Prior to declaring bankruptcy, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/">General Motors</a> began delaying new products in an effort to conserve cash. The news was disappointing to enthusiasts and brand loyalists, but with its cash piles dwindling, the General didn't have many alternatives. Post-bankruptcy, GM finds itself with $40 billion in cash and a lot less overhead, so where is the money being spent? <em>Automotive News</em> reports that Vice Chairman Bob Lutz confirms that many of the products that were delayed are now being accelerated, adding "Once we got out of the bankruptcy and started having money available, we were able to pull a lot of our programs forward."<br />
<br />
One example of the pull-forward is the next-generation <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/malibu">Chevrolet Malibu</a>. Early this Fall, GM told us that the next Malibu would arrive in 2012, but Lutz says that time frame has been pulled up to 2011. The next Malibu will reportedly be all-new with a platform based off of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/">Buick LaCrosse </a>and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/regal">2011 Buick Regal</a>. The new 'Bu will apparently have a shorter wheelbase than the current model while still managing more interior room.<br />

Lutz told <em>AN</em> that the uplevel Malibu will have chrome appliques lining the side windows, a trait he says is associated with German and Japanese luxury vehicles. Lutz apparently added that $50 worth of chrome translates into an additional $500 to $600 in perceived value to customers. Beyond the Malibu, Lutz noted that there are "a bunch" of other vehicles being pulled forward to pre-bankruptcy production cadences, though he didn't offer any specific examples.<br />

This guy. So, some of you no doubt remember the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/19/cadillac-cts-v-challenge-nets-120-applicants-heinricy-to-stand/">Cadillac CTS-V Challenge</a>. If you don't, here's a refresher: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/">General Motors </a>vice-chairman Maximum Bob Lutz challenged any journalist to bring a CTS-V competitor to California's Laguna Seca where the 77-year-old Lutz would mop the floor with he/she and whatever fancy-pants, Euro sedan they done brung. Of course, the event got moved to New York's Monticello Motor Club, and to guarantee that the Cadillac didn't lose, GM brought in a backup pilot, John Hienricy, the company's noted hot shoe engineer and race car driver. And then every other manufacturer (Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar) decided not to play into GM's marketing ploy, and withdrew their <strike>cars'</strike> support. <br />
<br />
To be frank, we here at Autoblog toyed with the idea of throwing our hoon-hat in the ring, but after Heinricy became Cadillac's ace in the hole, we figured the whole challenge was unwinnable (we've driven with Mr. Heinricy - he's <em>that</em> good). While it would no doubt have been fun, totally playing into General Motor's hands like that (by <em>also</em> losing), well, not so much. Luckily, privateer Michael Cooper and his BMW M3 wasn't in on our conference call. <br />
<br />
Mr. Cooper showed up to the Caddy Challenge and laid down a 2:50.424, beating not only Bob Lutz's 2:56.321 in the way more powerful CTS-V, but our pals Lawrence Ulrich (2:53:026) and Jack Baruth (2:51:153), both of whom were driving the big supercharged Caddy. Not surprisingly, Heinricy blew the doors off of every single person, ripping off a 2:46.560. Probably while flossing. But let's not overlook young Michael Cooper, who with 142 less horsepower and a boatload less torque to work with came in less than four seconds behind John (ringer <em>*cough*</em> ringer) Hienricy. <br />
<br />
BMW was so taken by Mr. Cooper's feat of good driving that they reportedly invited him down to their North American headquarters in New Jersey and gave him a BMW Performance Multifunction Steering Wheel. How else to thank the guy that tossed such an effective monkey wrench into GM's marketing plans? BMW installed the wheel in Cooper's M3 while he was given a ride in a special BMW Performance enhanced 335i Sedan. So, one more time, a hearty Autoblog congratulations to Michael Cooper and his Cadillac CTS-V challenging BMW M3. The one with the fancy new steering wheel. <br />

<p>Having just been appointed interim CEO at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/">General Motors</a> earlier this week, ex-AT&amp;T man Ed Whitacre isn't wasting any time in exercising his newfound authority. According to <em>The Wall Street Journal</em>, Whitacre is to announce a number of management changes this morning, including moving Vice Chairman Bob Lutz from his role in marketing to a more product planning-focused role. Whitacre is also expected to promote some of the company's younger managers to new positions, although it has not yet been revealed who is targeted.</p>
<p>According to the WSJ, Whitacre "drew up the new management blueprint in a matter of four hours," suggesting to us that he already had a number of changes in mind. Further, he is also expected to combine GM's sales and marketing divisions</p>
<p>While Whitacre has only been on the job since Tuesday and he is technically only considered an interim appointment at this time, the search for a new CEO is thought likely to take months, if not a year. From the looks of things, Whitacre isn't looking at himself as simply a placeholder, though, and we wouldn't be surprised to see more changes as the weeks and months roll by.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">*UPDATE:</span><span style="font-style: italic;"> Changes confirmed: GM has issued a press release (viewable <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/04/breaking-whitacre-reportedly-to-announce-management-shakeups-at/#continued">after the jump</a>). Among the moves, Bob Lutz will be an 'advisor' on design and global product - he will retain his title of vice chairman. Other changes include Mark Reuss named as president of GM North America, Susan Docherty appointed VP, vehicle sales, service, and marketing operations. We're here in the City of Angels to watch Fritz Henderson deliver GM's keynote address to the all us media types here at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/LAAutoShow/">LA Auto Show</a>. Only thing is, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/01/breaking-gm-ceo-fritz-henderson-steps-down/">Fritz resigned yesterday</a>, and for some reason interim CEO Ed Whitacre will not be delivering the keynote. Which can only mean one thing -- GM's Vice Chairman of Marketing and Communications Bob Lutz will be delivering the opening address. Are you as excited as we are? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/01/breaking-gm-ceo-fritz-henderson-steps-down/">Fritz Henderson's unexpected resignation</a> may have taken top billing today, but it wasn't the only move announced by General Motors today. Michael Richards has been named the new General Manager of Buick GMC effective immediately, with the automaker looking from outside the company to fill the roll. Richards replaces Susan Docherty, who was <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/08/fritz-picks-susan-docherty-to-replace-laneve/">named Vice President of US Sales in October</a>. Richards joins GM after a short stint at Trilogy Automotive in Austin, Texas, where he led the use of digital and Internet-based solutions. Richards also worked as a consultant for JD Power where he launched tools for improved vehicle launch profitability and customer satisfaction.<br />
<br />
The bulk of Richards' experience comes from cross-town rival Ford where he worked from 1981-2008. Richards was most recently the marketing brand manager for Lincoln Mercury from 2006-2008. Prior to that he worked as the general sales manager for Ford Customer Service from 2002-2006.<br />
<br />
Regardless of where Richards received his management chops, Vice Chairman and Marketing and Communications chief Bob Lutz likes what he has with the long-time Ford man. "We are pleased to have Mike as a member of the GM family. His vast sales and marketing experience will be invaluable in his new role, as he leads the team building the Buick and GMC brands."<br />

There's an odd bit of historical <em>deja vu</em> at work here. Back in the late '60s and early '70s, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/">General Motors</a> wanted to shift a few sporty-ish four-cylinder models from its Opel division into America, so they turned to their <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/buick/">Buick</a> dealers. This didn't work out exactly as planned - merchandising these odd European ducks in an outlet best known for sober doctor's cars meant that the GT, Manta and Kadett never managed to make much of a dent in North America's automotive landscape. This time out, with the Opel Insignia-derived <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/regal">2011 Buick </a><a href="http://www.getcarspecs.com/buick/">Regal</a>, GM knows it needs massively better results.<br />

While attending an early drive event for the new Regal last week, we reminded vice-chairman Bob Lutz about the last time his company attempted to sell Opels in Buick showrooms. He laughed his trademark raspy laugh, and reminded us that <span style="font-style: italic;">Car and Driver</span> so loathed the 1968 Kadett that their review featured it photographed in a junkyard. With characteristic candor, Lutz tells us, "It actually wasn't a very good car." Of course, Maximum Bob knows full well that GM can't afford another lost in space Kadett. Apparently, if you put Bob Lutz in a room filled with journalists asking pointed questions about specific vehicles, you won't get the industry-standard "we don't comment on future product" line. Following Maximum Bob's recent revelations about the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/report-c-d-says-lutz-confirms-cadillac-cts-v-sport-wagon/">CTS-V Sport Wagon and Coupe</a>, along with a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/report-lutz-says-next-chevy-impala-to-stay-front-drive-gain-hy/">hybrid Chevrolet Impala</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/15/rumormill-bob-lutz-drops-more-buick-regal-gs-high-performance/">Buick Regal GS</a> and a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/rumormill-holden-based-rwd-2012-chevy-ss-coming-after-all/">Caprice SS</a>, when InsideLine asked Lutz about a twin-turbo version of the Chevrolet Camaro he simply responded "perhaps."<br />

In addition to confirming a production version of the limited edition <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/03/sema-2009-handful-of-chevy-camaro-concepts-preview-new-options/">Camaro Synergy shown at SEMA</a> and murdered-out Camaro, Lutz hinted at the possibility of a production version of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/03/sema-2009-jay-leno-camaro-a-pre-emptive-strike-against-ecoboost/">the boosted, 425-hp V6 Camaro GM created for Jay Leno</a> for this month's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/SEMA/">SEMA</a> show. While it's far from a confirmation - and we all know how these things go with Lutz - it could be an indication that Chevrolet may be looking to beat Ford to the punch by offering a turbo'd version of its pony car. The only question now is when we'll receive an email from GM's PR team issuing the prerequisite denials... or an announcement that Fritz Henderson will require Lutz to wear a ball-gag at all future media events.<br />

Between the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/15/rumormill-bob-lutz-drops-more-buick-regal-gs-high-performance/">Buick Regal GS</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/report-lutz-says-next-chevy-impala-to-stay-front-drive-gain-hy/">front-wheel drive (and possible hybrid) Chevrolet Impala</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/rumormill-holden-based-rwd-2012-chevy-ss-coming-after-all/">rumored Caprice SS</a>, Bob Lutz has managed to release a scad officially unofficial details on General Motors' future product plans over the last two days. And now comes this.<br />

Speaking with Car and Driver, Maximum Bob went into Maximum Bloviation mode when discussing the Buick Regal wagon, and then ostensibly confirmed that the Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon has been given the green light by saying, "You'll be able to get the CTS-V any way you want." Meaning: the CTS-V will be available in both coupe and five-door variants.<br />
<br />
Naturally, anything that jumps out of Lutz' mouth should be taken with an extra helping of NaCl, as his past off-hand announcements haven't always come to fruition. Regardless, creating the duo of CTS-Vs is damn easy and we're hoping to see both in production form next year.<br />

<br /> If it's Monday, there must be a big, rear-wheel drive Chevrolet four-door coming soon. Tuesday? We'll retract and deny everything. We know, we know. We also know we just reported that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/report-lutz-says-next-chevy-impala-to-stay-front-drive-gain-hy/">the next Chevy Impala will remain front-wheel drive</a> - but check this out. We've been hearing rumors for some time now, that despite whatever <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/16/one-last-time-henderson-slams-door-on-pontiac-g8-revival/">Fritz Henderson has to say on the matter</a>, a high-performance version of General Motors' Zeta platform that underpins the Pontiac G8 will live on as a Chevy SS model, either badged as a Caprice or (more likely) an Impala. And we're not talking the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2011-chevrolet-caprice-police-car">police special</a>. As Maximum Bob has said, the G8 is "<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/14/gm-beginning-to-backpedal-on-lutz-g8-turning-caprice-comments/">Kinda too good to waste.</a>" Needless to say, we totally agree. <br /> <br /> An eagle-eye'd AB reader named Jim just caught the following on a <a href="http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?p=394000">Pontiac G8 forum</a>:<br /> <blockquote>

In an email sent back to the dealer, GM says that they have no plans to solve what has already been built but going forward a correction is planned. Remember those AWESOME rumors about the rear-wheel drive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/11/lutz-pontiac-g8-to-continue-as-chevy-caprice-in-u-s-z28-likel/">Pontiac G8 living on as a Chevy Caprice</a>? Not going to happen, though used <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/05/the-cops-get-a-zeta-sedan-gm-unveils-355-hp-chevy-caprice-polic/">Chevy cop cars</a> will still be the hot Christmas item come 2017 or so. <a href="http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2009/11/next-impala-definitely-front-wheel-drive-hybrid-version-coming.html"><em>Inside Line's</em> Ed Hellwig</a> reports that after a sit down meeting with General Motors' Maximum Bob Lutz, not only won't there be a true successor to the 1994-1996 Impala SS, but the next Impala will remain front-wheel drive. <br />

The new Impala will get bigger says <em>IL</em>, and add features - probably in an attempt to keep up with the hefty and tech-laden <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/FordTaurus/">Ford Taurus</a>. Lutz mentions that the new Impala will not only sport decent fuel economy, but also feature GM's hybrid technology. Whether or not this means a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ChevyVolt/">Chevy Volt</a> style gas-electric powertrain or the General's next-generation belt-alternator mild hybrid system isn't clear. All we know is, once <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/11/while-supplies-last-pontiac-says-only-16-g8-gxps-left-at-u-s-d/">the few, still-lingering-on dealer-lots G8s</a> are gone, they are gone baby, <em>gone</em>.<br />

<br /> Last night General Motors' superstar train blew into Los Angeles for a gala event at one of Hollywood's most iconic theaters, the Palladium. Designed by Hoover Dam architect Gordon Kaufman and opened by a $1 Frank Sinatra concert in 1940, the Palladium has played host to a who's who of music superstars including James Brown, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Madonna and the Pixies. <br /> <br /> The Palladium wasn't just for music. President Jack Kennedy held a dinner there in 1961, and Martin Luther King Jr. was honored at the Palladium in 1965 after he received the Nobel Peace Prize. However, the Palladium's fortunes declined. Things got so bad that it was forced to close down for eight weeks in the early '90s. Recently, however, the Hollywood Palladium underwent a multi-million dollar renovation that successfully returned the theater to its former glory. Electric cars are for those who would rather drive slow, boring commuters that don't consume fossil fuels and therefore don't spew pollutants from their tailpipes. Gas-powered cars - and especially those wearing time-honored badges like SS, R/T or GT - are for those who prefer fire-breathing, tire-screeching performance and care much more about nitrous oxide than nitrogen oxide. Right? Not so fast, says Bob Lutz.<br />

When asked whether or not Chevy could shock the performance crowd with an SS version of the upcoming Volt, Lutz said, "I would not discount that possibility." That's as close as you're going to get to an admission of intent this early in the game. Lutz goes on to suggest that the Voltec powertrain will allow for plenty of on-demand power. "[I]f we want to sacrifice a little bit of fuel efficiency in the interest of performance and still get over 200 miles per gallon, we can do that any time."<br />

Following the same logical train of thought, we could certainly see a V-Series of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/09/breaking-i-detroit-news-i-says-gm-will-build-cadillac-converj/">Cadillac Converj</a>. After much <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/25/report-cadillac-converj-has-a-new-lease-on-life-maybe/">hemming</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/14/general-motors-reportedly-approves-cadillac-converj-for-producti/">hawing</a>, General Motors will reportedly build a version of the Cadillac Converj, the gorgeous but awkwardly named extended-range coupe concept <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/11/detroit-2009-cadillac-converj-with-video/">first shown</a> at last year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Detroit-Auto-Show/">Detroit Auto Show</a>. According to <em>The Detroit News</em>, the Converj will probably take a few years to reach dealer showrooms, as GM will first direct its efforts on launching the Chevrolet Volt, the more affordable sedan with which it is likely to share much of its Voltec drivetrain architecture.<br />
<br />
From where we sit, the Converj seems like a natural move for GM, as Cadillac's higher margins should help offset the research, development, and production costs of everything from the Volt's lithium ion batteries to its motors and control modules. For its part, however, Cadillac is still declining to comment on the story, and the DetNews story doesn't name a source.<br />
<br />
Either way, GM vice chairman Bob Lutz has previously gone on record as a champion of a production Converj, and he has said that a serial version would look very similar to the 2009 showcar - in much the same way that the Camaro evolved from concept to production. As the concept was gorgeous, we're down with that - we only hope it doesn't take as long to build as the Bowtie's broad-shouldered muscle car.<br />

Just hours before General Motors announced that it <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/03/breaking-breagm-board-opts-to-call-off-opel-sale/">wasn't going to sell Opel</a>, GM Europe head Carl-Peter Forster said publicly that Opel would be better off under the control of Magna. Talk about bad timing. Now that GM is keeping Opel, Forster is out as the head of the General's European operations. A couple of familiar names will step in, at least on an interim basis. <br />
<br />
<em>Bloomberg</em> reports that GM Vice Chairman and head of Marketing and Communications Bob Lutz is taking over as interim chairman of the Opel supervisory board until a permanent leader can be chosen. The bombastic Lutz has suddenly found himself with increasing responsibility after semi-retiring back in April. Fellow GM exec Nick Reilly will lead the Opel and Vauxhall units until a replacement can be found. <br />
<br />
GM CEO Fritz Henderson said in a statement that the hunt is on for a new Opel CEO and that no other management moves were imminent. Henderson went on to say that Opel improved under Forster, which is a real compliment when you consider that Forster replaced Fritz as head of GM Europe back in 2004. Word on the street is that GM could pick a German executive for the Opel post, due mostly to the fact that Germany <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/03/breaking-breagm-board-opts-to-call-off-opel-sale/">wasn't very happy</a> about GM's decision to scuttle the sale to Magna. Magna's plan called for fewer layoffs within Germany and more in other European countries.<br />

In less than a week, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/19/cadillac-cts-v-challenge-nets-120-applicants-heinricy-to-stand">Bob Lutz</a> will be joined by a few automotive journalists and a handful of regular Joes at the <a href="http://www.monticellomotorclub.com/">Monticello Motor Club</a> in New York to race some fast sedans around a fast track to see if anything with four doors can outrun a Cadillac CTS-V. Sounds like fun. But, after reading through the preliminary list of applicants The General has accepted, it's looking more and more like the cards are stacked heavily in GM's favor.<br />
<br />
The three participating journalists include Jalopnik's Wes Siler, who will be racing Lutz in a Jaguar XFR; Jack Baruth representing The Truth About Cars and freelancer and <em>New York Times</em> contributor Lawrence Ulrich. We have no idea what the latter two journos will be piloting, but we do know that four private car owners will bring along their personal contenders: a BMW M3, a BMW M5, an Audi RS4 and finally, a, um, Cadillac CTS-V.<br />
<br />
According to GM's Cadillac Notes Blog, there's room for a couple more contestants... and we're really hoping that someone (preferably someone with track experience) steps up to the plate with a Porsche Panamera and something with AMG written across the decklid to turn this into a proper sampling of potential spoilers.<br />

Behind the wheel of a Cadillac CTS-V, Bob Lutz will take on the competition in a run-what-you-brung type shoot out against players chosen by GM from the automotive media and general population. The video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/23/video-bob-lutz-prepares-for-v-series-challenge-at-monticello/#continued">after the jump</a> shows Lutz already on site practicing his lines on Monticello's 22-turn track (we're not sure yet what track configuration will be used). Maximum Bob will clearly have an advantage in terms of knowing the track, though General Motors is also bringing along ace pilot and former GMer John Heinricy in case the competition comes with some pro-am or above drivers.<br />

Sounds like a good time, though we've heard through the grapevine that despite receiving around 120 applicants, the five vehicles chosen by GM to take on the CTS-V don't stand much of a chance. One we do know that will be present is a Jaguar XFR piloted by Wes Siler from <em>Jalopnik</em>. <br />
<br />
We also asked Porsche about this whole business, since it would seem that the Panamera Turbo has one of the best shots at beating a CTS-V. Unless an actual owner was chosen by GM to be a challenger, however, there won't be a Panamera Turbo present. Porsche told us that they weren't approving any loans of the Panamera Turbo to the media for this event, and we've heard rumblings of the same sort from Mercedes-Benz concerning its AMG-fortified hardware. <br />

We can't blame them. This is a GM event and the deck is stacked in their favor. Letting an auto journalist represent your brand in this super sedan pissing contest seems like a lose-lose proposition for any automaker in its right mind. Jaguar apparently disagrees, but we'll see what happens come October 29.<br />

UPDATE: GM got in touch with us to clarify that the video footage was shot at the company's Milford Proving Grounds, and that Lutz has never raced at Monticello before.<br />

We knew when General Motors opened up the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/14/cts-v-challenge-opened-up-to-any-would-be-caddy-killers/">CTS-V Challenge to any and all Caddy killers</a> the response would be impressive, and according to Cadillac spokesman Nick Twork, it's been just that.<br />
<br />
Around 120 people applied for a chance to take on Bob Lutz in the CTS-V sedan later this month, but that doesn't mean we'll be seeing dozens of would-be contenders lining the Monticello Motor Club in New York on October 29. Twork told InsideLine that his team is currently whittling down the applicants based on the rules (an unmodified sedan similar in capabilities to the CTS-V) and while "about three-quarters of them were in the spirit of the contest... there were some like, 'I've got a Porsche GT3 RS blah, blah, blah.'"<br />
<br />
We should expect between five and ten participants in total, and just in case, John Heinricy, pro racer and former GM engineer, will be on hand to, "be used at the discretion of Mr. Lutz." Read: if you're a professional racer, you're going to be tangling with someone of similar caliber.<br />
<br />
All the entrants should be picked out by tomorrow, so if you applied for a chance to take on Lutz (or more likely, Heinricy), expect a confirmation (or denial) within the next few days.<br />

<br /> May the best car win. <a href="http://cadillac.gmblogs.com/2009/10/13/may-the-best-car-win-in-action/">So says General Motors' Bob Lutz</a>, and he's willing to put his Pilotis where his mouth is... so to speak. On a conference call last month, Maximum Bob challenged any journalist to a duel with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v-supercar-performance-everyday-driv/">Cadillac CTS-V</a>, and, not surprisingly, the mantle was picked up right quick by the boys at Jalopnik.<br /> <br /> Rules? Sorta. Any stock production four-door sedan is reportedly eligible to go up against the Big V, and the drivers will be lining up against the clock on October 29 at the Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, N.Y. While Jalop's Wes Siler was originally slated to go up against Lutz in a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, that car has since been switched out in favor of the Jaguar XFR (earning <a href="http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/ttacs-jack-baruth-to-take-on-gms-bob-lutz-in-luxury-sedan-shootout/">the ire of TTAC</a> in the process).<br /> <br /> Here's the best part: Anyone who happens to own a new comparable sport sedan, such as a BMW M3 or M5, perhaps a Mercedes-Benz AMG sedan or the Audi S4 (not to mention the Mitsubishi Evolution), is welcome to submit themselves for consideration to take part in the festivities in New York. When Bob Lutz came to General Motors, he was charged with turning around the company's unimaginative product development. In Maximum Bob part deux, GM's most senior leader is turning his attention to marketing, where the Detroit automaker has been less than cutting edge. Lutz appears to be spending a lot of his time focusing on Buick, a brand turning the corner in terms of product while also simultaneously messing the bed with those awful "Take a look at me now" commercials that have drawn the praise of absolutely nobody. <br />
<br />
Blogger Bob is set to unveil an all new marketing campaign for Buick titled "The new class of world class," which aims to sell new products like the critically acclaimed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/lacrosse">2010 LaCrosse</a>. Lutz has said that he wants the new commercials to better convey the design and function of the Buick lineup. He seems to like what he sees from the new spots, which have yet to be aired. Automotive News quoted Lutz as calling the spots "aggressive stuff." We're looking forward to to seeing them ourselves, as long as they don't involve an annoying guy with a bull horn and an Enclave by the pool.<br />
