The 24 hours of Le Mans is arguably the toughest, most famous race in the world. Audi has dominated the annual event since 2006 with its revolutionary, diesel powered R10. Truth in 24 (Autoblog review here) is the story of the 2008 race as seen from the pits of team Audi. The four-ringed automaker commissioned the visual masters at NFL Films to produce the documentary, and the resulting film is a must-see for anyone even remotely interested in racing.

724 Hours of Le Mans invite list released

Plenty of teams have dropped out racing series around the world this year as economic problems have caused sponsors to pull back. So far, it looks like the 24 Hours of Le Mans has managed to remain relatively immune as the Automobile Club de l'Ouest received 82 entries for the 55 openings for this years race. The top LMP1 class is set to be another battle royal with 12 factory supported entries from Audi, Peugeot and Aston Martin. Peugeot will be trying to finally win Le Mans and has increased i

AddAutoblogGreen movie review: Truth in 24 [w/VIDEO]

2008 marked the tenth year of Audi's Le Mans racing program and in that time the company has become one of the most successful manufacturers of all time in that category. To mark its tenth year - and the final year of the R10 TDI - as the factory representative in sports car endurance racing, the German Automaker teamed up with NFL Films to create a documentary titled Truth in 24. The film, which has had a few selected screenings, will make its big debut in early March when ESPN broadcasts it in

AddAudi pulls out of ALMS for 2009, will only run Sebring, Le Mans

When Audi announced its 2009 motorsports plans at the Essen Motor Show in Germany last week, one aspect was left out, the American Le Mans Series program. The debut of the new R15 TDI that will replace the three-year-old R10 will happen at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March. Unfortunately for ALMS fan,s that will be the last time we see the R15 on American tracks in 2009. The only other race planned for the R15 is at Le Mans in June. Aside from those two races, Audi will run its newly redesigned A

AddAudi R10 TDI clinches American Le Mans Series P1 championship

Audi has clinched its third consecutive P1 class championship in the American Le Mans Series with the diesel-powered R10 TDI. The driver pairing of Lucas Luhr and Marco Werner came out on top after a disappointing race at the Detroit Grand Prix this weekend. Luhr spun into the wall on lap 13 and the teammates went on to cross the finish line third overall which would have kept the championship race open at least until the Petit Le Mans next month. Unfortunately for Fässler and Pirro, their

AddPeugeots coming to Road Atlanta to resume ALMS diesel battle

Last March, Peugeot brought its diesel-powered 908 HDi LMP1 prototype to Sebring for its first race outside of Europe as a warm up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Peugeot demonstrated some amazing speed compared to its German rival - the defending champion Audi R10 TDI - but wasn't quite robust enough to last on the bumpy Sebring circuit. Peugeot has decided to return to North America in October for the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Peugeot is bringing two cars this time around and they will b

20Peugeot destroys Le Mans lap record in qualifying

The 76th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans takes place this weekend, and just like last year, Audi and Peugeot will be duking it out in front with their diesel-powered LMP1 cars. The Audi R10 is a proven race machine, both durable and fast, but the Peugeot 908 has often times proved faster. Late yesterday at the first qualifying session for the endurance race, the 908 proved to be the fastest by far when it shattered the lap record at Le Mans by 7.8 seconds! The car was being driven by French d

AddAudi R10s to run on blended GTL/BTL diesel at Le Mans

Ever since the debut of the Audi R10 in 2006, the mighty diesel-powered sports cars have been running on a gas-to-liquid (GTL) diesel fuel supplied by Shell. For the 2008 running of the 24 hours of Le Mans coming up in a few weeks, Audi and Shell will try a new blend that combines the GTL fuel with a BTL (biomass-to-liquid) fuel supplied by Choren. Choren is a German company that has been collaborating with Audi's parent company Volkswagen to develop the BTL diesel branded as SunFuel. Like cellu
