Mercedes C63 AMG Black Series launched as DTM safety car

The latest hotted-up safety car for DTM is the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series. If we'd been in a racing accident, we're not sure we'd trust the men who stepped out of a car that's half steroids, half Satan, but after 12 years of providing the safety cars (along with Audi) for the German touring car series, we'll assume Mercedes-Benz knows what it's doing.

The most powerful C-Class ever will rush to the scene with 517 horsepower, an "aerodynamically optimised light bar" and other Christmas lights, AMG Track and Aero packages and an AMG-specific exhaust.

The safety car is more powerful than the 500-horsepower Mercedes actually racing in the series, so if it weren't for the extra weight it's carrying, it might even beat the other cars to the scene of the accident. Officially Official: 2008 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Estate

Since the info was leaked over the weekend, there's not much new to report about the C 63 AMG wagon. There are, however, high-res shots of the warp drive-equipped station wagon available now, and they're in the attached gallery.
In case you missed it over the holiday weekend, here's a rundown on the essentials:

AMG 6.2L V8 producing 457 horsepower/442 lb-ft
Paddle-shift equipped 7-speed automatic
0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds
155 mph top speed (electronically limited)
Full AMG appearance package inside and out
Up to 53 cubic ft of cargo space
One-touch opening and closing tailgate
European market launch in beginning of 2008
Price (inc. VAT): €69,853
