<br />
For the life of us, we can't figure this. <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/11/28/1978-bmw-m1-spotted-with-camouflage-but-why/">BMWblog</a> has posted a video of what surely looks like an O.G. BMW M1, dressed up in that ubiquitous swirlydelic camouflage du jour and parked on a Munich street. It's either a very clever gag being put on by someone, or something potentially awesome is afoot. Either way, we can dig it. See for yourselves <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/29/video-bmw-m1-in-mule-style-camo/#continued">after the jump</a>. <em>Thanks to Mike S. for the tip!</em><br />

<small>BMW Concept 1 Series tii - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
Successive generations of the BMW M3 have come a long way since the original, with a skyrocketing curb weight and an ever-climbing price tag. The new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/09/video-bmw-m3-gts-takes-to-the-track/">M3 GTS</a> may have done a lot to counter the former, although sadly it only further escalated the latter. But enthusiasts take heart, because someone's on the case. Fortunately, that someone is Dr. Kay Segler, head of Munich's famous M division.<br />
<br />
According to reports, Segler and his team are pushing the beancounters to give them the authorization to make an M-tuned 1 Series. While the twin-turbo 135i is touted by many as a closer successor to the original M3 than the current M3, he feels there's more that can be done.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, Segler is talking about the next-generation 1 Series, so even if approved, it'd be a while before any future M-tuned 1 hits the road. If and when it does, however, it could take aim at the Audi S3 with a 330-horsepower version of the Bavarian automaker's new TwinPower engine. As for naming schemes, they may have to get a little creative to avoid confusion with the original M1 supercar.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><small style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></div>
<br />
Will the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/29/frankfurt-preview-bmw-vision-efficientdynamics-concept-turbodi/">Vision EfficientDynamics Concept</a> that BMW debuted at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Motor-Show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> earlier this month spawn a production eco-friendly supercar from the German automaker? According to <em>Auto Express</em>, the answer is yes, and the U.K. publication is projecting that the new green M1 will be ready for sale in 2012.<br />
<br />
Naturally, the heart of this rumor-spec supercar is a hybrid powertrain similar to the one shown off in Frankfurt. A turbocharged three-cylinder diesel engine displacing 1.5-liters would be used in conjunction with a pair of electric motors providing all-wheel drive capabilities. The run to 60 mph would theoretically take less than five seconds and top speed would reportedly be capped at 155 mph.<br />
<br />
Other unique bits that were introduced on the Vision Concept that could potentially make it into production include active aerodynamic elements that allow for an excellent .22 coefficient of drag. An unknown source tells <em>AE</em> that the car's hybrid powertrain, dual clutch gearbox (pulled from the M3) and aluminum-intensive chassis are all "ready for the road."<br />
<br />
If there's any truth to this rumor, the new eco-friendly M1 successor would be marketed as a rival to the Audi R8 and would potentially hit the market with a price well north of $100,000. We'll see.<br />

<div align="center"><em><strong><small>BMW M1 Hommage - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
Busy, busy. BMW starts the day by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/29/breaking-bmw-announces-withdrawal-from-formula-one-at-end-of-20/">leaving F1</a>. And it looks like for lunch they're bringing a green sports car to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Auto-Show/">Frankfurt Auto Show</a>. Maybe. According to <a href="http:// http://autotelegraaf.nl/autonieuws/4503133/bmw-toont-duurzame-sportwagen-op-iaa/">Autotelegraf.nl</a>, the new sustainable sports car concept will be inspired by the BMW M1 Hommage concept and will feature all the latest and greatest BMW EfficientDynamics (auto stop/start, regenerative brakes, electric powersteering, etc). But the hits don't stop there -- look for the concept to be built from sustainable materials, too. Big question: will this car be just a concept, or will a sustainable sports car actually make its way to dealers? Dunno. But the Dutch word is that BMW is studying the viability of said project and is planning on a limited release two-door showcasing their best environmental kung fu by 2012. Again, we just don't know, and we're not quite willing to hold our breath yet.<br />

Referred to in the interim as the 1 Series Super Sport (to avoid confusion with the original mid-engine M1 exotic), the hot 1 would be a spiritual successor to the '60s-era 2002 (pictured above) and the original '80s-era M3. Motivation could be provided by a turbo- or supercharged four-cylinder driving as much as 300 horsepower through a dual-clutch gearbox, coupled with all the electronic bells and whistles of modern day BMWs for a 0-60 sprint in five seconds flat. With those kind of stats, we hope this is one of those rumors that turns out to be true.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&amp;sl=de&amp;u=http://www.autobild.de/&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=translate&amp;resnum=1&amp;ct=result&amp;prev=/search%3Fq%3Dautobild%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26hs%3DG5t%26pwst%3D1">AutoBild</a> via <a href="http://www.motorauthority.com/next-gen-bmw-1-series-may-feature-2002-spiritual-successor.html ">Motor Authority</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/22/more-reports-next-bmw-1-series-could-spawn-super-sport-version/">More Reports: Next BMW 1 Series could spawn Super Sport version</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 22 Jan 2009 13:58:00 EST. <br />According to a report originally posted at <a href="http://www.germancarzone.com/new-bmw-models-vehicles/27990-same-question-different-response.html">Germancarzone</a> and then repeated at BMW Blog, a certain Bavarian automaker is currently working on a new performance version of its 1 Series. Although it wouldn't be called an M1 -- since that moniker is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/27/modern-retro-bmw-m1-homage-officially-revealed/">reserved for supercar status</a> -- the so-called 135i SuperSports would get a bunch of improvements, consisting mostly of lightweight body panels, a decontented interior, as well as an upgraded suspension and brake package. Power is said to come from the latest version of BMW's outstanding 3.0L turbocharged inline-six that's rated at 326-horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque in the 2009 7 Series.<br /><br />We wouldn't be surprised to see the upgraded engine migrate down the line from its placement under the hood of the latest flagship, but we're a bit dubious that an upcoming lightweight SuperSports edition will see daylight beyond that. We'd rather see the 1 Series get these light weight mods (in a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/02/bmw-approves-tii-versions-of-1-and-3-series/">tii model</a> perhaps?) along with a smaller four cylinder engine option, complete with a price that's a bit easier to swallow than the current model. We're also still holding out hope for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/01/bmw-123d-hanging-out-in-michigan/">123d</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/">BMW Concept 1 Series tii</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.germancarzone.com/new-bmw-models-vehicles/27990-same-question-different-response.html">Germancarzone</a> via <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/01/04/bmw-135i-coupe-supersports-model-to-be-launched-in-2010/">BMW Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/05/rumormill-bmw-135i-supersports-model-coming-in-2010/">Rumormill: BMW 135i "SuperSports" model coming in 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 10:26:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for gallery of the 1979 BMW M1</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />One of the rarest of (relatively) modern BMWs is the M1. Back in the mid-1970s, the gang in Munich were tired of Porsche getting all the glory in sports car racing with its 911-based 934 and 935. BMW decided to design a car specifically to compete in Group 4 and 5 racing against those Porsches, and because Group 4 required that a minimum of 400 road going cars be built for homologation, BMW designed the race car and then changed only what was necessary to make the car acceptable for the street. Unfortunately, by the time they got the 400 cars built, competition was already moving on and few M1s were ever raced.<br /><br />BMW did build a small run of cars based on the Group 4 spec car for an <strike>all-steer</strike> all-star series called ProCar that was ran in conjunction with some F1 races, and the 3.5L twin-cam 24-valve inline-six eventually found a home in the first generation M5 and M6. Some of the 456 road cars were later converted to replicas of the ProCar machines, including one that has popped up on eBay this week. As of this writing, the bidding is at $140,000 and the Buy it Now price is a mere $189,000. <em>Thanks for the tip, Michael!<br /></em><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-procar-on-ebay/low/">BMW M1 "ProCar" on eBay</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-procar-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2643430_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-procar-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2643430_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-procar-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2643430_8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-procar-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2643430_39_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-procar-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2643430_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1979-BMW-M1-1-0f-79-built-in-1979_W0QQitemZ290267639109QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290267639109&amp;_trkparms=39%3A1#ht_22632wt_0">eBay</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/20/ebay-find-of-the-day-1979-bmw-m1-wow/">eBay Find of the Day: 1979 BMW M1... wow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 20 Oct 2008 12:35:00 EST. <p>It's a sign of the times. After having rolled out the delectable <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/27/modern-retro-bmw-m1-homage-officially-revealed/">M1 Hommage concept</a> (pictured above), one BMW board member says that the Bavarian automaker has no intention of producing a supercar to compete with the likes of the Audi R8. Instead, BMW will focus on green technologies.</p>
<p>The news comes straight from Klaus Draeger, the board member at the helm of the EfficientDymanics initiative. While Audi continues to produce <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/25/r8-v10-spied-again-at-audis-quattro-gmbh/">more powerful</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/12/first-spy-shots-of-audi-r8-targa-surface/">more desirable</a> versions of the R8, Mercedes prepares entirely new supercars and Porsche continues to do what Porsche has always done, the company that once hailed itself as the producers of the "Ultimate Driving Machine" is more concerned with hybrids than sportscars.</p>

<p>Combining a Dodge with a BMW doesn't sound like a good idea. But then again, sound and sight are two different things. So just when we thought we'd seen it all, we're thrown for a surprise.</p>
<p>A Russian illustrator by the name of Remio, evidently quite skilled with the Photoshop and CAD, has managed to blend the new Dodge Challenger with the BMW M1 Homage show car, and the results are rather surprising. While some rendered speculation can prove to be quite close to the mark when the subject goes into production, we'll have to file this one squarely in the "never gonna happen" folder. Shame.</p>

<p>We were completely taken with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/27/modern-retro-bmw-m1-homage-officially-revealed/">BMW M1 Hommage</a> concept car that was introduced at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este earlier this year. It's blend of modern and retro design is a fitting tribute to the original M1 road car, and we'd have no objection to BMW putting a production version on the road. There were only a handful of photos available when the car was officially introduced, but since then BMW has released several more for us to drool over including some of the original design sketches. We felt no need to keep them to ourselves and have put them in a high resolution gallery below for your viewing pleasure.</p>

<p>Those in attendance at the German Grand Prix this past weekend were also treated to a revival of the M1 Procar series that originally raced in support of the F1 schedule in 1979 and 1980. The original series featured the five fastest F1 drivers in the Friday practice session in addition to another 15 cars with up and coming drivers behind the wheel. The M1 Procars, which were featured in races both on Saturday and Sunday, were piloted by some of the most famous names in motorsports including three-time F1 champion Niki Lauda who took the lead early and kept it until the end. Follow the jump to read about the drivers' post-race reactions or check out the huge gallery of high resolution images from the race below.</p>

<p>BMW has announced that the legendary M1 Procar series will return for a one-time curtain call in support of the upcoming German Grand Prix at Hockenheim on July 19-20. The series originally ran in fields of 20 in support of the 1979 and 1980 European Grands Prix. Fifteen young aspiring drivers would face off against the five fastest F1 drivers from that Friday's practice session in homologated M1s. The only mid-engined BMW sportscar was originally unveiled thirty years ago and retains a cult status among enthusiasts, to which BMW recently paid tribute to with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/27/modern-retro-bmw-m1-homage-officially-revealed/">M1 Homage</a>.</p>
<p>According to BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen - also head of the BMW Sauber F1 team - "Just a mention of the M1 Procar series today still triggers an enthusiastic reaction. This revival serves as a thank you to the fans." This year's revival will feature many of the original drivers who campaigned the M1s in the original Procar series, including Jacques Laffite, Christian Danner, Marc Surer, Dieter Quester, Harald Grohs, Prince Leopold of Bavaria, Jochen Neerpasch, and Frank Stella. Follow the jump for the full press release, and check out the images in the galleries below for a trip down memory pit-lane.</p>

Since then 300,000 vehicles have been graced with that coveted "M" telltale, and still countless others have had the logo applied in the hopes the letter would add some magic to a plebian 318 or 528. Fully one percent of BMWs sold in 2007 were M models, and the milestone 300,000th car, an alpine white M3 Coupe, will live with its owner in the town of its birth, the East Bavarian hamlet of Regensburg. The M3 is likely the most legendary M car, with the original E30 version also existing for homologation purposes and morphing into the current V8-powered technical tour de force that can now be had in Coupe, Sedan or Convertible guise - a true triple threat. There appears no end in sight for BMW's M division's masterful application of the art and science of high performance engineering. Now, if BMW would just return our calls, we can permanently add the 300,001st M-model to the Autoblog Garage, though we're certain it's already built and sold. <em>Press release after the jump.</em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-m3/low/">2008 BMW M3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-m3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/2008_bmw-m3coupe_hi001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-m3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/2008_bmw-m3coupe_hi002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-m3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/2008_bmw-m3coupe_hi003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-m3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/2008_bmw-m3coupe_hi004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-bmw-m3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/2008_bmw-m3coupe_hi005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: BMW]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/19/bmw-m-division-celebrates-30-years-and-300-000-vehicles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BMW M division celebrates 30 years and 300,000 vehicles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/19/bmw-m-division-celebrates-30-years-and-300-000-vehicles/">BMW M division celebrates 30 years and 300,000 vehicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 19 Jun 2008 11:29:00 EST. <p>We've been debating whether or not this is a real photo or an expert rendering, but if it is a photoshopped image of a BMW M1 prototype, then it is <em>very</em> convincing. According to FreshTarmac.com, this photo was taken in a hangar in Spain. It shows a sleek two-door, probably mid-engined coupe with attributes of the new M3 incorporated into its design, especially the front fenders and hood. With BMW introducing the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/27/modern-retro-bmw-m1-homage-officially-revealed/">M1 Hommage Concept</a> at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este last week, we hope this means that is already considering a production version. Come on BMW, build it! <em>Thanks for the tip, John!</em><br /></p>

With that in mind, we packed some extra content into Autoblog Podcast #93. It's the usual rollicking good time where we discuss our current Autoblog Garage occupants, hit a few news items like the neo-M1 concept from BMW, Suzuki's content addition to the SX4, and the unveiling of the new Mazda6. Most importantly, we burn a healthy amount of minutes on the new <em>Knight Rider</em> suckfest. We also take a few emails from our <strong>podcast at autoblog dot com </strong>address. Some of us claim that it's genius baked in a car-shaped pan, while the rest would rather stare at flame surfacing, Chris Bangle's ignominious contribution to automotive design, until their eyes start bleeding. Regardless, it creates discussion, and to facilitate the talk we have BMW Design Director Adrian van Hooydonk on camera after the jump talking about the car and its inspiration, the original M1. <br /><br />Though the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/29/video-bmw-design-director-on-m1-hommage-concept/">after the jump</a> is over eight minutes long, you'll want to watch it all the way through to catch footage of the original M1 that was used for the photo shoot being thrashed on-track. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-homage/low/">BMW M1 Hommage</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-homage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/m1hommagea06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-homage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/m1hommagea07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-homage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/m1hommagea08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-homage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/m1hommagea09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1-homage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/m1hommagea10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: BMW]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/29/video-bmw-design-director-on-m1-hommage-concept/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: BMW Design Director on M1 Hommage Concept</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/29/video-bmw-design-director-on-m1-hommage-concept/">VIDEO: BMW Design Director on M1 Hommage Concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 29 Apr 2008 14:28:00 EST. The private exhibition took place today, however, and the guys at Asphalte.ch -- they were the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/03/geneva-2008-lamborghini-gallardo-lp560-4-caught-hanging-around/">first with live shots</a> of the Lamborghini LP560-4 earlier this year -- have once again scored a coup, snapping the new, copper-colored M1 concept in all its glory, both <a href="http://www.asphalte.ch/Events/VEste08/VE-1.php">alone</a> and <a href="http://www.asphalte.ch/Events/VEste08/VE-M2.php">alongside its forebears</a>. We expect to have a lot more on this car tomorrow (assuming a press kit will be released sometime overnight), but for now, head to Asphalte.ch to see more shots of the car under the lights. Hey BMW, just pull the trigger and greenlight a production version already, because this thing is awesome.<br /><br />[Source &amp; Photo: <a href="http://www.asphalte.ch/Events/VEste08/VE-1.php">Asphalte.ch</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/26/sneak-peek-bmw-m1-concept-at-villa-deste/">Sneak Peek! While we don't have anything as official as a press release from the Munich-based automaker, CAR online got BMW chief Norbert Reithofer to fess up that tii models are on their way. What we don't know, however, is whether they will be equipment packages that include upgraded mechanicals, perhaps that can be ordered a la carte, or full fledged models that have been fleshed out by BMW engineers. Reithofer did indicate that the 1-Series and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/12/bmw-considering-tii-version-of-the-next-3-series/">3-Series</a> will be first in line for the tii treatment, and that subsequently an M model of the 1-Series is not being planned. <br /><br />Over the past 20 years, BMW has managed to back up its claim of building Ultimate Driving Machines despite each of its cars growing in size and gaining weight with each new generation. It's done this largely by adding bigger, more powerful engines to its cars. With new CAFE standards demanding more fuel efficient vehicles in the U.S., and BMW already indicating that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/27/bmw-considering-cutting-the-cylinder-count-on-m-models/">cutting cylinders</a> to help meet those standards is a distinct possibility, the tii ethos of subtracting weight and focusing on handling more than passing power seems like the most probable path down which BMW will run. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/">BMW Concept 1 Series tii</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-1-series-tii-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/concept_1er_tii12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Search-Results/Industry-News/BMW-tii-models-are-go/">CAR Online</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/02/bmw-approves-tii-versions-of-1-and-3-series/">BMW approves tii versions of 1- and 3-Series</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 02 Apr 2008 16:29:00 EST. That was the M1, designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro and developed together with Lamborghini. This year, BMW celebrates the 30th anniversary of the M1, and to that end is planning a number of events to be held throughout the year to commemorate the occasion. Among them will be a special exhibition organized for this year's Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este on the shores of 's <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">Lake</st1:placetype> <st1:placename w:st="on">Como</st1:placename></st1:place>, where BMW will showcase a collection of both roadgoing and racing M1s, of which a little over 450 were made. Retrospectives are fun, but we're looking forward to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/19/rumormill-twin-turbo-v10-bmw-supercar-coming-in-2012/">the M1's successor</a> even more.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1/low/">BMW M1</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/m1_30anniv_1280_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/m1_30anniv_1280_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/m1_30anniv_1280_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/m1_30anniv_1280_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-m1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/m1_30anniv_1280_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: BMW]<br />
