little too quiet on the Western front until today.

Seems Dustin has been working tirelessly these past several weeks to secure a new venue for the show. Troyan is the same guy behind the immensely successful Motor4Toys charity toy drive so we knew he would be able to make it happen - and make it happen in a way that would make us forget all about the unpleasantness of a few months ago.

Well, now we can look forward to a revived Supercar Sunday in an even better locale, with a bigger parking lot, full cooperation from the local merchants and landlord, and a Corner Bakery to handle breakfast needs. So if you're in the area, if you've attended or wanted to attend Supercar Sunday in the past or just want to get your weekly collectible car fix again, check out the new venue.

The show kicked off this morning at the Topanga Westfield Promenade. It's just off the 101, 8 miles West of the 405 at the corner of Topanga Canyon and Erwin. Hope to see you there in the weeks to come.
Supercar Sunday exotic car meet revived in SoCal originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 17 Jan 2010 19:01:00 EST.
This past Sunday was the 7th Annual Wings, Wheels and Rotors Expo at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, California, and after our experience there last year, we just had to go back for more. As you might guess from the title, this is more than just another hot rod gathering. Attendees get a chance to see mega horsepower air transport as well as earthbound movers and shakers. Even better, folks can actually get up close and personal with military vehicles, airplanes, jets and helicopters too. It's like an open house for the military, with a few hundred muscle cars thrown in for good measure. Hot rodders (and bikers) tend to be a fairly patriotic bunch, so the combination is a perfect match. Make the jump for our report from the ground.

The 2nd Annual Caruso Concours was held this past weekend at The Americana at Brand shopping center in Glendale, California. Put off a bit by threatening skies, we didn't make it out there ourselves, but luckily, Autoblog friend and shutterbug Greg Grudt was there to capture all of the excitement for us. This sophomore outing was once again put on by The Petersen Automotive Museum, and as was the case last year, a brace of incredible vehicles showed up to this fitting but unorthodox locale. Showgoers could peruse the cars for a bit and then pick up a Tiffany necklace on their way out.

This year's gathering focused on supercars - in particular, supercars capable of 200 mph. Not meant to be an exhaustive showing of double-century barrier breakers, it nonetheless attracted an impressive array of cars capable of close to, if not over, the magic mark. The fun part was just seeing them all together in one place. Judging by Grudt's images, it looks like the Americana also happens to be hosting a few of those Toyota solar sunflowers, which made for an interesting juxtaposition.

Supercars right off the showroom floor mingled with old-timers from as far back as the Eighties. For instance, the display included not just the Bugatti Veyron, but also its forebearer, the EB110. The list of cars in attendance read like a roster of World's Fastest Cars contenders. Ferrari was represented by an Enzo, F50, F40, 288GTO, 16M, and a SuperAmerica. The Lamborghini cluster was comprised of an LP670-SV, LP640-4, LP560-4 and even a Countach. There was also a Mercedes-McLaren SLR, CLK DTM, Ford GT, Dodge Viper, Cizeta V16t, Maserati MC12, Nissan GT-R, Audi R8, and even a Jaguar XJ220, which complemented the long flowing bodywork of the adjacent Maser quite nicely. They even dragged out the AREX Concept which was supposed to be good for 214 mph.

All-in, it appears to have been a great way to bring exotics to the people. Be sure to check out Greg's pics in the gallery, and check out a larger gallery by clicking here.

Click above for huge high-res gallery from Seal Beach

We love spring for a multitude of reasons, but mainly for the car shows that start popping up around the country. The sun comes out and so do the classic cars, hot rods and muscle cars. This weekend we stopped by the 22nd Annual Classic Car Show in Seal Beach, California along with about 25,000 other folks. The show features around 500 cars, stretching from PCH to the pier right down the heart of Main Street.

The day includes a pancake breakfast, a running of the local pinewood derby, and a whole lotta' fun. Besides the bands that show up to play everything from swing to rock-and-roll, there were also the sounds of the cars themselves during the periodic cacklefest moments of the day. That's when the show participants are encouraged to start 'em up and stomp the loud pedal. It's quite an earful, especially if you happen to be standing next to one of the dozen or so race cars in attendance, like we did when a vintage Yeakel dragster once piloted by Tom "Mongoose" McEwen dropped the throttle.

Although muscle cars are generally king at these types of gatherings, there are also a number of other classes. Everything from the aforementioned race cars to European classics; from hot rods to Woodies; from customs to boats, bikes and even buses. A great event that puts a big emphasis on wholesome family fun in a quintessentially American way and you can check it out in our massive gallery below.

Gallery: 22nd Seal Beach Classic Car Show

Photos copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.
Autoblog spends a day at the 22nd Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 19:31:00 EST. Thirty years ago, the K represented a sea change in the Pentastar lineup. Not only did the K and its derivatives return Chrysler to the black, the architecture proved versatile enough to underpin basically the entire lineup, from minivans to LeBarons to turbocharged Daytonas. Southern California now has an official K Car club - fitting, as that's likely the only place you could find an early '80s Chrysler without lots of rust. Club membership is open to the entire swath of cars that share this similar architecture, known as the "EEK" models, so you won't get kicked out for showing up in a Caravelle instead of an Aries. Now's the time to hunt one of these cars down if you're looking for a cheap, enjoyable way to get into the hobby. They're available for a song, don't yet command any respect (perhaps they never will), yet the K Car is edging its way toward official classic status regardless of what some traditionalists might argue. The K Cars are nearly classic, they're historic and significant and worth saving. The hobby must live on after all the boomers are buried in their Tri-Fives, and a Reliant would be a great way to show an interested kid the basics.

[Hemmings Classic Car - sub req]
It was bound to happen: K Car Club springs up originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 09:59:00 EST. The 1970's cult classic featured the black and white playing chase with a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1. These days, though, the officers use more efficient methods to capture muscle cars; they invite them over for a fundraising car show. Over the weekend, the Long Beach Police Academy held a classic car show to benefit the department's K9 Officers Association. A few dozen impeccable examples of automobile preservation took over the grounds of the Long Beach Police Officers Association Park. Not to be rude hosts, the organization even showed off an old Dodge Cornet and Model T police cruiser amongst the numerous Bel Airs, Mustangs and Vegas.

Browsing through the rows of vintage automobiles wasn't the only event incentive for us to attend. The Orange County German Shepherd rescue showed off dogs available for adoption and the K9 officers put on a training demonstration. As a new GSD owner, I could not resist the combination of sleek cars and furry wet noses. The dual purpose car show/charity event is always a relaxing way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Be sure and check out the event gallery in the link below.

Gallery: 2008 Long Beach K9 Officer Benefit Car Show

Long Beach K9 Officers Association Car Show originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 14 May 2008 10:31:00 EST. We got to hang out with the gullwing-afficionado Bricklin folks, and on Sunday, we headed up to Vermont's Stratton Mountain for the New England Concours D'Elegance. The event was put on in smashing style by the good people at Hemmings, and even though we didn't make it up for the much larger general car show on Saturday, Sunday's Concours was no less enthralling. Concours events are another level entirely, with the field being comprised of cars so perfectly restored they grab you by the earlobes and make you pay attention. If they're not restored, the cars are authentic examples with the most exceptional patina. Either way, the cars at the Concours were incredible.

There were cars from virtually every era of motoring, with powerplants as diverse as DC electric motors to Italian V12s. We can't possibly recount all that we saw, but there was a particular '66 Ferrari that blew us away with its originality, a Daimler SP250 proudly displaying its diminutive hemi-head V8, a Duesenberg racer, 1930s luxury rides from Lincoln, Auburn, Pierce-Arrow and Packard, and we finally got to see that DeSoto with electronic fuel injection up close and personal. If you've never been to a concours, you owe it to yourself to go - where else can you take in an unrestored Mercury X100 in exceptionally clean condition, the most perfect '68 Hemi Charger we'd ever seen, and plenty of befinned Cadillacs. We made a whirlwind stop, and shot a hair over 100 pictures, so without further ado, we'll shut up so you can get to the pictures.

Gallery: Hemmings New England Concours D'Elegance

Beauty in the Green Mountains - Hemmings Concours - HUGE Gallery originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 27 Jul 2007 13:04:00 EST. The Bricklin SV-1, Bricklin's 1970s stab at a safety GT, of course has a cult following. How could you deny the coolness of these low-slung, gullwing-door, V8 coupes? This weekend, in the North Central Massachusetts hamlet of Leominster, about 40 SV-1s are expected, along with Malcolm Bricklin and the man responsible for the styling, Herb Grasse, for the Bricklin International Owner's Club's 2007 Bricklin International Gathering East. The cars have been trickling in to town all day, and we managed to snap a few shots at the hotel this evening. We'll be going back, armed with more photo and video gear on Saturday, so these quick shots are just to whet your appetite. There will be more SV-1s present, and likely several DeLoreans when we go back, and next year, both marques are teaming up to have an extravaganza in Gettysburg, PA. If you like your iconoclastic GTs shaped like doorstops, don't miss it!

Thanks for the heads up, Toby!

Gallery: Bricklin Meet 1

The most Bricklins we've ever seen in one place originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 20 Jul 2007 10:04:00 EST.
Click on the above picture to view the entire Autorama photo gallery

If you went to the Autorama in Detroit, you saw a lot of hot-rods with big-time blowers, some of the best paint-jobs ever, and lots of expensive memorabilia. What you didn't see were Hondas and Toyotas (except one Avalon) because Autorama is all about Motor City Metal with Plymouths, Fords, and Chevys as far as the eye can see. There were hundreds of cars and trucks filling up Cobo Arena and many of the automotive artworks were built by regular folks, which makes it way cooler than when the big corporations fix up our favorite hotrods.

Each year the organizers of Autorama pull in some celebrity talent to bolster attendance, and this year they had pro wrestlers, Sponge Bob, "Overhaulin's" Chris Jacobs, and the legendary mod-master Chip Foose. The line to get an autograph was longer than the checkout at Best Buy the day after Thanksgiving, and Chip gave his fans something worth standing in line for. One lucky kid got an autograph and a hand-drawn sketch from Chip himself.

Oh and a few pics of West Coast Customs' primer black two-door CLS. Sweet. The highlight, however, has got to be the convertible version of Jeff Gordon's NASCAR ride. Bill France, if you're reading this, we really want to see these things on the track. Either in its own class or right there alongside the coupe versions. Just imagine the excitement (not to mention dealer sales) these cars could bring to the NASCAR brand. Get back to us, we've got some ideas about helmet-optional motorcycle racing too.

Enjoy this gallery of 30 high-res 1280x photos from CES.

Btw, we do apologize for the lack of full-on shots from CES. The place is so crowded, it's very difficult to get decent shots without someone walking into the frame. We tried mace, a large stick, even some guy named Guido we found on the Strip to try to keep people out of our shots, but, as you might imagine, CES officials were unhappy. Next year, we're thinking positive reinforcement. Maybe distract the crowds with cookies. Or swag bags full of USB drives.

CES 2007: The Cars of CES Part III originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 11 Jan 2007 11:32:00 EST. And the response was overwhelming. Now in its 3rd year, the event continues to grow and this year exceeded its goal. More than 10,000 toys have been donated so far! This very special event collects toys for the California Highway Patrol Chips For Kids Program. There are many needed causes this time of year and several notable fundraiser events, but this one is special.

Big clickable gallery after the jump.
Continue reading Motor4Toys reaches 10,000 toy goal

Motor4Toys reaches 10,000 toy goal originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 19 Dec 2006 19:01:00 EST. Auto Shows
Updated captions by John

Another one of those small classic car shows that seem to pop up all over the place on any given weekend, the Best of France and Italy show, now in its 6th year, was held this past Sunday. Every year it manages to draw out some of the greatest examples of French and Italian classics that are such a part of the European car scene. But this show is held in America, and more specifically California, so some of the vehicles are very rare sights for showgoers. Held at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, it's a showcase for the best of French and Italian motoring machinery. This is a non-judged show, covering everything from "the rough restoration project to the serious concours offering."

Entrants are encouraged to bring their whole collection, although the organizers point out that even if you don't have a car, there are plenty for sale. Sure there are modern examples of Europe's finest, but the biggest reason to attend this show, compared to similar concours around SoCal, are the oddball creations that always manage to find their way into the field: "The intent of this gathering is to provide a meeting place for those marques that get little attention at the fancier concours." Local celebrities often show up at this event, a stone's throw from Burbank and Hollywood. Leno often brings some wonderfully weird creation and Bruce Meter almost always has some outrageously awesome Ferrari from the '50s or '60s to share. Here we offer a small taste via the photos of our friend Duane at SoCalSpeedZone.com. Full gallery available by following the read link. Mark Greeley and Bob Cheatley loved meeting with their friends and fellow "Donut Derelicts" at the corner of Magnolia and Adams in Huntington Beach every Saturday, but the 4 am wakeup time was getting to be a pain. Also, it was a bit of a drive. So they decided to meet a little later in the morning at the newly opened Crystal Cove Promenade right down PCH from them. Little did Mark and Bob know that this would eventually grow to be one of the most talked about exotic and classic car gatherings on the planet.
