Audi apparently couldn't wait until the Super Bowl to show off the ad it will run during the Big Game. The German automaker has released its spot, and sure enough, the quick clip has cashed in on the current vampire craze. The commercial features a clutch of gen x/y/millennial 20-something vamps out for an impromptu fireside party. When their hero arrives in an Audi S7 with an extra cooler of O Negative, disaster ensues. At least the company chose an excellent soundtrack. The whole drama plays out under the silky tones of Echo & The Bunnymen's "Killing Moon."

Audi unveiled the spot mere days after teasing its Super Bowl ad after Facebook fans beat the company's Race The Light game on the social network.

We have to say, we're a little underwhelmed by the spot. Audi is on an undeniable roll right now with products like the TT-RS and A7 littering showrooms across the country, so it's a bit sad that this was the best feature they could muster to highlight in a Super Bowl commercial. Audi teases next Super Bowl spot

We've entered a new age of advertising, friends. One where manufacturers gleefully shill for their own ads instead of actual products. We've seen it with the teaser as for the Volkswagen Super Bowl spot, and now Audi has jumped into the game. It's Inception gone marketing - an ad within an ad. In order to get us all fired up for the commercial to come, Audi has unveiled a teaser that features some of the best moments from the company's Super Bowl marketing past as well as a quick glimpse of what we can expect from this year's high-budget number.

From the looks of things, the commercial will feature everyone's favorite creature of the night: vampires. We're not sure how we can possibly contain our anticipation. Or something. Hit the jump to check out the commercial for a commercial for yourself.

Audi Super Bowl ad will star S7 and LED lighting

Among other things, Audi is known for the brash and bold styling elements of its front fascias. From the giant chiseled trapezoid grille to its highly stylized LED headlamps, there's no mistaking the face of an Audi for anything else on the road.

Audi's LED lighting will be on full display during the upcoming Super Bowl as the German automaker has purchased a 60-second plot of airtime during the first quarter, marking the fifth year in a row that Audi has advertised during the big game.

If those eyes truly are the windows to the soul, the 420-horsepower 4.0-liter TFSI V8 nestled behind the peepers of the 2013 Audi S7 is one soul we're eagerly looking forward to seeing stirred during SB XLVI on February 5th. In the meantime, we'll just have to live with the press release after the break and the image above, which you can enlarge with a click of the mouse.

Audi signs on for fourth consecutive Super Bowl ad

Audi has issued a press release announcing that it will advertise during the Super Bowl for the fourth consecutive year. Buying ad time is usually a non-newsworthy affair, but a single 30-second spot during the Big Game represents a financial commitment of $3 million or more. That's a fairly hefty chunk of Audi's annual ad spending budget here in the States, so why do it?

Scott Keogh, chief marketing officer, Audi of America, says that buying ad time during the Super Bowl has led to "record levels of awareness and showroom traffic with national consideration numbers showing significant spikes post game." That's a big deal for a luxury automaker looking to grow big during the next few years. The four-ringed automaker has managed to achieve record sales in the U.S. over the past few years in spite of the down market for autos.

Past Super Bowl commercials from Audi include the "Green Police" ad featuring the A3 TDI and a 2009 spot featuring Jason Statham chasing down luxury competitors. Audi isn't talking about the theme for the 2011 spots just yet, but we're going to go ahead and place our bet on the 2012 A6 making its way to the big stage. How a blogger can cause Audi a headache over Green Police Super Bowl ad [w/video]

Audi is taking some heat over the unintended connection one blogger made between the company's Green Police ad that's scheduled to debut during the Super Bowl and the Ordnungspolizei, the uniformed regular German police force when the Nazis ruled Germany. Because of the Ordnungspolizei's green uniforms, they were sometimes referred to as the green police. In the ad, Audi's Green Police arrest people for crimes against the environment, things like using styrofoam cups and not composting correctly. Drivers of the A3 TDI, though, get praised for their actions. In short, it's a Super Bowl ad.

Jeff Kuhlman, the chief communications officer for Audi of America, told AutoblogGreen that he personally talked to two Jewish leaders - Abraham Foxman, head of the Anti Defamation League, and Fred Zeidman, Chairman of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial and Museum - about the green police ads and that they did not see a problem with the spot. Kuhlman added that:

One thing that I think is also needed in order to put this into perspective is the issue of green police vs. Ordnungspolizei. Ordnungspolizei is directly translated to mean Order Police. It's more than just the difference between capital letters and small letters, it's official versus nicknames. And in our research not one person drew any other distinction other than "environmental".

We researched the term. We tested the ad concept with focus groups. We sought input and reaction from key organizations, including the Jewish community, and we sent out a press release that went to thousands of media, and not one reaction. I then worked again with key Jewish leaders after the blogger raised the issue, just to make sure that we hadn't missed something, and again, we were reassured that the term is not one that has historical significance, and that reactions to the term are completely in line with our intent ... environmental enforcement.

Of course, Audi could perhaps have gone with Eco Police or Enviro Police or a bunch of other names that don't have this association and avoided the incident, but it those terms might not be available for use, either. From where we stand, it's not the best ad campaign we've ever seen, but it's also not worth getting one's eco-washed undies in a bundle about, either. After all, Israel's main arm of the Ministry of Environmental Protection in the area of enforcement and deterrence is called, you guess it, the Green Police.

Witness action movie star Jason Statham travel through the decades in search of a suitable getaway car. Spoiler alert: He winds up in an Audi A6 with the brand's new supercharged V6.

Being that the economy is in the crapper, we're not expecting this year's Super Bowl to feature the greatest commercials of all time. Perhaps that's why we're fixated on Audi's advertisement titled "Chase" and starring Jason Statham, seeing as the German automaker is promoting it like a mini feature film. We've already shown you a Making Of video and teaser trailer for the ad, both of which are actually longer than the 60-second spot itself. While still have to wait until Saturday evening EST to see the full commercial debut officially on the web, we can watch the 30-second version of "Chase" now thanks to YouTube. Follow the jump to watch this shorter version of "Chase" that you'll no doubt see enough times after the Super Bowl to make you hurl cheese-covered nachos.

PS: "Chase" is actually an advertisement for Audi's new supercharged A6, in case anyone cares.

While the Detroit 3 have all taken a pass on advertising during this year's Super Bowl, Hyundai and Audi have stepped in to fill the hole left by the domestics. We still haven't seen the Audi commercial in its final form, but the automaker has released a teaser of the commercial, along with a "making of" video that documents/promotes the ad. Judging from what little is said in both videos, Audi is planning to portray it's rivals, Mercedes, BMW and Lexus as the champions of the 70s, 80s and 90s, respectively. According to Scott Keogh, Audi's marketing boss, the message is "today and in the future, it's Audi's time." Will the spot help Audi sell more cars? Who knows? But it certainly has plenty of entertainment potential. Hit the jump to check out both videos.

Audi returns to the Super Bowl with Jason Statham and the A6

The Giants and the Patriots may be disappointed not to have made it back to the Super Bowl this year, but at least Audi will be back again. The German automaker aired a spot during last year's NFL championship game depicting the R8 supercar as a cameo in the original Godfather movie. During this year's game, however, Audi's commercial will feature action movie star Jason Statham behind the wheel of the A6.

Statham has carved out a niche for himself in Hollywood as the perennial getaway driver, and while he's driven all sorts of getaway vehicles in various films, the BMW he drove in the first Transporter movie was replaced by an Audi for the subsequent sequels. In the Super Bowl commercial, Statham will reportedly try getting away in a number of different luxury sedans before settling on a supercharged A6. We'll see if he manages to escape when the commercial airs on February 1, alongside Danica Patrick's spot for GoDaddy.com.
