<br />
The previous mark for the number of cars simultaneously performing a burnout, as certified by those record keepers at the Guinness Book of World Records, was 49. That mark has now been moved to 69 (even though the newscast graphic says 70, it was 69) thanks to the petrolheads ready to sacrifice tires at Australia's <a href="http://www.summernats.com.au/">Summernats Car Festival</a> in the nation's capital, Canberra.<br />
<br />
The annual festival has always included burnout competitions, usually for one of two titles that end in "a bloodbath of rubber and smoke." According to one of the Summernats co-owners, this year's attempt effort in the Liqui-Moly Power Pit ended with <a href="http://www.worldrecordacademy.com/stunts/largest_burnout_Summernats_breaks_Guinness_world_record_113175.html">about 30 tires blowing</a> during the 30-seconds of sustained scorching needed to take the record.<br />
<br />
You'll find a newscast of the burnout in the first video <a href="/2013/01/06/australians-take-worlds-largest-burnout-crown-w-video/#continued">below</a>, along with a spectator's capture of the record from beginning to end. And smoke. Lots and lots of smoke.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/06/australians-take-worlds-largest-burnout-crown-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Australians take world's largest burnout crown [w/video]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/06/australians-take-worlds-largest-burnout-crown-w-video/">Australians take world's largest burnout crown [w/video]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 06 Jan 2013 19:00:00 EST. <br />
As you can see from the screen grab above, some people get to have all the fun. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/jay+leno/">Jay Leno</a>, who owns more cars than you will ever drive in your lifetime, was graced with the presence of a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/fiat/500+abarth/">Fiat 500 Abarth</a> at his garage.<br />
<br />
Now, this was not the first time that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/fiat/">Fiat</a> has stopped off with the potent Italian runabout. Fiat dropped in on Leno with an Abarth back in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/12/05/fiat-500-abarth-visits-jay-lenos-garage/">December of last year</a>, but this time he was able to take it out on the road and put the performance-minded 500 through its paces. And that he did.<br />
<br />
Leno owns the very second 500 to be sold in America, and raised the question: Is the Abarth good enough for an upgrade? We certainly think so, but Jay took to the Los Angeles streets to find out. Along the way, he mused about how the Abarth would stack up against the Ferrari Dino and the future of the performance automobile. To find out what Jay thought of the Fiat 500 Abarth check out the video <a href="/2012/07/26/jay-leno-burns-rubber-in-a-fiat-500-abarth/#continued">below.</a><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/07/26/jay-leno-burns-rubber-in-a-fiat-500-abarth/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jay Leno burns rubber in a Fiat 500 Abarth</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/07/26/jay-leno-burns-rubber-in-a-fiat-500-abarth/">Jay Leno burns rubber in a Fiat 500 Abarth</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 26 Jul 2012 20:00:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ferrari">Ferrari</a> is not an outfit that would miss out on the enormous opportunity presented by the Chinese market. Having won the grand prix there three times out of the first four it was held, the Prancing Horse marque launched a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/05/red-flag-ferrari-crafts-a-dozen-599-hgte-specials-for-china/">special-edition 599</a> there in 2009, followed by an even more exclusive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/06/fine-china-one-off-porcelain-finish-ferrari-599-special-to-be-a/">porcelain-finish one-off</a>.<br />
<br />
For 2012, Ferrari <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/10/ferrari-uses-new-color-dragons-on-special-edition-458-italia-fo/">created</a> a special-edition <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ferrari/458+italia">458 Italia</a> to mark the year of the dragon, and to launch it, the local dealership in Nanjing rented out a section of the Great Wall. It's what they did with it, however, that has local authorities seeing red in more ways than one.<br />
<br />
Apparently at some point during or after the demonstration, an employee of the dealership got behind the wheel of the limited-edition V8 supercar and pulled some smokey donuts. The problem is that the stunt left tire marks burnt into the ancient surface, leaving authorities understandably upset. What repercussions will ensue remains to be seen, but we certainly wouldn't want to be ticking off China's notoriously strict government.<br />

<br />
One rear-drive coupe with over 500 horsepower would be enough for most automakers. But not <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gm">General Motors</a>. The biggest of the Detroit automakers just couldn't get by with what some rivals would put on a showroom turntable with more flood-lights than an ATF raid. That's why it makes the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/corvette/">Chevrolet Corvette Z06</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/zr1/">ZR1</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/camaro/">Camaro ZL1</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/cadillac/cts-v+coupe/">Cadillac CTS-V</a>. (And that's before we get into overseas products like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/15/2011-vauxhall-vxr8-is-all-we-really-want-for-the-holidays/">Holden Commodore GTS/Vauxhall VXR8</a>.)<br />
<br />
The question is, which one is best for burnouts? To bring us one step closer to the answer we all crave, our compatriots over at Inside Line took two such 500+hp GM super-coupes - the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/07/2012-chevrolet-centennial-edition-corvette-is-all-about-racing-h/">Z06 Centennial Edition</a> and the CTS-V Coupe - down to the Streets of Willow for the fifth installment of their Burnout Super Test.<br />
<br />
So, which of the General's eight-cylinder muscle machines laid down the longest strip of rubber? We won't spoil it for you, so <a href="/2012/01/25/chevy-corvette-z06-centennial-goes-head-to-head-with-cadillac-ct/#continued">follow the jump to watch the video clip</a> and the <a href="http://www.insideline.com/chevrolet/corvette/2012/burnout-super-test-part-5-corvette-z06-centennial-edition-vs-cadillac-cts-v-coupe.html">link for the full article</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/25/chevy-corvette-z06-centennial-goes-head-to-head-with-cadillac-ct/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chevy Corvette Z06 Centennial goes head-to-head with Cadillac CTS-V Coupe in Burnout Super Test</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/25/chevy-corvette-z06-centennial-goes-head-to-head-with-cadillac-ct/">Chevy Corvette Z06 Centennial goes head-to-head with Cadillac CTS-V Coupe in Burnout Super Test</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 25 Jan 2012 15:00:00 EST. <br />
SRT cars love doing burnouts. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-dodge-challenger-srt8-392-first-drive/#photo-3570810">This is not news.</a> So, how do you get an all-wheel-drive <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/grand+cherokee+srt8">2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8</a> to produce as much smoke as any <a href="http://autoblog.com/dodge/challenger">Challenger</a>, <a href="http://autoblog.com/dodge/charger">Charger</a> or <a href="http://autoblog.com/chrysler/300c">300C</a> we've ever seen? By messing with the ECU, of course.<br />
<br />
You see, in Track mode, the <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/jeep">Jeep</a> sends 65 percent of its power to the rear wheels, and, according to SRT engineers, there are certain instances where 100 percent of the engine's power can be sent to just one rear wheel. Loading some special software into the engine's control system can easily allow for sending all the power to both rear wheels, and thus, burnouts ensue.<br />
<br />
We've just returned from driving the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 for ourselves, so stay tuned for our full impressions next week. For now, <a href="/2011/07/15/2012-jeep-grand-cherokee-srt8-already-reflashed-for-crazy-burnou/#continued">hit the jump</a> to watch the big SRT monster making huge plumes of smoke.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/15/2012-jeep-grand-cherokee-srt8-already-reflashed-for-crazy-burnou/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 already reflashed for crazy burnout action</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/15/2012-jeep-grand-cherokee-srt8-already-reflashed-for-crazy-burnou/">2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 already reflashed for crazy burnout action</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 15 Jul 2011 19:57:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/chrysler">Chrysler</a> really should have sold the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/dodge/viper+srt10">Dodge Viper</a> without its body. We don't really have anything against the slinking lines of the big snake, but there's something about the vision of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/v10">V10</a> monster frolicking around with its skirt off that simply flips all the right switches. It's like a post-pubescent Ariel Atom. If you recall seeing the awesome <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/05/16/saab-9-3-sport-combi-unlikely-but-awesome-viper-v10-transplant-r/">Viper-powered Saab 9-3 SportCombi</a> built by Zatzy forum member mrspringer, you probably spent at least half a second wondering what fate befell the engine's donor.<br />
<br />
Well, wonder no more.<br />
<br />
Mrspringer seemingly got a hold of the whole vehicle in running condition with one notable exception - it had no skin. Like any mad scientist worth his salt, the guy immediately set the rear tires spinning and the naked guts of the Viper pirouetting in a remarkably tight parking area. We applaud both his car control skills and his commitment to safety. Remember, kids, always wear your seatbelt. <a href="/2011/05/16/bodyless-dodge-viper-is-the-ultimate-burnout-machine/#continued">Hit the jump</a> to check out the action for yourself.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/05/16/bodyless-dodge-viper-is-the-ultimate-burnout-machine/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bodyless Dodge Viper is the ultimate burnout machine</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/05/16/bodyless-dodge-viper-is-the-ultimate-burnout-machine/">Bodyless Dodge Viper is the ultimate burnout machine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 16 May 2011 19:57:00 EST. <br />
Books are made for reading, boots are made for walking and tires are meticulously engineered for burnouts. As you may or may not be aware, the latest chapter in the <em>Fast and the Furious</em> saga was released this weekend to the rejoicing of testosterone-soaked teenage crowds everywhere. Nowhere was <em>Fast Five</em> more celebrated than in Detroit, as after the final credits rolled, the movie-going masses retired to the parking lot for an impromptu burnout competition.<br />
<br />
If you listen very, very closely, you can hear the cries of a million environmentalists.<br />
<br />
Nearly everyone got in on the fun, from full-size diesel pickups to front-wheel-drive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/malibu">Chevrolet Malibu</a> models and beater <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/240sx">Nissan 240SX</a> projects. Some of the more impressive smoke came courtesy of a Mitsubishi Evolution that retired to a far flung corner of the cinema parking lot to wring out some all-wheel-drive pirouettes. The fun seems to have lasted a good long time before the local PD showed up to put a stop to the party. Miraculously, very little sheetmetal was wrinkled in the smoke.<br />

	<em>Hot Rod</em> takes the 2011 Shelby GT350 out for a smoke break - Click above to watch video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/11/video-2011-shelby-gt350-coupe-smokes-some-meats-with-hot-rod/#continued">after the jump</a></div>
<br />
<em>Hot Rod</em> was recently busy filming its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/03/video-hot-rod-pits-shelby-cobra-against-super-snake-bad/">Shelby Cobra versus Super Snake video</a>, but that doesn't mean there wasn't some downtime. That break in the action... resulted in more action, because someone at Shelby handed the <em>Hot Rod</em> crew keys to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/shelby+gt350/">2011 GT350</a>.<br />
<br />
Did they take a few casual runs up and down the road to get some basic footage? No, they lined up the car on a desert side street and attempted to ruin the rear rubber. On their way back to the original film shoot, they threw in a quick power slide for good measure. Drop the clutch and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/11/video-2011-shelby-gt350-coupe-smokes-some-meats-with-hot-rod/#continued">click past the jump</a> to check out the clip.<br />

We may be a bit late in posting this clip, but it's new to us... and it's excellent. We present to you a triple-decker <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/burnout">burnout</a> that puts most other tire-shredding attempts to shame. On top is a motorcycle, resting in the bed of a 'ute, sitting on the back of a truck. You see where this is going, but rather than rattle on, just <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/01/25/video-behold-the-turducken-of-burnouts/#continued">click past the jump</a> and see it for yourself. <em>Thanks for the tip, gian!</em><br />

<br />
When <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mercedes-benz">Mercedes-Benz</a> first dropped word that a team of enterprising individuals had wedged a kicking Silver Arrow V8 under the hood of the company's diminutive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/B-Class">B-Class</a> hatch, we immediately began searching around for a video of the machine in action. Now the German automaker has been so kind as to supply just such a clip. While we'd love to see the little five-door lift a leg around a proper road course (<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/nurburgring"><em><em>N&uuml;rburgring</em></em></a>?), for now we'll have to settle for a shot of the steroid-riddled commuter lighting up its rear tires in grand fashion.<br />
<br />
As you may recall, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/21/mercedes-b55-big-v8-b-class/">B55</a> was created by trainees at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Rastatt. With 385 horsepower borrowed from an E-Class and about as much weight as a box of tissues, this creation ought to go like stink. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/01/03/video-mercedes-benz-b55-does-the-burnout-weve-been-waiting-for/#continued">Hit the jump</a> to check out the action for yourself. Now we just have to wait and see whose palms we have to grease to be able to plop ourselves behind the wheel for a spell.<br />

<br />
There are plenty of guilty pleasures when it comes to cars and motorcycles, but chief among them has to be the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/burnout">burnout</a>. Sure, you might as well be lighting $100 bills on fire, and yes, you're not exactly doing the environment or your vehicle any favors, but there's just something magical about sending the rear (or front, though that's usually not nearly as fun) wheels spinning. It seems that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/pirelli">Pirelli</a> has taken it upon itself to educate the public about the highly-addictive nature and dangers of lighting up a tire. Remember, kids, do as your told, not as we do.<br />
<br />
Pirelli's genius ad company, Y&amp;R, is behind this bevy of spots, and with excellent photography and a little clever word play, they're sure to stick in your mind. So, the next time you go to put your tires through some serious punishment, remember Pirelli's words on the subjects. Think of the tires.<br />

<br />
We love burnouts as much as the next guy, but lets face it: Not every clip of tires spinning on pavement is a thing of beauty. Some are too short, the camera is too shaky or perhaps the burnout is just a sloppy mess. Hey, it happens. But every now and again, we come across something special - a true Rembrandt of burning rubber, so to speak. <br />
<br />
Patiently waiting past the jump is just such a work of artistic genius, with a Snakeskin Green <a href="http://autoblog.com/model/viper/">Viper</a> playing the starring role. The beautiful, crisp HD video (shot at 120 frames-per-seconds on a very serious <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/16/red-one-hands-on-red-nab-booth-tour/">Red One camera</a>) is chock-full of elegant pans, tilts and slo-mos with 19-inch Viper wheels spinning all the while. Proceed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/17/video-viper-burnout-vid-one-for-the-ages/#continued">beyond the jump</a> for three minutes of joy. You won't regret it.<br />
<br />
Oh, and we love the smell of <strike>napalm</strike> <em>burnt rubber</em> in the morning...<br />

<br />
We're not sure if it's the raw display of power or the smell of burning rubber, but there is just something about a good burnout that puts a smile on our face. Of course, the burnout has to be done right to make us smile. A poorly executed spinning of the rear wheels prompts plenty of indifference, unless the burnout goes <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/14/video-dodge-neon-burnout-ends-in-relentless-fail/">so terribly wrong</a> that it proves to be somehow better than even the best burnouts.<br />
<br />
Luckily it just so happens that we've found an instance of badder is better. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/19/when-tires-attack-burnout-competition-turns-ugly-for-camaro/#continued">Hit the jump</a> to see what happens when a guy in his third-gen <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/camaro">Chevrolet Camaro</a> has the wrong kind of tires to be spinning around on the pavement. We don't want to spoil the climax of this video, but we will tell you that it is absolutely worth watching if you're a big fan of automotive carnage. <br />

In brief, it's a dude, his Dodge Neon, and a burnout gone horribly, irreversibly wrong. Prepare yourselves for wildly overwhelming feelings of schadenfreude <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/14/video-dodge-neon-burnout-ends-in-relentless-fail/#continued">after the jump</a>.<br />

In the hands of an expert, the smell of the burning tires and the roar of the engine are a thing of beauty. For the amateur, burning prolonged rubber can lead to more than some ruined radials. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/how-i-not-i-to-do-a-burnout-in-your-bmw/">Hit the jump</a> to view one of the saddest burnouts we've ever seen. For some reason, the man behind the wheel of this BMW thought it would be a good idea to lay rubber on a cement embankment. The resulting video ought to be enough to make sure an insurance claim isn't approved. We're just happy nobody appeared to be hurt; as this one could have ended even more badly.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/80504403/">eBaum's World</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/how-i-not-i-to-do-a-burnout-in-your-bmw/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>How <i>not</i> to do a burnout in your BMW </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/how-i-not-i-to-do-a-burnout-in-your-bmw/">How <i>not</i> to do a burnout in your BMW </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 18 Jan 2009 16:06:00 EST. <br />The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-2010-mustang-officially-unveiled-live/">2010 Ford Mustang</a> has been knocked for being a tad down on horsepower compared to its retro-new muscle car rivals. Nevertheless, if you have some tires at home that you hate, you can still shred them to smithereens in the 315-hp GT. The post title pretty much sums this up. As more people get their hands on SRT8 Dodge Challengers, more videos of wanton tire massacre will surface. Today's round comes via MyRide, which set about tagging the tarmac at Willow Springs with a silver example. When the Camaro finally comes out, we expect to see approximately one bajillion videos exactly like this, with at least half sporting the inevitable <a href="http://www.deadmilkmen.com/lyrics/bitchin_camaro.html">Dead Milkmen</a> soundtrack. <span style="font-style: italic;">Thanks for the tip, David!<br /></span><br />[Source: <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=K0XlGZgwbFk">YouTube</a> via MyRide]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/13/video-another-challenger-srt8-sending-rubber-to-the-afterlife/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Another Challenger SRT8 sending rubber to the afterlife</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/13/video-another-challenger-srt8-sending-rubber-to-the-afterlife/">VIDEO: Another Challenger SRT8 sending rubber to the afterlife</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 13 Apr 2008 08:41:00 EST. This thing is completely hot. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/19/new-york-2008-hyundai-genesis-coupe-burning-rubber-w-video/">Check it out</a>.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">UPDATE:</span> <span style="font-style: italic;">Video of actual press conference with execs talking after the jump.</span><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe-live-reveal">2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - Live Reveal</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe-live-reveal/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/40_gencoupelivea_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe-live-reveal/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/41_gencoupelivea_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe-live-reveal/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/42_gencoupelivea_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe-live-reveal/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/43_gencoupelivea_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe-live-reveal/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/44_gencoupelivea_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe">2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/hyundai_gen_coupe_20080921_0020_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/hyundai_gen_coupe_20080921_0021_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/hyundai_gen_coupe_20080924_0022_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/hyundai_gen_coupe_20080924_0029_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-genesis-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/hyundai_gen_coupe_20080924_0028_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/19/new-york-2008-hyundai-genesis-coupe-burning-rubber-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New York 2008: Hyundai Genesis Coupe burning rubber [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/19/new-york-2008-hyundai-genesis-coupe-burning-rubber-w-video/">New York 2008: Hyundai Genesis Coupe burning rubber [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 19 Mar 2008 16:40:00 EST. We think that this video is from the same shoot that produced the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/06/first-official-challenger-srt8-teaser-pics/">teaser pics </a>we all salivated over before the Challenger was officially unveiled. With that, on to the video, after the jump. Lexus has returned a volley after Audi made a shot across their bow with a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVaFbkg9jRs">TV spot </a>swiping at Lexus and implying that a self-parking car is for non-driving drivers. Like that kid in class who never knew quite how to shoot back a response, Lexus has produced a couple of spots that are almost, <em>almost</em> badass. The spots, titled "Etiquette" and "Doughnut" juxtapose imagery of the GS 460 partaking in power oversteer antics to a soundtrack of operatic aria. That's cool, the Lexus 4.6 liter V8 does have a muscular snarl, and the GS can at least keep up with the pack. What's uncool is the snooty tagline, admonishing "just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should." Yeah, nannying is such a come-on to purchase. The tagline for "Doughnut" is even worse - "Yes, you can. And no, you shouldn't." Doesn't that just makes the "<em>screw you</em>" center in your brain light up? To create spots with badass imagery and hooligan undertones, only to soft-pedal the tagline and shroud it all in some sort of veil of "<em>that's beneath us</em>" does not sound the klaxon for enthusiasts. The car itself looks to be fun, if they've managed to put some discipline into the suspension, a real manual transmission, and dial back the electronic joy-killers. <br /><br />[Source: Brandweek]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/17/lexus-returns-the-favor-to-audi-in-new-ads/">Lexus returns the favor to Audi in new ads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 17 Oct 2007 12:33:00 EST.
