<br />While the 24 Hours of Le Mans was the swan song for the GT1-class Corvette C6.R, the fellas at Corvette Racing will unveil the next chapter of the story this coming Tuesday, August 4th. According to the crew at <a href="http://www.badboyvettes.com/410">BadBoyVettes.com</a>, that's the day we'll see the new GT2-class Chevy Corvette racer, which will allegedly wear "ZR1-influenced" styling. Beyond that, well, we're waiting along with the rest of you. We can't imagine Corvette Racing would abandon the Jake-emblazoned Velocity Yellow-and-Black livery that has become synonymous with success over the years. They'll need all that mojo and then some in GT2, where the competition is fierce and Porsche and Ferrari rule. And that's fine. Consistent, healthy competition has been sorely lacking for the Vettes, which have essentially just raced each other recent years, so this ought to be fun. The GT2 Vettes spring into real action on August 8, when ALMS visits Mid-Ohio. To the GT2 field: Check your mirrors. They're coming. To the rest of you in readerland: Check your local listings and set those DVRs. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/corvette-racing-gt1-mega-gallery/low/">Corvette Racing GT1 Mega Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/corvette-racing-gt1-mega-gallery/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/corvetteracinggt1_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/corvette-racing-gt1-mega-gallery/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/corvetteracinggt1_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/corvette-racing-gt1-mega-gallery/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/corvetteracinggt1_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/corvette-racing-gt1-mega-gallery/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/corvetteracinggt1_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/corvette-racing-gt1-mega-gallery/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/corvetteracinggt1_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.badboyvettes.com/410">BadBoyVettes.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/01/corvette-racing-gt2-car-to-be-unveiled-on-tuesday/">Corvette Racing GT2 car to be unveiled on Tuesday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 01 Aug 2009 18:06:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a larger image along with more shots of the new GT2 Corvette</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />We <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/01/a-wolf-in-wolfs-clothing-new-corvette-gt2-racer-takes-cues-fro/">recently reported</a> Chevrolet was rumored to be switching from the bespoke wide-body Corvette used in GT1, to a more stock-looking body styled like the ZR1 as it moved into the GT2 class in ALMS. Now, the first few pics of the new Pratt &amp; Miller <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/01/a-wolf-in-wolfs-clothing-new-corvette-gt2-racer-takes-cues-fro/">Corvette C6.R GT2</a> have surfaced courtesy of Teen Kaas at <a href="http://www.americanlemansfans.com/">AmericanLeMansFans.com</a>. Set to challenge the existing front-runner Ferraris, as well as the M3s, Porsches, Viper, Ford GT and Panozes, the ZR1 might be just what the General needs to stay at the head of its class.<br /><br />As you can see from the photos, the hood window is gone, but the car does bear a resemblance to the ZR1 with a few minor tweaks for the track. There's a revised grille in front, a large spoiler out back and a new diffuers underneath, but other than that it looks fairly close to the stock unit. If the hood window remained you'd see a 6.0-liter LS7 this year, which will be replaced by a 500-hp, 5.5-liter race-tuned LS3 for 2010 when the rules change next year.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alms-gt2-corvette/low/">ALMS GT2 Corvette</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alms-gt2-corvette/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/rand_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alms-gt2-corvette/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/rand2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alms-gt2-corvette/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/rand5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.americanlemansfans.com/">AmericanLemansFans</a> via <a href="http://www.badboyvettes.com/349">BadBoy Vettes</a> via <a href="http:// http://jalopnik.com/5210980/new-zr1+bodied-corvette-gt2-racer-spotted-on-track">Jalopnik</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/15/corvette-gt2-c6-r-spotted-in-zr1-body/">Corvette GT2 C6.R spotted in ZR1 body</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 09:01:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small> 2009 Corvette GT1 Championship Edition - </small></strong></em><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Back in February, General Motors <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/19/look-like-the-champ-2009-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/">circulated a few studio shots</a> of a new Chevrolet Corvette GT1 Championship Edition package, but the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/New-York-Auto-Show/">New York Auto Show</a> is the first time we're coming face-to-face with just such an animal.<br /><br />Built up from a standard 4LT coupe or convertible, the GT1 CE is essentially a trim-and-tape tribute package designed to celebrate the C6.R's racing successes. As such, it features a graphics package influenced by the racecar's livery, including the skull "Jake" logo, driver flags, a windshield banner, and so on. There's also a ZR1 "style" rear spoiler and chrome wheels to complete the package, although unfortunately no drivetrain bits from the King Corvette will make the scene.<br /><br />Inside, as you can see in our photographs below, the ebony interior has been done up in yellow stitching, and there's special GT1 embroidery adorning the instrument panel, center console armrest, and seats. <br /><br />As Chevrolet has plans to build just 600 of these limited-edition models, this could well be the closest any of us ever get to driving one. <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2009-chevrolet-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/">New York: 2009 Chevrolet Corvette GT1 Championship Edition</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2009-chevrolet-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/000vettegt1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2009-chevrolet-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/001vettegt1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2009-chevrolet-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/002vettegt1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2009-chevrolet-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/003vettegt1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2009-chevrolet-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/004vettegt1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/">2009 Corvette GT1 Championship Edition</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/thumb800x800_3292760899_731035cdbd_o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/thumb800x800_3293584984_314901cc39_o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-corvette-gt1-championship-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/medium_3293585100_52a6c01b59_o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong style="font-style: italic;"><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Jonathon Ramsey</small></strong><small style="font-style: italic;"><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/08/new-york-chevrolet-corvette-gt1-championship-edition-gets-calle/">New York: Chevrolet Corvette GT1 Championship Edition gets called to the carpet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Apr 2009 16:58:00 EST. The first couple of times Corvette Racing took the GT1 title in the American Le Mans Series, it must have been exciting. But after dominating the class every year since 2001, they're starting to look for a new fight, and the Porsches and Ferraris duking it out in GT2 must have started to look mighty tasty. Aching for a fight, Chevrolet's racing partner Pratt &amp; Miller have started teasing what their latest challenger will look like, and it's pretty badass.<br /><br />For 2009, the Corvette C6.R GT2 will take its cues from the new king of the roadgoing Corvette castle, the all-conquering ZR1. Don't expect a window into the race-engine compartment, but the design promises to look unmistakably like a track-bound version of the supercharged 'Vette flagship. Under the hood in 2009 will be a downsized 6.0-liter LS7 to meet the new ALMS regulations, to be replaced by a 5.5-liter race-tuned LS3 with 500 horsepower for 2010. The rendering above gives us a good idea of what the C6.R GT2 will look like, so F430 and 911 pilots had better get used to it.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.badboyvettes.com/342">BadBoyVettes</a> via <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5193474/new-corvette-gt2-racer-to-feature-zr1+inspired-bodywork">Jalopnik</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/01/a-wolf-in-wolfs-clothing-new-corvette-gt2-racer-takes-cues-fro/">A Wolf in Wolf's Clothing: New Corvette GT2 racer takes cues from ZR1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Apr 2009 18:30:00 EST. <br />Keith Cornett of Corvette Blogger spent last weekend down in Florida at the 12 Hours of Sebring. He was likely one of the few whose attention wasn't solely fixed on the top tier Le Mans P1 class in which the new Audi R15 did battle with Peugeot and Acura. Keith was there for the Corvettes, and this particular race was significant for Corvette Racing. Later this season, Corvette will switch from the GT1 to GT2 class, so this was the final chance for the C6.R to open up a can at Sebring, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/22/audi-r15-wins-debut-at-12-hours-of-sebring/">open a can it did</a>.<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/28/chevy-prices-corvette-competition-sport-package/">Competition Sport</a> is a new model offered by Chevy that celebrates the Corvette's success in racing, and it's more than just a pretty package. Keith got to sample what the Competition Sport has to offer while riding shotgun during a hot lap session at Sebring the day before the big race. His ride was #02 in the series, a fact that was evident to all thanks to the large door graphic that comes on these cars. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/video-new-competition-sport-corvette-footage-shows-car-in-actio/">Follow the jump</a> for two videos that highlight Keith's hot lap in the Competition Sport Corvette and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/28/chevy-prices-corvette-competition-sport-package/">click here</a> for more info on the limited edition cars.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.corvetteblogger.com/index.cfm/2009/3/23/PICS-First-Look-The-2009-Competition-Sport-Corvette">Corvette Blogger</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/video-new-competition-sport-corvette-footage-shows-car-in-actio/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: New Competition Sport Corvette footage shows car in action at Sebring </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/video-new-competition-sport-corvette-footage-shows-car-in-actio/">VIDEO: New Competition Sport Corvette footage shows car in action at Sebring </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 23 Mar 2009 14:29:00 EST. <p>GT1-class racing is one of the most hotly contested in Europe, with cars like the Aston Martin DBR9 and Maserati MC12 competing among others for top honors in the Le Mans Series and FIA GT Championship. Here in the American Le Mans Series, however, officials are considering the possibility that they'll have to shut down the class altogether.</p>
<p>This season, the Corvettes have had the category all to themselves, which has made the class uninteresting, with predictable outcomes. Bell Motorsports announced their intention to run <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/30/aston-martin-to-return-to-alms-gt1-in-2008-with-bell-motorsports/">Aston Martins to compete with the Corvettes for GT1 victory</a>, but that may be another case of too little too late. Itching for a good fight, GM is reportedly dropping down to the paradoxically more competitive GT2 series. Not anxious to run another season of an empty GT1 roster, ALMS could very well cut the class out altogether.</p>

Take BadBoyVettes.com, for example. Dedicated to covering and rooting for Corvette Racing, this band of supporters has already achieved a great deal. The Bad Boy Vettes skull logo serves as Corvette Racing's unofficial mascot, and it has adorned the race cars' b-pillars since the 2005 24 Hours of Le Mans. That in itself is cool beyond description, but it's nothing compared to what the BBV crew got Corvette Racing to agree to for the final round of the ALMS at Laguna Seca the weekend of October 20. <br /><br />Bad Boy Vettes has convinced Corvette Racing to let it design the race livery for the pair of C6.Rs that weekend. The #4 car will be revealed at a <a href="http://www.badboyvettes.com/bbvparty">party on October 17th</a>, and in the image above, you can catch a glimpse of the paint scheme under the spray cans. As if the C6.Rs weren't badass enough to begin with, now they're going to be adorned with giant skulls. Evil FTW!<br /><br />Conversely, at Autoblog Decentralized World Headquarters, we have had no say whatsoever in the paint scheme of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/19/wrenching-lemons-late-nights-and-flying-sparks/">LeMons entry</a> Damon's preparing. <br /><br />[Source: Bad Boy Vettes]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/10/break-out-the-krylon-bad-boy-vettes-designing-c6-r-livery-for-s/">Break out the Krylon: Bad Boy Vettes designing C6.R livery for season-ender at Laguna Seca</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 10 Oct 2007 15:57:00 EST. Ron Fellows, making his final Sebring appearance as one of the #3 car's co-drivers, has a similarly liveried <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/01/chicago-preview-ron-fellows-alms-gt1-champion-corvette-z06/">limited-production Corvette Z06</a> named for him. The change to the race car is an obvious tie-in to the production machine, as it's identical in scheme right down to the red fender stripes.<br /><br />GM points out that this is the first time since Le Mans 2003 that one of Corvette Racing's cars have run in a color other than yellow. Their press release does <em>not</em> point out that 2003 was the year that the Vettes, in their navy blue anniversary livery, were bested by Prodrive's 550 Maranello at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As of Sebring's 10-hour mark, it looked as if running in a non-yellow color might not the luckiest thing for the C6.R. The O'Connell/Magnussen/Fellows #3 car was running second in GT1 behind the still-yellow #4. The #3 led early in the race, however, and the cars were on the same lap as of the <a href="http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=245992&amp;FS=ALMS-LEMANS">last posted standings</a>, so there's still time left for it go out and bust that color jinx.<br /><br /><strong>UPDATE:</strong> #4 car wins GT1 (7th overall), followed by the #3 (8th overall). Now the <a href="http://www.corvetteracing.com/history/2006releases/general/racing7.shtml">postseason awards</a> are beginning to pile up as well. <a href="http://www.ronfellows.com/default.asp">Ron Fellows</a>, who co-drives the #3 C6.R with Johnny O'Connell, won his third straight ALMS Driver of the Year award, while his crew chief, Dan Binks was recognized for his efforts and named GT1 Crew Chief of the Year.<br /><br />And it doesn't end there. This week in Germany, the heart of the C6.R, it's LS7.R motor, was recognized as <a href="http://www.americanlemans.com/News/Article.aspx?ID=2724">Global Motorsport Engine of the Year</a> by a jury of 50 race engine engineers. When you consider the breadth of global motorsport and the number of outstanding engines competing on circuits week in and week out, the award becomes even more significant. You don't even need to leave ALMS to find <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/23/audi-r10-completes-perfect-alms-season-at-laguna-sec/">another high-profile powerplant</a> that garnered quite a few headlines of its own this past season. <br /><br />The C6.R's relentless success and reliability stems largely from the excellence of the LS7.R that lives under its long hood -- a trait that is matched or exceeded by the dedication of its drivers and crew. If history is any indication, we can expect more of the same come March when the 2007 season kicks off at Sebring.<br /><br />[Source: ALMS]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/11/13/corvette-racings-ls7-r-named-race-engine-of-the-year/">Corvette Racing's LS7.R named Race Engine of the Year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Nov 2006 07:58:00 EST. Automobile Magazine weighs in with its two cents, stating that the so-called "Blue Devil" will actually carry the significantly less satanic moniker of Z07 - or maybe Z06.R (with the "R" presumably standing for "Really hazardous to your driving record"). That seems somewhat more clumsy than the Sting Ray or Super Sport/SS names that we've heard tossed around, but would fit in with GM's long history of three-digit alphanumeric codes.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/27/shots-snapped-of-blue-devil-engine/">650 HP 6.2L supercharged GenIV V8</a> looks to be housed under a huge air duct, which is likely required by the addition of a air-to-water intercooler unit. Serious speed requires the shedding of serious heat, and so the car has also grown vents along the top and rear of the front fenders, and a NACA duct has appeared on the top of the rear quarter panels. Hit the link to see the full spy shot - we're anxious to hear what you think, as we're already in love. </p>
<p>The supercar is said to be on its way in 2008 as a 2009 model (giving us two more years to make inaccurate predictions), and will carry a price tag of around $100K. Given the Z06's superlative performance, we don't doubt for a moment that the Z07 will provide the biggest bang for the buck in its market segment. </p>
