<br />
While us Americans will probably never get the three- and/or five-door 1 Series, we will be getting the new BMW X1. Here's your pudding proof. For some this is a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/bmw-concept-x1-arrives-early-on-web/">maddening reality</a>. For others it's like music you dislike. Still, we were a bit surprised by how much we liked the looks of the X1, especially in brown. With a grill lifted right off the 7-Series and a sinister set of angel eyes, the X1 is easily twice as handsome as big brother X3. Which might very prove to be the X1's major selling point. Just like the 3 Series and the 1 Series, the X3 and X1 are very closely related, not only in terms of powertrains, but mechanicals and chassis, too. <br />
<br />
Engine choices are the usual BMW fare, ranging from the 258 hp double-VANOS straight-six in the xDrive28i to the 295 lb-ft of torque twin-turbo and common-rail diesel xDrive23d to less powerful diesel models like the 258 lb-ft xDrive20d/sDrive20d. There's also the sDrive18d which can get up to a BMW claimed 54.3 imperial miles per gallon. If you've somehow forgotten, the "x" in BMW-speak stands for AWD and the "s" stands for RWD. BMW claims the latter is the "most efficient rendition of spontaneous driving pleasure." If you can figure out what that means, let us know.<br />

<br />As expected after <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/leaked-high-res-shots-of-bmws-2010-x1-hit-the-information-supe/">this morning's initial leakage</a>, BMW has released a staggering amount of images of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2011BMWX1/">2011 BMW X1</a> showing the brand's new soft-roader in every conceivable environment before it's officially revealed at this year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/FrankfurtMotorShow/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a>.<br /><br />Along with the pics, BMW put out a brief statement (below the fold) confirming the X1's arrival in the U.S. sometime in 2011 and its plans to offer both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive (xDrive) versions, along with "a wide variety of gasoline and diesel powertrain choices." BMW won't officially confirm what mils will make the trip across the Atlantic, but the automaker says the X1 will use its EfficientDynamics system and that one gasoline engine and three diesels will be available when the X1 launches in Europe this fall. Check out all 183 high-res images in the gallery below and expect official U.S. market information to be released closer to the X1's launch in the States.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-x1/low/">2011 BMW X1</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-x1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/001-2011-bmw-x1-off_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-x1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/002-2011-bmw-x1-off_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-x1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/003-2011-bmw-x1-off_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-x1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/004-2011-bmw-x1-off_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-x1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/005-2011-bmw-x1-off_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/officially-official-bmw-reveals-2011-x1-confirms-sales-in-the/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Officially Official: BMW reveals 2011 X1, confirms sales in the States [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/officially-official-bmw-reveals-2011-x1-confirms-sales-in-the/">Officially Official: BMW reveals 2011 X1, confirms sales in the States [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 21:30:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 BMW X1 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Although it is isn't slated to be officially revealed until this fall's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Auto-Show-/">Frankfurt Auto Show,</a> it feels like we've been seeing the wraps come off BMW's X1 baby crossover for years now. Thanks to a steady stream of spy shots over the last 18 months or so, we feel like we ought to be able to tell you not only the shape and size of the glovebox, but the material its walls are made of. Regardless, these are the first official shots of the X1 that have leaked out on the web, apparently because of German magazine FOCUS online.<br /><br />As we've already seen almost all elements of the X1 already, the final shape doesn't surprise us, which appears much like a shrunken X5 mixed with styling cues from the bull-nosed 7-Series, 5-Series Gran Turismo, and of course, last year's X1 Concept.<br /><br />The inside is typical Bimmer fare as well, with a sober but handsome and well-screwed-together look. The usual accoutrements are present in the photo models' driver oriented instrument panels, including iDrive, USB ports, and thumb-shifters for the automatic.<br /><br />We're already tired of BMW's awkward model naming conventions, but regardless, the CUV is expected to launch in Europe in xDrive18i and xDrive 18d configurations, along with an xDrive20d model whose 177 hp diesel is apparently good for 60 mph in 8.4 seconds, an xDrive23d model with a 204 hp oil-burner (0-60 mph in 7.3 seconds, top speed of 139 mph), as well as the xDrive28i, which is apparently good for 143 mph. No word yet on what models we'll see in the U.S. just yet, but we'd be surprised to see anything less powerful than the xDrive28i in Stateside dealers, and we'll keep our fingers crossed for a diesel variant.<br /><br />According to current scuttlebutt, the X1 will launch in autumn exclusively paired with all-wheel drive, but rear-wheel drive versions are expected to come on line soon thereafter. Check out the gallery below and keep checking back with us for further details as they become available.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-2010-bmw-x1-images/low/">Leaked 2010 BMW X1 Images</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-2010-bmw-x1-images/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-x1-leaked-official-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-2010-bmw-x1-images/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-x1-leaked-official--(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-2010-bmw-x1-images/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-x1-leaked-official--(12)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-2010-bmw-x1-images/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-x1-leaked-official--(11)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/leaked-2010-bmw-x1-images/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-x1-leaked-official--(13)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/leaked-high-res-shots-of-bmws-2010-x1-hit-the-information-supe/">LEAKED: High-res shots of 2010 BMW X1 hit the information superhighway</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 09:55:00 EST. According to the mole, Scott26, the 1 will break into three different levels: Traditional, Lifestyle, and Sporting. They will be underpinned by a modular platform that could be differentiated among models and also serve as the basis for the next MINI.<br /><br />The Traditional line will include the 1-Series along with Active Hybrid and Sport Compact versions. Sporting will comprise the 1-Series and Z2 coupe and cabriolet, plus a Supersports version of the 1 and a 135i Lightweight Performance Concept. Lifestyle counts the 1-Series Gran Turismo, the X1, X2, and the Y1.<br /><br />As Scott27 breaks it down, the full lineup will advance the capabilities of Efficient Dynamics, and a hybrid version of each car will be offered. As well, the cars will "resist the usual jump in weight by using lightweight materials and sophisticated bonding techniques." What would be weighty at that point is the number of BMW's offerings, with 12 cars alone mentioned here, not counting the hatch models.<br /><br />And what is the Y1? Strictly a proposal at this point, the line would be for those who want more "identity and creativity" in their Sports Activity Vehicles. A "dynamic , lighter and more personal" SAV than the X6, the Y1 is laid out as a 2-door, 2-seat "hybrid of an X with the aura of a Z." Think of a de-Bangled X Coupe. <em>Thanks for the tip, Andrew!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=269943">1 Addicts</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/08/rumormill-bmw-plans-assault-on-the-premium-entry-level-segment/">Rumormill: BMW plans assault on the premium entry-level segment with X and Y models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 09:01:00 EST. Maybe it looks best on the trot, but the mass of the rear still visually dwarfs that of the front, and the mirrors jut out like the ears on a hippo. <br /><br />When the video does run, it will be joined by the tagline, "This is your world." The question is: is this your BMW? We'll see the official version later this year in Frankfurt.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-live/low/">BMW X1 LIVE</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/12_bmw_x1_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/13_bmw_x1_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/14_bmw_x1_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/15_bmw_x1_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/16_bmw_x1_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/04/28/bmw-x1-spotted-completely-unveiled/">BMW Blog</a>]

<br />BMW unveiled the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-bmw-x1-concept/">X1 Concept</a> at the 2008 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Paris-Motor-Show/">Paris Motor Show</a> to our bewildered eyes, and spy photographers have just surfaced with photos of the production version that do little to address our concerns for this littlest of soft roaders from Munich. As you can see, the production version will hardly differ at all from the concept, which means the swollen nose from the new 7 Series remains, along with all the surface pinching and odd details that we were so <em>not</em> fond of in Paris. <br /><br />Styling aside, we question whether there's a market for another BMW sport or crossover utility vehicle, considering that the brand is already loaded with the X6, X5 and X3. The X1 also appears just plain redundant being so similar in size to the X3. That said, it will be built on the same platform as the 3 Series and offer a heaping helping of BMW gas and diesel engines, so it should be the Ultimate Driving Honda CR-V. <br /><br />[Source: KGP Photography]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/16/spy-shots-bmw-x1-varies-little-from-concept/">Spy Shots: BMW X1 varies little from concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 16 Mar 2009 15:31:00 EST. <p><br />In a move that marks a significant departure from its current direction, BMW will offer both all- and rear-wheel drive versions of its upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/01/officially-official-bmw-concept-x1/">BMW X1</a> model. Up to this point, consumers have only been offered all-wheel-drive mechanicals under the skin of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/11/first-drive-2009-bmw-x6-xdrive35i-and-xdrive50i/">BMW X6</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/09/video-new-bmw-x5-in-motion/">BMW X5</a> and smaller <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/28/more-bmw-x3-us-gets-same-new-style-260-hp/">BMW X3</a>. The German automaker cites weight savings and gains in efficiency as the reason why its newest and smallest SAV loses its front driveshafts, but be assured that it's also a cost-saving maneuver as automakers squeeze to keep prices down. As the models will appear virtually identical from the outside, BMW will offer the rear-wheel-drive version with a special "sDrive" badge to differentiate it from the xDrive-equipped all-wheel-drive model (of course, you'll have to squint to discern the badge differences between a rear-wheel-drive "BMW X1 sDrive28i" and the all-wheel-drive "BMW X1 xDrive28i"). Built on the 3 Series platform (and set for production at the same Leipzig plant), the showroom version of the X1 is expected to look much like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-bmw-x1-concept/">X1 Concept shown in Paris</a> last week. There has been no word on when we'll see it on this side of the pond, but those in Europe should look for the X1 to appear in showrooms sometime in 2010.</p>

<br />For better or worse, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-bmw-x1-concept/">BMW X1 "concept"</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-mini-crossover-concept/">MINI Crossover</a> are destined for production. BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer maintains that both models will do well in these economic and fuel-conscious times, but the X7 - originally slated for production in 2013 - has been killed due to the CUV's inability to "generate sufficient growth," according to <em>Automotive News</em>.<br /><br />The MINI is expected to hit the market in 2010, while the X1 will arrive in the U.S. later that year or in early 2011. While Reithofer admits that the X6 is a niche vehicle, he contends that the X1 has the ability to be a more mainstream player in the market. To which we ask: how? While a biggie MINI may be a contradiction in terms and execution, the crossover at least has some nostalgia and style on its side. On the other hand, the X1 doesn't seem to bring much to the table and risks cannibalizing sales of its slightly large sibling (X3) and even a few 3-series wagon buyers - if it even sells in the first place.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/">BMW Concept X1</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/00_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/01_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/02_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/03_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/04_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/low/">MINI Crossover Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/01_mini_crossover_high_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/02_mini_crossover_high_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/03_mini_crossover_high_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/04_mini_crossover_high_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/05_mini_crossover_high_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20081006/ANA03/810060360/1130">Automotive News</a> - Sub. <div align="center"><strong><em><small>Click above for gallery of the BMW Concept X1</small></em></strong><br /></div>
<br />If the BMW X3 isn't ugly or space-inefficient enough for you, here's the Concept X1, which is a lightly veiled version of the production soft ute you'll see in BMW dealers shortly. Yeech. We can't fathom how it's going to be that much different than the X3, seeing as BMWs famliy tree among 1 and 3 series vehicles is starting to look as inbred as English Aristocracy, but we're going to go way out on a limb and suggest that it's a little tighter in most dimensions while sharing powertrains. Styling-wise, as long as you ignore anything forward of the A-pillar, you'll be okay. It's largely standard BMW fare, just scaled down. We're not quite sure what happened up front - it's bad. From the visage that's evocative of the 7 series to the oddly shaped wheel arches, it just doesn't come together, and the way the proboscis sticks out when viewing the X1's profile borders on disturbing. The most amazing thing: people will fall all over themselves to buy it. It'll definitely drive like a BMW, a redeeming trait, but we'd much rather see a 135 shooting brake. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/">BMW Concept X1</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/00_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/01_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/02_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/03_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x1-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/04_bmwconceptx1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175032">Bimmerpost</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/bmw-concept-x1-arrives-early-on-web/">BMW Concept X1 arrives early on web</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 23:31:00 EST. There's not much to see in the teaser, just a very dimly lit shot of the vehicle that will slot below the pugnacious X3. A little Photoshoppery doesn't shed much more light, but it does make the profile more clear. When we finally see the X1 in Paris, it will likely resemble a stubby shrunken X5. No word on whether or not it'll drive like the supersonic aircraft that originated the moniker. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.4wheelsnews.com/bmw-releases-second-teaser-of-the-x1-concept/">4wheelsnews</a>]<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/bmw-releases-second-x1-teaser/">BMW releases second X1 teaser</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 11:28:00 EST. Dubbed the X2, this coupe-ish soft-roader will be to the X1 what the X6 is to the X5.<br /><br />The 1-series-based X1 is currently carrying the codename "Sports Activity Wagon" (SAW), whereas the X2 is known internally as a "Sports Activity Runabout" (SAR). In keeping with BMW's new nomenclature and styling, the X2 will sport different bodywork, up-market materials, more standard equipment and a wider track to differentiate the two-door CUV from its four-door counterpart. Powertrains fitted with BMW's Efficient Dynamics system will be part of the package, beginning with 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines, eventually evolving into mild- and plug-in hybrid drivetrains.<br /><br />While the X1 has already been green-lit for production, the X2 is still in limbo. But if it does come to market, expect the X2 to bow sometime in 2011 after the X1 launches in 2010.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Search-Results/Spyshots/BMW-X2-scoop-BMWs-new-baby-SUV/?content-block=1">CAR</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/05/rendered-speculation-bmw-x2-is-x1s-sporty-sibling/">Rendered Speculation: BMW X2 is X1's sporty sibling</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 05 Sep 2008 13:59:00 EST. Reithofer cited economic problems in the United States and Europe as the main reason for the cancellation of the program, i.e. sales of SUVs are dropping like a rock.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, other reports suggest that the green light in Munich has been given instead to a smaller crossover to be based on the 1-Series platform, which would enable BMW to expand its X range with an X1 instead of an X7. Smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient is probably a smarter direction to head in these times than bigger, heavier and greater guzzler.<br /></p>

As suspected, the wraps will be pulled off an X1 concept at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Paris-Motor-Show/">Paris Motor Show</a> this September, but as is often the case with BMW, the "concept" is almost exactly what we'll see when it goes on sale in the fourth quarter of 2009. The new model will be built off the 1-series platform (a shortened 3-series) and according to an unnamed source quoted by <em>Automotive News</em>, "will use the two highest spec gasoline and the two highest spec diesel engines from the 1-series." <br /><br />The source also confirmed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/27/paris-unveiling-rumored-for-mini-suv/">earlier reports</a> that the MINI SUV/CUV will debut in Paris with power provided by the Cooper S' turbocharged 1.4-liter or the Cooper D's oilburner. You heard that right: the MINI Crossman will have parts from the 1-Series, although we don't know which ones will be crossing over just yet. The cross-use of components will save time to market and production costs for both brands. Hopefully the strategy will also keep both new utility vehicles around the same price as their competitors, unlike the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/17/1-series-on-bmw-website-with-official-pricing/">BMW 1-series</a>. <br /><br />Recent <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/06/spy-shots-minis-monty-suv/">spy shots</a> show the Crossman to have the appearance of a raised Clubman, but while the test vehicle only contains two doors, the production version is actually expected to sport four. It will also be larger in every dimension over a standard Clubman, so the pics we keep seeing of a raised Clubman like the one above don't really tell the whole story. Also, don't worry, as the component sharing does entail the inclusion of an AWD system adapted especially for the MINI's configuration.<br /><br />[Source: Motoring File]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/20/mini-crossman-cuv-to-use-1-series-parts/">MINI Crossman CUV to use 1-Series parts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 20 Dec 2007 15:25:00 EST. We know they'll be showing off the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/06/2008-bmw-m3-sedan-unveiled/">M3 Sedan</a>, but it was rumored that something else would grace the Bavarian's show stand. <em>Automotive News</em> finally shed some light on the mystery model, but it doesn't reveal much.<br /><br />BMW will be showing a concept built atop the 1-series platform, but when <em>AN</em> quizzed a BMW spokesperson, all they would say is that the unnamed concept won't be the X1 mini 'ute. Our first suspicion was the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/29/officially-official-bmw-1-series-convertible/">1-series convertible</a>, but that's far too dull for Tokyo. We'll let the relentless speculation begin below.<br /><br />As for the rest of the Germans, we know <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/09/audi-still-tweaking-a1-prior-to-tokyo-debut/">Audi is bringing the A1 concept</a> to the show, which should be close to the production model set to debut in 2009, while Volkswagen will be releasing its first <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/11/frankfurt-2007-vw-gets-it-up/">Up!</a> variant in the form of a five-door minivan concept.<br /><br />We'll be on a plane to Tokyo this time next week, so expect more to follow soon.<br /><br />[Source: Automotive News - Sub. There's lots of stuff in works, but we'll try to hit each point here. First off, the company's got a short-term five-year plan of achieving annual sales of 1.8 million vehicles by 2012. After that, it will have another eight years to reach annual sales of 2 million by 2020. Those are big jumps from today, but BMW plans to reach them by increasing production at its Spartanburg plant in the U.S., as well as the MINI plant in Oxford. Of course, the growing Chinese market will also demand more BMWs, and the automaker will be happy to oblige. <br /><br />Increasing production of what's currently offered in BMW dealerships won't get the automaker all that far, so a slew of new vehicles were also announced by Reithofer. These include expanding BMW's range of SUVs with a small X1 model, as well as producing a four-door Gran Turismo car based off of the CS Concept that debuted in Shanghai this year. The BMW brand will also debut what it calls a Progressive Activity Sedan, or PAS, about which it divulged little, so we'll have to wait for more details on exactly what makes it different from a standard sedan.<br /><br />Find out the rest of BMW's new models after the jump, as well as the very long speech from BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer in its entirety.<br /><br />[Source: BMW]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-cs/low/">BMW Concept CS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-cs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/6301162.w700_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-cs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/6301168.w700_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-cs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/6301177.w600_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-cs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/6301189.w600_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-cs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/6301201.w600_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/27/bmw-plans-for-future-2-million-by-2020-new-models-and-fourth-b/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BMW plans for future: 2 million by 2020, new models and fourth brand?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/27/bmw-plans-for-future-2-million-by-2020-new-models-and-fourth-b/">BMW plans for future: 2 million by 2020, new models and fourth brand?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 10:55:00 EST. The way BMW is going, they have the same idea, they simply haven't announced it. We don't know who started it, but BMW appears determined not to let Audi or Mercedes occupy any segment without a BMW-branded competitor. </p>
<p>Next up in the waiting-on-official-word roster is the BMW X1, a CUV to come in beneath the X3. The car would compete with Audi's coming Q3 and Mercedes' soon-to-be GLK. The X1 would use the same engines as the 1-series cars and the 4WD system from the X3. Annual production is speculated to be near 100,000 units, and the mini crossover will set you back &euro;30,000.</p>
<p>The X1 is still in development and expected to be unveiled by 2010. If t does well, what follows it could be enough X's to almost finish the series, like an X4, and an X7.</p>
