<br />
If <a href="http://autoblog.com/bmw">BMW</a> isn't willing to give us an authentic M-ified <a href="http://autoblog.com/bmw/1-series">1 Series</a>, we'll have to settle for the next best thing, and that's the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/24/bmw-m135i-concept-blends-turbo-heart-with-three-door-hatch-shell/">M135i</a>, the latest performance package from the marque's motorsport division.<br />
<br />
Based off the three-door F20 variant of the Euro-only 1 Series, the M135i isn't quite the 1er/<a href="http://autoblog.com/bmw/m3">M3</a> lovechild of the dearly beloved <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/1+series+m/">1 Series M Coupe</a>, but it's still packing BMW's tried-and-true-and-tunable turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, putting out more than 300 horsepower presumably through a six-speed manual gearbox.<br />
<br />
Beefed-up brakes, tweaked suspension bits and 18-inch M-branded wheels are fitted at each corner, while restyled front and rear fascias round out the rest of the exterior mods.<br />
<br />
We've heard through the grapevine that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/26/bmw-m135i-will-be-produced-offer-xdrive/">M135i has already been approved for production</a>, both in rear-wheel-drive and xDrive trim for Europe (except the UK), but considering the F20 still hasn't come Stateside, don't expect the M135i to make the trek... yet.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/07/bmw-m135i-concept-is-a-behatched-successor-to-our-favorite-1er/">BMW M135i Concept is a behatched successor to our favorite 1er</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 07 Mar 2012 06:01:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>BMW 1 Series M Coupe - Click above to view the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/07/08/video-bmw-teases-1-series-m-coupe/#continued">after the jump</a></small></strong></em></div>
<br />
We've waited a long time for this. And not just for the official name. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> has released the first teaser video of its upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/1SeriesMCoupe/">1 Series M Coupe</a> and "excited" doesn't begin to describe how we're feeling.<br />
<br />
The video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/07/08/video-bmw-teases-1-series-m-coupe/#continued">after the jump</a> is devoid of hard details, but it confirms what we've seen in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/13/spy-shots-and-video-bmw-m1-1-series-m-laps-the-ring/">countless</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/12/spy-shots-hi-po-bmw-1-series-prototype-flashes-quad-tailpipes-t/">spy</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m1-1-m-135is-135-tii/">shots</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/06/report-details-on-2011-bmw-m1-trickle-out/">rumors</a> that have <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/02/report-bmw-m1-135is-to-go-on-sale-in-q2-of-2011/">made</a> the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/08/report-more-details-on-bmws-rumored-m1-s/">rounds</a> for nearly a year.<br />
<br />
Early reports indicate that the twin-turbocharged inline-six (N54) in the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/1+series">standard 135i</a> will be upgraded to 335 horsepower, with the M Coupe's newfound grunt channeled through a six-speed <strike>dual-clutch</strike> <em>manual</em> gearbox and down to the rear wheels via a torque-vectoring M rear differential. The results are a 0-60 time of around 4.5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.<br />
<br />
Naturally, firmer springs, dampers and bushings are part of the package, along with lightweight 18-inch wheels and a full body kit consisting of a new fascia, flared wheel arches, larger side sills, rear diffuser and a small spoiler. Being an M-fettled product, expect a quad-tipped exhaust to reside out back and - judging by previous spy shots and the official video - BMW's trademark fender vents. <br />
<br />
BMW kindly requests you to register at <a href="http://m-power.com/_open/b/home.jsp?lang=en">M-Power.com</a> for more details and to sign up for an exclusive test drive. The rub: it's only open to "German and Austrian" drivers. Here's hoping that unjust regionalism doesn't extend to sales when the 1 Series M Coupe hit dealers in the second quarter of 2011.<br />

<br /> No, this isn't a joke. Really. <em>Automotive News</em> reports that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a> CEO Norbert Reithofer shared this statistic during a call with analysts last week. It is unclear where this information came from within BMW, but it still comes as a staggering surprise that 80 (<em>eighty!</em>) percent of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/1+series">1 Series</a> owners believe that they are living with front-wheel drive.<br /> <br /> As we reported earlier, BMW is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/17/bmw-confirms-plans-for-front-drive-models/">planning to bring front-wheel-drive vehicles to market</a> in the near future, and the automaker is worried that it might confuse customers by adding these new products to the rear-drive-only lineup.<br /> <br /> Guess not.<br /> <br /> We firmly believe that all current 1 Series owners who think their car is front-wheel drive should hand over their keys immediately... to us. <br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-135i">2010 BMW 135i</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-135i/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/01-bmw-135i_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-135i/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/02-bmw-135i_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-135i/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/03-bmw-135i_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-135i/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/04-bmw-135i_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-135i/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/05-bmw-135i_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20100321/BLOG12/303219984/1193#ixzz0iy7QNZtR">Automotive News</a> - sub. req.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/23/the-craziest-damn-thing-youll-hear-today-80-of-bmw-1-series-o/">The Craziest Damn Thing You'll Hear Today: 80% of BMW 1 Series owners think their car is FWD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 23 Mar 2010 12:33:00 EST. The rumormill has been buzzing lately about a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/06/report-details-on-2011-bmw-m1-trickle-out/">possible M-badged version</a> of the lovely <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/1+series">BMW 1 Series</a>. (We still have a hard time calling it M1, since that name has long been reserved for a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M1">far more illustrious creation</a>.) A new report from <em>Inside Line</em>, however, reveals that while a 1 Series-based M1 isn't in the cards, we can look forward to seeing a hotted-up 135is, similar to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/12/embargo-12-12-09-6pm-est-detroit-preview-bmw-to-unveil-faster/">Z4 sDrive35is</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/28/first-drive-2011-bmw-335is-munich-finally-builds-a-special-on/">335is</a> that have just recently been introduced.<br />
<br />
Expect the 135is to use the boosted version of BMW's N54 twin-turbo six found in the Z4 and 3 Series variants. This means we can expect total output numbers around the 320 horsepower and 332 pound-feet mark, with an overboost mode that delivers up to 370 lb-ft for brief periods of time. Additionally, a more aggressively tuned suspension will be on hand, improving the coupe's overall dynamics. It might not be as exciting as what a full-bore M1 could be, but we aren't complaining, especially since we're such big fans of the current 135i as is.<br />
<br />
So, why not do an M1? Much like the problem <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/porsche/">Porsche</a> faces with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/cayman">Cayman</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/911">911</a>, a too-good 1 Series could potentially overthrow the grandaddy M3, and BMW certainly wouldn't want that. Still, we're glad that BMW is committed to producing a more potent 1 Series and are eagerly awaiting our first drive.<br />

<br /> Over the years, our favorite magazines have had some spectacular comparison tests, with scores of test data and page after page of subjective text. <em>Motor Trend</em> has practically made a living with comparisons, and its newest feature pits 10 hot rides against one another to see which is the best driver's car. MT used tons of data, added subjective feedback from staff members and included track time at Laguna Seca with pro driver Randy Pobst.<br /> <br /> If you receive <em>Motor Trend</em> at home or you check in over at its website, you've probably <a href="http://www.motortrend.com/features/performance/112_0910_2009_best_drivers_car/index.html">read the extensive article</a>, but the magazine also produced a 14 minute video hosted by Editor at Large Arthur St. Antoine. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/17/video-mt-best-drivers-car-competition-offers-a-few-surprises/">Hit the jump</a> to watch the video for yourself. It's chock full of beautiful footage, 638 horsepower supercars drifting around and tire-ripping burnouts. How much more can you ask for?<br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F7nQ6GGdms">YouTube</a> via <a href="http://www.motortrend.com/features/performance/112_0910_2009_best_drivers_car/index.html">Motor Trend</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/17/video-mt-best-drivers-car-competition-offers-a-few-surprises/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: <i>Motor Trend's</i> Best Driver's Car Competition offers a few surprises</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/17/video-mt-best-drivers-car-competition-offers-a-few-surprises/">VIDEO: <i>Motor Trend's</i> Best Driver's Car Competition offers a few surprises</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 17 Sep 2009 12:30:00 EST. Last year, the winner was given the title of "Best Handling Car," though this year they are switching the name to "Best Driver's Car." That works. <br /> <br /> Without getting too much into the metrics they used (it's an <em>eighteen page</em> article), <em>MT</em> went with a combination of outright speed, braking performance, lateral acceleration data and subjective seat of the pants driving impressions (plus Pobst's excellent feedback) to rank all ten cars in order. Without giving away the winner, we will say that we enthusiastically agree with their findings. <br /> <br /> Cases in point: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ChevyCamaroSS/">Chevy Camaro SS</a> is dead last. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/BMW135i/">BMW 135i</a> is second to dead last. The world-beating <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/CorvetteZR1/">Corvette ZR1</a> ends up one place <em>behind</em> the truly superlative <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ShelbyGT500/">Shelby GT500</a> and the uber 'Stang isn't even the top American car. Meanwhile, the plucky little <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/MazdaMX5Miata/">Mazda MX-5 Miata</a> finishes higher up than all the cars we just mentioned -- including the mystery Yank tank. In fact, the only gripe we have is that last year's third place car -- the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/MazdaRX8R3/">Mazda RX-8 R3</a> - wasn't brought back for a second go round. No one's perfect. That said, you should consider this article a must read. According to the mole, Scott26, the 1 will break into three different levels: Traditional, Lifestyle, and Sporting. They will be underpinned by a modular platform that could be differentiated among models and also serve as the basis for the next MINI.<br /><br />The Traditional line will include the 1-Series along with Active Hybrid and Sport Compact versions. Sporting will comprise the 1-Series and Z2 coupe and cabriolet, plus a Supersports version of the 1 and a 135i Lightweight Performance Concept. Lifestyle counts the 1-Series Gran Turismo, the X1, X2, and the Y1.<br /><br />As Scott27 breaks it down, the full lineup will advance the capabilities of Efficient Dynamics, and a hybrid version of each car will be offered. As well, the cars will "resist the usual jump in weight by using lightweight materials and sophisticated bonding techniques." What would be weighty at that point is the number of BMW's offerings, with 12 cars alone mentioned here, not counting the hatch models.<br /><br />And what is the Y1? Strictly a proposal at this point, the line would be for those who want more "identity and creativity" in their Sports Activity Vehicles. A "dynamic , lighter and more personal" SAV than the X6, the Y1 is laid out as a 2-door, 2-seat "hybrid of an X with the aura of a Z." Think of a de-Bangled X Coupe. <em>Thanks for the tip, Andrew!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=269943">1 Addicts</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/08/rumormill-bmw-plans-assault-on-the-premium-entry-level-segment/">Rumormill: BMW plans assault on the premium entry-level segment with X and Y models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 09:01:00 EST. <br />BMW's little 1 Series has proven itself to be a credible performer that's able to hang with nearly anything else it likely to encounter on the road. But against an Australian V8 Supercar and BMW's own Formula 1 racer? Not a chance. Regardless, these three vehicles will indeed face off at the upcoming F1 season opener Down Under. To help level the playing field, each vehicle will start with a handicap, so the real excitement will begin near the end of the lap when the three cars close in on one another as they sprint to the finish line.<br /><br />The 1 Series that's taking part in the event will be equipped with the German automaker's potent 3.0L twin-turbo inline six and will wear 18" alloys bolted up to a tuned suspension set up with cross-drilled brakes. A set of tii decals and a full BMW Performance aerodynamic body kit top things off. The race will be repeated 5 times starting on Thursday, March 26th.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1">BMW Concept 1 Series tii</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: BMW]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/21/bmw-135i-tii-up-against-v8-supercar-f1-racer-at-australian-gran/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BMW 135i tii up against V8 supercar, F1 racer at Australian Grand Prix</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/21/bmw-135i-tii-up-against-v8-supercar-f1-racer-at-australian-gran/">BMW 135i tii up against V8 supercar, F1 racer at Australian Grand Prix</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 21 Mar 2009 12:33:00 EST. After a few ECU tweaks, the new 3 series was putting out an additional 70-80 hp and a commensurate increase in torque, and once the 135i and 535i arrived, the market grew accordingly.<br /><br />Recognizing that owners are willing to let their new rides go under the electronic knife, BMW has decided that the aftermarket shouldn't be the only avenue available for drivers looking for more punch from the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter. The automaker will begin offering an upgrade for the 135i, 335i and 535i in Europe, and it's rumored to be available in the U.S. sometime in April.<br /><br />However, owners opting for the BMW Performance Power Kit shouldn't expect the same output available from the aftermarket. The kit, which consists of a software upgrade and a new cooling apparatus, will only net an additional 20 hp and 37 lb-ft of torque. That pales in comparison to the <a href="http://www.vishnutuning.com/bmw_335i.htm">400+ hp that Vishnu customers enjoy</a>, but for those wary of venturing into the aftermarket, it's a solid offering that doesn't risk a warranty-voiding trip to the dealer.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.bimmerfile.com/2009/02/13/bmw-performance-power-kit-n54-engine-tune/">Bimmerfile</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/16/bmw-performance-to-offer-power-kit-for-twin-turbod-3-0-liter/">BMW Performance to offer power kit for twin-turbo'd 3.0-liter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 11:01:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery of the BMW 1 Series tii concept</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />According to a report originally posted at <a href="http://www.germancarzone.com/new-bmw-models-vehicles/27990-same-question-different-response.html">Germancarzone</a> and then repeated at BMW Blog, a certain Bavarian automaker is currently working on a new performance version of its 1 Series. Although it wouldn't be called an M1 -- since that moniker is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/27/modern-retro-bmw-m1-homage-officially-revealed/">reserved for supercar status</a> -- the so-called 135i SuperSports would get a bunch of improvements, consisting mostly of lightweight body panels, a decontented interior, as well as an upgraded suspension and brake package. Power is said to come from the latest version of BMW's outstanding 3.0L turbocharged inline-six that's rated at 326-horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque in the 2009 7 Series.<br /><br />We wouldn't be surprised to see the upgraded engine migrate down the line from its placement under the hood of the latest flagship, but we're a bit dubious that an upcoming lightweight SuperSports edition will see daylight beyond that. We'd rather see the 1 Series get these light weight mods (in a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/02/bmw-approves-tii-versions-of-1-and-3-series/">tii model</a> perhaps?) along with a smaller four cylinder engine option, complete with a price that's a bit easier to swallow than the current model. We're also still holding out hope for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/01/bmw-123d-hanging-out-in-michigan/">123d</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1">BMW Concept 1 Series tii</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.germancarzone.com/new-bmw-models-vehicles/27990-same-question-different-response.html">Germancarzone</a> via <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/01/04/bmw-135i-coupe-supersports-model-to-be-launched-in-2010/">BMW Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/05/rumormill-bmw-135i-supersports-model-coming-in-2010/">Rumormill: BMW 135i "SuperSports" model coming in 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 10:26:00 EST. It has also been listed as one of Ward's 10 Best Engines during the same period. The engine produces 306 hp and 295 ft-lbs of torque in a 3.0L inline six package thanks to the use of twin Mitsubishi turbochargers and direct injection. The N54's quick response and smooth torque curve has been an attraction for many enthusiasts, including myself - I call my Montego Blue coupe the turbo Cookie Monster. That is why a few BMW 335i owners are miffed by a feeling of reduced performance after a <a href="http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/bulletin_graphic_temp/B111307g.htm">recent service update</a>. Posters on the BMW forum <a href="http://www.e90post.com/forums/">e90post.com</a> claim that a software update to adjust rattling wastegate valves has induced lag into the turbochargers that wasn't there before. </p>
<p>As illustrated in the gallery below, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-n54-engine-and-turbos/990158/">N54 turbochargers</a> differ from most setups in that the wastegates default to the open position. This allows for better emissions due to the ability of the exhaust gas to bypass the turbochargers on start up so the catalytic converters can heat up faster. It certainly follows suit that BMW has the ability to adjust the ECU settings in order to hold those wastegates open, thus altering the turbochargers' peak boost point and adding to the perception of lag. Currently all performance degradation discussion has been based on seat of the pants feel, along with increased exhaust noise and fuel consumption. Despite the claims, BMW North America and service centers have, thus far, found no critical issue with the new settings. If owners want to present true evidence, they should use a simple OBD scanner device to data log the manifold pressure or simply run a dyno comparison test. <em>Thanks for the tip everyone!</em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-n54-engine-and-turbos">BMW N54 Engine and Turbos</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-n54-engine-and-turbos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/feb17bmw_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-n54-engine-and-turbos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/feb17bmw_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-n54-engine-and-turbos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/feb17bmw_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-n54-engine-and-turbos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/mitsuturbo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-n54-engine-and-turbos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/mitsuturbo2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147781">e90Post.com</a>]</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/22/bmw-owners-claim-software-update-degrades-performance/">BMW owners claim software update degrades performance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 13:27:00 EST. Readers of the March 24th edition of <em>Autoweek</em> were treated to a smattering of tiny-Roundel factoids at the bottom of the mag's pages. Some of them might be true, while others seem entirely made up. The hard facts are naturally spot-on, but subjective impressions like back seat comfort, desirability, and a link to the 2002 are all tenuous at best. The effort is charming in its cleverness, even if we're not entirely sold on the idea that we're going to regret it if we neglect to buy a 1-Series. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoinsane.com/news/marketing/sub1imina1-advertising.html">AutoInsane.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/13/marketing-101-make-stuff-up-make-it-visible-bmws-subtle-1-s/">Marketing 101: Make stuff up, make it visible - BMW's subtle 1-Series shilling</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 13 Apr 2008 10:47:00 EST. According to <em>Autocar</em>, M-B boss Dieter "Dr. Z" Zetsche has green-lighted a new model that's taking aim at the BMW 1-series and Audi A3, and will accompany the rest of the revised A-class models when it debuts in 2011.<br /><br />The new model will replace the aging, if just recently facelifted, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/27/officially-official-2008-mercedes-benz-clc/">CLC</a> and will initially come to market sporting a coupe body style instead of a three-door hatch. Mercedes plans to expand the rest of the A-classes to include at least three different body styles of each model, coinciding with the launch of the new B-class, which will be designed to compete with the upcoming BMW X1.<br /><br />Power will supposedly come from a combination of direct-injection gasoline and diesel powerplants, with output ranging from 120 to 200 hp. Pricing should be competitive with BMW's 1-series models, with the new A-class falling right around the &pound;19,000 mark.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.aspx?AR=231918">Autocar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/27/mercedes-planning-1-series-rival-in-2011/">Mercedes planning 1-series rival in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 13:22:00 EST. But BMW's latest attempt to get the masses pumped about the imminent launch of the 1-series coupe in the U.S. has so much hoontastic potential than even our oddly named friends can't ignore it.<br /><br />Head on over to the fictional Bavarian village of (lemme get this right) <a href="http://www.oberpfaffelbachen.com/about.php">Oberpfaffelbachen's website</a> and you're greeted with the Oktoberfest anthem. From there, you can read up on the town's history, get a quick "Hallo" from the mayor and begin to understand the marketing ruse that BMW is launching - literally - when you check out the Rampenfest link.<br /><br />The idea is simple. Build a 454 meter-high ramp that will launch the 135i over the European landscape and across the Atlantic onto U.S. shores. But the joke doesn't end there. Jeff Schultz, a (faux) documentary filmmaker, has decided to produce a movie that will cover the entire event from conception to completion, and he's been kind enough to <a href="http://www.rampenfest.com/">put up a trailer</a> of his flick to whet our appetites for the big day.<br /><br />You can check out the trailer <a href="http://www.rampenfest.com/">here</a>, the filmmaker's blog <a href="http://jeffschultz.wordpress.com/">here</a> and if you're 21, female and willing to email a picture of yourself to be voted Miss Ramp (rim shot), you can enter with the rest of the contestants <a href="http://www.oberpfaffelbachen.com/miss.php">here</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rampfest">Rampfest</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rampfest/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01_rampfest_one_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rampfest/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/02_rampfest_one_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rampfest/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/03_rampfest_one_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics">BMW 1-Series Coupe</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Oberpfafelbachen via <a href="http://jalopnik.com/361702/rampenfest-to-launch-bmw-1+series-from-oberpfaffelbachen">Jalopnik</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/24/rampenfest-to-rock-mythical-town-of-oberpfaffelbachen-for-litera/">Rampenfest to rock mythical town of Oberpfaffelbachen for literal launch of BMW 1-Series</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 24 Mar 2008 20:02:00 EST. Along with its place among the Ultimate Driving Machines online, the 1-Series also gets officially pricing, which turns out to be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/15/bmw-strike-officially-strike-accidentally-prices-135i-at-35/">exactly what we thought it would be</a>. The 135i will have an MSRP of $34,900 plus a $775 charge for delivery and all the whatnots involved with a purchasing a car. The 128i, meanwhile, will start at $28,600 and carry an identical $775 charge for destination and delivery. <br /><br />The 128i is powered by BMW's 3.0L inline-six producing 230 horsepower, while the top shelf 135i is motivated by the superlative twin-turbo 3.0L inline-six producing 300 HP. Both are, of course, rear-wheel drive, small, and relatively light weight at around 3,200 lbs. - the purest coupes from BMW we've seen in a while. We optioned up a 135i with everything and arrived at an MSRP of $48,995 (that's it above - how you like the Cashmere Silver Metallic?). Frankly, that's ridiculously expensive for a car this size, regardless of what wheels are being driven or the engine under the hood. Do you think they're worth the high asking price? Finally, all the speculation shall come to rest. After weaseling our way onto the show floor before the doors opened this morning, we made a B-line for the Bimmer booth to check it out for ourselves. The 135i sat on its pedestal, but unlike every other model there, the telltale placard was absent. Five minutes of snooping later, we hit gold behind a wall and you can check out the entire pricing and options list after the jump.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/bmw_plaque_800.jpg"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/plaque_250_op.jpg" alt="" /></a>Pricing for the 135i starts at $35,675 -- very close to what's been rumored since its unveiling in Frankfurt. While that's certainly on the high side of things, it's not until you start optioning up the coupe that things get out of hand. REALLY out of hand. Tick the box for an automatic, and you're up another $1,275. Want the paddle shifters? Tack on another $100. The premium package boosts it up another $3,300; navigation with iDrive, $2,100. And on, and on, and on. The only thing missing is the price of the rarified air in the cabin, but BMW was nice enough to provide the windshield for free.<br /><br />Bottom line: if you MAX-OUT the 135i, you're looking at over $52,000. Considering that a base 3-series comes in at around $32k (stripped), you'd better be very confident with your decision to be the first on your block to sport BMW's new hotness.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics">BMW 1-Series Coupe</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/15/bmw-strike-officially-strike-accidentally-prices-135i-at-35/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BMW <strike>officially</strike> accidentally prices 135i at $35,675*</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/15/bmw-strike-officially-strike-accidentally-prices-135i-at-35/">BMW <strike>officially</strike> accidentally prices 135i at $35,675*</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 15 Nov 2007 11:55:00 EST. The primary question that will be answered early next year is who will be buying the new "compact" Bimmer, and whether or not the coupe will draw more buyers into the BMW fold or if it will merely cannibalize sales of the Bavarian's best-selling 3-series.<br /><br />[Source: Forbes]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics">BMW 1-Series Coupe</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-1-series-convertible">2008 BMW 1-Series Convertible</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-1-series-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/p0023286_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-1-series-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/p0023287_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-1-series-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/p0023288_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-1-series-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/p0023289_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-1-series-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/p0023290_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/06/bmw-expects-to-sell-20-000-1-series-coupes-annually/">BMW expects to sell 20,000 1-series coupes annually</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 06 Nov 2007 08:28:00 EST. In the case of BMW though, we're a bit disjointed on the idea. Sure, the 1-series is the company's second best seller in Europe, behind the 3-series, and purchasing a 128i when it goes on sale here in the States next year is the best way to get behind the wheel of a Bimmer on the cheap. But if buyers are supposedly so cost conscious, would they really drop the coin on a BMW if fuel consumption were at the top of their priority list? BMW's cache, in the realm of both driving dynamics and badge-snobber, is largely unmatched, but are buyers bent on a Bimmer really going to downsize their ride when they can surely afford the premium the marque commands? We're not so sure.<br /><br />[Source: Automotive News - Sub. Much the same way as Volvo's looking to its bobbed-tail <a href="http://autos.aol.com/volvo-c30-2008:9207-overview">C30</a> to recruit younger buyers into the fold while offering an appropriately flavored confection of a car, the 1-Series has the task of winning customers who would love a Roundel on the hood, but can't swing the 3-series. Having done the truncated poop deck on the E36 318ti, BMW decided to go with a traditional three-box profile this time around. <br /><br />Where former entry-level efforts from premium European brands have not inspired drivers, the 1-Series has everyone buzzing. While the 135i gets the 335's delectable 300-HP drivetrain, good for a 5.1 second run to 60 mph, even the "entry level" 128i will have plenty of snort. The 128i will make do with 230 horses, giving up a second in the accelerative dash, yet taking it about $5,000 easier on your checkbook. We expect that BMW has learned from its 318ti experience, and the interior will not be a cheapened affair when compared to the 3-series, but will carry the same high quality materials, super comfortable seats, and impossibly tight fits. It's getting to be so you can't swing a cat without hitting a slightly-sub-30K vehicle with a spiffy emblem on the rump. We like that. <br /><br />[Source: Auto News - sub req.]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics">BMW 1-Series Coupe</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/bmw-1-series---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/14/bmw-1-series-to-start-below-30k/">BMW 1-Series to start below $30k</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 14 Sep 2007 08:33:00 EST.
