<br />
Following <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/13/2014-chevrolet-corvette-c7-stingray-everything-there-is-to-know/">yesterday's introduction</a> of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/corvette/">C7 Corvette</a> that shows the car's future, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/">Chevrolet</a> has released a slew of images celebrating 60 years of the car's past. First introduced in 1953, the Corvette has evolved into a global sports car that is likely to be the star of this year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/detroit-auto-show/">Detroit Auto Show</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/gm/">General Motors</a> has dug into its photo vault to give us a look at the Corvette starting with the C1 Corvette from 1953 right through the most powerful 'Vette ever, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/zr1/">C6 ZR1</a>. Be sure to check out the gallery of classic Corvettes, and then check out our <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/13/2014-chevrolet-corvette-c7-stingray-everything-there-is-to-know/">coverage of the new C7</a>. General Motors has also supplied a press release posted <a href="/2013/01/13/celebrate-60-years-of-corvette-by-checking-out-these-historical/#continued">after the jump</a> to give more information about each generation of the iconic coupe.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/14/celebrate-60-years-of-corvette-by-checking-out-these-historical/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Celebrate 60 years of Corvette by checking out these historical images</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/14/celebrate-60-years-of-corvette-by-checking-out-these-historical/">Celebrate 60 years of Corvette by checking out these historical images</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 14 Jan 2013 08:54:00 EST. <br />
Here's a question to ponder: If it can outrun a C5 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/corvette/">Chevrolet Corvette</a> off the line, can we even call it a <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/skateboard/">skateboard</a> anymore?<br />
<br />
While we're intrigued by this <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/898206173/gnarboards-gnarly-electric-skateboards?ref=live">Kickstarter project</a> from <a href="http://www.gnarboards.com/">Gnarboards</a>, we'll admit to having no idea what we'd do with an electric skateboard that can do 0-28 miles per hour in under two seconds. We do, however, know exactly what we'd do with that C5 'vert in the video: Remove those <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/z06/">Z06</a> brake ducts and those terrible wheels.<br />
<br />
<a href="/2012/08/28/watch-this-unlikely-drag-race-between-a-corvette-and-an-electric/#continued">Scroll down</a> to watch the electric skateboard drag race the 'Vette.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/08/28/watch-this-unlikely-drag-race-between-a-corvette-and-an-electric/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch this unlikely drag race between a Corvette and an electric skateboard</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/08/28/watch-this-unlikely-drag-race-between-a-corvette-and-an-electric/">Watch this unlikely drag race between a Corvette and an electric skateboard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 28 Aug 2012 19:59:00 EST. <br />
If you saw a C5 <a href="http://autoblog.com/model/corvette">Corvette</a> pulled up next to a C6 Corvette at a stop light, would you assume that a drag race would follow? And which vehicle would win? We'd have our money on the C6 Vette, but then again, the C5 owner may have a bit extra under the hood.<br />
<br />
While on his way home from picking up the family's Thanksgiving turkey last week, one astute driver noticed just such a scenario play out in front of his eyes, and he was smart enough to press the record button on his camera phone. Unfortunately, the Vette owners weren't smart enough to know that public drag racing is always a bad idea, even on the day before Thanksgiving.<br />
<br />
As it turns out, the C5 did have the juice to keep up with the C6, but it didn't have very good traction. <a href="/2011/11/28/turkey-day-was-terrible-for-these-two-corvette-owners/#continued">Follow the jump</a> to watch a Bowtie battle for the ages turn into one very expensive insurance claim. With joggers, bikers and kids within a stone's throw of the road, this was a really stupid move, and the drivers are lucky only their cars - and egos - were damaged.<br />
<br />
<strong> NOTE:</strong> <em>There is some swearing in the video, so you may want to turn down the volume.</em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/28/turkey-day-was-terrible-for-these-two-corvette-owners/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Turkey Day was terrible for these two Corvette owners</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/28/turkey-day-was-terrible-for-these-two-corvette-owners/">Turkey Day was terrible for these two Corvette owners</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 28 Nov 2011 12:32:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><small>C5 Corvette based Saleen S7 replica - click above image for hi-res gallery</small></em></strong></div>
<br />
Steve Saleen's Saleen S7 is a totally bespoke, hand built superduper hypercar that in twin-turbo, 750 horsepower, 700 pound-feet of torque form could go about 250 mph. And it was capable of generating enough downforce to (theoretically) drive <em>upside down</em>. In competition, the S7R has been one of the most dominant vehicles ever fielded, having been "raced in over 264 events, with 218 Top Tens, 166 Podiums, 105 Wins, 86 Poles, 78 Fastest Laps and 9 GT Championships." Price when new was about $600,000, give or take. <br />
<br />
Which makes the above car all the more special. Sayeth the seller, "We thought long and hard as to what chassis we would use for our replica. First of all we knew the 80's [sic] Fiero was not an option. its [sic] too old, underpowered, and not a safe frame." Oh man - the replica world has really changed if a Pontiac Fiero chassis is not good enough. But the auctioneer does inadvertently raise a good point, as the S7 is in fact a mid-engined car, and you just got to have that if you're building a replica, don't you? Apparently not.<br />
<br />
"So we went with a C5 Corvette chassis. It offers all the driving comforts, with great brakes, Power, and a super strong frame. and we could retail the car for a reasonable price." But not only is it Chevrolet Corvette based, they made it a roadster! See, all those boring old S7s were stuffy mid-engined hardtops - this is the world's first and only front-engined roadster S7. Replica. We've got to say we're a little amazed there are only two bids. <br />
<br />
Oh wait, no - we said that wrong. What we meant is that we're a little amazed there <em>are</em> two bids. Currently, the "replica" is sitting at $20,100 and <strike>humorously</strike> oddly, the reserve has not been met. Did we mention that it's an automatic? Also, dude, your check engine light is on. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/26/ebay-find-of-the-day-chevrolet-c5-corvette-based-saleen-s7-repl/">Videos after the jump</a>. Happy bidding!<br />

Corvette Racing HQ), and besides building the Speed GT Cadillac CTS-V, Pontiac GTO.R &amp; GXP.R, C5-R and C6.R ALMS GT1 Corvettes, the company also makes the ZR1-rivaling <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/05/christmas-comes-early-pratt-and-miller-confirm-production-of-corv/">C6RS</a> road car. During his tour of the facilities, Mike spotted a wind tunnel model of an unfamiliar race car. As it turns out, the model was the car that P&amp;M had envisioned for Corvette's attack on Le Mans, or rather, a scale model version of that car. As Mike puts it:<br /><blockquote>
<div align="left"><em>"Pratt &amp; Miller had been working on an LMP1 Corvette, due to race in the American Le Mans Series and at the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans. The ACO's proposed LMP1 EVO regulations (then due to go into effect in 2010 or 2011) looked very appealing to GM as it'd give them a way to fight for overall victories and do it with a car that looked decidedly like a Corvette... Due to the economy, regulation changes, and the struggles at GM, this car will unfortunately probably never be anything more than a wind tunnel model."</em><br /></div>
</blockquote>
<div align="left">It's really a stunning model, with just enough Corvette DNA in the styling to make it recognizable as America's preeminent sports car. To think that this might have mounted an assault on Le Mans makes us long for a time not so long ago when the global economic condition was a lot more favorable to racing and the auto industry in general. Heck, we hope General Motors keeps the model around when plans for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/06/gm-ceo-says-future-of-corvette-secure/">C7</a> get into high gear. <em>Thanks for the inside scoop, Mike!</em><br /></div>

In addition to the Grand Sport and its scorching performance, the notable changes include, among other things, launch control as standard on all manual transmission models, Performance Traction Management on the ZR1, being able to order any Corvette in any color, and a cashmere interior package available on the Z06 and ZR1. <br /><br />The event also featured presentations on the Grand Sport's technical aspects and the launch control, both of which you can view videos of after the jump. The launch control is practically brainless: put your Vette in competitive mode, depress the clutch, put the throttle pedal to the floor and it will hold a predetermined RPM depending on your particular engine. Then when you pop the clutch, it will monitor torque at 100 times per second to provide the best traction. All without voiding your warranty. Follow the jump to see the videos.<br /><br />[Source: Corvette Blogger]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/28/charting-the-changes-for-chevrolets-2010-corvette-including-gr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Charting the changes for Chevrolet's 2010 Corvette, including Grand Sport [w/VIDEOS]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/28/charting-the-changes-for-chevrolets-2010-corvette-including-gr/">Charting the changes for Chevrolet's 2010 Corvette, including Grand Sport [w/VIDEOS]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 28 Apr 2009 11:30:00 EST. <p>People love older classic cars because of their excellent craftsmanship and timeless styling. Others prefer modern cars for their greatly enhanced safety, engineering and reliability. What about having their cake and eating it too with the benefits of both the old and new? Sounds great, but there are a few people out there who can afford to manage it. For those who can, Classic Reflection Coachworks (CRC) is there to build what its customers desire. In this particular case, we're looking at Corvettes, America's only classic sportscar. By classic, we mean that it's been built since the early '50s and has gone through six easily identifiable generations. One of those classic generations can be replicated on a much newer C5 chassis by CRC, and we've got <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/classic-reflection-corvettes/556127/full/">lots of photos</a> of the resulting transformation. Along the way, the original fiberglass body is replaced with a new carbon fiber shell, which was designed to look similar to a 1962 Vette. The cars you see in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/classic-reflection-corvettes/556127/full/">these photos</a> belong to Keith Loyd from Scottsdale, Arizona. The black car <a href="http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/search/carlist_Details.aspx?&amp;In_LotNumber=1275.1">will be auctioned</a> off in a primetime spot at the upcoming <a href="http://www.barrett-jackson.com/">Barret-Jackson</a> auction, so if you belong to that rarefied group who will be bidding there, keep your eyes peeled for that.</p>

The automaker is now planning to take the wraps off the real thing at a press event scheduled for the 18th of next month.<br /><br />The car won't officially go on sale, however, until its world debut, most likely at the Brussels auto show in January. Citroen will release both a C5 sedan and wagon, but there's no word on whether a convertible version like the concept car will enter production. According to an inside source, product planners are conducting market research for an upmarket convertible that, if given the go ahead, could be on sale in 12 months time.<br /><br />Some new technologies rumored to make it into the new C5 include a new traction control system, start-stop features and brake-energy regeneration. There could even be the brand's traditional hydro-pneumatic suspension or possibly a new air suspension set-up.<br /><br />[Source: Automotive News - subs. req'd]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept">Citroen C5 Airscape Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/21/citroen-to-unveil-new-c5-next-month/">Citroen to unveil new C5 next month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 21 Sep 2007 12:33:00 EST. But it <em>is </em>pretty, and although we'll never see it Stateside, it still may warrant a few clicks of your mouse to view the gallery below. We're particularly fond of the handles that integrate into the chrome accents of the doors and the 70s-chic seats. And while the canvas material covering the A-pillars is a nice touch to integrate with the soft top, we'd be worried about how they'll hold up after a few too many car washes.<br /><br />We've got the entire press release on the Citro&euml;n C5 Airscape in our <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/20/frankfurt-preview-citroen-c5-airscape-full-details-hi-res-gal/">previous post</a>, and our gallery has the goods below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept">Citroen C5 Airscape Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/12/frankfurt-2007-citroen-c5-airscape-oh-that-was-here/">Frankfurt 2007: Citroën C5 Airscape - Oh, that was here?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 12 Sep 2007 14:55:00 EST. The C5 Airscape will actually shade its occupants with a folding hard top made out of lightweight, strong and certainly expensive carbon fiber. <br /><br />Billed as an "executive cabriolet", the C5 Airscape is a four-seat hard-top convertible with expressive styling that looks less like a concept and more like a production ready prototype. Its length is accentuated by a sharp crease running the vehicle's length that also incorporates a strip of chrome acting as a door handle for both sets of doors. The cabin is covered in rich looking Chocolate Brown leather and reportedly features just as many chrome accents as the exterior, though Citro&euml;n didn't provide any interior shots. <br /><br />The concept rides on unique 19-inch alloy wheels that are turned by a 2.7LHDi V6 engine producing 208bhp and augmented by what Citroen calls an 'UrbanHybrid' system. Much like the mild hybrid system used by GM, Citro&euml;n's set up incorporates a reversible alternator-starter and super capacitors that can both power accessory systems like the A/C and stereo, as well as give the diesel engine a shot of extra torque when needed. <br /><br />The C5 Airscape will officially debut in Frankfurt next month and gives us a preview of the new C5 sedan, which we expect to meet next March in Geneva.<br /><br />[Source: Citro&euml;n]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept">Citroen C5 Airscape Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/citro-n-c5-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/citroen_airscape---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/20/frankfurt-preview-citroen-c5-airscape-full-details-hi-res-gal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Frankfurt Preview: Citroën C5 Airscape - full details, hi-res gallery</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/20/frankfurt-preview-citroen-c5-airscape-full-details-hi-res-gal/">Frankfurt Preview: Citroën C5 Airscape - full details, hi-res gallery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 20 Aug 2007 17:01:00 EST. The pictures of the C-Airscape look authentic enough, with a highly stylized front clip, expansive windshield and what we're assuming is a soft-top tucked beneath a toneau cover. We're particularly partial to the swage-line that incorporates the door handles into one elongated piece of chrome.<br /><br />The cabrio version will likely foretell the future of the C5 sedan, which is expected to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.<br /><br />[Source: Planete-Citroen via <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2007/08/citroen-c-airscape-2008-c5-based.html">Carscoop</a>]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-pics-of-citroen-c-airscape-concept">Leaked pics of Citroen C-Airscape concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-pics-of-citroen-c-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/citroen_c_airscape_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-pics-of-citroen-c-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/citroen_c_airscape_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-pics-of-citroen-c-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/citroen_c_airscape_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-pics-of-citroen-c-airscape-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/citroen_c_airscape_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/17/leaked-citroen-c-airscape-concept-bound-for-frankfurt/">Leaked! <p>April 26-28, 2007, hundreds of Corvette owners flocked to the <a href="http://www.corvettemuseum.com/">National Corvette Museum</a> in Bowling Green Kentucky. The occasion was the C5-C6 Bash, a festival celebrating the latest two versions of the American sports car that started it all. Corvette-ifosi were also there to witness the unveiling of the 2008 Corvette and register their approval or approbation. When not ogling the new car or any of the hundreds of other souped up Corvettes that made the journey, Bash-goers could wander the halls and pay homage to Zora Arkus-Duntov's remains, which are kept behind glass in a wall in the museum. And that's only the beginning. <br /></p>

A test mule was just caught testing on the highway in France, giving a face to the long list of details already known about the upcoming Citroen.
<p>The C5 will be underpinned by an all-new platform with a longer wheelbase than the model it replaces. That means more room for Jacques and Jeanne plus extra luggage space so you can fit in those super-long baguettes. Power comes from a range of engines including Citroen's new 173-hp 2.2-liter HDI and 2.7-liter V6 diesel co-developed with Ford, as well as a whole menu of conventional gasoline engines with a 3-liter V6 leading the charge up the Bastille. The front wheels are driven through a choice of manual, automatic or semi-automatic transmissions while the new car will ride on a cushy new air suspension.</p>
