2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan spy shots

The entry-level Mercedes-Benz C-Class has long felt like nothing more than, well, just that. Aside from the potent and delicious C63 AMG models, there hasn't been much to set the C-Class apart in the entry-level luxury/sport segment, leading to the model being regarded by many as "The Cheap Mercedes." No, it's certainly not a bad car, but for our money, it hasn't stood up particularly well to competitors like the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4.

So with the handsome new CLA-Class coming to round off the entry-level end for Mercedes-Benz, big plans are in store for the C-Class. We can see some evidence of that in this latest set of spy shots from our friends at CarPix. According to earlier reports, the new C-Class will be "far more dramatic" in the visuals department, and while the sedan's sculpting is still covered by camo, the much sleeker headlamp design we see here is, at the very least, a good start. The car's overall size is expected to grow a bit to further distance itself from the CLA, though thanks to lightweight materials, curb weight isn't expected to increase.

Just like the current model, the new C-Class is expected to use four- and six-cylinder engines, both gas- and diesel-fed, and overall power output for the global engine range should span from 120-ish on the low end to as much as 330. These new engines are expected to be mounted lower and farther rearward than before, offering better balance for both rear- and 4Matic all-wheel drive configurations. And as for that AMG? Rumors suggest a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 will fall underhood.

Expect the next C-Class to debut either later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, or more likely, at next March's Geneva Motor Show.

2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Edition 507 sedan - front three-quarter view, Geneva Motor Show reveal

The current Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG may be in the autumn of its years, but it's still one of our very favorite sport sedans. Ever. Yes, its paddle-shift transmission may not always follow orders, but with stupendous levels of thrust from its charismatic naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8, ebullient rear-wheel-drive dynamics and that noise, we frankly don't care that it's getting on a bit.

As a sendoff of sorts for the current generation, Mercedes-Benz has just introduced a new Edition 507 model at the Geneva Motor Show, with 507 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque - an increase of 56 horses over the standard car. Mercedes credits the substitution of low-mass internals from the SLS AMG gullwing for the power bump, a tactic shared with the AMG Development Package upgrade that has been subsumed by this Edition 507. 0-60 is quoted at 4.1 seconds and top speed at 174 mph.

The Edition 507 borrows its aluminum hood from the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe, along with spidery new 19-inch wheels in either titanium gray finish or matte black with shiny rim flanges. As seen on our gallery car above, a sports striping package is also featured, as are glossy black grille, daytime running lamps, spoiler and mirror caps.


Pricing has not yet been announced, but the car will be coming to North America in 2013 in both sedan and coupe formats.

2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Edition 507

Buyers wanting a little more power from a standard Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG now have the all-new Edition 507 to lust after. As its name suggests, this new model features a more powerful 507-horsepower AMG V8, and it also gets plenty of performance and styling upgrades as well. Unlike the Black Series, the 2014 C63 AMG Edition 507 will be offered in both sedan and coupe body styles when it goes on sale this summer; based on the images, it appears that European customers will also be able to enjoy the Edition 507 in extra-tasty wagon flavor.

Mercedes-Benz squeezed more power from the C63's sublime 6.2-liter V8 with many of the same ideas used in the SLS AMG including forged pistons, new connecting rods and lighter crankshaft, which also help to drop more than six pounds from the engine's overall weight. Along with the new internal components, the Edition 507 also gets a remapped engine controller helping the mill put out the 507 hp and 450 pound-feet of torque (the standard C63 AMG is rated at 451 hp and 443 lb-ft). This new model also comes standard with upgraded brakes consisting of 14.2-inch, two-piece front rotors to go with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, all painted red.

Adding to the visual aspect of the C63 AMG, the Edition 507 gets stylish five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels (available in a high-sheen titanium gray or matte black), a vented hood carried over from the Black Series, AMG stripes on the rocker panels and gloss black accents on the grille, rear spoiler and mirrors. Inside, the exclusive package also adds a sport steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara, red accents in the gauge cluster and lots of high-gloss piano black accents throughout the cabin. An "Edition 507" badge is mounted on the passenger side of the instrument panel, and finishes off the unique interior.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Edition 507 will make its debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show, but until then, check out the gallery of images along with the official press release posted below. The price for the car has not been announced, but it will include a a voucher for the owner to attend the AMG Driving Academy.

Next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class spy shot on 'Ring

Not too much is certifiably known about the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but putting together various snippets presents a sedan that will be moving the bar in various directions. Caught at the Nürburgring under comprehensive camo, it's said the styling underneath will take plenty of sculpting cues from the aggressively styled CLS, suggested here by the camo grille covering.

Under the hood, powerplants are expected to stick with the turbocharged four-cylinder currently available and expand into a gasoline hybrid model, with rumors of a diesel or even a diesel hybrid, and even three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines with displacement-on-demand technology.

In addition to the sedan bodystyle, a coupe, convertible and wagon are coming, but the latter might not come to the U.S.

If you've been sitting on your hands mulling over the idea of spending $125,000 on a Mercedes-Benz C-Class, we've got some bad news for you: your time is up. That's because, according to reports coming in from Europe, the German automaker has sold out every last example of the C63 AMG Black Series coupe.

The most hardcore of AMG models, need we remind you, is capable of hitting 60 in four seconds flat en route to a 186-mph top speed. Those are near-supercar figures from what you might otherwise call the baby Benz, if "baby" in this context more closely resembles Chucky from Child's Play. The car was built to dice it with the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and BMW M3 GTS... and ended up clocking a blistering 7:46 lap time at the Nurburgring in the process.

Mercedes-Benz had originally planned on building just 650 examples, but when demand far outstripped supply, it upped production to 800 units - all of which have now apparently been spoken for. Word has it that, even with its six-figure price tag, Daimler could still sell plenty more. The reason for the cap on production was apparently because the vital elements that set the Black model apart from its donor car were too time-intensive and were holding up production on the assembly line it shared with the rest of the C-Class range.

You may still have a chance to get your hands on a C63 Black Series, however, if spy shots of a wagon variant come to fruition. Daimler may, however, need to find a way of diverting their production off the main line to a specialist shop in order to complete them without disrupting production.

Mercedes-Benz and its AMG division wanted to thank the two million viewers of its various videos, so it dropped a C63 AMG at the top of the Corkscrew at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and recorded it drifting down. The treat was wasn't as sweet as it should have been due to an editor who got a bit too happy with the "Cut" button, and watchers said as much.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series DTM Safety Car

The latest hotted-up safety car for DTM is the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series. If we'd been in a racing accident, we're not sure we'd trust the men who stepped out of a car that's half steroids, half Satan, but after 12 years of providing the safety cars (along with Audi) for the German touring car series, we'll assume Mercedes-Benz knows what it's doing.

The most powerful C-Class ever will rush to the scene with 517 horsepower, an "aerodynamically optimised light bar" and other Christmas lights, AMG Track and Aero packages and an AMG-specific exhaust.

The safety car is more powerful than the 500-horsepower Mercedes actually racing in the series, so if it weren't for the extra weight it's carrying, it might even beat the other cars to the scene of the accident. One can hardly mutter the words "German," "luxury" and "all-wheel drive" without invoking visions of Audi. The company has worked hard to make its Quattro all-wheel-drive system synonymous with each of the phrases above, and its tireless marketing, successful motorsports programs and loyal fans have inextricably married the Four Rings to the power of all-wheel drive luxury. But Audi isn't the only German manufacturer putting power to all four wheels. Buyers have been happily bringing BMW xDrive models home for years, and Mercedes-Benz has a long and storied history of grips-at-all-four-corners innovation as well.

From vehicles like the globe-conquering Unimog to the somewhat more civil G-Class, the Silver Arrow has more than a little experience when it comes to overcoming uncertain terrain. Beyond four-wheel drive systems, Mercedes has sold over one million 4Matic all-wheel drive vehicles in the U.S. since the system's debut here in 1989. These days, Benz offers 4Matic on 10 of its vehicle lines in a total of 21 variations, and for 2012, luxury coupe buyers can rejoice in the inclusion of both the E350 4Matic Coupe and the C350 4Matic Coupe to the horde. With rivals like the Audi A5 and BMW 335i xDrive Coupe already default choices for two-door shoppers who prefer the foul weather capability of all-wheel drive, will the newest additions to the Mercedes-Benz stable be able to keep the pace? 4Matic has proven to be a popular feature on various Mercedes-Benz models, especially in U.S. regions that experience four distinct seasons. But while all-wheel-drive is almost a necessary option in the luxury sedan segment, Daimler's C-Class and E-Class coupes have soldiered on only with rear-drive.

According to Car and Driver, that will change for next year. The 4Matic system will reportedly only be offered with the company's 3.5-liter V6, which pumps out 302 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.

This news could mean changes for the C-Class sedan as well. Currently, 4Matic is only offered with the 3.0-liter V6-equipped C300 sedan, so this could mean that the C350 sedan could also get an AWD option in 2012. That's good news for grip-loving buyers who want more oomph than the modestly powered 228-horsepower C300 can provide.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series video screen capture

Mercedes-Benz has given the company's 2012 C63 AMG Black Series a life of its own. The newest commercial for the vehicle shows exactly what happens when dealers shut off the lights and go home for the night. The coupe sets about prowling the streets of some unnamed metropolis in a quest to quench its insatiable thirst for asphalt, frightening away vagrants and using its exhaust note to bark at the moon. Looks like fun. Buyers may want to think about installing a cage in the garage if they plan to bring this Black Series home.

Our short time with the non-Black Series C63 coupe left us wanting plenty more, and the video after the jump is only whetting our appetites for this even snarlier two-door. Click over to check and watch the film for yourself.

If we had to put a list together of cars that we're dying to drive, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series would be well within the top ten. Mind you, ours would be a big list, too. Apparently we'll need to recalibrate our roster a bit, because MB may just have a more vicious version waiting to assault our senses.

Our spy photographers have just trained their lenses on a particularly angry-looking C63 Coupe Black Series wearing some bolt-on upgrades. A fixed rear wing is paired with a carbon fiber front splitter, front canards and side skirts. For the moment, we're going to assume that the engine still pumps out 510 horsepower, but the more aggressive features point to this being a track-ready version of the German super coupe. Check it out from all angles in our high-res gallery.

For those that remember it, the secretary-special two-door CLC hatchback, built on last-generation C-class bits and pieces, was rather embarrassing for Mercedes-Benz. It was a dumpy thing, but at least Daimler was smart enough to not even attempt selling it in the States.

Thankfully, the decidedly easier-on-the-eyes C204 C-Class Coupe has just arrived, and we're getting this hot toddy. So what took Stuttgart so long to bring us this no-brainer variant of the C-Class? Were they worried about coupe clutter between the CLC- and E-Class? Too many two-doors, too soon? Funnily, we asked, and all we heard back were sheepish "We were waiting for the mothership to come around and give us the go-ahead for this car" comments.

Hold on to your hats, folks. As if the current 451-horsepower Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG weren't hardcore enough, the folks in Stuttgart are working on an even hotter Black Series version of Merc's BMW M3 killer.

The bulgier fender flares you see here won't be the only visual upgrades - our spies tell us that a new front spoiler will be on deck, as well as a revised rear diffuser with some Formula One-inspired cues. This development car still uses the old front fascia not found on the new-for-2012 car, but we'll probably see the updated headlamps and LED running lights as part of the new package.

The automaker's 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 will still be the powerplant of choice, current intelligence reports suggest we can expect about 510 horsepower on tap - 29 more ponies than the already-potent C63 with the P31 Development Package. That grunt runs through Mercedes-Benz's seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission, and even with the added Black Series bits, we'd expect that a few pounds have been shaved off of the AMG's curb weight.

Our spies even suggest that a C63 AMG Black Series Coupe is in the works, and it will bow shortly after the sedan's official debut. Consider that a proper successor to the shockingly great CLK63 AMG Black Series that debuted in 2007.

The newest gasoline engines from Mercedes-Benz feature cutting-edge lean-burn technology that leads to fewer harmful emissions and a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy. Well, the new engine tech, which requires a much leaner fuel-to-air ratio, is making its way into many mills, but apparently not the ones destined for these United States.

Ward's Automotive quotes Daimler powertrain development vice president Bernhard Heil as saying that the gasoline in the U.S. contains sulfur at the rate of 95 parts-per-million; about twice as much as can be tolerated by the new engines. The problem? Excess sulfur apparently clogs the nitrogen oxide-capturing traps.

So, is the U.S. the only country lagging behind Europe in removing sulfur from its gasoline supply? Far from it. Heil points out that the gasoline in Africa and many areas of Asia also contain too much sulfur for the lean engines. The first engine to feature the technology is the direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 destined for the C350 sport sedan and the SLK roadster seen above. The 302-horsepower mill will not (obviously) utilize lean-burn tech here in the U.S.

Mercedes-Benz is throwing its hat into the Super Bowl advertising fray with a pretty new 60-second spot designed to celebrate the company's 125th anniversary by heralding in a wave of five new models. The spot marks the very first time that the company has ever advertised during the NFL's ultimate game. In the spot, Mercedes-Benz features four new vehicles, including a very quick peek at the upcoming C-Class Coupe and the SLS AMG Roadster.

The spot features many of the company's past and current models escaping their owners in a bid to pay homage to the newborn Benz fleet. There are plenty of fantastic vintage Silver Arrows in the spot, along with a soundtrack by Janis Joplin and at least one celebrity cameo (we won't spoil the surprise on that one). We've said it before and we'll say it again: The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is an absolutely stunning piece of machinery. We recently had a chance to steer a C63 fitted with the P31 Development Package around the greater Detroit area, and it now looks like our friends to the north are getting a special edition of Merc's AMG atom bomb all for themselves.

Dubbed the Affalterbach Edition (it's named after the German town in which AMG's skunkworks reside), this C63 wears a unique Magno Allanite Grey paint that is accented with red brake calipers, 19-inch black alloy wheels, carbon fiber mirror shells and a subtle lip spoiler. No tweaks have been made to the C63's powertrain, but the Affalterbach edition comes standard with the normally optional AMG Performance Package, meaning there's 481 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque on tap. Sprints to 62 miles per hour will be accomplished in a tidy 4.4 seconds.

Inside, the Affalterbach treatment includes things like AMG sport seats wrapped in Nappa leather, red contrast stitching, carbon fiber trim, and special edition logos placed throughout the cabin. Only 30 units will be sold in the Great White North, starting from $81,500 Canadian when it goes on sale in the spring. Follow the jump for Mercedes-Benz's official release.

We've been told to expect to get our first glimpse of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March, but a few photos of the German two-door may have leaked out ahead of time. The images you see above were sourced up by the team at GMotors. From what we can tell, the vehicle in the stylized photos lines up pretty well with the spy photos we've seen of the 2012 C-Class Coupe so far, which leads us to believe that this may actually be the real deal. If so, the new coupe will wear the new beak of its updated four-door compatriots.

That includes the new slightly restyled front fascia. Interestingly enough, this particular set of photos ditches the quad fog lights we saw in the spy photos in favor of LED units. we'd say that seems like a fairly reasonable change given the popularity of the diodes in automotive design at the moment. Word is that this particular machine will get the same rash of engines as the sedan, meaning that buyers can expect to get their hands on either a 3.0-liter V6 with 228 horsepower or a 3.5-liter six-pot with 268 ponies. The question is, will we get an entry-level four-cylinder model like the 2012 C-Class sedan? Something tells us we'll know a little more as we get closer to Geneva. Thanks for the tip, Luke.

Now that we've seen the facelifted 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class in its bread-and-butter C250, C300 and C350 forms, it's time to start thinking about the holier-than-thou, unabashedly hardcore C63 AMG. The folks at Germany's EvoCars have stumbled upon what appear to be production-spec images of the AMG-laden 2012 C-Class, and while the brash bulginess of the current car has been toned down somewhat, there's certainly nothing sedate about this new menacing Merc.

The biggest question about the next-generation C63 is whether or not Mercedes-Benz will ditch the current car's glorious naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 in favor of the new twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter mill that will be used in the CL63, S63 and CLS63. EvoCars states that only the new C63 AMG Coupe will receive the 5.5-liter heart, and that power of the 6.2 will be bumped up for use in the sedan. Still, with either engine, we're sure the C63 will be as lively as ever out on the road.

Look very closely - this is the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which gets a very modest facelift for the new model year. Good thing, then, that the majority of changes made to the C-Class are found underhood, where Mercedes-Benz is offering an all-new four-cylinder engine option here in the United States (as well as a new model designation - C250), not to mention some tweaks for the V6 found in the top-end C350.

Design tweaks are limited to a new aluminum hood with slightly restyled headlamps and LED running lamps down below. Yes, it looks extremely similar to the 2011 model, but if we're honest, the current C-Class design isn't exactly growing old. In fact, we rather like it as-is. The styling upgrades to the rear end are hardly noticeable, and that's just fine, too.

Four-cylinder powerplants are quickly replacing six-cylinder mills these days, even in the entry-level luxury segment. You'll remember that just a few years ago, Audi discontinued the 3.2-liter V6 in its A4, leaving only the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine on tap. Based on preliminary specifications, the new direct-injected 1.8-liter turbocharged mill looks to be plenty potent, with 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque on hand. That's 27 less horsepower than the mid-range 3.0-liter V6, but the 1.8T offers eight more pound-feet of twist. Thus, both the C250 and the mid-range C300 4Matic will do the 0-60 sprint in 7.1 seconds, but the C250 returns 24 miles per gallon (combined) while the C300 nets just 20 mpg. The range-topping C350 also gets some help from direct injection, meaning its 3.5-liter V6 now produces 302 hp and 273 lb-ft, gains of 34 hp and 15 lb-ft over the outgoing model.

In addition to new engines, the 2012 C-Class benefits from a restyled interior, mimicking what we've grown accustomed to in the E-Class. New driver assistance systems like Attention Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Parktronic help keep things in check out on the road.

The 2012 C-Class will make its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month with the cars going on sale in the United States next summer. Mercedes-Benz's retouched C-Class will sprout an all-new coupe version for 2012, and our spy photographers have just captured a nearly production-ready prototype with no camouflage. In addition to the obvious removal of the rear doors, the coupe wears the new C-Class' slightly refreshed front fascia, featuring the quad-foglamp design that is quickly spreading across the entire Mercedes-Benz range. LED running lamps will no doubt be available on higher-end trim levels.

The most robust changes will likely be found inside the C-Class Coupe, where a new interior design will be on hand. We've seen spy shots of the coupe's new innards before, and the design mimics that of the larger E-Class range. Still, the current C-Class interior was beginning to feel a bit outdated, so any freshening is indeed welcomed.

Our spies report that powertrains will be carried over from the 2010 model, meaning we'll get the same pair of 3.0-liter and 3.5-liter V6 engines, producing 228 and 268 horsepower, respectively. Will we see a C63 AMG Coupe with the automaker's twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 (or naturally aspirated 6.2-liter mill)? Mum's the word on that one, but consider our fingers crossed.

Judging by how complete this prototype looks (it's likely getting ready for its crash-test closeup), we'd expect to see the 2012 C-Class Coupe make its formal debut in either Detroit or Geneva next year. Scroll through our high-res gallery below to see the naked C Coupe for yourself.
