While most of the automotive world has been focused on The City of Angels for the LA Auto Show, BMW snuck in an opportunity to shoot its new 2014 3 Series Gran Turismo just a couple miles away from the LA Convention Center, and give us our first undisguised look at the upcoming hatchback. We've seen camouflaged test mules for the 3 Series GT in the past, and while we had expected the car to debut at the Paris Motor Show in September, it now sounds like the car will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

In what looks to be production trim shooting for a commercial (or some sort of video), these new spy shots show the 3 Series GT in two different trim levels. The brown car looks like the standard version of the design while the silver car is an M Sport package as evident by its aggressive body kit, upgraded wheels and brakes and the M badges on the fenders. Other than the obvious fastback-style roofline, it appears that the GT will get its own unique sheet metal (including a redesigned front end) compared to the latest 3 Series sedan. Two things we can't tell about the car from these spy shots are what the interior will look like and whether or not it will be using a similar two-mode hatchback as the 5 Series GT that features a smaller sedan-like trunk opening or a larger liftgate opening.

Like the 5 Series GT, this new 3 Series model focuses on expanding the passenger and cargo volume of the car with a longer wheelbase (reportedly riding on the same wheelbase as the Chinese-market, long-wheelbase 3 Series sedan) and a longer, taller, rounder roofline.
BMW 3 Series GT caught uncovered filming commercial originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 03 Dec 2012 13:00:00 EST.
