2010 Volvo S60 - Click above for high-res image gallery

A company's image can be a burden and a blessing. Volvo, for example, remains keen on ditching its image for boxy, lackluster automobiles, but it's eager to capitalize on its reputation for safety. With its sale from Ford's empire looming on the horizon, the Swedish automaker has been hard at work to spruce up its image, and this is the latest result.

Though predictably toned down for public consumption, the production-ready Volvo S60 sedan bears close resemblance to the stunning S60 Concept that debuted at the Detroit Auto Show nearly a year ago. Gone are the suicide rear doors and the flashy panoramic roof, and the shape of the headlights have been toned down just a touch, but the coupe-like roofline and the aggressive overall styling stay.

On the safety front, the new S60 features a new Pedestrian Detection system that - you guessed it - detects pedestrians and brakes the car to a full stop from up to 30 mph if the driver fails to react.

The new sedan will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next March, with production slated to begin at Volvo's plant in Belgium early next summer. Once out on the road, the new S60 will be gunning for the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Acura TL and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, all of which comprise of the most competitive segments in the industry. In the meantime, Trollhattan has released a pair of images you can view in the gallery below and a short press release which we've posted after the jump. Thanks for the tips, everyone!
When we hear "i30", we think first-generation entry-level luxury sedan from Infiniti, but the name as it applies to Hyundai's new small car is supposed to invoke the hipness of the iPod, iMac and iPotatoPeeler. Unfortunately, adding an i to your product's name will not make it sell like an iPod, but at least the Hyundai i30 has some safe if not pleasing lines to partake. It does share a passing resemblence to the newish Kia cee'd, which isn't suprising since the cars are based on the same platform and will offer the same engine lineup that includes 1.4L, 1.6L and 2.0L gas engines and a 1.6L and 2.0L CRDi diesel engine. What do you think, should we be start complaining now that we won't get the i30 over here or is the Elantra good enough? Yeah, we don't think it is, either.

[Source: Carscoop]

Geneva Sneak Peek: Hyundai i30 originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 22 Feb 2007 15:33:00 EST. Called the Linea, the sedan looks larger than a Euro Focus four-door, about the size of a Pontiac G6. It's built, however, off of the smaller Grande Punto's platform with a half meter extra in length thanks to a longer wheelbase and a more generous rear overhang that contributes to a 17.65 cubic foot trunk. The car will debut at the Instanbul Motor Show early next month, which is fitting since it was developed through a joint venture between Fiat and TOFAS, the Turkish Automotive Factory, Inc., and will be built at the joint venture's plant in Bursa, Turkey. The Linea will go on sale in the second half of 2007 in European and non-European countries, though for now the U.K. will be excluded. No word on what powerplants will be offered with the Linea, either.

You'll find Fiat's full press release after the jump...

[Source: Fiat]
Continue reading Focus fighter from Fiat: the Linea

Focus fighter from Fiat: the Linea originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 20 Oct 2006 10:23:00 EST. Looking like a cross between a Lexus IS, a Citroen, and a BMW 1-series, the Arnejs and its stablemate Kia Cee'd should be contenders in Europe's hotly contested C-segment when it goes on sale next summer. The rakish stance and unique glass center roof give this car a lot of character, and character matters a lot in this segment.

The Arnejs (pronounced Ar-nez) will replace the Accent and Elantra, and compete with the VW Golf and Opel Astra among others. Engine options will include a 1.4-liter gas engine and a 2.0-liter diesel, and even a hybrid is possible.

Although the Kia C'eed was primarily designed by a Korean team and redeveloped for the European market, the Hyundai was created by Europeans at their Russelsheim, Germany plant. Production is rumored to be taking place in Eastern Europe. The car will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month when we'll be able to bring you live shots of the Arnejs from the show floor.

[Source: Motor Authority]
Continue reading Hyundai Arnejs pics surface

Hyundai Arnejs pics surface originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 12 Sep 2006 15:53:00 EST.
