Porsche is looking to help five lucky families celebrate the holiday season this year. The German automaker's lifestyle accessory division, Porsche Design, has come up with what has to be the world's costliest advent calendar. Instead of an array of tasty chocolates stashed in a cardboard calendar, the company has built an aluminum tower nearly six-feet tall. There are unique Porsche Design gifts designed to correspond with each day in the run up to Christmas, including niceties like a P'6910 mechanical stopwatch, a full P'7340 kitchen and, probably most impressively, an RFF28 "motor yacht" with a single 525-horsepower Mercury engine. Quite how they get the last two items to fit in the tower, we're not entirely sure.

The rest of the days are marked by goodies like Porsche Design cuff links, pens and sunglasses dipped in 18-karat yellow gold. The price for all of this finery? A cool one $1 million, but with only five of the calendars being created, we're guessing that they'll have a shot at selling them all. If you've got the funds and nothing better to spend it on, Porsche says you can request your own calendar at any Porsche Design store. Hit the jump to read the full press release.

September means the end of summer vacation, but the automotive festivities continue, including the Paris Motor Show at the very end of the month. We'll have a full team coverage in the City of Lights, but that's almost a month away. Between now and then there are hundreds of car-related events to keep all but the most rabid gearheads satisfied.

While our coverage of Monterey and the Woodward Dream Cruise last month gave us a year's worth of classic and collectible car memories, September has a lot more to offer for classic car fans. Here's some highlights:
If you'd like to buy your own classic, there are plenty of auctions in September as well: RM Auctions: Auburn Fall Collector Car Auction, Worldwide Auctioneers Auburn Auction, The Branson Auction, Vintage Toy Vehicle Auction, Mecum St. Charles Auction and the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction.

Racing fans can take in Formula 1 action during the Italian and Singapore Grands Prix. NASCAR has stops at Atlanta, Richmond, New Hampshire and Dover. IndyCar heads to Kentucky and Japan in September before wrapping up the 2010 season in Miami in October. The WRC hosts the Rally Japan this month, while the ALMS heads to Georgia for the Petit Le Mans at the end of the month. Grand-Am fanciers can catch the last race of the season at Miller Motorsports Park. Two-wheel fans can see the AMA Pro Superbike Championship at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

August is here, meaning it's time for our annual pilgrimage to Monterey for the smorgasbord of classic and collectible cars that awaits. Events there include Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival, The Pebble Beach Tour, Concorso Italiano, The Quail, the auctions, The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Concours d'LeMons and the granddaddy of them all - The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. We'll be on hand to cover it all for you, just in case you can't make the trip yourself.

For those of you more inclined toward American iron, Hot August Nights is going on and there's the annual Woodward Dream Cruise happening in Detroit as well. Those are in addition to many other end-of-summer-type events happening around the rest of the country, like New York Autofest, Legends of Motorsport: Corvette Grand Sport, BMW West Coast Summer Concours, The 53rd Annual New Hope Automobile Show, Columbia River Concours d'Elegance, The Milwaukee Masterpiece, The Morgan Adams Concours d'Elegance, BlackTop Nationals, 4th Annual Garage Cruise, 15th CARS Inc. Open House, 20th Annual Sultans Car Show, Vista Rod Run 21, VW Jamboree, 40th Annual North - South F100 Run and the 10th Annual Woodies at the Beach to name several.

Motorsports aficionados have plenty of choices in August as well. Formula 1 hits Hungary and Belgium, while NASCAR visits Pocono, Watkins Glen, MIS and Bristol. The IndyCar Series stops at Mid-Ohio, Infineon and Chicagoland, while ALMS heads to Mid-Ohio, Road America and Mosport. WRC will be in action in Germany, while Rally America fans can catch the gang at the X-Games 16 and then at New Jersey Motorsports Park at the end of the month. LeMons brings its budget racing action to the LeMons Arse-Sweat-Apalooza and LeMons Mutually Assured Destruction of Omaha.

July means Independence Day to most Americans, but it also means racing, concours, auctions, shows, meets, rallies, and tons of other summer car fun. As July 9 has officially been dubbed Collector Car Appreciation Day, it's only fitting that we start off with a couple of vintage car events. The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place the first weekend in July this year, with three days of vintage and exotic car action from West Sussex, England. The Meadow Brook Concours will once again bring some of the finest classic cars in the world together on the lawns of Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Michigan.

There are also hundreds of other shows planned, like the Jellybean Show in Surrey, B.C., Michigan Camaro Superfest, Hot San Jose Nights, Dana Point Porsche 356 Concours, Bixby Knolls Drag Fest, Keeneland Concours, San Diego Jaguar Concours, SEMA Show and Shine in Pasadena, Lexani Lifestyle event in Anaheim, and several events at the Petersen and Simeone Museums.

Racing fans will also have a busy schedule, especially if they plan on following multiple series. Formula 1 fans can take in the Grands Prix from Britain and Germany, while NASCAR visits Daytona, Chicago and Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400. The IndyCar Series makes an Independence Day stop at Watkins Glen before the transporters load up and head north of the border for races in Toronto and Edmonton. The ALMS guys and gals are back from their European vacation, and heading to Miller Motorsports Park and Lime Rock Park in July. The rally aces of the WRC will be in action in Bulgaria and Finland, while Rally America fans can catch the gang at the New England Forest Rally. Grand-Am cars will be visiting Daytona and New Jersey while the NHRA circus will be hitting stops in Seattle, Sonoma and Denver this month.

The end of May celebration of Memorial Day signals the unofficial start of Summer in the States, and that means tons of local car meets, shows, concours and drives. Some of the biggies in June include the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance and Orphan Car Show, and the 46th Annual LA Roadsters Show, Dana Point, Huntington Beach, Rodeo Drive and Pismo Beach Concurs in Southern California.

Smaller, but no less important events around the country and around the globe include AutoMat's 53rd Anniversary Car Show, Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show, 14th Annual CycleFest, Red Mill British Car Day, Westbury Gardens AACA Automobile Event, Viking Classic Auto Show 2010, The Drive-In, 15th Annual San Clemente Car Show, British Motorcar Gathering, Classy Chassis Concours d'Elegance, Concours de Nice, Citroën Rendezvous, 18th Annual Klingberg Vintage Motorcar Festival, East Coast Annual Ferrari Meet, SoCal Euro CARnival 2010, and the weekly CruzinPort meet and Friday Night Classic Car Cruise Night out east.

Racing fans will be busy with the Grand Prix of Canada and Europe in Formula 1. NASCAR visits Pocono, Michigan, Sonoma and Loudon before gearing up for a return to Daytona in early July. Fresh from its namesake Indy 500, IndyCar heads to Texas and Iowa. The ALMS guys and gals have the month off as their European counterparts partake in 24 hours of grueling action at the series' signature track - Le Mans. No WRC races either in June, but Rally America fans can catch the Susquehannock Trail Rally. Grand-Am holds the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen in June. The NHRA circus is busy every single weekend with races in Chicago, Bristol and Norwalk, Ohio bracketing the SuperNationals in Englishtown, NJ.

Other racing action in June includes vintage racing at the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival and the 40th Annual Antique Nationals vintage drag racing festival. LeMons heads to Dallas and Summit Point too, while a new season of Pinks All Out launches this month as well.

June auctions include RM sales of The Pate Collection and the Classic Muscle and Modern Performance sale. Bonham's hosts the Collector's Motorcars and Memorabilia and Barrett-Jackson makes its first stop in Orange County, California.

We've wrapped up our Beijing Motor Show coverage as April closes and May begins, signaling the end of the major international auto show season. We'll have a spring and summer full of concours, racing, meets, exhibitions and more to keep us busy though until the new car reveals pick up again in October at the Paris Motor Show.

This month racing fans will be busy with Formula 1 action from Spain and the legendary Grand Prix de Monaco. NASCAR stops at Richmond, Darlington and Dover before the two-week extravaganza that leads up to the Coca-Cola 600. IndyCar starts off with the Road Runner 300 from Kansas City, but the month of May means only one thing to open-wheel fans - The Indy 500.

The ALMS guys and gals head to Monterey for their annual crack at the corkscrew of Laguna Seca. WRC fans can see action from New Zealand and Portugal, while Rally America stages the Oregon Trail Rally. The NHRA schedule finds the Southern Nationals in Atlanta and the Summer Nationals in Topeka following the conclusion of the Midwest Nationals that start at the end of April.

Other racing action in May includes the Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports at the Mitty at Road Atlanta, Jefferson 500 at Summit Point, Historic Grand Prix of Monaco, Portland AHRMA Classic, SCCA Pro Racing at NJMP, SVRA Spring Vintage Weekend, 20th Annual Vintage Racing Celebration at NHMSNew Jersey Vintage Grand Prix and Family Festival, and the Olthoff Racing VIR Track Day with the SVT Cobra Mustang Club.

May auctions include two biggies - The RM Auctions Sporting Classics of Monaco and the Mecum Spring Classic.

Concours, meets and shows are beginning to fill out the calendar again as the weather improves and May is the month for the Newport Concours as well as Keels and Wheels, All-AMC Show in Gettysburg, Britfest 2010, Long Island Car Show, Pindar Vineyards - Run Out East, The Petersen Museum Discovery Days: Pop-up Greeting Cards, East Coast Boardwalk National Car Show, The Quail Motorcycle Gathering, MOPARS in May, Meguiar's Orange County Get-Together, Saratoga Automobile Museum Spring Invitational and Auto Show, Marin Sonoma Concours d'Elegance, and Micro/Mini Car Cruise - Bear Mountain Silver Mine Roundup among many others.

We were getting a bit of spring fever, so thank goodness April is here to help us out. The New York Auto Show concludes the major American show season this month, with several key debuts scheduled for the exhibition at the Jacob Javits center and the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition happens a couple of weeks later.

Racing fans will be busy with Formula 1 action from Malaysia and the Chinese Grand Prix. NASCAR stops at Phoenix, Texas and Talladega. IndyCar visits Alabama before making its annual stop in Long Beach. ALMS returns to Long Beach as well. WRC fans can see action from Jordan and Turkey, while Rally America stages the Olympus Rally. The NHRA schedule finds the Spring Nationals in Houston, the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas, and the Midwest Nationals in Madison. SFR/SCCA will put on the Vintage Volvo event, while classic car aficionados can also partake in the Copperstate 1000, California Mille, or the LeMons American Irony.

April auctions include the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction, The Branson Auction, Spring Carlisle Auction, Classic Car Auction of Michigan presented by RM, and the Sporting Classics of Monaco sale.

Auto show season keeps marching on in March with wall-to-wall coverage coming your way from the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, which is just winding down. Motorsports enthusiasts can look forward to the start of the 2010 Formula One season with all the action kicking off in Bahrain, followed two weeks later by the Australian Grand Prix. American open-wheel fans have IndyCar action in Brazil and St. Petersburg in March, while NASCAR visits Atlanta, Martinsville and Bristol. For fans of the unorthodox, the LeMons bunch will make a stop at Sears Point.

Classic car season is ramping up too, with the Amelia Island Concours topping the list. Just like January equals Detroit, February means Chicago for auto show lovers. The major players will again descend upon McCormick Place in the Windy City, along the banks of the still-frozen Lake Michigan. Other auto shows in February include the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto, plus regional shows in Philadelphia and Syracuse. Hot Rodders have the Sacramento Autorama to look forward to, while classic car aficionados have Boca Raton and The Desert Classic in La Quinta to get the Concours d' Elegance season going.

The American motorsports season kicked off yesterday with the Rolex 24 at Daytona, but other series will kick it into gear in February. The Bud Shootout signals the return of bump-drafts as NASCAR starts the 2010 season with this all-star lead-in to Daytona, and drag racing action explodes back onto the scene with the 50th Annual Winternationals in Pomona. Meanwhile, Formula 1 and ALMS teams are busy practicing, getting ready for their season openers in March.

Besides those automotive events, there's Valentine's Day and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver to keep non-car people occupied in February. January 2010 not only kicks off a new year, but also signals the end of the Naughties. The automotive landscape has changed quite a bit since the days of the Y2K scare, but some things remain the same. January still hosts the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) at Cobo Hall in Detroit, the racing season roars to life with the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Barrett-Jackson and the rest of the auction houses will still be propping up their tents in Arizona, and the RetroMobile classic car show and auction will return to the banks of the Seine in Paris.

Classic and collectible car fans will also be treated to the Cavallino Classic, La Jolla Motor Classic, Grand National Roadster Show, and Kruse South Florida Collector Car Auction. Meanwhile, consumers get a chance to kick tires and take notes on the 2010 models at the San Diego Auto Show, Washington Auto Show and Portland International Auto Show domestically, and internationally at the European Motor Show Brussels and Auto Expo India. Besides Daytona, race fans can look forward to events as diverse as the IRC's 78th Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo and the World Drag Expo swapmeet in Schaumburg, Illinois.

As we slowly emerge from our Thanksgiving food comas, we can start gearing up for more holiday food, family, and fun in December, with an automotive twist. We can also look forward to the real beginning of the auto show season with the first major American show, the LA Auto Show. There are also some smaller shows like the New England Auto Show in Boston, and the conclusion of the San Francisco International Auto Show at the Moscone Center.

All of the major motorsports seasons have concluded, but there will be plenty of silly season news to cover. There are small concours and special events going on in December as well -- The 2nd Spirit of Competition Awards Dinner at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum, East Coast Indoor Nationals at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, Gulf Coast Motor Sports Holiday Cruisin Southern Style, 8th Annual Kustom Kulture Show in Anaheim, CA, and the 4th Annual Family Picnic and carnival at The Petersen Automotive Museum in LA,

There will also be a slew of Toys for Tots-type charity car shows as we head into the Holidays. We'll be returning to two of our favorites, the 6th Annual Motor4Toys event, and the 6th Annual Toys for Tots Drive hosted by the Schnuerer family in Huntington Beach, CA, but there are many more such events going on all around the country. Check your local paper for more and if you come across any, feel free to post details and links in the comments.

Sure, there's a Porsche calendar and a Mini calendar, but what if you're the kind of enthusiast who likes the bigger things in life - and we mean really big. Like, industrial-mining and earth-moving big. If so, then the 2010 Heavy Equipment Calendar is for you. The folks at Baumaschinen24 spent four months all over Europe capturing some of the biggest objects man has ever built , such as the Terex O&K RH120-E Mining Excavator, in slinky, naked, dirt-flinging poses.

As with the date-keepers from Pirelli et al, there's quite a bit of airbrushing. Still, as a symbol of what went into it, its makers call it "THE Construction Equipment Calendar," to distinguish it from all those other construction calendars you've been eying. For many of us November means football, parades, turkey hangovers, and family dysfunctionality in the form of Thanksgiving, but we car people tend to be more thankful for SEMA, the Chase and the crowning of a new champion in Formula 1 (Well, the conclusion of another season at least, since Jenson Button already locked up his first drivers championship and Brawn likewise nabbed the constructors title in its maiden season.)

As the year begins drawing to a close, we still have a handful of Fall cruises, auctions, meets and concours going on, but the automotive calendar is otherwise looking pretty sparse as we enter the penultimate month of 2009.

Connecticut has its local auto show, the Petersen is hosting an auction and tribute to Trans-Am racing, the Best of France and Italy show hits Van Nuys, and the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals visit Rosemont, Illinois. Other than that, we can expect a lot of silly season musical chairs and a slew of new car sneak peeks ahead of the first major show of the 2010 season in Los Angeles at the beginning of December.

2010 Porsche calendars and diary -- Click above for high-res image gallery

Porsche has released info and images on its three calendars and diary that will be happy to keep you company throughout 2010. Two of them are especially focused on the Panamera, because damn it, you're going to like that car whether you like it or not...

The Driver's Perspective calendar provides images of various models, highlighting the Panamera, and comes with a collector's coin "which shows the motto and the year." The Designed 4 Ambition Calendar was hatched by the designers at the Development Centre in Weissach and is focused on "extraordinary sporting performance and individual exclusivity," taking its subject as -- you guessed it -- the Panamera. It comes with a CD-ROM that also holds a short film and a screensaver, and there will only be 4,000 made.

Finally, the One of a Kind calendar take behind-the-scenes peeks at classic cars, like the Martini Racing car pictured above, of which only one was ever built. Minimalism Calendar -- Click above for high-res image gallery

Mini made a calendar. Or rather, Mini assembled a calendar with artworks chosen from among thousands submitted from around the globe. The calendar's theme is Minimalism, and the only rule for submissions was to include a silhouette of the car in the piece. For car calendar fans, there are no topless women - nor topless Minis, for that matter - slathered in oil...

The calendar presents the 12 works chosen by a team of judges that included Mini design head Gert Hildebrand. The works tend toward the funky and, of course, the modern, but if you're a Mini owner they'll probably make you happy just looking at them. You can check out three of the pieces in the high-res gallery below. For the rest of you who don't want a Mini but just want the art, you can find out more about the calendar at the Minimalism site and buy it for €21 ($31 U.S.) at the Mini shop.

October means Halloween to many, but to car people it also means Tokyo, The Chase, ALMS at Laguna Seca and the home stretch for IndyCar and Formula 1. There are also a bunch of Fall cruises, meets and concours, so the old car crowd won't be left out this month either.

Foremost on that list are two events we'll be at again this year, the 27th Annual Concours d' Elegance at The St. Regis in Dana Point, California, and the Wings Wheels Rotors & Expo in Los Alamitos. There's also Sportscar Vintage Racing Association at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Japanese Classic Car Show, Circle Yer Wagens, Scarsdale Concours, One Love Weekend, Vintage Rallies Mountain Mille, VRG Vintage Races at Watkins Glen, 2009 All-Pontiac Show, Super Stang Fest 2009, Vettes at the Village, Micro & Minicar Cruise at Bear Mountain, and the Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance to close out the month.

There will be auction action too, with Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas, Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey by RM, and gigantic Classic Car Auction of Toronto. Motorsports fans are in for some late-season championship action with Formula 1 making visits to Suzuka and Brazil, ALMS at Laguna Seca, the IndyCar finale at Homestead, and NASCAR making four stops as The Chase continues - Kansas, Fontana, Charlotte and Martinsville.

Besides the ever-shrinking Tokyo Motor Show, there are also going to be a regional show in Anaheim, but Americans will have to wait until Los Angeles in December to get most of the European and Asian debuts from Frankfurt and Tokyo.

September brings a whole bunch of Labor Day and end-of-summer cruises, meets and concours. It also kicks off the international auto show season with the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Whew.

On the racing front, the ALMS series visits Detroit before packing up and hitting Atlanta for the Petit Le Mans. The Formula 1 circus stops in Italy and then Singapore as the series heads down the home stretch, IndyCar has races scheduled at Detroit and Motegi, Japan, and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races towards the Chase, with action in Atlanta, Richmond, New Hampshire and Dover.

Monterey, Meadow Brook, and Michael, oh my! This August offers plenty of action for all types of car lovers. The Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance launches the month in style, along with the SEMA Show 'n Shine half a continent away in Pasadena. For folks who are going to be near Reno, the annual Hot August Nights show hits the biggest little city in the world this month as well. The biggest events for the Autoblog crew (as well as thousands of others) will be the Woodward Dream Cruise and the week-long classic car fest in Monterey, California, capped off by the world-renowned Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

There's lots of racing action, too, most notably the return of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher to the cockpit for Ferrari in Spain. The world's premier racing series also visits Spa at the end of the month. Meanwhile, ALMS makes stops at Mid-Ohio, Road America and Mosport; IndyCar hits Kentucky, Mid-Ohio, Infineon Raceway and Chicago; and NASCAR fans can look forward to races at Pocono, Watkins Glen, MIS and Bristol.

As we start the second half of 2009, the automotive industry remains in turmoil but the economy is finally showing signs of recovery. And once again, we have a full calendar of events to keep our minds on the positive aspects of our industry. Show season is in full swing so you'll find plenty of concours events, cruise nights, and local shows filling July weekends. In America, Meadowbrook is the star of July, but there are also other interesting events like the GoodGuys Heartland Nationals, Hudson-Essex-Terraplane meet in Pontiac, New England Concours d'Elegance in Vermont, the First Annual Great American Car Show in Massachusetts, Micros on the Monument in Racine, International Bricklin Owners Club Annual Grand National Meet, and the Alfa Romeo Owners Club National Meet in Portland, among others.

There's lots of racing in July, too. Most Formula 1 teams will make a brief stop at Goodwood before resuming their regular racing schedule at the Nürburgring, followed by the Hungarian GP at the end of the month. IndyCar hits Watkins Glen, the Streets of Toronto, and the airport course in Edmonton. NASCAR fans can look forward to races in Daytona, Chicago, and at the Brickyard. ALMS teams can take it easy after the marathon that was the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a two-hour stint at Lime Rock Park.

There will also be plenty of other random racing action in July, with the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Portland Historic Races, Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, Kohler International Challenge with Brian Redman, and the New England Forest Rally. Green car fans can look forward to the Eco-Rally U.S.A. 2009, and bike fans can take in the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix or AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio.

As we approach the half-way point of 2009, the automotive industry is still in turmoil and the economy is just barely showing signs of recovery, but we still have plenty to be happy about. Dozens of concours events, cruise nights, and local shows are being held each and every weekend around the country. There's probably one close to you. Greenwich, Huntington Beach, Los Angeles, and Rodeo Drive top that list of concours in June. There will also be plenty of racing action with another running of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans June 13 and 14. Formula 1 makes stops at Turkey and Silverstone. With the Indianapolis 500 over, IndyCar moves on to Texas, Iowa and Richmond. And NASCAR fans can see action at Pocono, Michigan International Speedway, Infineon and New Hampshire. Speed junkies will also have another go at land speed records when the next El Mirage event takes place June 14.

There will also be some auction action too, with a Bonhams sale at the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance and the Mecum Corvette Auction during Bloomington Gold in St. Charles, Illinois. One of our favorite events of the summer returns this June, the Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show in Chino Hills, CA.
