Automoblox unveils three new limited editions including touching tribute truck

It's no secret that the Autoblog staff loves it some Automoblox, and one of the latest limited editions is pulling on our heartstrings. The T900 Jim Hoffman Limited Edition starts as the company's T900 pickup truck, but with an exclusive green-and-gold paint job, the cool toy becomes a tribute to a truck that figured prominently in the history of Automoblox. Patrick Callelo, company founder and designer, says the limited edition was inspired by his father-in-law's Z-71.

"The T900 Jim Hoffman Edition is interesting because the colors were inspired by our very own '95 Chevy Z-71 that has been an integral part of our business since we started. It was the daily driver of my father-in-law. He loved that truck. Right before he died he was bragging to me about his new headers and exhaust. My wife bought it from the estate to remember her father. It's been our work horse ever since."

The Jim Hoffman edition T900 features an "I'd rather be fishing" tailgate decal, is limited to a run of 750 units and for the price of $50 comes in a keepsake box perfect for Christmas gift-giving.

The other two limiteds are the C9-SE and the X9-SE. Both feature Automoblox's first use of brilliant black chrome for the wheels and greenhouse, and both are signed by Callelo. These two are also limited to 750 units and come in a keepsake box. The C9-SE goes for $40, while the larger X9-SE retails for $45.

We've given away Automoblox as part of our holiday sweepstakes for several years now. This year will be no different, and we can reveal that these three limited editions will be a part of this year's prize package.

Day 2 of our Six Days of Giveaways brings a familiar sight to long-time readers of Autoblog. Our friends at Automoblox (Facebook) always want to be included in any sweepstakes we do, and we're not inclined to argue.

This year, Automoblox founder and designer Patrick Calello set aside one of his most popular products for us. It's the full-size Limited Edition Highcroft Truck and Trailer set that includes the T900 truck pulling a C9-R on a special open trailer, all done up in the fetching livery of Highcroft Racing. Automoblox only made 350 of these $120 sets and they sold out quickly, so you can't get them in stores anymore.

Jay Leno has been a busy little denim-clad bee lately. The late-night host and car aficionado managed to get up close and personal with what Ford is hoping will become law enforcement's vehicles of choice in the near future - the Ford Police Interceptor and its Utility counterpart. Leno was lucky enough to get a full walk around both bruisers as well as a stint behind the wheel in the rain. The man with the chin managed to run down the current-generation Crown Victoria-based interceptor during a lead follow, so the footage from the track is a little more entertaining than your run-of-the-mill hot lap.

But that's not the only vehicle that Leno's been playing with recently. The comedian also took the time to get familiar with the latest new toy by the guys at Automoblox. The wooden racers are modular in design, allowing kids (and grown-ups, too) to build their own custom model from the available pieces. Think of it as Legos meets Hot Wheels. The pieces are made of German Beachwood, and the latest line of hot rods are right up our alley.

Automoblox debuts full-size hot rods and trailer set

The last time we heard from Automoblox was over a year ago when company owner and designer, Patrick Calello, debuted an all-new type of his unique toy cars: hot rods. A great way to introduce a child to icons of automotive past, the hot rods are fun to play with (so says my two nephews) but to date have only available as Automoblox Minis. This Christmas, the company is offering all three hot rod styles as full-size Automoblox cars (The red HR1 for $45, yellow HR2 for $50 and blue HR3 - my favorite, above - for $50), as well as debuting a new Hot Rod Trailer set ($120) that includes a full-size hot rod, pickup and trailer. And though you've probably seen Automoblox at more mainstream toy retailers this year, these full-size hot rods are available only at Automoblox.com for the time being.

Based on my own experience, kids up to age 4 seem to always gravitate towards the Minis, while somewhere around 4 to 5 they switch over to full-size Automoblox vehicles. Keep that in mind if you're considering Automoblox as a Christmas present for a young one in your family. If you're shopping for an adult, also remember that while the full-size Automoblox are the most impressive, you can fit more Minis on a display shelf.

Automoblox enters racing on Highcroft wing, debuts new racer

Our favorite purveyor of heirloom quality toy cars, Automoblox, has partnered with Highcroft Racing to enter the world of toy (and real) motorsports. The company's logo will be displayed on the wing of Highcroft's HPD ARX-01c car being campaigned in the 2010 season of the American Le Mans Series. The season opening 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race occurs this weekend, and Automoblox is celebrating its association with Highcroft Racing by announcing a new model to its extensive lineup of toy cars.

The new car is a Highcroft-branded version of the C9-R sports car. Not only is it decked out for racing duty, but the new model also comes with a color-coordinated version of the heavy duty T900 truck and a trailer to tow the race car to each event. And by "event" we mean the imaginary 12 Hours of Sebring in your living room and the 24 Hours of Le Mans that goes from your spare bedroom into the home office and down the very famous Mulsanne Hallway.

Curiously, these two companies got together when a member of the Highcroft Racing team bought an Automoblox car for his kid. They reached out to Automoblox and found a partner that, according to them, shares their values of "professionalism, precision, high performance and striving to be better than the opposition." So keep an eye out for the Automoblox logo whizzing by the cameras on the wing of Highcroft's HPD ARX-01c this weekend at Sebring, and if that gets you hankering for some toy racing of your own, the Highcroft-branded Automoblox racer will be available in April (price TBD).

Father's Day is right around the corner, and since you probably never became a lawyer or doctor like your dad really wanted, there's likely not a lot of coin in your bank account for a big gift. Fortunately for you, Automoblox has just introduced three new Mini vehicles that cost just $10-12 apiece. They're the seemingly Corvette-inspired White C9-R, Silver S9-R and Gold C9-S. This trio of tiny heirloom-quality toy cars feature painted wheels that match their individual color schemes and a heavy dose of pearl in their plastic parts for a sweet candy effect. If you manage to Craigslist your recliner before Father's Day, the standard C9-R, S9-R and C9-S are also available in a three-pack for $30. Like the rest of the wooden car family, the new Minis can only be purchased online from the Automoblox Store.

If you're new to Autoblog, know that we're big fans of these cars and many of us have our own growing collections of Automobox cars. The fathers among us are hoping that their collections grow a little more this Sunday.

This One's For the Kids: Automoblox holding snapshot contest

Automoblox are some of our favorite playthings, and our kids like them, too. When a little cherub wraps baby-fat fingers around the C9 perched on the edge of the desk, rather than grit our teeth, we just wait to see what kind of assemblage will emerge. That free play time can now be worth cash money if you manage to capture a photo that wins one of the categories in the Automoblox Photo Contest.

Three categories will be considered; coolest car, best play action, and most artistic photograph. Winners will receive a $200 gift certificate, good at the Automoblox Store. Entries are being accepted until March 31, 2009, and winners will be announced on April 3rd. Get out there and get shooting!

Like the Ford F-350 Harley Davidson Edition, Dodge Ram Big Horn Edition and Ivon "Ironman" Stewart Signature Series Tundra from Toyota, Automoblox has just debuted a new special edition version of its own T9 truck in time for the holidays. Called the T9-SE Signature Series, the new heavy hauler sports silver and red emblems, the signature of designer Patrick Calello himself, metallic black connectors, a painted pick-up bed and specially decorated people inside the cab. While the T9-SE is going for the same price as other special edition models at the Automoblox Store ($40), it is the toy maker's first truly limited edition model. As such, only 2,000 have been and will ever be made. After the initial run is sold out, the T9-SE will be an instant collector's item. We would suggest not taking your T9-SE out of the box if you get one, but honestly, we doubt there's much chance of that happening.

Automoblox unveils C9-S berlinetta to the masses

It's amusing how much Automoblox acts like a full-scale automaker. The maker of heirloom-quality toy cars features a full line-up of models to satisfy the imaginary needs of any toddler, and has even begun branching out into niche models like the go-anywhere X9-X sport utility, A9-S sport compact convertible and high-performance S9-R sport sedan and C9-R sport coupe. Just like a real automaker, Automoblox has realized that the discerning 6-year-old may be looking for something sporty but not as single-minded as the R-line. Thus, it has introduced the C9-S berlinetta (MSRP $38.00) to fill the gap in between the base C9 and super sporty C9-R.

The C9-S features the same extended-wheelbase wooden body and lowered ride height as the C9-R, but loses the high-downforce front and rear spoilers and side sills. In their place is a more modest rear wing and "aluminum" wheels that require a minimum suspension of disbelief (they're actually plastic). The C9-S also gets a dose of reflective "paint" to simulate a metallic roof and body connectors.

Yes, these are just toys, but we so enjoy the way in which Automoblox founder and designer Patrick Calello treats his toy car company like a real one that we can't help but play in his world. Imagination is what really powers his cars, and we're happy using ours to follow along.

Automoblox unveils new model! The A9-S convertible

Automoblox, maker of heirloom quality toy cars, is on an upward trajectory that hasn't slowed since we first encountered them a few years ago. In fact, while birthday shopping for my three-year-old nephew recently, I encountered Automoblox on the shelf of a local toy store for the first time, and then again at the little rug-rat's birthday party where a family friend bought him the X9 sport utility to go along with the S9 sedan I got him when he was born.

Times are so good for Automoblox that it's bucking the trend by unveiling a brand new model, the A9-S convertible. Based on the A9 compact, the A9-S is the first open-air Automoblox model ever and the first to feature a new white color palette for its speedster windshield, rear wing and rubber tires. The wheels are jet black with three fat spokes each and the two plastic passengers even have their hair swept back. Like all Automoblox cars, the German beech wood body of the A9-S can be taken apart and its parts and accessories mixed and matched with other cars to create new vehicles.

Christmas is right around the corner, and it's a safe bet we'll be buying the A9-S, which retails for $38 at the Automoblox Store, to add to our own growing collection that includes the X9, X9-X, C9-R and a trio of Automoblox Minis. We've also been told there's another hot version of the C9 in development, and have a teaser pic to prove it.

You know about Automoblox. They're such cool toys to play with after the kids have gone to bed. Adding to the company's coolness is their new limited edition C9R Sportscar. The C9R is essentially the already sporty C9 with lowered suspension, larger wheels and unique front and rear blocks. Side skirts and deeper front splitter make this one fast-looking wooden car.

Automoblox unveils trio of souped up toy cars for Christmas

We're big fans of Automoblox here at Autoblog, not just because we still like to play with toy cars, but also because these heirloom quality wooden models look hella cool sitting on our desks. Oh, and those of us who have kids find that junior Autobloggers are equally enamored with them. We thought our Automoblox shopping for Christmas was done after the company announced new mini cars that should make great stocking stuffers, but we'll have to break out the Mastercard one more time for three new vehicles that have just been unveiled. The C9R sportscar, S9R sports sedan and X9R sport utility are hotted up versions of their standard counterparts that add some visual pop and performance flair to their standard counterparts. Each model features its own unique accessories, including chin spoilers, rear spoilers, rear diffusers, side skirts, and in the case of the X9R, running boards, front and rear skid plates, a roof rack and rear mounted spare tire. These new accessories weren't just added to the wooden bodies of the standard cars, as each car features a new shape hewn from the brand's trademark light grained wood. If you've read Autoblog consistently for the past three years, you're no doubt aware of Automoblox, a collection of heirloom quality toy car of which we're particularly fond. Among other presents, every year at Christmas we give away an entire collection signed by the designer, Patrick Calello.

Patrick always contacts us first when there are new Automoblox being readied, and he's just revealed to us a new line of cars for the 2007 holiday season. Called Automoblox Mini's, they are a fraction the size of a normal Automoblox car and can fit in the palm of your hand. Despite that, they sacrifice nothing in terms of detail and quality. As always, kids (or kid-like adults) can interchange parts between the cars to create new vehicle designs, as well.

Whereas a standard Automoblox costs $35.00, an Automoblox Mini car costs only $7.99. Unfortunately, the Automoblox Mini line has proven to be more popular than the company expected despite having just arrived, so if you want some as stocking stuffers for Christmas, visit the Automoblox Store directly to preorder yours before the next batch sells out.

Automoblox unveils limited edition C9R and S9R

Here we have another Autoblog scoop of a smaller but no less important nature than the Toyota Tundra Crew Max photo we brought you earlier. Patrick Calello, the founder and principle designer of Automoblox, has released to us exclusive images of his next line of heirloom quality toy cars. Dubbed the R-Line, this division of Automoblox will eventually pump out "high performance" versions of current models, like the C9R shown above and the S9R after the jump. Just like Mercedes-Benz has AMG and BMW boasts of an M-division, Automoblox now has the R-Line. What distinguishes the R-line from standard Automoblox models is the addition of go-fast goodies like a deck spoiler, chin spoiler, rear diffuser, and side skirts, all made out of polycarbonate plastic and finished to look like carbon fiber. The wheels will also be larger than stock rims and be wrapped in lower profile rubber. Unfortunately, the R-Line won't be available before mid-2007, so if you were planning on stocking your Christmas tree with Automoblox toys, you can either go for the full set of standard cars or nab the limited edition C9p sports car in pink.

Automoblox C9p introduces Daddy's little girl to autos

You know what the fashionistas say, pink is the new black. Or is that black is the new black? Whatev. The point is that pink's a hot color. In fact, many of us with kids that lack a Y chromosome (read: daughters) are treated daily to the sight of Barbies with pink hot pants, Hello Kitty notebooks with pink covers and, perish the thought, diapers with pink waistbands. So it's obviously important to expose our impressionable young daughters to car culture as early as possible if we ever hope to raise the next Danica Patrick, Kathryn Legge or Ashley Force, and the best way to do that is to bring together their favorite color and your biggest passion. Automoblox does just that with its new limited edition pink sportscar, the C9p. It's just like the Automoblox heirloom toys we showed last year, except for the pink plastic greenhouse and pink rubber wheels. Fortunately it's not the hot pink that tends to scar the retinas, but rather a muted, subtler shade that's easy on the eyes. Little ladies, start your imaginary engines.
