It's been a long time coming, but the Arash AF-10 is finally here. Well, almost. Development of the latest British cottage-industry supercar is still being carried out, but after years of following the story, details and photos of the exclusive exotic have finally bubbled to the surface.

The first thing you need to know is that the AF-10 is made almost entirely of carbon fiber, from the chassis to the bodywork. Crafting a car from the time-consuming and expensive material invariably comes at a price, and the Arash is slated to sell for £320,000 ($535,000). Nestled in the lightweight frame is none other than the LS7 engine from the Corvette Z06 - all seven liters of it - tuned by Arash to produce 550 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque and driving through a six-speed Graziano gearbox.

That's just the start, though, as Arash is also said to be developing a supercharged version - spooled up in house as opposed to shoehorning in the ZR1's engine - for 800 horsepower, to be followed an even more powerful 1000-horse version. The chassis rides on a double-wishbone suspension mounted to 19-inch alloys up front and 20s in the rear, riding on Michelin Pilot rubber, with eight-piston calipers up front and six-pots in the rear gripping ventilated ceramic brake discs. With all that kit and the half-a-million-dollar price tag, we won't expect to see many out on the road, but that's just as well: Arash is apparently capping production at 70 units over the next five years.

In case you thought the world needed another supercar that looked like every other supercar, which all look like something Mattel dreamed up years ago for Hot Wheels, CAR magazine has gotten official renderings of the Arash AF-10. CAR says its images came directly from the data used to create the body panels for the actual cars, supplied by Arash Farboud. The AF-10 will be powered by either an LS3 or LS9 V8 plucked from GM's parts bin, either of which should offer exhilarating performance in a car that's targeted to weigh in at 2600 pounds. The first AF-10 chassis, bonded together from 12 pieces, is under construction and the first completed car should emerge around Christmas, with production ramping up further in 2009. If you absolutely must have one of these things, they'll go on sale in Summer 2009 for £170,000.

Britain's history is punctuated in no small part by the proliferation of its cottage industry. And while the industrial revolution may have taken care of that to a large degree, it's still alive and thriving in the realm of the supercar. Small independent exotic automakers abound, including names like Ascari, Ultima, Noble, Farboud, Farbio and Arash, to name just a few. Trying to keep track of them all is enough to make your head spin, especially when the same guy is behind the latter three. After selling off Farboud, the new owners changed the name to Farbio and founder Arash Farboud started a new outfit under his first name. What you see here are the first proper images of his latest creation, the Arash AF10.

The carbon-fiber body, which (aside from the adjustable front wing) bears a startling resemblance to the Ferrari Enzo, is laid over a carbon fiber chassis for a sprightly low curb weight of 1,200kg (about 2,600 lbs). Power is provided by the 7-liter pushrod V8 out of the Corvette Z06, tuned from the stock 498 hp up to 530 thanks to new intake and exhaust systems, driving the rear wheels through a manual Graziano gearbox and kept in check by AP Racing brakes. The supercar is expected to sell for about 170k pounds sterling - a fair bit less than the £220k a Lamborghini Murcielago will cost a British customer - and begin delivery sometime next year. A sequential gearbox is expected to join the catalog, as well as the potential for dropping in the supercharged V8 from the Corvette ZR1 a year and a half down the line. The closest most of us have come to a Farboud sports car is driving a digital version of the company's GTS in Project Gotham Racing 3. Regardless of his obscurity in the U.S., the maverick Brit Arash Farboud will be displaying his company's AF10 supercar at the British Motor Show next month.

The AF10 will use a Corvette Z06-sourced 7.0L V8 mated to a six-speed Graziano transmission and hope to reach a top speed in excess of 200 mph. The car employs a steel and carbon fiber tub with an all-carbon fiber body.

Supposedly the party at the Farboud display is the stuff of legends, so we'll keep our ears and eyes open for news of when the AF10 debuts next month at the British Motor Show.
