If you're still on the fence about planning that skiing getaway to the idyllic Hochzillertal resort in Austria's Zillertal Valley, consider this: swag awaits. In the fervent battle to temp vacationers with the most luxurious accommodations, the resort is set to offer a ride to the slopes that is unlike any other.

Gondola maker Leitner Ropeways has teamed up with the bespoke specialists at BMW Individual, to create a uniquely luxurious ski-lift experience. This tricked out "ropeway" offers comforts that come directly from BMW's 7 Series: heated, massaging, Merino leather-clad seats, an Alcantara headliner, a multimedia system controlled via iDrive and even a spot to stow some champagne. Taking a ride through the sky can be thirsty business.

What price decadence? For those that get started early, the resort is offering a package that includes VIP parking, a bottle of bubbly, brunch, the BMW gondola ride (naturally) and more, for 150 euro. If you're more of a late starter you'll have to pony up 190 euro for more or less the same laundry list of luxuries.
Continue reading Ski in style with BMW 7 Series-like gondola

Ski in style with BMW 7 Series-like gondola originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 22 Nov 2012 09:55:00 EST.
BMW has been pretty busy with cars wearing a "6" this year following the rollouts of the new 6 Series Gran Coupe and, more recently, the high-performance M6. Now the automaker is getting ready to introduce two low-volume variants of the 6 Series Coupe and the X6 crossover. The 2013 BMW 650i Coupe Frozen Silver Edition and 2013 BMW Individual X6 Performance Edition are both limited-production models aimed at showing off exclusive tailoring available through BMW Individual.

The first of these to hit the showrooms will be the BMW Individual X6 Performance Edition, which will be limited to 100 total units split between xDrive35i and xDrive50i models. The former starts at $81,695, the latter at $92,895. BMW Individual adds its exclusive Pearl Silver metallic paint, 20-inch wheels and black chrome exhaust tips on the outside, while the cabin gets black Alcantara and leather appointments with orange contrast stitching. Carbon Leather Wrapped Trim from BMW Individual adorns the instrument panel and center console. Additional power comes via the M Performance Package, while otherwise optional equipment packages are made standard to up the level of amenities.

Limited to just 55 total units, the BMW 650i Coupe Frozen Silver Edition is available with rear-wheel-drive for $99,295 or xDrive for $102,965. This car starts off with BMW Individual's Frozen Silver paint, M aerodynamic kit, 20-inch wheels, black chrome exhaust outlets and black-painted mirror caps and brake calipers. The Frozen Silver Edition gets similar Alcantara and leather treatments as the X6 Performance Edition, but it uses black Nappa leather with wood accents.

The Individual X6 Performance Edition will go on sale in December with the 650i Coupe Frozen Silver Edition hitting dealers in mid-January.
Continue reading BMW offers X6 Performance Edition and 6 Series in Frozen Silver

BMW offers X6 Performance Edition and 6 Series in Frozen Silver originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 21 Oct 2012 10:01:00 EST.
Some may deride it as dressed-up plastic - and in some cases it is exactly that - but piano black lacquer trim is now regularly seen in luxury automobile interiors. BMW's custom-appointment division, however, has taken things a step further.

Teaming up with Steinway & Sons, BMW Individual presents the 7 Series Composition. The unique trim level can be ordered in either an ebony or ivory finish with a special three-layer clearcoat. A gold pinstripe and special 20-inch wheels further distinguish the exterior, while the passenger compartment is decked out in merino leather (black or white to contrast, not match, the exterior), lambswool carpets, Alcantara headliner, special embroidery, and, of course, piano black trim.

Though the images in the gallery below show a hybrid model, BMW Individual will similarly equip any car in the 7 Series range for the big concerto. Details in the press release after the jump.

When the second generation X3 goes on sale early next year BMW wants more of its American customers to start special ordering the crossovers rather than buying them off the lot. Custom orders are more the norm in Europe where about half of all BMWs are spec'd up before being delivered to the buyer, and BMW has been promoting its Individual program which allows customers to pick and choose the colors and materials in their vehicles.

The advantage to BMW is that these optioned vehicles have much higher profit margins than the standard configurations typically stocked by dealers. If BMW can succeed in getting more custom orders for the X3 and other models it will improve the bottom line for both its dealers and the automaker as lots won't have to stock nearly as much inventory. The biggest problem is changing American's desire to show up at a dealer and drive something off the lot that day.

Promoting build-to-order will be much easier with the new X3 because production of the new model will be moved from Austria to the recently expanded Spartanburg plant in South Carolina. Building the crossovers here will allow BMW to drastically cut delivery times and BMW will also be more heavily promoting its factory delivery program and the driving classes it offers at the adjacent Performance Center.
