The press days are finished at the LA Auto Show, but things said there are still making news. While in California, Audi technical development chief Ulrich Hackenberg told reporters that his employer plans to release an electric car with a range of 280 miles "around 2017." Hackenberg wouldn't say what kind of car - or crossover, perhaps - it will be, but one report said it would be "a large car, fitting five large people with ample luggage space." Most observers expect it to be a sedan to take on

Wave goodbye to the Audi A2, as the electric car concept first shown at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show apparently won't be making it into production. Sources have told Britain's Autocar that the lightweight Audi vehicle – originally destined to compete against the BMW i3 and the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class – was a good engineering study, but today's lackluster global EV sales are at least partially to blame for its demise.

This summer, Audi CEO Johan de Nysschen made a surprising shift when he moved to join Nissan as the Senior Vice President of Nissan Motor Company in charge of the Infiniti division. In fact, it might be more so – the renderings simply can't prepare you for the soapbox-racer proportions of this dinky 1,000-pound open-wheeler. And even though there are but two seats, we're still intrigued by the thought of gaining ingress through the back of the car.

Audi surprised the motoring press with its first R8-based e-tron concept back at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show and has since shown off a repainted, slightly modified version in LA and finally a third take on the electric sportscar concept earlier this year in Detroit. We don't expect the German automaker to slow down its march to putting high-powered electric vehicles on the road any time soon, as evidenced by these spy shots of a heavily disguised e-tron roaming the streets in Germany.

We even recently got a chance to sit in the passenger seat for a minute the other day.
