<br />
And with this official decree, let it be known that one custom 2009 Dodge Challenger, painted in a very familiar and regal blue shall be offered for sale to the highest bidder in Arizona in the year of our lord, 2010. The vehicle in question shall serve as a rolling tribute to Richard the 43rd. Long live the King!<br />
<br />
Richard Petty was one of the winningest drivers in stock car history. With a record seven Daytona 500 trophies, 127 poles, 200 overall wins (including a record 27 -- and ten-in-a-row -- races in 1967), and seven championships in his 34-year, 1,185-race career, it's no wonder he's called The King. His legendary Chryslers, Fords and Plymouths bearing the number 43 were mostly built at his race shop in Level Cross, NC. Now all the king's men are working to build on his legacy under the newly formed banner of Petty's Garage.<br />
<br />
The company plans to work on "museum-quality" restorations of vintage race cars, custom cars and high performance street machines. To kick off the new business, Petty's Garage has built a 2009 Challenger that will be sold in a Petty Family Foundation charity auction at B-J in January.<br />
<br />
Painted in the trademark Petty Blue, it features a 585-hp Hemi 426, Pedders suspension upgrades, Brembo Gran Turismo brakes, a new center exit Corsa exhaust system, plus a Petty's Garage body kit consisting of custom front fascia, rear bumper cover, custom rocker panels and a rear spoiler. The inside gets the royal touch as well, with Petty's Garage branded seats and door panels. We saw the car at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/SEMA/">SEMA</a> and it's a looker. You can read more details in the press release we've pasted in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/10/first-pettys-garage-challenger-heading-to-barrett-jackson/">after the jump</a> and check out the gallery from SEMA as well.<br />

NHTSA is apparently calling for the halt because it fears that many of the vehicles slated for sale at Barrett-Jackson's Palm Beach auction are not road legal, yet new owners may attempt to drive them on public roads anyway.<br /><br />Oddly, in both <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/16/2009-barrett-jackson-scottsdale-auction-preview/">the past</a> and at present, both GM and BJ have been very forthcoming that many of these collectible vehicles are not road-legal, selling them with disclaimers that they have salvage or display titles and that they cannot be registered. That apparently isn't sufficient for NHTSA, which likely fears that some successful bidders will attempt to plate vehicles which may or may not have all of the required safety equipment to be roadworthy.<br /><br />According to <em>Sports Car Market</em> (via Inside Line), both parties are actively pursuing a resolution, but according to Il's report, it may not happen fast enough - about 100 GM Heritage Collection cars (<a href="http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/currentcarlist.aspx?aid=284&amp;sd=04/10/2009&amp;ed=04/10/2009">click here for a list</a>) are scheduled to go under the hammer <a href="http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/palmbeach/default.asp">beginning today</a> and running through this weekend.<br /><strong><br />UPDATE: </strong>We've just received this statement from Barrett-Jackson's PR agency - "The Acting Administrator of NHTSA, Ron Medford, has communicated to Barrett-Jackson that previous issues concerning the sales of the GM Collection have been resolved and all sales can go forward."<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightline/2009/04/nhtsa-halts-sale-of-gm-cars-at-barrett-jackson-auction.html">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/10/report-nhtsa-halts-gm-heritage-collection-selloff-at-barrett-ja/">REPORT: NHTSA attempting to stop GM Heritage Collection selloff at Barrett-Jackson</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 10 Apr 2009 14:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">This year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/new-york-auto-show/"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">New York</span> Auto Show</a> promises a few surprises</span><br /></div>
<br /></small>April might be best known for its rain and resultant flora, but we hope sunshine prevails. After all, April marks the beginning of the IndyCar season with an undercard of ALMS in St. Petersburg, as well as a follow-up race for each series in the shadow of the Queen Mary from Long Beach, CA. NASCAR powers through Texas, Arizona and Alabama, Grand-Am makes stops at VIR and Thunderbolt, and Formula 1 visits Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Bahrain. We also get the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/New-York-Auto-Show/">New York Auto Show</a> as well as other motor shows in Vancouver, California's Ontario, Albany, the Inland Empire, Denver and elsewhere.<br /><br />There will be auctions in Palm Beach, Toronto, and Carlisle, vintage drags in Fontana, a GoodGuys stop in Del Mar, the Copperstate 1000, Top Marques Monaco, and the Street Rod Nationals up in Bakersfield, as well. If none of those events appeals to you, check the Google Calendar <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/30/event-alert-april-calendar-of-automotive-events/">after the jump</a> for even more listings, all with detailed info and links. We've tried to list the highlights as well as a few smaller events that we hope will be of interest to you. <br />There was a plethora of pace cars this year at Barrett-Jackson, mostly coming from General Motor's Heritage Collection. Some of them we would love to have in the garage, like the 2007 Corvette Indy pace car pictured above or a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/1301857/">2003 Corvette that paced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans</a>, and we'd even sport the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/1301863/">1996 Chevrolet Camaro Brickyard pace car</a>. On the other side of the spectrum is a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/1301862/">1998 Pontiac Grand Am M&amp;M pace car</a> covered in confetti or a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/1301859/">2001 Oldsmobile Bravada pace truck</a>. In the "so uncool that it's cool" category is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/1301865/">1977 Oldsmobile Delta 88</a> that paced Indy and a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/1301864/">1990 Beretta</a> that was the only Chevy concept car to pace the Indy 500. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: The Pace Cars</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/pacecarsbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/pacecarsbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/pacecarsbj09_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/pacecarsbj09_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/pacecarsbj09_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/19/barrett-jackson-2009-the-pace-cars/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: The Pace Cars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 19 Jan 2009 20:01:00 EST. <br />Although muscle cars are usually in the spotlight at Barrett-Jackson, there were quite a few interesting supercars that caught our attention as well. First up was a Saleen <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/1301813/">S7 Twin-Turbo</a> done up in stunning Beryllium custom paint. This particular car served as a press vehicle for Saleen and was featured in the movie <em>Redline</em> (who cares?), and <em>Iron Man</em> (cool!). Did we mention it also has the one-and-only 1,000-horsepower upgrade done by the factory. The winning bidder took the car home for $412,000. For a little more than half that much, another bidder took home one of the ultimate supercars of the last decade, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/1301821/">1993 Jaguar XJ220</a>. Other examples sold in the past few years have gone for a mere fraction of the original list price, and we think this car was well sold at the coincidental price of $220,000, perhaps due to its DOT/EPA certification. For those looking for a supercar on a budget, there was a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/1301817/">1996 Vector M12</a>, one of only 14 built with just 6,388 miles, that sold for a mere $94,600. Other exotics that crossed the block included a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/1301828/">Hennessey Venom 700R</a> that sold for $115,500 and an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/1301832/">Ultima Can-Am</a> purchased for $51,700.<br /><br />Don't forget to check out this past weekend's complete coverage of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson">2009 Barrett-Jackson Auction</a> in Scottsdale by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson">clicking here</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: The Supercars</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/supercarsbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/supercarsbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/supercarsbj09_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/supercarsbj09_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/supercarsbj09_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/19/barrett-jackson-2009-the-supercars/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: The Supercars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 19 Jan 2009 14:58:00 EST. <br />If you only watch the Saturday night highlights on SPEED, you might think only those with deep pockets can afford to buy cars at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson">Barrett-Jackson</a> auction in Scottsdale. Not true! There are dozens of cars that can be purchased in the four figure range, most from the GM Heritage Collection this year, with many selling for far less than $10,000. Take, for instance, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-budget-cars/1301839/">1989 Geo Tracker "Boom Box" custom</a> with a kickin' stereo system that sold for $5,170, or a cool <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-budget-cars/1301848/">1991 Chevy Caprice Classic</a> purchased for a mere $3,630. There were even some "historically significant" vehicles like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-budget-cars/1303030/">first Saturn ever made</a>, a 1991 SL1 that sold for $3,850, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-budget-cars/1301838/">one millionth Saturn</a>, a 1995 SC2 coupe that sold for $7,150, and the brand's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-budget-cars/1301841/">second millionth vehicle</a>, this time a 1999 SC2 coupe that went for $8,470. Taking the honor of the cheapest car sold at Barrett-Jackson this year was the above vehicle: a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-budget-cars/1301840/">1985 Oldsmobile Calais outfitted with Michigan State badging</a> that went for just $2,475. The description states that the car is "perfect for the Michigan State fan", but we don't know why you wouldn't just take a decent car and put the badges on yourself. <br />What's the price of fame? When the subject turns towards famous movie cars, a vehicle's presence on the silver screen invariably adds some intrinsic value to the vehicle's worth, and there are few movie cars in recent memory more recognizable as Eleanor, the 1967 Ford Mustang fastback from <em>Gone in 60 Seconds</em>. According to the studio, a total of eleven Eleanors were created for the flick, and only three of those machines made it through filming unscathed. The car you see here is one of those machines, used for close-ups with Nicholas Cage. In this case, the car's sundry list of components isn't all that important, but for those that care, there's a 351 cubic-inch Ford V8 underhood, mated to an automatic transmission. The gavel fell, fees were tallied and the car's new owner was exactly $216,700 poorer after Saturday night's bidding was finished.<br /><br />Don't forget to check out this past weekend's complete coverage of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson">2009 Barrett-Jackson Auction</a> in Scottsdale by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson">clicking here</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Gone in 60 Seconds Eleanor Movie Car</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/19/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Gone in 60 Seconds Eleanor Movie Car</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 19 Jan 2009 10:28:00 EST. <br />While the main focus of Barrett-Jackson is the cars, quite a few charities benefited from the sale of many of the cars. Several people donated money to charities even when they didn't buy a car, proving that many of the bidders have hearts just as big as their wallets. This Monte Carlo SS NEXTEL Cup car driven by Jeff Gordon was a prime example, raising thousands of dollars for Rick Hendrick's charity to benefit the National Marrow Donor Program. Hendrick himself is a survivor of leukemia, and has used his success to help others facing life-threatening diseases. Of course, the buyer's $550,000 (after auction fees) did get something in return: a #24 DuPont Monte Carlo SS that was raced 14 times in the 2006 and 2007 NASCAR seasons, winning two races and capturing four top-five finishes. The car also includes a race-winning engine, Certificate of Authenticity, race day photos and videos, and a personal invite from Hendrick to come hang out with the team at one of the races during the next season. More details on the car in the official description after the break. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-jeff-gordons-2006-chevrolet-monte-carlo-racecar/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Jeff Gordon's 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Racecar</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-jeff-gordons-2006-chevrolet-monte-carlo-racecar/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/jeffgordonbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-jeff-gordons-2006-chevrolet-monte-carlo-racecar/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/jeffgordonbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-jeff-gordons-2006-chevrolet-monte-carlo-racecar/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/jeffgordonbj09_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/barrett-jackson-2009-jeff-gordons-2006-chevrolet-monte-carlo-r/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Barrett-Jackson 2009: Jeff Gordon's 2006 NASCAR Chevrolet Monte Carlo </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/barrett-jackson-2009-jeff-gordons-2006-chevrolet-monte-carlo-r/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Jeff Gordon's 2006 NASCAR Chevrolet Monte Carlo </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 18 Jan 2009 10:07:00 EST. Behind the wheel was none other than legendary drag racer John Force, who personally testified to the car's capability on the dragstrip. This particular car is the prototype and the very first one built with the FR500CJXX1 serial number. We didn't expect the FR500CJ to fetch as much money as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-cam/">first production Camaro</a>, but we were thoroughly surprised when it trounced its fellow pony car with a final bid of $375,000, or $412,500 after auction fees. Follow the jump for a full description of the car, and check out the high-res gallery below. <br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;"></span><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-ford-fr500cj-cobra-jet-prototype/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Ford FR500CJ Cobra Jet Prototype</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-ford-fr500cj-cobra-jet-prototype/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/cobrajetbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-ford-fr500cj-cobra-jet-prototype/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/cobrajetbj09_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-ford-fr500cj-cobra-jet-prototype/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/cobrajetbj09_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-ford-fr500cj-cobra-jet-prototype/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/cobrajetbj09_12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-ford-fr500cj-cobra-jet-prototype/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/cobrajetbj09_13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/barrett-jackson-2009-ford-fr500cj-cobra-jet-prototype/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Barrett-Jackson 2009: Ford FR500CJ Cobra Jet Prototype</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/barrett-jackson-2009-ford-fr500cj-cobra-jet-prototype/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Ford FR500CJ Cobra Jet Prototype</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 18 Jan 2009 09:05:00 EST. <br />Ford's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/supersearch/?q=raptor&amp;sort=date">F-150 SVT Raptor</a> isn't much like a normal truck. One look at the machine, with its copious amounts of front and rear suspension travel, super-wide stance, unique front fascia and bright orange paint quickly proves that point, but the truck on display at Barrett-Jackson last night had a few more tricks up its sleeve in order to grab some extra bids: a truckload of kids. Specifically, the Raptor's bed was full of children that stood to gain from the sale of this machine, which is the first retail production model of its kind, as all proceeds above the Raptor's MSRP will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. After the gavel fell and all associated fees were paid, the truck went for $143,000 -- likely a hefty sum over the Raptor's as-yet unannounced base price. See the official auction description after the break.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-ford-f-150-svt-raptor/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Retail Production Ford F-150 SVT Raptor</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-ford-f-150-svt-raptor/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/svtraptorbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-ford-f-150-svt-raptor/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/svtraptorbj09_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-ford-f-150-svt-raptor/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/svtraptorbj09_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-ford-f-150-svt-raptor/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/svtraptorbj09_12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-ford-f-150-svt-raptor/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/svtraptorbj09_13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-ford-f-150-svt-rap/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Retail Production Ford F-150 SVT Raptor</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-ford-f-150-svt-rap/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Retail Production Ford F-150 SVT Raptor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 18 Jan 2009 08:29:00 EST. <br />Way back in the day, things took place a bit differently. Exhibit A: Chevrolet's Central Office Production Order system, which allowed dealerships a back door around GM's officially-sanctioned packages and options. For instance, it was possible to order a Camaro right from the production line that featured an engine that was otherwise reserved for the range-topping Corvette. Perhaps the best-known of these unique products came from Yenko Chevrolet, and bidders at Barrett-Jackson had a very nice group of these rare machines to choose from.<br /><br />First up was a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/1300569/">1981 Camaro Z/28</a> that sold for $79,200.00, which was followed by an LT-1-powered <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/1300573/">1970 Nova "Deuce"</a> that went for $110,000.00. The compact Nova was followed by three 1969 Camaros, the first of which was a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/1300577/">COPO 9561</a> with the L72 427/425hp engine that sold for $132,000, which actually strikes us as a pretty good deal. Next up was a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/1300581/">COPO 9560</a> with the famed aluminum 427 ZL-1 engine, which sold for $319,000. Lastly, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/1300567/">another COPO 9561</a> hit the block, though this one's status as 1 of 3 that was sold specifically for drag racing in the NHRA helped it earn $297,000.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Yenko and COPO Chevrolet collection</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/yenkoscoposbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/yenkoscoposbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/yenkoscoposbj09_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/yenkoscoposbj09_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/yenkoscoposbj09_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gary-holub-yenko-collection/low/">Gary Holub Yenko Collection</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gary-holub-yenko-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/1278_69chvycmaroyenko_sd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gary-holub-yenko-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/1277_69chvycmaroyenko_sd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gary-holub-yenko-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/1277_1_69chvycmarocopozl1_sd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gary-holub-yenko-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/1276_81chvycmaroyenko_sd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gary-holub-yenko-collection/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/1276_1_69chvynovayenko_sd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/barrett-jackson-2009-yenko-and-copo-chevrolet-collection/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Yenko and COPO Chevrolet collection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 18 Jan 2009 08:01:00 EST. <br />If you were watching the Barrett-Jackson auction on SPEED on Saturday evening, you might have noticed that a fairly important car wasn't shown crossing the block - the first retail production 2010 Shelby GT500. Did they auction the car off during a commercial? Nope, in fact the car wasn't auctioned at all. We, among many others, were disappointed not to see the car sell, especially with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-cam/">first Camaro selling earlier in the evening</a>. We asked around, and the official word from Barrett-Jackson is that Carroll Shelby caught a cold in the last few days and was unable to make it to Scottsdale. Since both Ford and Shelby wanted Carroll to be there when the car was auctioned off, the sale was rescheduled for the Palm Beach event in April. By that time production GT500s should be rolling off the assembly line, so instead of the winning bidder buying the rights to the first car, Carroll Shelby will pick out the options and colors and sell the actual vehicle. Will it be the same <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/1281531/">Grabber Blue with Red stripes like the car we saw in Detroit</a>? <br />Autoblog was the first media outlet that was <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/16/autoblog-drives-the-50th-anniversary-hurst-viper-first-w-vid/">granted access</a> to the matte gold-colored Hurst 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper. Unfortunately, our pockets aren't nearly deep enough to actually purchase one for ourselves. We did, however, manage to witness the sale of the very first model down the assembly line to one very lucky bidder here in Scottsdale, AZ, at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction. Included in the deal were an adjustable Motion Sport Suspension with Eibach springs, a custom Corsa exhaust system and a fresh set of Hurst black chrome wheels sized 19-inches up front and 20-inches in the rear. Oh, and a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hurst-50th-anniversary-dodge-viper/1296249/">custom dash-mounted plaque</a> with the buyer's name engraved on it for all to see. How cool is that? Wondering what sum of money it took to secure rights to the first Hurst Anniversary Viper of 50? Exactly $275,000 after auction fees. In what has been a very charitable night, Woodhouse Dodge vowed to donate the profits from the sale to <a href="http://www.victoryjunction.org/">Victory Junction</a> who runs a camping facility for chronically ill children.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-hurst-50th-anniversary-dodge-viper/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Hurst 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-hurst-50th-anniversary-dodge-viper/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/hurstviperbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-hurst-50th-anniversary-dodge-viper/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/hurstviperbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-hurst-50th-anniversary-dodge-viper/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/hurstviperbj09_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-hurst-50th-anniversary-dodge-viper/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/hurstviperbj09_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-hurst-50th-anniversary-dodge-viper/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/hurstviperbj09_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-hurst-viper-good-as-gold-sells-for-275-0/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Barrett-Jackson 2009: Hurst Viper good as gold, sells for $275,000</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-hurst-viper-good-as-gold-sells-for-275-0/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Hurst Viper good as gold, sells for $275,000</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 23:42:00 EST. <br />One of the most highly anticipated vehicles to be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson this year was the first 2010 Chevy Camaro. There are very few instant classics these days, and this is one of them. There's still a month before actual series production of the car is slated to begin, but the winning bidder claimed the right to the very first retail production car that can be ordered in any color and with any options he chooses. Last year, it took exactly <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/20/barrett-jackson-2008-2009-corvette-zr1-1-goes-for-a-cool-milli/">one-million dollars</a> to win the hotly contested rights to the first 2009 Corvette ZR1, and this year $350,000 claimed the first edition of the newly-revived Camaro. Just as with last year's ZR1, all proceeds from this Camaro's sale will benefit the American Heart Association, which means that anything over the car's MSRP will be tax deductible by the winning bidder. See the car's official auction description after the break. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Retail Production 2010 Chevrolet Camaro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/first2010camarobj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/first2010camarobj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/first2010camarobj09_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/first2010camarobj09_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/first2010camarobj09_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-cam/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Retail Production 2010 Chevrolet Camaro goes for $350,000</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-cam/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Retail Production 2010 Chevrolet Camaro goes for $350,000</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 23:11:00 EST. <br />Do you like your birds rare? Though it's not quite on the endangered species list just yet, there's no doubt that any 1955 Ford Thunderbird is a desirable classic car, and none more so than this particular example, which just so happens to be the first T-Bird ever produced. Powered by its original 292 cubic-inch V8 engine and automatic transmission, this car was restored to completely original condition back in 1965 -- just 10 years after it was first built, and it's also the same car that underwent the first instrumented testing of the T-Bird in the October edition of <span style="font-style: italic;">Sports Illustrated</span> magazine. According to the Ford Motor Company, which confirms the car's unique status, this is the most valuable Thunderbird in existence, and it earned a whopping $660,000 at this year's Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction in Scottsdale, AZ. See the car's official auction description after the break.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-production-1955-ford-thunderbird/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Production 1955 Ford Thunderbird</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-production-1955-ford-thunderbird/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/firsttbirdbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-production-1955-ford-thunderbird/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/firsttbirdbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-production-1955-ford-thunderbird/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/firsttbirdbj09_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-production-1955-ford-thunderbird/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/firsttbirdbj09_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-first-production-1955-ford-thunderbird/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/firsttbirdbj09_12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-first-production-1955-ford-thunderbird/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Production 1955 Ford Thunderbird </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-first-production-1955-ford-thunderbird/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Production 1955 Ford Thunderbird </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 21:45:00 EST. <br />Few muscle cars are as recognizable as the 1970 Plymouth Superbird, with its rear wing that stands proud over the car's rear haunches undoubtedly being the most striking visual modification, followed closely by the front snout that extends well past the front wheels for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. These cars were initially conceived to terrorize NASCAR race tracks in the late '60s and early '70s and were easily capable of cresting 200 miles per hour in race trim.<br /><br />This is not an original Superbird, but it's been designed to replicate that car's iconic looks by a team consisting of the restoration specialists at YearOne and led by Bill Goldberg of Bullrun fame. Everything about this car is meant to recreate the original's NASCAR heritage, including the 800-horsepower race-spec 358 cubic-inch V8 engine. Unlike the real thing, though, this car was built to be totally street-legal. After all was said and done, the car earned $501,000 at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson auction, all of which will be donated to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation to benefit research of spinal cord injuries. In addition, another $175,000 was donated by other bidders to help the cause. <br />Perhaps the best-known vehicle ever to come out of the fertile mind of George Barris, otherwise known as the King of the Kustomizers, was the Batmobile, as seen on television screens around the country in the late '60s. This is not the original Batmobile, which was based on Lincoln concept car called the Futura, but it's as close as you're ever likely to see. Plus, it's been signed by nearly the entire cast of characters from the original Batman series, including the caped crusader himself, Adam West. The car was driven on stage carrying Yvonne Craig, the actress who played Batgirl on TV, and she promised to take the winning bidder to dinner. Everything works, including the rear-mounted parachutes, flashing lights, Bat Phone and Bat Scanner (well, maybe not those last two). Value? Priceless... or exactly $165,000.00, depending on who you ask. See the official Barrett-Jackson description after the break.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1966-batmobile-re-creation/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: 1966 Batmobile Re-Creation</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1966-batmobile-re-creation/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/batmobilejb09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1966-batmobile-re-creation/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/batmobilejb09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1966-batmobile-re-creation/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/batmobilejb09_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1966-batmobile-re-creation/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/batmobilejb09_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-1966-batmobile-re-creation/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/batmobilejb09_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-1966-batmobile-re-creation/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Barrett-Jackson 2009: 1966 Batmobile Re-Creation</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-1966-batmobile-re-creation/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: 1966 Batmobile Re-Creation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 17:02:00 EST. <br />There has always been a plethora of pony cars at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson">Barrett-Jackson</a>, and this year is no different. Buyers have a choice between just about any classic Mustang they could ever want: Mach 1, Boss 302, Boss 429, GT500, and more. There is even a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/1298295/">1967 Shelby GT500 "Eleanor"</a> used in the movie <em>Gone in 60 Seconds</em>. A few modern Stangs are up for auction as well including the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/1298306/">2009 FR500CJ Cobra Jet prototype</a> and, of course, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/1298302/">very first retail 2010 Shelby GT500</a>. A few Mustangs have already brought pretty good money, including a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/1298288/">1970 Boss 302 that went for $137,500</a> and a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/1298296/">1969 Boss 302 that sold for $106,700</a>. We expect many of the Mustangs to go for quite a bit more this evening, so check back for updates and more photos.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: The Mustangs</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/mustangsbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/mustangsbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/mustangsbj09_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/mustangsbj09_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/mustangsbj09_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-the-mustangs/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: The Mustangs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 16:29:00 EST. <br />Back in the early '90s, General Motors proved that it was capable of producing a vehicle that was fully competitive with the best supercars in the world, and it did so, oddly enough, with a compact pickup truck called the Syclone. Later, a midsize SUV bodyshell was used with the same powertrain, namely, a turbocharged and intercooled 4.3L V6 engine that sent power to all four wheels through an automatic transmission. Today at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ, the General brought out the very last Typhoon ever produced in 1993, and it was joined by a 1991 GMC Syclone that was used as a pace truck in the PPG Race Series. First up was the Syclone, which sold for way more than we would have guessed at $66,000 after auction fees. As tempted as we were to bid on the Typhoon, our collective pocketbooks shook in fear as the bidding incrementally crept skyward before passing $40,000 and finally selling for a grand total of $52,800. See the official Barrett-Jackson description for both vehicles after the break.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-final-1993-gmc-typhoon/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Final 1993 GMC Typhoon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-final-1993-gmc-typhoon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/typhoonbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-final-1993-gmc-typhoon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/typhoonbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-final-1993-gmc-typhoon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/typhoonbj09_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-final-1993-gmc-typhoon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/typhoonbj09_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-final-1993-gmc-typhoon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/typhoonbj09_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-final-1993-gmc-typhoon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Barrett-Jackson 2009: Final 1993 GMC Typhoon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-final-1993-gmc-typhoon/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Final 1993 GMC Typhoon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 16:02:00 EST. <br />As the '70s finally came to a close, there was just one bastion left for enthusiasts of classic American muscle cars: the Pontiac Trans Am. This is the car that was forever immortalized by Burt Reynolds and the <em>Smokey and the Bandit</em> movie franchise. As if the standard TA wasn't outlandish enough with its Screaming Chicken hood emblem, Pontiac capitalized on the movie's success with a Special Edition model that replicated the black and gold paint scheme of the movie car. This particular example is just about as pristine as you will ever find, having fewer than 500 original miles showing on the odometer. The oil has never been changed, and the original air still pressurizes the original tires. That's got to be worth something, right? Apparently, it's worth exactly $79,200, which is what this one went for after auction fees at this year's festivities here at Barret-Jackson.
