<div align="center"><em><strong><small>1997 Peterbilt dressed as Optimus Prime - Click above for image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />With <em>Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen</em> holding the number box office spot for two weeks, there couldn't be a better time for this ardent Autobot fan to be flogging his truck on eBay. Done up thoroughly enough to qualify as an Optimus Prime replica, this 1997 Peterbilt 379 wears custom PPG paint and clearcoat, along with hand-applied pinstripes. <br /><br />If you do actually want to haul things, under that extended hood - just like Prime has - there's a 475 horsepower Caterpillar running through a ten-speed Eaton Fuller transmission. Bidding is up to $20,300 at time of writing, but you've got nine days left to get your bid in and make room in your back yard... and then you can retrieve the Allspark.<br /><br />Perhaps unsurprisingly, Optimus has been showing up all sorts of odd places lately, including a guest appearance on <em>The Light Show With David Letterman</em> last night. The booming Autobot leader led his vocal talents to the program's trademark Top 10 list, and you can check out how he did by watching the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/ebay-find-of-the-day-optimus-prime-hiding-in-plain-sight-w-vid/">after the jump</a>.<em> Hat tip to 94 Taurus owner</em>!<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/optimus-prime-peterbilt-379/low/">Optimus Prime Peterbilt 379</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/optimus-prime-peterbilt-379/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/01_optimus_prime_peterbuilt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/optimus-prime-peterbilt-379/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/02_optimus_prime_peterbuilt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/optimus-prime-peterbilt-379/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/03_optimus_prime_peterbuilt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/optimus-prime-peterbilt-379/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/04_optimus_prime_peterbuilt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/optimus-prime-peterbilt-379/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/05_optimus_prime_peterbuilt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Sources: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1997-Pete-379-Optimus-Prime-Movie-Truck-Replica_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1171QQ_trksidZp4506Q2ec0Q2em245QQhashZitem35a237cf18QQitemZ230354833176QQptZCommercialQ5fTrucksQQsalenotsupported#ht_1292wt_1197">eBay</a>; <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdNv1Fo6skw&amp;feature=player_embedded">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/ebay-find-of-the-day-optimus-prime-hiding-in-plain-sight-w-vid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>eBay Find of the Day: Optimus Prime hiding in plain sight [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/ebay-find-of-the-day-optimus-prime-hiding-in-plain-sight-w-vid/">eBay Find of the Day: Optimus Prime hiding in plain sight [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 19:55:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Malcolm Bricklin's 1970 Meyers Manx SR - Click above for high-res gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />The Meyers Manx SR (for "Street Roadster") was the roadgoing version of Meyers' seminal, frog-eyed dune buggy. There were ten built at Meyers' factory in Fountain Valley, and the 1970-vintage example you see above was built for that other kit car icon, Malcolm Bricklin.<br /><br />For sale right now on eBay, the Manx SR was described in an issue of <em>Car &amp; Driver</em> : <br /><blockquote><em>No Practical man would have built such a device here in the cool, smooth seventies; no practical man would want to drive one everyday. But the fun-lovers, the zestful types with a touch of tiger-hunter in their souls, guys who might play the guitar and drink skull-popper and give more than passing attention to the </em>wahine<em>, no they're going to take it to their rascally hearts.<br /></em></blockquote>That is among the best descriptions for a car, for the entire decade -- and that decade's porn stars -- all at once. The 1.6-liter four-speeder is said to run perfectly, and bidding is up to $10,000 at the time of writing. We aren't sure, though, if the final price includes the Steppenwolf 8-track. Check it all out in the gallery of high-res photos below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/malcolm-bricklins-meyers-manx-sr/low/">Malcolm Bricklin's Meyers Manx SR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/malcolm-bricklins-meyers-manx-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/01_meyers_manx_sr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/malcolm-bricklins-meyers-manx-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/02_meyers_manx_sr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/malcolm-bricklins-meyers-manx-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/03_meyers_manx_sr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/malcolm-bricklins-meyers-manx-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/04_meyers_manx_sr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/malcolm-bricklins-meyers-manx-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/05_meyers_manx_sr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ultra-70-Myers-Manx-SR-1-of-10-Built-4-Malcolm-Bricklin_W0QQitemZ250436218889QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item3a4f297009&amp;_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&amp;_trkparms=65%3A3|39%3A1|240%3A1308">eBay</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/08/ebay-find-of-the-day-malcolm-bricklins-very-own-1970-meyers-ma/">eBay Find of the Day: Malcolm Bricklin's very own 1970 Meyers Manx SR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 18:59:00 EST. The one you see above is one-of-a-kind: a 1939 Fiat 2800 Torpedo whose cushions have supported the rear ends of King Vittorio Emanuele II, Queen Margherita, the Princess of Pistoia, Pope Pius XII, Benito Mussolini, Generalissimo Francisco Franco, and Adolf Hitler. A couple of prime ministers have graced those seats as well, but with that diverse, high-profile roster who's worried about bit players?<br /><br />The car will be auctioned by COYS International Auction House and is expected to fetch something north of &pound;250,000. If you're interested in a slice of history, you'll want to be in Espace Fontvieille, Monaco on Monday, May 18.<br /><br />[Source: COYS]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/09/car-that-chauffeured-mussolini-franco-hitler-up-for-auction/">Car that chauffeured Mussolini, Franco, Hitler up for auction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 09 May 2009 15:32:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a gallery of the 1965 Frua-bodied E-Type Jaguar</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />In 1965, a Jaguar dealer named John Coombs got an idea for an exclusive model. He was doing well selling modified Jaguar Mk 2 sedans, and asked Italian coachbuilder Pietro Frua - yes, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/09/that-aint-right-italian-coachbuilt-chevrolet-camaro/">the man behind this Camaro</a> - to rework a red E-Type as a test lure for cash-heavy customers. Pietro shortened the car by 30 cm, changed the nose and tail, and repainted the whole lot silver. The car lured hardly anyone, though, and the one Pietro made is the only one that was ever built.<br /><br />After having been around the world and down the tubes cosmetically, the bespoke Jag has undergone a year-long restoration down to its nuts and bolts, and it is currently for sale on eBay. Although we agree with Coombs - and the invisible customers - that the car isn't as pretty as the standard E-Type, it's still a one-off piece of Jag history with a good story. At the time of writing the bidding is up to $41,400, and you can check it out in the gallery of photos below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/frua-bodied-1965-jaguar-e-type/low/">Frua-bodied 1965 Jaguar E-Type</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/frua-bodied-1965-jaguar-e-type/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/01_65_frua_e-type_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/frua-bodied-1965-jaguar-e-type/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/02_65_frua_e-type_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/frua-bodied-1965-jaguar-e-type/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/03_65_frua_e-type_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/frua-bodied-1965-jaguar-e-type/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/04_65_frua_e-type_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/frua-bodied-1965-jaguar-e-type/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/05_65_frua_e-type_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-1965-COOMBS-JAGUAR-E-TYPE-PROTOTYPE_W0QQitemZ220399394185QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item220399394185&amp;_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&amp;_trkparms=72%3A1171|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1308">eBay</a> via <a href="http://bringatrailer.com/2009/04/27/1-of-1-frua-bodied-jaguar-e-type/">BringATrailer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/28/ebay-find-of-the-day-1965-frua-bodied-coombs-jaguar-e-type-prot/">eBay Find of the Day: 1965 Frua-bodied Coombs Jaguar E-Type prototype</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 28 Apr 2009 14:28:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>George Barris' Esso Tornado - Click above for a gallery of images</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />As the story goes, Esso Oil asked custom car guru George Barris (he of Batmobile, Munster Koach and Drag-u-la fame) to create four custom Oldsmobile Toronado coupes for the 1967 Canadian Expo. The car you see above is dubbed Toronado 67X, and according to the seller on eBay, it is one of the only two cars remaining. The big coupe was originally gold, but time and poor treatment have turned it a lovely shade of something other than gold (well, several lovely shades, actually).<br /><br /><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/16_barris_tornado-250.jpg" alt="" />Although the auction has just ended, we thought you'd still enjoy a glimpse of what the seller calls the "Project car find of a lifetime" (which might be how long it would take to get it back together). Structurally, the Olds appears to be sound enough, but you can forget about the floorboards and the interior (which includes a wraparound rear couch!). Despite its obvious shortcomings, the car's provenance has helped it gain an appraisal value of $21,500 (which is about $15,000 more than a brand new Toronado listed for in 1966). On the auction itself, there's even a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2e6koGL2w4">video of the engine running</a> but you hear a lot more wind than engine. <br /><br />The car was bid to $7,701 but ultimately failed to meet reserve, so we expect to see it back up on the ol' eBay block sooner rather than later. In the meantime, click the link below to learn more about this unique piece of Barris history, and check out the gallery of photos below. <em>Hat tip to Jay</em>!<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/george-barris-tornado/low/">George Barris Tornado</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/george-barris-tornado/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/01_barris_tornado_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/george-barris-tornado/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/02_barris_tornado_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/george-barris-tornado/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/03_barris_tornado_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/george-barris-tornado/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/04_barris_tornado_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/george-barris-tornado/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/05_barris_tornado_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/George-Barris-70-X-Custom-Toronado_W0QQitemZ280330915978QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item280330915978&amp;_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&amp;_trkparms=72%3A317|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1308">eBay</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/14/ebay-find-of-the-day-george-barris-oldsmobile-toronado-67x/">eBay Find of the Day: George Barris Oldsmobile Toronado 67X</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 15:58:00 EST. <br />The shell of the Lamborghini Gallardo that was gutted to make the bizarre <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/12/tractorri-lamborghini-mustang-is-strong-like-bull/">Ford-Mustang-meets-Lamborghini Tractorri showcar</a> is for sale on eBay. <br /><br />The orange bull is laid out like Humpty Dumpty for some well-heeled Alice - or Alistair - to put back together again. The only thing is you'll need to find a new engine, driveline, suspension, interior, and electronics among other things, since they were all used for the SEMA car. Or, you could just pick up the innards of a Mustang and make the inverse of the Tractorri -- the Mustardo, perhaps? You can bid at the link, or just have a look at the exploded-parts-diagram gallery below. <em>Thanks for the tip, Jake!</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-gallardo-parts/low/">Tractorri Gallardo Parts</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-gallardo-parts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/27_tractorri_gallardo_parts_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-gallardo-parts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/22_tractorri_gallardo_parts_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-gallardo-parts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/25_tractorri_gallardo_parts_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-gallardo-parts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/26_tractorri_gallardo_parts_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-gallardo-parts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/23_tractorri_gallardo_parts_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-lamborghini-mustang/low/">Tractorri Lamborghini Mustang</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-lamborghini-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/dsc_0465_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-lamborghini-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/tractorri-lambomusto-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-lamborghini-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/tractorri-lambomusto-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-lamborghini-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/tractorri-lambomusto-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tractorri-lamborghini-mustang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/tractorri-lambomusto-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Sources: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=260383155924&amp;viewitem=">eBay;</a> <a href="http://www.themustangnews.com/eventcov_07/st-1007semagallery.htm">The Mustang News</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/31/ebay-find-of-the-day-2006-lamborghini-gallardo-some-assembly/">eBay Find of the Day: 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo - Some assembly required</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 20:20:00 EST. The Funny Bunny is a Volkswagen Bug that was turned into a mouse that, according to the Volo, has been turned into a bunny. Even though it's got a mouse nose, mouse whiskers, mouse eyes, and mouse ears, it has "a buck tooth bumper" and a white, poofy bunny tail -- but it still comes with the pink mouse tail in case you're really set on a rodent.<br /><br />The car has been restored and is in great running condition, so sayeth the museum's eBay listing. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a gallery of the Subaru Sambar-turned-Ferrari microtruck</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />You're too late to buy it, but it's never too late to find out about these things. The Subaru Sambar was evidently the first <em>kei</em> truck in Japan. It could also be the first kei truck to be completely restored, customized, and fitted entirely with Ferrari badging in America. However, it's about as far from Ferrari spec as you could imagine: a 660 cc, 2-cylinder, 2-stroke engine sits way back in the rear, with a pickup truck bed where you'd normally find the powerplant in an F430. It does have a ball shifter and Momo pedals, though. Even though the bidding's over, the truck didn't meet reserve (which is somewhere north of $12,800) so you can start saving for its eventual relisting. And did we mention all those Ferrari badges? Check 'em out in the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-sambar-ii-ferrari-micro-truck/low/">Subaru Sambar II Ferrari micro truck</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-sambar-ii-ferrari-micro-truck/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/01_suzuki_ferrari_kei_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-sambar-ii-ferrari-micro-truck/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/02_suzuki_ferrari_kei_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-sambar-ii-ferrari-micro-truck/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/03_suzuki_ferrari_kei_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-sambar-ii-ferrari-micro-truck/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/04_suzuki_ferrari_kei_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-sambar-ii-ferrari-micro-truck/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/05_suzuki_ferrari_kei_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=250389799477&amp;viewitem=">eBay</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/22/ebay-find-of-the-day-the-coolest-two-cylinder-suzuki-microtruck/">eBay Find of the Day: The coolest two-cylinder Subaru microtruck Ferrari never built</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 22 Mar 2009 18:33:00 EST. Hurry to Indianapolis for the Saturday, February 28 auction of Track Attack racing school, and you could pick up some good stuff. There's seven SCCA spec racers, a fleet of go karts, a Ford Mustang that was a Champ Car pace car, a car transporter, motorhome, tools, lots of racing gear - basically everything but the track. If you can't make it to Indy, the auction will be webcast, as well. Teaching others how to drive not your thing? There's the makings of a racing team in there, or enough goodies to seriously boost the equipment in your workshop. It's a darn shame that the school is closing, but there's no sense letting any meat on the bones go to waste, right? <em>Thanks to Kurt for the detailed tip</em>.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.njgallivan.com/auction_detail.php?ID=398973">njgallivan.com</a>]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/25/auction-action-everything-you-need-to-start-your-own-performanc/">Auction Action: Everything you need to start your own performance driving school</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 25 Feb 2009 13:56:00 EST. But before he goes, you can win a ride with him around the Top Gear test track. <a href="http://www.rednoseday.com/">Red Nose Day</a> is a fundraising event put on by the British charity <a href="http://www.comicrelief.com/">Comic Relief</a>, and it's practically a holiday in UK. One of the items being auctioned for this year's drive is a lap with the Stig, to take place some time on a Wednesday this Summer.<br /><br />If you win, you'll need to make your own way to Surrey, where the Top Gear track is. There is no word on the car you'll be riding in, and since Top Gear filming is a little loosey-goosey, things might get postponed. <br />Ron Flint, president of <a href="http://www.hurstperformancevehicles.com/">Hurst Performance</a>, is quick to let you know that founder George Hurst's original intent was to make hot rods for gentlemen. It is ironic, then, that for the revived company's 50th anniversary, it has thrown its energies into a car that isn't a hot rod, and certainly isn't for gentlemen: a Dodge Viper. Leaving the heart of the beast well enough alone, Hurst merely tinkered with some oily bits, stuffed the thing with leather, and then slathered it in a hue something like a monochrome sunset. Autoblog was invited to be the first to drive the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/09/50th-anniversary-hurst-viper-unveiled-to-be-auctioned-for-chari/">Hurst 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper</a>, and you know what we discovered? There's (matte) gold in them thar hills. In our humble estimation, the XJ220 is one of the most gorgeous supercars ever designed, and rather than relying on eight or twelve cylinders like its Italian competition, the XJ220 reached 200+ mph using a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 producing 550 horsepower and 473 pound-feet of torque. Unfortunately, no one ever got one up to 220 mph to validate the car's nomenclature. The XJ220 went on the market in 1992 with a base price of $650,000 and only 281 were ever made. One of those examples from 1994 is up for auction on eBay Motors with a starting bid of $300,000. Bathed in a rich-looking LeMans blue paint job, this example has only 3,092 miles on its odometer, though it appears to have a few items that need attention. One of the wheel center caps is missing, the passenger side headlight cover is off, and is that an aftermarket stereo in there? The rest of the car looks as fresh as the day it was built. We doubt Jaguar will be returning to the supercar ring with a contender anytime soon, but this eBay Motors auction reminds us of a time when Jaguar stood toe-to-toe with the giants. <em>Thanks for the tip, Kevin!</em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-xj220-on-ebay-motors/low/">Jaguar XJ220 on eBay Motors</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-xj220-on-ebay-motors/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/00_jaguarxj220ebay_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-xj220-on-ebay-motors/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/01_jaguarxj220ebay_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-xj220-on-ebay-motors/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/02_jaguarxj220ebay_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-xj220-on-ebay-motors/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/03_jaguarxj220ebay_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-xj220-on-ebay-motors/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/04_jaguarxj220ebay_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: eBay Motors]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/18/ebay-find-of-the-day-jaguar-xj220-in-lemans-blue/">eBay Find of the Day: Jaguar XJ220 in LeMans Blue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 18 Apr 2008 14:29:00 EST. There's plenty of debate for and against the practice of warming up by idling, but the unfortunate story of this ZJ could bolster the argument for just getting in and going. eBayer buickonly had his 1996 Grand Cherokee swiped from his driveway one morning as it sat innocently trying to generate some warmth. What had been a nice clean vehicle ended up having its nose bashed in and was abandoned after becoming wedged between two trees. The coniferous atomic wedgie sheared off an exterior door handle, so there's only three working doors, and a Lincoln Town Car donated its proboscis to some crude rhinoplasty, but at least it's got lights out front again. Naturally, his wife refuses to ride in it, especially with it's rattle-can chic paint job, so buickonly's trying to unload it. If you've got a need for a vehicle that doesn't have to be pretty, bids start at $1,600.<br /><br />Thanks for the tip, Erik!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/commando-jeep/low/">Commando Jeep</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/commando-jeep/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/c838_1_b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/commando-jeep/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/c8de_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/commando-jeep/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/c95b_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/commando-jeep/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/c9f1_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/commando-jeep/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/cad1_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/12/ebay-find-of-the-day-jeep-grand-cherokee-commando-edition/">eBay Find of the Day: Jeep Grand Cherokee Commando Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 12 Nov 2007 20:01:00 EST. Inexplicably listed as a 1971, when it's clearly about a decade newer, this car is your ticket to a full-on star shrine. You get the car, a trunkful of memorabilia and knicknacks, even a domain name (travoltafever.com). The car itself was built in 1979 by George Barris, and it encapsulates some of the pop culture ethos of the late 1970s. The interior has a manly theme inspired by Urban Cowboy, though when we set our gaze upon it, all we could think was Brokeback Mountain. Nevertheless, it's certainly better than the stock Poncho interior was. The exterior has been flared in an odd way, endowed with a large spoiler, and painted in the fashion of the time. The car is actually named "Travolta Fever," so says the hood. How awesome, you could have a Firebird named after the same virus that inspired Travolta to release a double album. <br /><br />All snarkiness aside, it's a cool piece of Kustom Kar history, which is inextricably linked with a well known Hollywood star. Star value always inflates car prices, for better or worse. This one comes with a collection of other memorabilia, as well, and looks to be in good shape. There's no telling whether it will truly appreciate in value, but $25,000 isn't that outrageous for a car with a known celebrity link that comes with all kinds of extra stuff. Some of that stuff includes a Revell scale model kit, a copy of the "Travolta Fever" double LP, and various other pieces signed by George Barris. You're guaranteed to draw a crowd at your local car show with this thing, even if you're parked next to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/19/breaker-breaker-year-one-recreates-bandit-t-as/">Bandit Trans Am.</a> <br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/11/catch-travolta-fever-on-ebay/">Catch "Travolta Fever" on eBay</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 11 Nov 2007 10:07:00 EST. Perhaps it's better described as a "shooting brake." Whatevs, the lines of the Porsche 944 lend themselves shockingly well to wagonization. Our Dutch is nonexistent, but from what we can gather, this 1981 944 Turbo could be yours if you've got 25,000 Euros kicking around. Shipping it over to the US from Genk would assuredly feel longer and more agonizing than what a five-year old experiences watching the second hand march around the clock on December 24th. The condition is said to be showroom perfect, and indeed, even the seats look far less beaten than what we routinely see lurking inside 1980s Porsches offered on eBay. There's about 175 horsepower on tap from the 2-liter four cylinder, so while it looks much faster, hot rodded Volvo 240 Turbos might be showing you their taillights. <br /><br />This is the perfect Porsche for the folks with kids who don't want to join the lemmings in the Cayenne. Roughly 30 grand doesn't buy you a ton of exclusivity, either, but this Porsche Estate will definitely shut the mouths of those that feel the need to keep up with the Joneses. If you play around with the turbo boost settings, they'll have a tough time keeping up with you, too.<br /><br />Thanks for the tip, Paul<br /><br />[Source: eBay]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-wagon-on-ebay/low/">Porsche Wagon on eBay</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-wagon-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/12fa_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-wagon-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/134c_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-wagon-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/1398_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-wagon-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/13e5_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-wagon-on-ebay/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/1424_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/16/ebay-find-of-the-day-porsche-wagon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>eBay Find Of The Day: Porsche Wagon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/16/ebay-find-of-the-day-porsche-wagon/">eBay Find Of The Day: Porsche Wagon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 16 Aug 2007 17:01:00 EST. The item description reads like a manifesto about the seller's annoyances with eBay's communication tools for prospective buyers and sellers. The multicolor text is a particularly nice touch, too; reminds us of "Web 0.5," back in the '90s. We do like how the unvarnished truth makes its way through, though. The message is simple, and the call to action is even better: "Buy it anyway, it does not run but the parts are all there." Excellent. Can't argue with success, though -- the feedback is largely positive. <br /><br />As for what it is -- we haven't the foggiest. We almost detect a bit of '70s VW Type 2 in the corner lamps, but the rest of what's there doesn't square with that. Even if they are Type 2 lamps, that's not surprising considering the ubiquity of those vehicles and their parts back then. It looks more like some sort of industrial flatbed, for use on the grounds of a large facility. Check out the rims, they're what, 13-inches at best, and probably more like 10s? We're sure one of you sharp-eyed readers will be able to decipher that insignia that looks like a flying A and tell us just what we have here. <br /><br />Thanks for the tip, GD!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/18/ebay-find-of-the-day-i-dont-know-what-it-is-and-i-dont-care/">eBay Find of the Day: "I don't know what it is and I don't care"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 18 Jun 2007 18:55:00 EST. Hilarity aside, this long-wheelbase CX Prestige looks like it's made out of the same material that fashioned Darth Vader's mask. Maybe the hydro-pneumatic suspension even makes the same kinds of breathy noises. Probably not, as the seller claims the spheres are in good shape. Citro&euml;ns are pretty rare in the US, and the CX's are funk-tastic executive expresses. <br /><br />This series-II car is a fine example of the last Citro&euml;n design before Peugeot purchased the brand. The long, tapered body dressed in black gives this thing an evil presence we think absolutely rocks. This is the car that replaced the space-capsule DS, and there's definitely a familial resemblance (though the CX looks more like Gumby's SAAB 900 than anything alse, if you ask us). <br /><br />Underhood, there's a 2.5L four-cylinder that smokes Gauloises and is powered by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croque-monsieur">croque monsieur</a>. The price is up to $2650, which is actually pretty reasonable for a CX Prestige in good shape. 1988 was the second-to-last year for this smooth-riding teardrop that was first introduced in 1974, so any teething pains were long gone by then. Of course, the joys of maintaining a luxed-up European car with a very small support base are part of the thrill of ownership. We'd wear a Vader suit wherever we went. And limo-tint the windows. That'd make pulling up to the curb, any curb, the Best. Arrival.
