From the same guys who brought us video of a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/14/porsche-962-driven-through-the-streets-of-japan/">street-legal Porsche 962C driving through the streets of Japan</a> comes this latest video showing Le Mans-winning pro driver, Seiji Ara, lapping Fuji Speedway in a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bugatti/veyron+eb+16.4/">Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport</a>. Most of the video centers around Ara's impressions, but there is plenty of great video showing the supercar carving up the track's numerous turns and blasting along its lengthy front straightaway.<br />
<br />
Ara says this is the most powerful car he's ever driven, so we imagine it was as much for fun for him to drive as it is for us to watch. Some consider the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/26/bugatti-veyron-16-4-grand-sport-review-video/">Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport</a> to be a piece of rolling art, while others consider the real masterpiece to be the engineering feats to be what lies underneath. Impressively, French artist <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernar_Venet">Bernar Venet</a> has managed to combine these two notions in one dramatic special edition model: the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Venet.<br />
<br />
Venet, whose works can be found everywhere from New Zealand to Versailles, confessed that he initially thought it unnecessary to alter what he already considered a work of art. The French painter and sculptor drew inspiration from Bugatti's engineering equations that led to the development of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bugatti/">Veyron</a>. The numbers and functions were placed on the bodywork in such away that it appears they are being blown off the Grand Sport as it drives at speed. These equations are also stitched into the interior, and the finishing touches come in small replicas of Vanet's works on the oil cap, filler cap and the center console.<br />

The Bugatti Grand Sport Venet will be on display at the Rubell Family collection during Art Basel Miami Beach, which runs through December 9. You've seen the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/veyron+grand+sport">Grand Sport</a>. You've seen the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/veyron+super+sport">Super Sport</a>. Now meet the Super Grand Sport.<br />
<br />
Actually, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bugatti">Bugatti</a> calls its latest version of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bugatti/veyron+eb+16.4/">Veyron</a> the Vitesse - French for "speed" - but it is essentially a combination of the best traits of the Grand Sport and Super Sport models. The Grand Sport, as you may recall, is the convertible (or targa) version of the Alsatian supercar, while the Super Sport is the more powerful, record-breaking version.<br />
<br />
As expected, Molsheim has taken the 1,200-horsepower version of the Veyron's engine - all eight liters, sixteen cylinders, four turbochargers and (while we're counting) ten radiators of it - from the Super Sport and combined it with the open-top body-style of the Grand Sport. The result is what Bugatti calls (and we have every reason to believe is indeed) the most powerful production roadster of all time, and with time, it will undoubtedly prove the fastest too.<br />

The automotive industry tends to work by certain norms and patterns. For example, by the time one model is ready to be phased out, we usually have a pretty good idea of how its replacement is shaping up and when it will appear. But <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bugatti">Bugatti</a>, of course, is no typical automaker.<br />
<br />
The House that Ettore Built has, for the past seven years, subsisted on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bugatti/veyron+eb+16.4/">Veyron</a> alone. Don't get us wrong, it's one heck of an automobile around which to build a brand, but it won't be around forever. In fact, Bugatti announced a while ago that Veyron production was running its course and nearing its end. The open topped <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/bugatti,grand+sport/">Grand Sport</a>, as it turns out, was outside that original allotment, but even that is nearing the end of its road.<br />
<br />
So you can imagine our surprise when Ricardo, the company that makes the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for the Veyron, announced today that it had extended its contract with Bugatti for another two years. Which would be straightforward enough if there were cars in which Bugatti would be installing said transmissions, but as we already established, the marque's sole product is nearing the end of its life-cycle, with no replacement in sight.<br />
<br />
So where are these transmissions going? There can only be a few explanations. One is that Bugatti is planning to extend Veyron production with another derivative - likely the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/22/bugatti-testing-hotter-veyron-grand-sport-ss/">Super Grand Sport</a> that is expected to combine the removable roof panel on the Grand Sport with the more powerful engine and bodywork of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/bugatti,super+sport/">Super Sport</a>. Another is that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/galibier">Galibier</a> - a four-door super-sedan in the pipeline at Bugatti's Molsheim, France HQ - is closer than previously expected, but that model is expected to shift to a different type of transmission altogether.<br />

With a gazillion color options for every little part of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bugatti/veyron+eb+16.4/">Bugatti Veyron</a>, there's no reason why any two examples should be alike. (Except for maybe an inverse correlation between wealth and imagination.) So it would stand to reason that every <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bugatti/">Bugatti</a> should be considered a special edition of one. And that certainly appears to be the case, as the French marque seems to bring out another special edition at every possible opportunity.<br />
<br />
That opportunity last arose at the Dubai Motor Show, where Bugatti presented <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/10/bugatti-brings-three-special-veyron-grand-sports-to-dubai/">three unique examples</a> of the Veyron Grand Sport, the vehicle that holds the title of "world's fastest convertible." Now the elite marque is returning to the Persian Gulf for the Qatar Motor Show with what appears (to our eyes, at least) to be one of the same examples, decked out in yellow and black - said to be founder Ettore Bugatti's favorite color combination. Thoughtfully, however, they've provided a brace of new real-world photos.<br />
<br />
The lower part of the body has been done up in lacquered carbon fiber, the upper part in bright yellow and the wheels in black along. Inside, the center console has likewise been finished in black, with seats clad in yellow leather with black stitching and the inverse for the dashboard, wheel and shifter.<br />
<br />
While Molsheim apparently didn't feel the need to give this particular example a unique name, they might as well have. And for a few euros extra, we're sure they'd be glad to. As it stands, Bumblebee's aristocratic Alsatian cousin is available for a princely 1.58 million euros - a little over two million in dead presidents. But if this particular color combination isn't to your liking, 45 out of the original allotment of 150 units are still available to order, with prices starting at 1.4 million euros. Production of the original <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bugatti/veyron+eb+16.4/">Bugatti Veyron</a> may have drawn to a close, but that doesn't mean the end of the Veyron altogether. Of the 150 examples of the Grand Sport earmarked for production, only 45 of them have been accounted for. That leaves another - carry the two, divide by the square-root of pi - 105 examples still available for order. And no two of them are likely to end up the same.<br />
<br />
That's because Bugatti offers a nearly endless array of customization options both inside and out, the permutations of which could stand to overshadow even its seven-figure price tag. And so to demonstrate what can be done with a Veyron, Bugatti has brought three specially outfitted examples to no less fitting a location than the Dubai Motor Show.<br />

The first example is the most garish, but combines founder Ettore Bugatti's favorite colors - black and yellow - with bright yellow bodywork contrasting with the exposed carbon fiber and black wheels. The second employs blue carbon fiber and anodized aluminum, and the third incorporates a newly developed weave of green carbon fiber along with polished aluminum. Each features matching wheels as well as an individually-tailored interior.<br />

That's a whole lot of scratch, so what do you get in return? Well, a 1,000-horsepower quad-turbo sixteen-cylinder engine, to start off with. And all the bragging rights that go along with it. You get the most prestigious badge in the business. And you get two roofs.<br />
<br />
The Grand Sport, you see, is not your typical convertible. Rather than incorporating some sort of cloth, glass or metal roof that folds down behind the seats at the push of a button, it has a sort of targa-style solid panel that can be installed or removed depending on weather conditions. But if you're out in the sun and the skies suddenly begin to darken, there's a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/21/video-the-bugatti-grand-sports-umbrella-roof-in-action/">second roof</a> that can be put in place in case of an emergency.<br />
<br />
The trouble is, much as Richard Hammond of <em>Top Gear</em> discovered with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lamborghini/murcielago/">Lamborghini Murci&eacute;lago Roadster</a>, the makeshift umbrella assembly isn't quite so easy to install in a pinch. Teaming up with K&ouml;nigliche Porzellan-Manufaktur, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bugatti">Bugatti</a> has created the one-off <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/veyron">Veyron</a> "L'Or Blanc" you see here. Its name means "white gold", and the special Grand Sport uses porcelain to distinguish its body and interior in high swirly style.<br />

The result, as you can see, is quite stunning, and anything but conventional. Only this one example will be made, with an asking price of &euro;1.65 million - equivalent to $2.4 million at today's exchange rates. Persian fashion designer Bijan Pakzad was a genuine car nut, and he drove high-dollar exotics on a regular basis. He passed away last month while he was working on a series of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/20/rolls-royce-and-bijan-team-up-for-custom-phantom-line/">special editions for Rolls-Royce</a>, but before he left this world he worked up this one-of-a-kind <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/20/rolls-royce-and-bijan-team-up-for-custom-phantom-line/">Bugatti Veyron</a> Grand Sport.<br />
<br />
Bijan's signature yellow dominates everything on this custom Veyron, from the broad stripe running up the center of the polished aluminum bodywork to the wheels and interior. As you can see, Bijan's trademark bearded face motif is featured prominently on the nose, and Bijan logos are even featured on both sides of the rear wing. There's even an iPad installed in between the seats that displays the same flower as those rotated daily in his Rodeo Drive boutique.<br />

Created in close collaboration with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bugatti">Bugatti</a> and its design director, Achim Anschdeidt, the car was completed six weeks ago. Low-key it is not, but then neither were Bijan and his other designs. With a virtually endless array of color combinations available, there's really no reason any two examples of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/veyron">Bugatti Veyron</a> should ever be the same. And these latest two are no exception.<br />
<br />
Unveiled at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/shanghai-motor-show/">Shanghai Motor Show</a> this week, this pair of Veyrons feature unique color and trim combinations to make them stand out even from this rarefied crowd.<br />
<br />
On one hand, we have a Grand Sport - the convertible version of the Veyron - trimmed out in matte white with blue carbon fiber, with a complementing blue interior with white stitching. On the other we have a Super Sport - the record-breaking 1,100-horsepower version of the Veyron - decked out in black lacquered carbon fiber and a cream interior.<br />
<br />
Both stand as (very quickly) rolling testaments to the rather Orwellian notion that while every Veyron is special, some are more special than others. Scope 'em out in the gallery below and follow the jump for the full details in the press release.<br />

If you live in India, your list of available supercars to purchase just grew by one very fast model. <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/bugatti">Bugatti</a> has announced it will begin selling its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/veyron">Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport</a> there. Undeterred by the nation's 110-percent import tax, Bugatti is taking orders for the topless two-door, which will cost about 160 million rupees or $3.6 million USD. For reference, the same model would cost you about $2.24 million here in the United States or &euro;1.6 million in places dealing with Euros. After receiving the orders, the cars will take six to eight months to be delivered<br />

India is a blooming market for luxury goods manufacturers, and <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/ferrari">Ferrari</a> plans to follow Bugatti by shipping over its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ferrari/california">California</a> hardtop convertible sportscar. <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/rolls-royce">Rolls-Royce</a>, <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/jaguar">Jaguar</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/land-rover/">Land Rover</a> are already selling in India... and selling quite well, as the number of Indian millionaires continues to grow.<br />

Being that the end of 2009 also marks the end of a tidy little decade, the editors at the magazine took the opportunity to bestow one important car with the title Car of the Decade - the first time in the 17 years that <em>Robb Report</em> has been handing out automotive awards that it's granted two in one year. So, who won?<br />

First up is the Car of the Year, which goes out to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz/sls+amg">Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG</a>. In taking the award, the SLS AMG beat out 11 other worthy contenders to the throne. Certainly not a terrible choice by any means, though this particular writer has yet to find himself lodged behind the Gullwing's leather-wrapped steering wheel. Moving on, then.<em><br />

Remember <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/21/conan-obrien-gets-satisfaction-from-latest-character-1/">last week's Conan O'Brien stunt</a> where he decided that the best way to get even with NBC for forcing him out of his dream job was to create insanely expensive bits? He dressed a Bugatti Veyron up as a mouse and played some heavily copywritten Rolling Stones. Total purported price tag: $1.5 million dollars. <br />

But see, Conan's not really a car guy. A real car guy would have known that if the plan was to soak NBC for as much green as possible, some plain-old closed top Veyron ain't going to cut it. A real car guy would have got his hands on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/first-drive-bugatti-veyron-16-4-grand-sport-is-a-temple-of-zen/">Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport</a> and its <em>staggering</em> $2.25 million asking price. Have you met <a href="http://auotblog.com/tag/jay+leno">Jay Leno</a>?<br />

That's right, the once and future king of late night television gets his denim-clad paws all over Bugattis' latest and greatest. And - being Jay Leno - he talks about the Grand Sport in the Bugatti wing of his Big Dog Garage. Literally, the Bugatti wing. Jay is also joined by Bugatti's North American Marketing Manager John Hill as well as Veyron hot shoe and former F1 driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel. The latter of which takes Jay for a little ride (ahem) around the quiet streets of Burbank.<br />

For his part, Jay seems extra giddy during this week's episode, as if the Veyron Grand Sport and its removable top have actually tickled and excited him. True, Jay makes a couple of verbal typos, like saying that the Veyron's W16 engine displaces 16.4-liters (it displaces 8.0-liters), but we can forgive him. After all, how cool, calm and composed would you be standing next to a roadster that can hit 253 mph? (That's with the top on, the Grand Sport can "only" hit 217 mph sans roof). There are frightening bills, horrific bills, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/veyron">Bugatti Veyron</a> bills. The legendarily expensive to buy, it seems that the Veyron is equally expensive to keep running, with some pegging yearly <a href="http://www.theprovince.com/World+greatest+supercar+goes+topless/2301597/story.html">running costs at $300,000</a>. It's so expensive, in fact, that <em>Autocar</em> says there's an owner who trailers his car to a particular driving route, then follows behind in a private jet. <br />

<span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"><script> digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/Bugatti_Veyron_So_Expensive_It_s_Cheaper_To_Use_Private_Jet'; </script> <script src=" http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span>Let's just take the tires, for example: in the U.S., the Michelin Pilot Sport 2s fashioned with the Veyron's unique compound cost about $30,000; in the UK they're &pound;23,500 ($38,216 U.S.). Bugatti recommends you change them every 4,000 kilometers, or 2,500 miles, and at every ten thousand miles the company recommends changing the wheels <em>and</em> tires, which runs north of $50,000.<br />
<br />
In between those wheel changes will be things like routine maintenance, with a major annual service setting you back about $20,000. None of this is particularly unexpected so long as you remember the Veyron is more a roadgoing Space Shuttle than a car. And we won't even begin to talk about how expensive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/12/video-low-flying-pelican-ends-up-creating-bugatti-veyron-hydro/">pelican insurance</a> has become...<br />

You didn't <em>really </em>think it was over, did you? The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/17/bugatti-grand-sport-sang-bleu-the-last-special-edition-veyron/">Sang Bleu</a> was supposed to be the last special edition <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bugatti/">Bugatti</a> Veyron, but word (and pictures) on the street suggest otherwise. Exhibit Z: the Grand Sport Blanc Noir edition, which follows the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/15/bugatti-honors-dubai-with-three-special-editions-veyrons/">trio of Dubai specials</a> into the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/veyron">Veyron</a> special sunset.<br />

Apparently created for a high-end clothier, the Veyron Blanc Noir appears to be a one-off (like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/24/how-much-is-that-veyron-in-the-window-unique-pegaso-edition-bug/">Pegaso</a>) rather than a limited-production run (like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/28/bugatti-releases-new-palette-for-veyron-hermes/">Fbg par Hermes</a>). Based on the targa-roofed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/19/pics-aplenty-gettin-bacchus-with-the-bugatti-veyron-grand-spor/">Grand Sport</a>, the Black Noir edition - spotted in California - is all done up, as the name suggests, in black and white: a matte white body with glossy black hood, wheels, spoiler, fuel filler cap and more. That's it, ladies and gents. The seemingly endless train of special edition Bugatti Veyrons has ended. Allegedly. After taking the wraps off the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/04/another-bloody-veyron-presenting-the-sang-noir/">Sang Noir</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/12/frankfurt-2007-the-shiny-invisible-bugatti-pur-sang/">Pur Sang</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/28/bugatti-releases-new-palette-for-veyron-hermes/">Fbg by Hermes</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/16/monterey-2008-bugatti-veyron-16-4-grand-sport/">Grand Sport</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-bleu-centenaire-is-every-bit-as-special-as-any-othe/">Bleu Centenaire</a> and the quartet of individual <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/bugatti-celebrates-100-years-with-four-centenaire-specials-at-vi/">Centenaire tribute editions</a>, to say nothing of the individual specials in between, <em>Auto Motor und Sport </em>says that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/14/bugatti-veyron-grand-sport-sang-bleu-unveiled-in-monterey/">Sang Bleu edition</a> of the Grand Sport which Bugatti <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/15/monterey-2009-bugatti-grand-sport-sang-bleu-live-from-the-quail/">unveiled at this past weekend's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance</a> will be the last special edition Veyron that Molsheim will build. With a reported 250 out of the 300 Veyrons initially earmarked for production now built and sold, Bugatti's moving on to its next project, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/24/report-we-may-not-see-the-bugatti-bordeaux-at-frankfurt-show-af/">tentatively dubbed Bordeaux</a>. At which point the whole shpeil will presumably start all over again.<br />

How many special edition Bugatti Veyrons are there? There's the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/12/frankfurt-2007-the-shiny-invisible-bugatti-pur-sang/">Pur Sang</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-bleu-centenaire-is-every-bit-as-special-as-any-othe/">Bleu Centenaire</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/04/another-bloody-veyron-presenting-the-sang-noir/">Sang Noir</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/04/geneva-2008-bugatti-veyron-fbg-by-hermes-scepter-and-empire-no/">Fbg by Hermes</a>, not to mention the countless examples that have either been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/02/the-midas-touch-gold-plated-bugatti-veyron-delivered-to-middle/">painted gold</a> or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/19/mansory-builds-mysterious-bugatti-veyron-vincero/">chrome</a> by bored sheiks who've spent too much time in the sun. The targa-fied Veyron, otherwise known as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/first-drive-bugatti-veyron-16-4-grand-sport-is-a-temple-of-zen/">Grand Sport</a>, has been around a lot less time than its closed roof counterpart, but it's about time the open roof Bug got a special edition of its own. Enter the Grand Sport "Sang Bleu" that's being unveiled by Bugatti this weekend in Monterey. <br />
<br />
The "Sang Bleu" is set off by its unique two-tone color combination that isn't the result of opening a couple new cans of paint back at the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, France, but rather combining two materials: carbon fiber and aluminum. The shiny parts are, of course, the al-yoo-mini-um of which we spoke, but the royal blue you see is a specially tinted carbon fiber. The only other differences between the "Sang Bleu" and a normal Grand Sport are that the rear airscoops are also body color, and the wheels are a unique design with a Midnight Blue and Diamond Cut finish. <br />
<br />
Only 20 standard Grand Sports have been ordered and far less actually delivered, so the "Sang Bleu" stands as the rarest Veyron of them all right now. There's only one and Bugatti doesn't mention anything about it going into limited production, but considering the brand's penchant for making special editions, we expect the "Sang Bleu" will be available for anyone with anyone with a couple million bucks to trade.<br />

<br /> Just like the last time, when we drove the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/28/first-drive-bugatti-veyron/">Bugatti Veyron</a>, it began with an e-mail from Bugatti's PR firm: "Give me a call when you have a moment." And then, again, just like the last time, there came the question: "We have a Grand Sport. Can you do something with it?" Let. Me. See. <br /> <br /> And that's how we ended up spending a day with the roofless Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport on a reference-resetting trip from Los Angeles to San Diego and back. <br />Production of the Veyron Grand Sport, Bugatti's roadster version of the ultimate super car, is just getting underway at the automaker's factory in Molsheim, France. Accordingly, Bugatti has released a batch of new high-res pics that were taken last year in such places as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bugatti-veyron-16-4-grand-sport/2094590/">Napa Valley</a> (hence the wine reference), <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bugatti-veyron-16-4-grand-sport/2094595/">Rome</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bugatti-veyron-16-4-grand-sport/2094575/">Sardinia</a> when the car debuted. Now, keep in mind, you don't just take a Sawzall to a Veyron's roof and get a Grand Sport. The GS gets a higher windscreen, daytime running lights and a transparent polycarbonate roof panel or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bugatti-veyron-16-4-grand-sport/2094582/">umbrella-like soft top</a>. There's also enough extra bracing beneath the carbon fiber skin to survive a black hole, and the two large air intakes above the engine are now reinforced to act as rollover bars.<br /><br />The Veyron GS can go nearly 253 mph with its roof panel on, almost as fast as the straight coupe. Sans roof panel it can still hit almost 224 mph, and the soft top brings things down a top speed of just 99 mph. Only 150 units will be made, which means the 1.4 million euro Veyron Grand Sport is an ultra exclusive version of an already ultra exclusive car.
