Who knew Wal-Mart wants to roll forward research on hybrid drivetrains for diesel trucks? We've been following Wal-Mart's forays into biodiesel and hydrogen for a while, but an announcement by ArvinMeritor, Inc. yesterday that they have been tapped by the retailing giant to develop a dual-mode, diesel-electric drivetrain for a Class 8 tractor caught us a little by surprise. Still, it's a very welcome surprise.
ArvinMeritor, Inc. announced last week that the company's Emissions Technologies Team received awards from Ford and Volkswagen. The Ford Motor Company gave the company a "Gold Award" for exemplary performance in 2005 and Volkswagen handed them an Excellence Award in 2006 for Quality. ArvinMeritor's LVS Emissions Technologies works on various emission-related issues, including diesel particulate filters.
