Company: Chrysler

Brand: Jeep

Medium: Multimedia

Ad Agency: Global Hue

Product: Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: MW3 Special Edition

Campaign: "Toughest Vehicle in the World."

What We Like: Not all of us are video gamers. But there is apparently a big overlap between Jeep Wrangler buyers and those who worship the most popular video game franchise on the planet: Call of Duty. Jeep's latest ad campaign puts the Wrangler back in the franchise's latest installment, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which went on sale today. This is a sequel to last year's successful partnership between Jeep and Call of Duty: Black Ops. The TV and web advertisements for this new campaign work like trailers for Modern Warfare 3, while the billboard and print ads carry through the look and feel of the Call of Duty world.

Given the Wrangler's history when it comes to warfare, especially World War II, this co-branding is a natural fit. If you are a gamer, it's cool. And even if you aren't a gamer, it looks pretty neat and gives Jeep an alternative environment (apart from mountains and streams) to place the Wrangler. We especially like the copy line in the print ads that says on one page, "Toughest Vehicle in the World," and on the second page, "The Toughest Vehicle in any World."

What We Don't Like: Unless video games that take place amidst warfare aren't your cup of tea, there's not much to criticize here. We can potentially see some of the more environment-loving Jeep enthusiast base not cottoning to the warfare association, but that's probably not enough to get them out of their Wranglers anyway.

Strategy: Zounds! According to numbers supplied by Chrysler, nine million people play Call of Duty every night. That's a bigger audience than those watch Bill O'Reilly and Rachel Maddow combined. This is a slam-dunk deal for Jeep, and the company extends into the real world with a special edition Call of Duty: MW3 Wrangler that sells at a price premium and is over-sold.

The standard Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: MW3 Special Edition is an impressive piece of machinery by any standard, but if you're looking for something with a little more bite, Xtreme Outfitters may have what you're looking for. The company has created a custom Wrangler just for the Army Rangers. The stock drivetrain was pulled in favor of a Burnsville 5.7-liter Hemi V8 conversion paired to a five-speed automatic transmission while the standard axles were scrapped for a Dana 44 front and Dana 60 rear from Dynatrac. A TeraFlex four-inch long arm kit with provides a little extra lift, while Fox 2.0 performance shocks ensure that this Wrangler can soak up whatever terrain you decided to conquer.

Smittybilt provided a set of XRC armor fenders, an SRC stinger bumper and a rear XRC bumper with an adjustable tire mount, some of which have been decorated with shots from a 9mm pistol. Xtreme Outfitters also worked with BMF for a set of pre-production Novakane 17x9-inch wheels.

Inside, the Wrangler uses custom lighting from Rigid Lighting and Katzkin custom two-tone leather seats embroidered with the Ranger logo. Xtreme Outfitters has donated the Wrangler to the Army Rangers to be auctioned off to benefit veteran Rangers. Raffle tickets are $25 a piece, and you can enter as many times as you like. Xtreme Outfitters says that the total build tallies up to around $150,000, though all of the decommissioned firearms spread around the cabin aren't part of the deal. Head over to the Rangers site for more information.
Xtreme Outfitters Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Call of Duty: Black Ops is charitably awesome originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 18:59:00 EST.
Jeep and Activision have partnered up once again, this time to produce a new special edition Wrangler designed to commemorate the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The 2012 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: MW3 Special Edition is set to land on dealer lots on November 8 in conjunction with the launch of the latest chapter in the Modern Warfare video game saga. It packs aggressive 32-inch tires, special graphics on the front fenders and spare tire cover, a unique power dome hood and a stack of Mopar goodies. Those include a stout front bumper built to handle a winch, a revised rear bumper and rock rails among other bits.

Based on the Wrangler Rubicon, the new special edition features live axles, locking differentials in the front and rear a two-speed transfer case to help you stock up on Mountain Dew no matter what's between you and the local Costco.

Inside, Jeep has outfitted the cabin with seats embroidered with the Call of Duty logo as well as a serialized dash plaque. There's no word on how much the special edition will cost you when it goes on sale in a little over a month. Hit the jump for the press blast.
Continue reading Call of Duty: MW3 Edition Jeep stands at attention

Call of Duty: MW3 Edition Jeep stands at attention originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 02 Sep 2011 14:01:00 EST.
It looks like Jeep and Activision Publishing are continuing their successful partnership, placing battlefield-ready Wranglers in the Call of Duty video game series and selling a real-life version to gamers who wish to shuttle themselves to and fro in rough-and-tumble off-road-ready opulence.

For those unaware, there's a new version of the video game series heading to store shelves in short order, and Jeep is wasting no time showing its own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Wrangler to the public.

Interestingly, Jeep decided to bring out its COD 3 Wrangler for the first time at the 2011 Woodward Dream Cruise, sporting all manner of specific gaming paraphernalia; such as new front and rear bumpers (the rear one holds water), mesh reliefs in the hood, flat black wheels with large, blocky tires and large metal emblems.

Expect this latest COD-infused Wrangler to hit the market in the fall, timed to coincide with the release of the affiliated video game. In the meantime, check out some live shots in our image gallery, courtesy of Sidequesting.com.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Jeep Wrangler spotted at Woodward originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 24 Aug 2011 18:00:00 EST.
The holiday season really is the most wonderful time of the year for those of us who dabble in video games. Studios nearly always release a deluge of mind-bending titles toward this end of the calendar, and this year is no different. While Gran Turismo 5 and Fallout New Vegas are likely to pull down quite a few hard-earned dollars, few are as hotly anticipated as the newest installment in the Call of Duty franchise - Black Ops. Even Jeep has gotten in on the action by releasing a special-edition Wrangler to commemorate the game.

The SUV shows up in gameplay, and Activision has been so kind as to release a trailer of the Wrangler doing what it does best - running down baddies amidst a hail of explosions and gunfire. You can hit the jump to see the brief clip for yourself.

Fans of the Call of Duty video game franchise know that the latest edition, Call of Duty: Black Ops, will be released on November 9th. What you might not know, however, is that Activision Publishing, Inc. - the folks responsible for distributing Call of Duty - have partnered with Jeep, not only to have the Wrangler featured in the latest addition of the CoD series, but to create a special Call of Duty edition of Jeep's most popular vehicle.

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition hits dealerships next month, priced from $30,625 for the two-door model and $33,500 for the four-door Unlimited (a base two-door Rubican normally starts at $28,775). Based on the Wrangler's Rubicon trim, the Black Ops Edition features mineral gray alloy wheels wrapped in 32-inch off-road tires, Mopar taillamp guards, a Mopar fuel door, Call of Duty: Black Ops logos, an entirely blacked-out exterior and... that's it. Unless, of course, you count all of the Wrangler's upgrades for 2011, not the least of which is a redesigned interior. Read the full details for yourself in Jeep's press release, after the jump.

If you are a fan of both video games and limited-edition theme vehicles, then today is your lucky day. Chrysler has announced that they will be building a Call of Duty-themed Jeep Wrangler to coincide with the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops game. The video game is set to be released on November 9th, 2010 and the CoD Wrangler will be offered for sale around that time as well. According to our friends at Joystiq, the Wrangler will make numerous appearances throughout the game so you can drive your Jeep on screen for hours then hop into the real thing to give your thumbs a break.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but a base 2011 Jeep Wrangler will set you back $22,045. If you're interested in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Jeep Wrangler then you better start saving your quarters now. Thanks for the tip, Vitor!
