Following yesterday's introduction of the C7 Corvette that shows the car's future, Chevrolet has released a slew of images celebrating 60 years of the car's past. First introduced in 1953, the Corvette has evolved into a global sports car that is likely to be the star of this year's Detroit Auto Show.

General Motors has dug into its photo vault to give us a look at the Corvette starting with the C1 Corvette from 1953 right through the most powerful 'Vette ever, the C6 ZR1. Be sure to check out the gallery of classic Corvettes, and then check out our coverage of the new C7. General Motors has also supplied a press release posted after the jump to give more information about each generation of the iconic coupe.
Continue reading Celebrate 60 years of Corvette by checking out these historical images

Celebrate 60 years of Corvette by checking out these historical images originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 14 Jan 2013 08:54:00 EST.
French automakers Citroen and Peugeot are flip sides of the same coin. So with few exceptions, when one introduces a new product, you can expect the other to follow with a version of its own.

That's what we have here with the new Citroen C-Elysée, a rebadged version of the 301 sedan that sister company Peugeot recently announced for developing markets. The 72-horsepower sedan will be manufactured in Spain and marketed in places like Central Europe, Turkey and North Africa by year's end.

Joining the C-Elysee is the new C4 L, a sedan version of Citroen's mainstream hatchback. With a larger rear seating area and a proper trunk, the C4 L will offer three engines ranging from 150 to 170 horsepower mated to a six-speed transmission. The first production vehicle to be penned at the company's new design studio in Shanghai, the C4 L is targeted at the Russian and Chinese markets and will be produced locally in both countries.
Continue reading Citroen launches C4 L and C-Elysée sedans for emerging markets

Citroen launches C4 L and C-Elysée sedans for emerging markets originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 24 Jun 2012 09:20:00 EST.
This handsome little crossover is the 2012 Citroën C4 Aircross, and it's ready to boldly go where every other CUV has gone before. Like the vast majority of C-segment-based, high-riding crossovers, the C4 Aircross is, to quote associate editor Zach Bowman, more "mall-terrain" than all-terrain.

There's nothing wrong with that, though, especially for European buyers who need to tackle the occasional dirt road or snow-covered street. Based on the plucky C4 hatchback, the Aircross is available in either front- or all-wheel-drive configurations, powered by a variety of gasoline and diesel engines ranging from 110 to 150 horsepower. It's sort of like a Ford <strike>Escape</strike> Kuga but with a funky French face.

See the C4 Aircross for yourself in our attached high-res image galleries, and if you're keen to read the full specs, see below for Citroën's press blast.
Continue reading 2012 Citroën C4 Aircross is ready for soft-roading action

2012 Citroën C4 Aircross is ready for soft-roading action originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 07 Mar 2012 18:59:00 EST.
Shortly after launching its new C4 hatchback, Citroën upsized it and took it upscale in the form of the DS4. For European buyers intrigued by crossover but not looking for the premium accoutrements, now there's the C4 Aircross.

Like the DS4, the C4 Aircross looks better suited to tackling a wet cobblestone street in Paris than a mountain pass through the French alps. Powertrain choices include a variety of gasoline and diesel engines, ranging from 110 horsepower up to 150, with front- or all-wheel drive. The 18-inch wheels and rear lights, draw their inspiration from the Hypnos concept car, while LED running lights are integrated into the air apertures up front.

Five occupants will also be able to appreciate the panoramic glass sunroof when the model launches in Europe early next year, but you can get the details now in the press release after the jump and eyeball the image gallery for a closer look.
Continue reading Citroën jacks it up with new C4 Aircross

Citroën jacks it up with new C4 Aircross originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 02 Oct 2011 14:03:00 EST.
You'd think a term like "all new" would be fairly absolute. But not when it comes to new cars. Take the new Citroën C4, for example. The French automaker calls it "all new". But it's still based on the platform of the outgoing model. That said, the sheetmetal is fresh, the dimensions have grown some and the hatch is packed with all manner of gizmos, solidifying the chevron brand's place as a technological powerhouse.

What sort of tech are we talking about? How about adaptive headlights, lane departure and blind-spot warning systems, user-changeable backlighting in the cabin (along with ringtone-style chimes and alerts) and a new system called eTouch which monitors driving patterns and offers suggestions on how to improve fuel economy. Engine options will likely remain the same, with the addition of the new e-HDi hybrid diesel/electric drivetrain, and we'll be looking for the new C4 to debut in Paris this Fall before sales begin overseas early next year.

The three-door model isn't expected to continue into the new generation, leaving the five-door to go it alone against the likes of the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf. The DS4 is expected to be based on this model, but as a crossover it'll be further differentiated than the narrow gap between the smaller C3 and DS3 hatchbacks. Details in the press release after the jump, with initial images in the gallery below.
Anyone with a '97-'09 Vette can order the wheels in paired sizes in Chrome, Hyper Silver, Painted Black, and Black Chrome. They're $500 per pair and will ship in the New Year. Could be worth the wait for the Vette owner who (thinks he or she) has everything.
Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2010 New Look Citroen C4 and robot

We often wonder why French wine, fashion and architecture make total sense to us, yet French commercials often make us go "Um, ok, all right...." Citroen's C4 dancing robot first appeared back in 2004 -- well before Optimus Prime and crew teamed up with film director Michael Bay -- and since then he's done four more commercials to showcase the car that is "alive with technology."

With this latest clip, make that "staying alive with technology." Roaming the streets of New York, he's kitted out in chrome teeth and a glitter beret, jiving out to the Bee Gees while he performs style checks in any mirrored surface and poses for pictures. We have to admit his dance moves are hot, but Ironhide would probably shoot him if given the chance.

As for his alter ego, the New Look Citroen C4, it gets a grille, curvier hood and headlight treatment to match the C5. In back, transparent crystal taillamps replace the previous units. Inside, Citroen's latest NaviDrive has a 7-inch translucent screen pre-programmed for all of Europe. Two new engines, developed with BMW, will provide the car with 120 hp or 150 hp. Most intriguing, the car comes with an integrated, scented air freshener -- because all that dancing can make a robot sweat. Watch the new commercial for yourself after the jump.

Gallery: New Look Citroen C4 and Robot

[Source: YouTube]
Continue reading VIDEO: New Citroen C4 actually a dancing robot

VIDEO: New Citroen C4 actually a dancing robot originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 18 Sep 2008 15:59:00 EST. Porsche has followed up the debut of its freshened 997 rear-wheel-drive range with the introductions of the all-wheel-drive 2009 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S. Visually, the C4 and C4S are immediately distinguishable from their 2WD counterparts via the red reflector strip spanning the width between the taillamps. That's a nice touch that brings back some fond memories of the 911s of our youth. The C4's rear bodywork is also wider than that of the 2WD cars. Up front, you'll find the same schnoz introduced a couple of weeks ago.

As with the Carrera and Carrera S, the C4 range also gets the new, direct-injected engines and the optional seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) twin-clutch gearbox. Power is up, and so is efficiency, while emissions output goes down. The Carrera 4's 3.6L flat six makes a stout 345 horses, and the step-up Carrera 4S pumps out 385 ponies from its 3.8. It's not just the engine and tranny that are new -- the previous car's all-wheel-drive system has now been replaced by Porsche Traction Management, which trickles down to the C4 from the mighty 911 Turbo. Want to scoff at lousy weather and still drive a 911? Come October (in Europe) your new ride will be waiting.

Gallery: 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S

[Source: Porsche]
Continue reading Porsche unveils 2009 911 Carrera 4 and 4S

Porsche unveils 2009 911 Carrera 4 and 4S originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 08:00:00 EST. Renault recently launched its BioEthanol Megane hatchback, and now Citroën has unveiled is entry, the C4 BioFlex, which will go on sale in France next month. When it arrives, the stylish 5-door will be priced identically to its gasoline-only stablemates and will benefit from the same trim levels, as well.

Since Citroën already sells flex-fuel vehicles in Brazil, it didn't have to go to great lengths to source the powerplant in the C4 BioFlex. The 1.6L engine is imported from the Ethanol-happy South American country and makes 110 horsepower and 112 lb-ft of torque when run on E85 compared to 107 HP/108 lb-ft on gasoline. Performance when driven on gasoline only is said to be no different than what's experienced in the C4 1.6i 16V petrol-engined car. As is the case with other flexible-fuel vehicles, the C4 BioFlex can be operated on any fuel blend containing up to 85% Ethanol. It does consume more fuel than the gas-only car (24 mpg vs. 33 mpg), but Citroën claims that it's ultimately cheaper to run because of the price difference between E85 and gasoline.

Pricing has been set at €18,650 for the Pack trim, €20,000 for the Ambiance trim, and €22,140 for the Exclusive model.

[Source: Citroën]

Gallery: Citroen C4 BioFlex

Citroën introducing C4 BioFlex in Europe originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 20 Aug 2007 16:31:00 EST.
There's smug satisfaction and then there's smug satisfaction. And the folks over at Citroen Sport are enjoying some serious smug satisfaction after taking a brilliant 1-2 finish in the Monte Carlo Rally. Taking first AND second is enough to make any team happy, but to compound that, this was the first race for Citroen's factory rally team since returning to the World Rally Championship, and the first race for their shiny new baby, the Citroen C4 WRC.

First place was taken by three-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb and his co-pilot Daniel Elena. To make the victory even sweeter, Loeb was fresh back at the wheel after recovering from a broken arm. Claiming the checkered flag at Monte Carlo set a new record for Loeb as his 29th career rally win. This was also the fourth time Loeb won in Monte Carlo, tying the record shared by rally legends Sandro Munari, Walter Rohrl and Tommi Makinen.

The second Citroen factory team driven by Dani Sordo took second place behind Loeb and ahead of Marcos Gronholm's Ford Focus. Not a bad day for Citroen and for Loeb, who are off to a great start to claim another championship.

That's not the reader's name, mind you, its the car's. Lauren is an '85 Corvette, and we think that she's a nice example of the C4. Reader j3studio picked up the car in 2004 and has been restoring her ever since. So far, the Vette's gotten some paint work, a new exhaust system, a new set of Bilstein shocks, fresh tires, and an assortment of other small fixes.

Lauren's been judged as being "Top Flight" by the National Corvette Restorer's Society (NCRS) and is driven at least once a week as long as there's no snow or salt on the road. She currently has around 57,000 miles on the odometer. J3studio is trying to keep this 'Vette as original as possible, and in her stock form she's loaded up with the Z51 suspension, performance axle, Delco-Bose stereo (which still works fine), and leather seating with power adjustments for the driver. Under the hood, she sports GM's 5.7L V8 with Tuned Port Injection (this was the first year of the TPI V8, according to the owner) , which makes 230 horsepower and was capable of bringing the car up to a top speed of 150 mph.

Sadly, j3studio didn't include an interior photo, as we'd have loved to include a shot of the car's full-digital dashboard for old times' sake. That part of the car is quintessentially 80s, and people apparently think the same of the its light metallic blue finish. They called it "very 80s" enough times that the owner turned that into a vanity plate to celebrate the car's 21'st birthday. It may be very 80s, but it's also very nice, and worthy of this week's final Reader Ride of the Day.

UPDATE - j3studio has forwarded us a shot of the dash, and we've added it after the jump!

Follow the jump for more pictures and instructions on how to submit your car.
Continue reading RR of the Day - 1985 Chevy Corvette

RR of the Day - 1985 Chevy Corvette originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 22 Dec 2006 08:18:00 EST.
Capitalizing on their participation in rally racing has emerged as the marketing ploy du jour for carmakers. Far be it for us to complain when that nets us exciting new hot models from Japanese manufacturers like Subaru and Mitsubishi, but their French compatriots just don't seem to know how to translate racing prowess to road cars. Case in point, the all-show-no-go "by LOEB" Special Series hatchbacks from Citroen.

Parent company PSA says it's released the special editions to honor their all-star driver Sebastien Loeb, but this strikes us as just as big a disgrace to an esteemed racing name as the (thankfully departed) Fiat Stilo Michael Schumacher Edition.

The "special" editions start with the C4 coupe and C2, but badge engineers didn't go anywhere near the engine bay. All the changes are purely cosmetic. According to Citroen, "The C4 by LOEB offers drivers a harmonious blend of sporting passion and day-to-day driving pleasure." That should tip you off, because racing beasts like the Subie STi and Mitsu Evo are anything but harmonious.

Both the C2 and C4 by LOEB are available (overseas only, thankfully) in red or black. They both get rear spoilers, upgraded wheels and special badging to let everyone know the driver's a poser. Inside surfaces are all black with red trim: the steering wheel and shift knobs are black leather with red top-stitching, the seats are black fabric with red trim, little red chevrons are embroidered all over the place, and are complimented by select aluminum accents.

Poor Sebastien. You'd think after winning the WRC title three times, his name would be gracing something with a bit more bite.

First, it's just plain easier to get a vehicle certified for sale in Canada than it is in the U.S., what with the whole National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Environmental Protection Agency breathing down your neck. Canada has equivalent government agencies and standards, but they're not as difficult to please as our own. Second, Canada is developing new auto emissions laws for 2010 that could make Citroën's Euro-market diesel engines very attractive, assuming the new rules favor lower greenhouse gas emissions rather than reducing nitrogen-oxide production. Finally, there's Quebec, the bastion of Franco culture in Canada that accounts for 23 percent of all vehicle purchases there. Citroën should expect a particularly warm welcome in its home away from home of Quebec.

[Source: Ward's Auto]
Citroën may sell cars in Canada, eh originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 06 Oct 2006 13:29:00 EST.
Citroën unveiled their new minivan (MPV in European parlance) at the Paris show. The C4 Picasso joins (rather than replacing) the long-in-the-tooth Xsara Picasso, as well as the larger C8, in the Citroën line-up, and will start selling in France next month and other markets in the next quarter.

The C4 Picasso applies what Citroën calls the "visiospace" design philosophy that gives the spacious family-hauler enhanced visibility through such features as a wide-angle (read: expensive to replace) panoramic windshield and class-leading interior volume.

Citroën also boats high-quality-feel interior materials on the new MPV, using chrome and piano-black accents and high-quality plastics. Two gasoline engines (1.8 with 127 hp and 2.0 with 143) and two diesels (110hp and 138hp HDi units with particulate filters) are offered, driving through a new available 6-speed electronic gearbox.

It joins the smaller Xsara Picasso and larger C8 to give the French automaker a 3-car MPV lineup. Its formal debut will take place at the Paris Motor Show next month.

Competing against similar vehicles like the Ford S-Max and Renault Grand Scenic, the C4 Picasso is a very stylish and innovative entrant in segment. Appealing lines, tasteful front and rear-end treatments and a flowing greenhouse set the tone for the car's exterior. It's likely to win people over on looks alone, but in case that's not enough, the interior should seal the deal.

Obviously, the seven seats can be reconfigured in a number of ways. That's expected. The big surprise is the radically different dash panel layout. All the major controls the driver needs have been relocated to the steering wheel, which we show in detail after the jump. The dash is almost fully devoid of buttons as a result, save for a few located underneath the main NAV/info/gauge displays. Driver and passenger get their own HVAC controls, which are pushed out to the two far corners.

(Continues after the jump. Pics, press release also follow)

[Source: Citroën]
Continue reading Citroën C4 Picasso: People-mover with pizazz

Citroën C4 Picasso: People-mover with pizazz originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 04 Aug 2006 13:25:00 EST.

China loves its sedans. The exploding market favors the three-box shape to the tune of 80-percent market share, soit isn't surprising that Citroen has grafted a trunk to its C4 in order tocurry favor.

As seen here, the C-Triomphe is a lengthened C4 with the wheelbase extended, lending the car a much more formallook than the dynamic coupe and five-door bodystyles already in circulation. Production commences this summer at theautomaker's local plant in Wuhan, built in 1997.

Citroen enjoyed sales of 100,000 units in China last year, a 34-percent increase. But the upside to China isstartling-- in 2001, all of China purchased 717,000 cars. In 2005? 3,300,0000-- so needless to say, the French carmakercan't graft those boots on fast enough.
