<br />The on again, off again roller coaster ride that is General Motors' product development schedule once again apparently has a green light; the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro convertible. The drop-top Camaro is once again scheduled for a 2011 grand entrance, one year after the first Bowtie pony cars begin rolling off the line in Oshawa. <em>Motor Trend</em> reported <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/13/chevrolet-camaro-convertible-on-hold/">back in November</a> that the convertible Camaro was in trouble due to GM's cash crunch, and last week we learned from The Detroit Bureau that financial problems at a German supplier for the car's roof was <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/20/report-chevrolets-camaro-convertible-delayed-z28-facing-cance/">threating the model's timetable</a>. For its part, General Motors insists that the topless Camaro has always been scheduled for one year after the coupe began production, but now <em>Motor Trend</em> is now saying that the Camaro Convertible will probably not arrive until the first quarter of 2011 (likely as a 2012 model).<br /><br />With a reported 14,000 pre-orders already on the books for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/first-drive-2010-chevrolet-camaro/">fixed-roof Camaro</a>, GM is looking at some much needed good news in the short term. To better compete with Ford's Mustang and Dodge's Challenger, though, the General will need to make good on a ragtop variant (and perhaps a Z28, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/20/report-chevrolets-camaro-convertible-delayed-z28-facing-cance/">although that looks unlikely to happen</a>). If MT's reports are accurate, the gap between coupe and convertible models is likely to be well over a year, which will be a tough pill for sunlovers to swallow. However, if the production model looks as good as the concept shown above, the Camaro could have all the inertia it needs when the top comes down.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/camaro-convertible-concept/low/">Camaro Convertible Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/x07cc_ch031_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/x07cc_ch032_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/x07cc_ch033_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/x07cc_ch034_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/camaro-convertible-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/x07cc_ch035_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://blogs.motortrend.com/6494105/car-news/chevrolet-resolves-its-camaro-convertible-problem/index.html">Motor Trend</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/24/chevrolet-camaro-convertible-reportedly-back-on-albeit-running/">Chevrolet Camaro convertible reportedly back on, albeit running late</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 24 Mar 2009 12:56:00 EST. <br />I saw a totally badass black Camaro SS with a silver racing stripe on I-696 on the way home from work yesterday. When I hit I-94, I saw two more, and they were driving side by side. I thought I'd stumbled upon a cornucopia of Camaros, but I wasn't even close to the mother lode that a Camaro5 reader found. Sitting at the Oshawa car plant in Canada is a lot full of hot and ready Camaros. They're all red, yellow, silver, or black, and they all look ready for the showroom floor. Has production already begun for the highly anticipated (and long awaited) Chevy Camaro? No official word from GM yet, but it sure looks like it. <em>Thanks for the tip, Andy and Jamie! Also, thanks to Elvisuperman for the photos.</em> <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaros-at-the-factory/low/">2010 Camaros at the factory</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaros-at-the-factory/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/lot2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaros-at-the-factory/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/lot1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaros-at-the-factory/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/lot3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14931">Camaro5</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/07/lot-o-camaros-has-production-started/">Lot o' Camaros - Has production started?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 07 Mar 2009 11:59:00 EST. Unfortunately for an electrician at the General Motors Assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario where the Camaro is due to begin production late this year he ignored the warning. Worse yet, he took some shots inside the body shop where pilot production units were making their way down the line and then showed them to his kids. The youngsters evidently extracted said photos and shared them with the world. <br /><br />The electrician with 28 years of seniority has apparently now learned that those signs were not an empty threat. Even though there is nothing particularly secret about how car bodies are welded together or about how the new Camaro looks, GM and other manufacturers are serious about those policies. This employee who apparently just wanted show off a bit for his kids is now unemployed. Was it worth it? If you're going to whip out the camera phone, you might want to be a little more discreet about how you share the pics.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaro-in-production/low/">2010 Camaro in Production</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaro-in-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/camaro3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaro-in-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/camaro1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaro-in-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/camaro10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaro-in-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/camaro2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-camaro-in-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/camaro4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.leftlanenews.com/report-electrician-at-gm-plant-loses-job-over-camaro-leak.html">LeftLane News</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/01/no-camera-phones-allowed-gm-plant-electrician-fired-for-camaro/">No camera phones allowed! A fully brain-functional Wagoner posed with a red version of the concept car for the obligatory photo-op (above).<br /><br />Production of the Camaro will begin in late 2008, and the much-anticipated car will hit showrooms in early 2009, presumably after a massive debut at the '09 Detroit Auto Show.<br /><br />Not much new, but here are the highlights:<br />
<ul>
    <li>RWD with independent rear suspension</li>
    <li>V6 and V8 versions, manual and automatic transmissions</li>
    <li>styling will closely resemble the concept car</li>
    <li>asked about a droptop Camaro, Wagoner would only say, "It will come in many shapes and sizes."</li>
    <li>no comment on a possible Pontiac Firebird version</li>
</ul>
