Spy shots and see-through body treatments are all we have to go on when it comes to the upcoming Subaru BRZ. We've had enough of that, however, and it seems Subaru is finally ready to show us a bit more of what's in store for the future sports coupe. According to Car and Driver, the Japanese automaker will unveil a concept version of the BRZ at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, and it will be wearing real sheetmetal this time, albeit with a wrinkle - none of the showcar's panels will be the same as the production car.

The BRZ that you will be able to buy will (finally) make its official debut later on at the Tokyo Motor Show, where it will join its Toyota FT-86/Scion FRS siblings. According to C/D, all three versions of the car will wear similar body panels with the exception of their faces. Subaru will apply its own mug, while the Toyota and Scion versions will be essentially identical with the exception of badging.

Subaru will be responsible for production of all three versions, and the sporty coupe will be built at the Japanese automaker's Gunma, Japan facility. There the cars will be fitted with 2.0-liter boxer engines and paired with either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox.
Subaru BRZ concept headed for Los Angeles as new details leak out originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 21 Sep 2011 14:00:00 EST.
The wait is over... almost. According to a report from Inside Line that jives with what we've been hearing ourselves, Toyota (or Scion, or both) and Subaru are set to use the Tokyo Motor Show to jointly unveil the hotly anticipated rear-wheel-drive sport coupes that they have been working on together since what seems like the beginning of time.

Yes, that means we need to sit back and keep waiting until December, but at least it's some sort of real real date to mark on the calendar, right? Until then, you'll just have to be content with what is sure to be an endless series of spy shots and leaked information on the affordable sportscar duo.

Inside Line also offers something of a timetable for production, saying that the Scion FR-S will hit American shores sometime in 2012 (rather nebulous, no?) while the unnamed Subaru version will begin production in the spring of the same year.
Toyota and Subaru to unveil production sport coupes in Tokyo? originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 20 May 2011 16:30:00 EST.
Peanut butter and jelly. Beer and brats. Wine and cheese. Subaru and all-wheel drive. It's true - Subaru has done an enviable job convincing Americans that its automobiles are synomous with all-wheel drive, and the idea of a Subie that eschews four driven wheels for a powertrain sending its horsepower to the rear wheels only sounds like heresey to the diehard WRX driver.

But it shouldn't... at least, that's what Subaru is now trying to convince the masses with its new rear-wheel-drive Boxer Sports Car Architecture. It's worth noting that the automaker has confirmed for the first time here at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show that the upcoming production version of this sports car is coming to America. If all goes to plan, production will commence in the spring of 2012 at a Subaru production plant in Japan.
